Heart #4

A Wild Heart

Rate this book
I lost a huge piece of myself the day my husband was killed in action.
In the months that followed, I felt like my grief would swallow me whole.
My only solace was my daughter, whose bright light guided me through the darkest of times.

I never wanted to meet someone else.
I vowed to never fall in love again, especially with a marine.

It was supposed to be no strings attached and for a while it was.
But Weston Reeves’s grumpy soul called to my tortured one.
Maybe it was the midnight rides on his bike or the way that only I could make him smile.
He lit me up, set my body afire, and for the first time in five years made me feel alive.

Our relationship was probably the worst gamble I’d ever taken.
But my stupid, wild heart needed him, even if our love was destined to burn me to ashes.

Wow, what a gorgeous story! Amie Knight has taken us back to her Hearts series with an emotional, sweet, fun, sexy and gorgeously romantic love story between two people who lost everything, and unexpectedly get a second chance at love.

This book is loosely connected to book #2 in the Hearts series, A Steel Heart. In that book we met Holden, a soldier who struggled with the death of his best friend while they were both on deployment. In a beautiful tie-in, Emily is the widow of Holden’s best friend, Andrew. And while Holden and Miranda both feature in this book, you can read this as a standalone.

Emily’s world was shattered when her husband was killed in action. But she held herself together for the sake of their daughter, Parker. Years later, and their lives are mostly solitary, with only each other to lean on, but they’ve packed themselves up and moved to a small town near Holden and Miranda, and are busily settling in to their new life. And it’s while embracing her new life that Emily is on a girl’s night out, and shares a sizzling connection with a stranger at a bar. That connection turns into a blisteringly hot one-night-stand which is completely out of character, but which absolutely rocks her world. Weston is an ex-marine who is grieving his own loss. Like Emily, his life is pretty isolated, and limited to one-off hook-ups, but his night with Emily turns out to be more than he was ever expecting.

Despite the heaviness of Weston and Emily’s losses, and the grief that they are both still dealing with, there’s a fantastic sense of fun to this book. The attraction between them is intense, but neither of them expect it – or particularly want it – so we get this fabulous dynamic that is so entertaining. The chemistry between them is absolutely electric and it influences everything between them. The snark and banter is fantastic, they bicker and fight, they tease and flirt, and the sexy time is seriously hot! And when Weston realises just how deep he’s gotten, it’s all on.

I’d figure it out. We’d figure it out together because there was no way in hell that I could stay away from her any longer. I was done with that bullshit. I was done pretending that she wasn’t mine.

Oh Weston *dreamy sigh*. He’s a fantastic romantic hero who reminded me a bit of a Kristen Ashley hero – and that’s always a good thing. He’s a motorcycle riding alpha who says things how it is, and isn’t afraid to push when it comes to getting what he wants. But he’s a big softie underneath, a wonderful combination of determination and swoony romance, and God, I loved him!

“I didn’t plan on this. I didn’t plan on you. But I’m damn sure not giving you up.”

This is such a great story. I loved the back and forth between these two, and while that can lead to frustration in other books, here it worked because the chemistry is so freaking good! I could feel everything that they were feeling, and I loved being swept up with them. I could also empathise with both of them. We see the depth of their grief, and their fear of opening their hearts to someone again, and watching them work hard to overcome it and find the strength to put themselves out there all over again is a beautiful journey.

“She makes me want to try again … She makes me want to live.”

He was undoing me, breaking me down, little by little, until he owned every bit of my soul and I was letting him because I was helpless against it.
I was done fighting this thing between us, I was ready to burn with him.

There is some drama, but it’s understandable, and it’s just a matter of watching them work through it to get to the beautiful HEA that had me grinning like a fool.

I loved this book so much. It made me laugh, it made me cry, and it made me swoon so hard. Such a great read.

REVIEW: 3.5 STARS
"My chest burned with every breath, fire in my lungs, agony in my heart. My body and soul ached unbearably."

Ok?? Did you read that synopsis? Tell me that doesn't make your heart want to get its battle gear on!!? I knew I was going to jump into this one with a smile knowing that the heart was guarded by not one, but TWO characters - and I was here for it!!

Having said all that, I have officially read my FIRST Amie Knight book and I will most definitely read her again. When I am in the mood for an easy read, one that I know will bring a smile to my face - I know I can turn to her books. This book, this one brought me all the smiles with Emily and Weston's electric connection and heartfelt fight to persevere through the muck to get to the beauty. That part of this book is what kept me reading - I won't lie. I loved that they fought, but came together....literally and figuratively.

A journey that met plenty of obstacles, I knew this needed to have some heartbreaking moments interspersed with the high-flying, endorphine causing happy times in order for it to truly work. I have made no secret of my love for the up and down aspect of a relationship that is ripe with turmoil - because in the end, that shows the tenacity of the love that is fighting to push through and survive. This one definitely had that. I needed that for a new voice in my library. While it wasn't super hard hitting, and could have given me some more "time" in a sense of allowing the emotions to percolate, I did really enjoy the ease in which I read this book.

One of my favorite things is a "warning" before I go in. I love the fact that a story is going to give me something to think about. The words are going to give me something to hold onto and dig deeper into. This one? I was warned by a dear friend that I would need some tissues for this one, and knowing me - you know I don't cry easily - so that was a warning I was excited about. That quote I posted up there definitely started the potential for the tears. Knight put me in Emily's heart...in her broken soul, and she made me feel Emily's agony and pain over the loss of her husband. I put myself in her shoes because I can't fathom the thought of losing my husband who is my best friend. So, this really started out with a bang for me.

However, this one didn't produce any tears, because I feel the rush to get the emotions out was almost too quick, not allowing my emotions the time to punctuate. BUT, it most definitely had the potential. It just didn't quite hit hard enough for me. So the truth for ME: I was expecting more oomph behind the words. I wanted that depth and that angsty pull that I always crave when matters of the heart are involved. I like the pain...we all know this. This one just didn't provide the angsty pull I would have hoped it had given that synopsis and predicament both characters were in, but I can still say it was a great book and I enjoyed it a lot.

Overall, this was a quick and easy read and a good introduction to Amie Knight. Easy is the word of the day because it was a great read but the writing was not overly deep for me. Definitely worth the read and a good base for me for her voice, so I know what to expect when I dive into my next book of hers. Bring on the recommendations!! (Note for new readers: this is book four in a series, but is a standalone. We meet some previous characters, but there isn't any overlap to worry about.)

"Weston may have owned my heart, but fear had an insurmountable choke hold on my soul."

I absolutely loved every minute of this book! Well and sensitively written, it captures such a wide range of emotions in a manner which draws you in and does not let go. The start had my heart in pieces, but Amie Knight does not descend into sentimentality. She brings you to that feeling directly and then guides you through the process of slow healing to a wonderful place where both leads, Emily and Weston can, authentically, accept happiness as their gift.
This book is filled with wonderful characters, some from previous books and the widening of the world being created is most welcome. Special shout out to Bev and the few, well chosen, words of Alan 😍. Emily, Weston, Parker, and the whole cast of players, won my heart and my undivided attention. I couldn't put my kindle down and did not want to finish. Fabulous! 💖💖💖💖💖

I really loved A "Steel Heart" by this author and this was another beautiful addition to this emotional series .
Both Weston and Emily are no strangers to the loss of a beloved ...and this second chance at love storyline was poignant, sweet and heartfelt...also scary for these two... to open up again to the chance of happiness and a lasting relationship.

Six glowing stars.

Gorgeously written, Amie Knight’s “A Wild Heart” is the perfect blend of heat and heart.

Grief comes in all forms, and Ms. Knight’s story introduces us to Emily and Weston— two souls dealing with grief in their own way.

Emily moves to a new town with her teenage daughter, seeking a new life. Not only is Emily ensconced in unfamiliar territory, but she also finds herself in new situations. Dinner with new friends. A new job at a salon. A one-night stand with a nameless stranger.

Weston lives in the same town he’s lived in all his life. Weekly breakfasts with loved ones. Saving lives as a firefighter. But one night with a beautiful and sassy stranger upends his well-constructed life.

True to her storytelling, Ms. Knight offers little nuggets sandwiched between everyday situations. Nuggets that become bullets, hitting straight to your heart. One moment, I’m laughing while reading a scene, only to reach for a box of tissues a few paragraphs later. And I’d be remiss not to mention the steamy moments that were so blazing hot, I’m surprised my kindle didn’t burn.

"A Wild Heart" is an unforgettable, poignant and tender story about two heartbroken individuals finding a second chance at life and love.

Emily and her fifteen year old daughter Parker move to South Carolina to be closer to the college that she planning on going. Emily lost her husband five years ago and closed up her heart. She lives near Holden, who was friends with her husband Andrew and his wife Miranda. Emily goes out with Miranda one night and meets a man who she has a one night stand with. Weston also has lost someone and is closed off. They start a friends with benefits relationship, but they both start feeling more. Can they open their hearts to the each other or with they run? Great characters and storyline Amazing book. Love Westin and Emily. The supporting characters make you want them to be your friends and family.

Excuse me while I try to write a worthy review through all the tears and high flying emotions. What a flipping story!! It is in my opinion one of the best this author has written. Full of feelings and the hope of redeeming what was once lost. These characters are incredible and I highly recommend you click immediately. Then prepare to get nothing done because once you dive in, you won’t want to stop until the end. Even then you will want more. It’s so stinking good.

I... I just finished an absolutely WONDERFUL BOOK today and now that I'm going through all my emotions... I... I'm crying here right now while I'm writing this review. 😭❤️
Phew... so let's take a deep breath and pull myself together.

A WILD HEART by Amie Knight is definitely one of my favourite books of 2022. That's for sure!

Emily's husband was killed in action. Now all she has left is her grieving self and her teenage daughter. Trying to deal with that loss she meets this mysterious man with those sad eyes... there's this special kind of connection... but what will Emily do? And who's that appealing stranger?

A Wild Heart by Amie Knight deals with really emotional and intense content. The loss of someone important in the lives of both main characters plays an important role in the book.
Well... I cried a lot! I cried soooo much and all started with that emotional dedication and OMG the prologue. WOW. 😭 So emotional! 😭
The beautiful love story of Emily and Weston will stay with me forever! That's for sure! ❤️
I felt with them and devoured every little moment of their story because next to their loss they've this special connection as well.
THIS CHEMISTRY! WOW! I SWOONED! A LOT!
AND OMG THE SEXY TIMES TOGETHER?!
❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 DAMN!
It was wonderful to experience the relationship development along their way together... and how they dealt with their personal issues. 🤗
Emily and Weston are definitely one of my favourite couples this year! 😍❤️
I'm sure there's so much more I forgot to mention about this book...
I JUST LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!
You've got a whole bunch of intense, sad, emotional, romantic, hot and beautiful moments all together.
Perfect combination! ❤️

Knight’s words are always beautifully poetic and her characters are multi-layered, vulnerable, and so compelling. I eagerly await her new releases, and the premise of this one really intrigued me. She doesn’t pull any punches, beginning this one with a direct hit to the heart.

After her husband is killed in action, Emily Davies dedicates herself to raising her daughter. Eventually, some friends convince Emily to move to their small town, which makes sense, because her daughter will be going to college nearby in a few years. On a rare girls' night out, Emily meets a man and decides to take a walk on the wild side. But sometimes a single night turns into more, and the one person you don’t want is the one you need most.

I loved so much about this story. The daughter, Parker, in wise beyond her years, and Weston is the perfect stoic, alpha, marshmallow-hearted hero who's no stranger to loss and grief. And while I applaud the strength Emily showed when she first lost her husband, I wish that strength would have carried over into her relationship with Weston, rather than her tendency to avoid when things got challenging.

This one has a lot to offer, with a mid-life romance, an over-protective friend, and Emily learning to open herself to new people. Emotional, tender, and heartwarming, this small-town romance is sure to put a smile on your face and a happy sigh in your heart.

Ever since her husband passed away five years earlier while serving his country Emily has dedicated her life to her daughter Parker. They have recently relocated so that they can be near friends and to purse Parker’s educational pursuits. When she meets Weston, the sparks fly and she never expected to see him again however fate had other ideas.

Weston is a firefighter who has endured a tragic loss of his own and doesn’t ever want to experience that pain again. He is drawn to Emily in a way he wasn’t prepared for but he never expected one night to no be enough or that she would be the first person to make him feel for a long time.

Neither Emily nor Weston are looking for love or a relationship but sometimes the best things in life happen when you least expect it. Their journey is filled with heart wrenching emotion, a beautiful romance and all the feels as they try to heal from the past so that they can have the happiness they both deserve.

A emotionally charged romance that gives you angst, hope, and a story of two people so broken they are just shells of themselves. But once these two get past all the hardened walls, we get one beautiful romance that is a must read.
Amie Knight has seriously outdone herself.

Emily is a broken hearted woman who is stuck in a pattern. She’s lonely but will do anything for her daughter. Even pick up and move. So she moves close to her husbands best friend and his wife. After settling in Emily is in need of a night out. That’s when her world changes.

Weston is one hero that you fall for instantly. I’m not going into much detail because I don’t want to give away any spoilers because YOU NEED THIS BOOK IN YOUR LIFE.

All you need to know is that this book will check all your romance boxes!! I couldn’t put this book down. A favorite book of 2022. Highly recommended.

A*r*c team read.

Oh. My. Heart

Oh, this book was beautiful, sweet torture to read.

The feels were extreme—I rarely cry in books but I came very close in this one. The pain and agony radiating from the pages punched me right in the chest.
Weston and Emily both had horrific losses to deal with, so, it's definitely not a book for the fainthearted.

In between all the sad were moments of pure joy, beauty, hope and love. The way Mrs Knight manages to balance it out is like...magic.

Steamy, intense chemistry, diversity and acceptance are just a few of the things you can expect to enjoy in this gorgeous story.
It was truly heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.
I really enjoyed the humour that was injected through Parker and Bev, they were an absolute treat.

Make sure to get the extra epilogue, it is seriously sweet.

This one will pull tears from you and make you feel every pain along the way including the happy ones. This book is wow I don't know where to begin.

This is the story of Weston and emily. Both are widows but when Emily caught westons eye it was the forever type want that surprised him the most. Emily a single mom just out for a girls night never thought she would be with a guy again well not like this but what starts as a nameless one night stand turns into more.

You need to read this one it is book four but can be read as a stand-alone book but after this one I want to read the others and see if the pull towards them is just as strong. I hope we get more of this crew of characters soon

Amie Knight continues to be one of my all-time favorite authors who consistently delivers some of the most exceptional stories that I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Her books own me heart and soul. They take hold of every single one of my emotions, allow me to feel and live and experience everything with her dynamic characters, and give me unforgettable love stories along the way. Her books are truly the best, and the way that she so thoughtfully and purposefully crafts her words elevates every one of her books and characters and moments to the next level.

Simply put, Amie Knight is an author who I can always count on to create a romantic, all-feeling love story that will blow me away from start to finish.

A Wild Heart was no different.

In fact, this might be my new favorite of all of her books because this story…this story was PHENOMENAL. It was deeply emotional and raw. It was spicy as hell. It was captivating in a way that felt so authentic and real. It was heartfelt in a way that truly made everything mean so much more. It was layered and so well put together that it had me crying and laughing and melting and utterly consumed from page to page. From beginning to end it created a reading experience and story that I will truly never forget and will honestly treasure forever.

A Wild Heart was everything and more.

I loved every single second and word and paragraph and moment that I got with Emily and Weston. Those two definitely know how to show you that a second chance at love is possible, and more than that, that a second chance at love can bring you everything you didn’t even know you wanted if you keep your heart open to it. Those two definitely put you through the wringer a bit, but they also show you that they have to find their way to be together. They show you that they are two halves of a whole that needs to be put together for the rest of time. Those two have a very special way of showing you that they are meant to be.

Emily and Weston show you and themselves throughout the events of this book that they might’ve had an unconventional start, they might both be fighting the hurt and anguish of the past, they might both be fighting against what’s building between them, and they might both be wondering what in the hell they’re doing and if it’s all worth it, but they also show you that they are beyond worth it.

They show you that they’re both worth fighting for.
They show you that they are about to turn each other’s worlds upside down in ways they didn’t even think were possible. .
They show you that a second chance at love can truly give you the world if you let it.
They show you that family and friendship are everything, and that those are the people who will pull you through even the darkest of days.
They show you that the one person you never expected, the one person you never even wanted, might just be the one person who can heal you and put you back together again.

They show you that what they feel and build and share together is nothing short of everything.

What I loved about Emily and Weston is they had both been through so much, so they both knew what was at stake. They both knew what was happening between them was so very real. (Even when they tried to deny it to themselves and others.) They were both fighting like hell to try to heal and keep it together, all while feeling something so true and vulnerable that it scared them out of their hearts. Throughout this entire book you get to be a part of their journey together as they heal from their pasts, as they see if a future together is possible, and as they feel every bit of that fiery pull and connection to one another that they just can’t quit. (No matter how hard they might try.)

I truly can’t get enough of this book and what I got with these dynamic and unforgettable characters. A Wild Heart is one of the best books I have read this year and will definitely be going down as one of my top reads of the year. Amie Knight wrote a book that lets her talent as an author and storyteller shine on every page, and that shows again and again that she is an author to be reckoned with. Her words truly owned every one of my emotions from start to finish, and she gave me a story that I will absolutely treasure for the rest of time.

This book checked all the boxes for me.

It was deeply and meaningfully emotional. It was exceptionally written and crafted in a way that felt so real, so true and honest, and in a way that seared my heart and soul to these characters. This book gave me two characters who fought like hell against what they felt, but who I also knew right from the start had to be together. This story gave me a relationship between a mother and a daughter that truly touched every part of my heart. This story gave me friends and family who were willing to do it all for those they cared about. This story gave me such fire between all of these characters and such glorious possibilities of what could be.

A Wild Heart made me feel like I was watching and experiencing the most mesmerizing firework display that could be. It was captivating as hell. It was full of glorious color and vibrancy. It was beaming with personality and life that left a tangible spark. It left me in awe and just ready for more. From start to finish I was enamored with it all and blown away by what those fireworks delivered with these characters.

It was truly the best.

This book brought me back to a world that I fell in love with so long ago. It’s a world that brought me to Amie Knight and her writing, and it’s a world that I will forever be grateful for because of that. Amie Knight brings you back to the world of her Hearts Series in a way that is fresh, meaningful, and heartfelt. She finds the absolute best balance of giving you a new all-feeling love story and set of incredible characters, while also connecting into the stories and characters that have come before it that make this series what it is. The way that it all comes together equally makes it a great trip back to the most amazing world and series, while also being a phenomenal new chapter that’s a great place to start for new readers.

I think that speaks to Amie Knight and what she creates with her stories and characters that you get all of that and more in this book. She truly leaves it all on the pages of this book and it makes for a love story that you will never want to have end. It makes for a love story that you will believe in with all that you have and that will have you knowing that that heart will get what they heart wants because there is no other possibility.

A Wild Heart was consuming, full of fire and connection, and had more emotion and heart than you can shake a stick at. It gives you Emily and Weston in the most authentic and meaningful way from start to finish, and I am telling you that you will love it and them. All of the dynamics and relationships and emotions explored in this book will pull you fiercely to these characters, and that is everything. It’s really more than everything because this author just makes it all mean so much more, and honestly, this review is just scratching the surface of how much I love this book.

Amie Knight brings it all to this emotionally charged story of a second chance at love that will bring these characters everything they never thought was possible again. Through every turn of this page in this book you will fall deeper and deeper in love with them, what they’re creating together, and what they do to one another. By the end of it all you will know in your heart and soul that they are the exact one the other didn’t even know they were looking for, but that they so vehemently needed. When it all comes together, you will truly be in awe of the beauty and heart you get with these two and it will own you and all of your emotions. Trust me on that.

A Wild Heart was absolutely incredible and is a book you need in your life as soon as humanly possible. Trust. Me. Amie Knight is at her best in this book and you will love what she gives you with her words and characters. You will be in love with it all and will honestly just bask in the romance, heat, heart, and emotion of it all, while simultaneously knowing with your whole heart that Emily and Weston are two souls who will give each other (and you!) everything.

Simply put, you need this book, these characters, and this story in your life. So just do yourself a favor and read it. Read it, live it, experience it, and love it all with Emily and Weston. You won’t regret it. I can promise you that, and in the end you will get one of the best love stories that will give you it all. And it truly doesn’t get better than that.

The beginning of this book I was full on in tears, commiserating in that deep well of grief, but then...oh my...oh my, oh my, my kindle just about light on fire and when the pages weren't smoking, I was laughing out loud. This book was a complete rollercoaster and the ride was everything!!!

Weston and Emily are total fire in the sheets every single time they come together, but as much as they try to keep their one night stand to just that; no names, no connection and definitely no seeing one another again...their booty call keeps redialing. It's also amazing how those calls also lead to things like caring and meeting family and dinners and...and...and. No matter what either one of them do, because it's not one sided, it truly is both of them, (and I honestly cannot remember a story where both characters are grumpy about what's happening, but it makes for comedic situations and some very hot steamy moments) but a one night stand is not supposed to turn into more, until it does.

Even though both Weston and Emily are somewhat grumpy, or sad, it's sort of a fine line..these two are soooo good for the other, but they are so wrapped up in their sadness and grief it's impossible to see the sunshine when they've both been living in the dark.

If there was ever a heart opening story that made me laugh and cry, but also full of steam and passion it's this book. It was so good.

AN EPIC ROMANCE REVIEWS TOP PICK!

Wowzer! With A WILD HEART, Amie Knight penned a gorgeously angsty and gloriously romantic tale about the healing power of love that's truly unforgettable!

PREMISE:
Emily Davies’ life was shattered when her Army medic husband, Andrew, was killed in the line of duty. But even though her heart was irrevocably broken, she had a daughter to raise and had to put one foot in front of the other for both their sakes. Five years later, she and Parker move to a small South Carolina town near Andy’s best friend Holden and his wife Miranda (featured in A STEEL heart). And while she’s managed to pick up the pieces of her life there is still a huge hole in Emily’s heart that she vows will never be filled. But the trajectory of her life changes once again when she meets a big, hard eyed, broodingly handsome stranger at a bar during Girl’s Night Out and sizzling sparks fly!

Before she knows it, Emily and this magnetic stranger are burning up on the dance floor and he asks her to go home with him. Throwing caution to the wind, she hops onto the back of his motorcycle and the night ends with a filthy hot one night stand that rocks both their worlds! But she’s not in the market for love and that’s just fine with Weston Reeves because this mysteriously sexy ex-Marine turned Firefighter also suffered an unspeakable loss and isn’t looking for happily ever after either. One-night hookups are his MO, but he knows that one time between the sheets with this gorgeous, stubborn, beautifully broken woman will never be enough. So, they embark on a no-strings attached affair and against all odds, these lonely hearts find a kindred spirit in each other. But while these friends with benefits know that catching feelings for each other breaks all the rules, Weston not only manages to resuscitate Emily’s heart, and vice versa, but melt her daughter’s as well. Can these lost, wounded souls overcome their greatest fears and take the ultimate risk on love?

MY MUSINGS:
A WILD HEART took me on one WILDLY INTENSE ride that I never wanted to get off of! I was swept up in this heart-stirring love story from start to finish and treasured so much about this deeply emotional tale about love and loss, grief and recovery, and the beauty of new beginnings, I don’t know where to start!

But I shall try…

First of all, this story TOUCHED me to the core and had me shedding many a tears, but it also lifted me up and filled me with so much joy and hope! As is her trademark, Amie Knight manages to infuse humor and wit into even the most heartbreaking storylines so thankfully this tale never veered into maudlin territory.

I adored the dynamic between Emily and Weston, who share an instant attraction from the moment they first lock eyes across the bar. I couldn’t get enough of their witty repartee, and the palpable push pull and fiery sparks between them absolutely lit up my kindle. And completely electrified my heart! But SOB! Losing the love of her life really decimated Emily’s heart, and as a consequence, she wore her emotions close to her vest and was leery of letting anyone outside of her tight-knit inner circle get too close. For this stoic southern gal was a mother first and foremost and her fierce devotion to her daughter amid an unspeakable loss made her one incredible mama bear. She’s just so darn brave and resilient and utterly lovable (with some really adorable quirks!) you can’t help but want the best for this embattled hairdresser who is not only still grieving over her lost love but also wrestling with some mighty big abandonment issues, stemming from a childhood trauma. But as it turns out, Weston could be the balm to her battered soul.. Wrapped up in his big, massive arms, he makes her feel free and uninhibited for the first time in years. Provides a blissful escape from her unending pain. Miraculously has her laughing again. And even when he INFURIATES her, she can’t get enough of him!

“This cold man with hard eyes. This stranger. He was exactly what I needed. He was what my body and soul craved. He was my high in a series of lows.”

Speaking of Weston…HOLY EFFIN SWOON! This huge, macho, former Marine-turned-firefighter had valiantly dedicated his life to serving and protecting. And yowza did this dirty-talking alpha look mighty fine sitting astride his badass Harley! Yet beneath his gruff, growly exterior lurks a big marshmallow heart. Truly the stuff that dreamy book boyfriends are made of! But like Emily, this tortured first responder suffered some mighty big blows in life and is not looking for love. Of course, fate has something else in mind for these two! Emily and Weston’s drive each other positively INSANE, but her sad broken eyes call to his own splintered soul and her fiery spirit and fighter’s heart prove irresistible to this world-weary alpha. Together, they prove to be an unstoppable force! And her daughter steals a piece of his heart too.

“These two…they were mighty and their love was big. It almost felt like too much for this old bachelor. Almost. But the bigger part of me wanted this. I wanted to be a part of this small family, with their larger-than-life love. It called to me.”

Ms. Knight really dug deep into the psyches of these characters and really did a fantastic job of showing us an unflinching look into their journey of grief and recovery. Yet even thought their fears of surrendering their hearts to love again was profound… so was their love. And HOTNESS ALERT! The sexy times were primal, deliciously naughty and oh so combustible !

Bottom line? This smoldering love story truly has it all...heartbreak and homespun charm, red hot passion and no shortage of humor either. And even though their HEA was HARD FOUGHT when West and his “Slugger” made it through to the other side the payoff was beyond sweet!

I also adored the supporting cast of characters. As a huge fan of A STEEL HEART, the tie in with Holden, whose story had featured the wounded soldier struggling with survivor’s guilt over the death of his best friend (Emily’s husband) while they were both deployed was brilliant! It was a blast watching the friendship unfold between Emily and Holden’s spitfire wife, Miranda, as well! And West’s crazy matchmaking momma, Bev, was an absolute hoot and Emily’s smart, sassy daughter, Parker was a true delight! I loved that kiddo, who was wise beyond her years, and the mother-daughter bond between these two gave me life!

FINAL THOUGHTS:
A WILD HEART was a wildly addictive, scorching hot, soul-healing love story that made me laugh and cry and has earned a richly deserved spot on my favorite of the year list!

Highly recommend!

It really pains me to write this because Amie Knight is one of my favorite authors, but this book was just not her best.

Even though it was beautifully written at times (i almost never cry while reading and I cried 2 times during this), and the side characters and relationships were incredible, it just felt sparse in romance.

Lemme explain - the MMCs started out in a fuck buddy situation and the tension was building perfectly, but then I got to about page 200 and they were already saying they loved each other in their internal monologues and yet they had not had any meaningful conversations on the page by that point which was 2/3rds of the way through. They literally knew nothing about each other and yet were supposedly in love?!? Knight usually writes the best dialogue, so it was mystifying to me how it was lacking in this book, as well as any real experiences the MMCs shared beyond late night booty calls. And then the ending was so predictable with the FMC having a PTSD episode about the MMCs line of work… and then the strange in the hospital scene where she had passed out maybe? (It wasn’t even clear what happened and why she even was taken to the hospital which they don’t do for just passing out) and they find out she’s pregnant (similar to what happened in Miranda’s book), and then it just ended with lots of telling of how things wrapped up and a sweet dinner scene, but it felt so clipped and anticlimatic.

And why was the pregnancy such a surprise if they were practicing unsafe sex and didn’t even discuss if the FMC was on birth control?

I loved all the characters, their back stories, and the potential this book had, I just wish more time was spent allowing the characters to fall in love believably by getting to know each other by showing us through shared experiences and convos, rather than telling us it was so.

A Wild Heart
Author: Amie Knight

“There’s never enough time. There’s never enough I love yous. There’s never a long enough warning. It doesn’t matter how long you know, it’s still god-f*cking-awful losing the person you love.”

Emily is a widowed single mom to a teenager. She has decided to live her life alone instead of risking losing someone again.

Weston is also a widower, he also was not looking for anyone special in his life again.

The chemistry between these two was off the charts. They meet and it is instant fire. Emily thought it would just be one night to blow of steam and feel again. But she can’t stay away from Weston. They both keep showing up for each other even though they are both terrified of losing the other.

Watching them both grow, heal and love each other was beautiful. Weston was so supportive of her and such a great addition in Parkers life.

Parker was a hoot and I loved how she encouraged her mom to do what would make her happy. They had such a great mother daughter bond.

I have read every book in this series and have loved them all. They make you laugh, cry and melt your heart. Definitely recommend this book and this entire series!

A Wild Heart is Book 4 in 'The Heart Series'. This is Emily & Weston's story. Emily's husband was killed in Combat. Years later she decides she and her daughter Parker needs a fresh start. So she moves them to a Small Town where they will be closer to their friends Holden and Miranda. Emily has gotten very closed off but Miranda talks her into a Girls Night Out. As they drink and dance Emily meets a Tall Dark and Handsome Stranger! Their Chemistry is Undeniable! So a One Night Stand and a few regrets turn into So much More. Both Emily & Weston live with Heartbreak, Can They Overcome it All to reach Their HEA? I Loved this Book so so much.. Definitely Your Next 5 ⭐ Read..

A Wild Heart by Amie Knight

Get your Kleenex box ready. This book was an emotional packed story for sure. Emily and Weston will definitely tug on your heartstrings so be prepared. It was a great story that you won’t want to miss. It is amazingly written and deals with loss and grief which I unfortunately am very familiar with this year. I think with all the loss I experienced this year one after another this book hit home a little too much so I felt this book deeply. I lost my grandpa my three uncles and my cousin all months after each other and the way the author described Emily as not being a crier and being a stoic Southern women designated with me so much. I felt the grief and the loss the author wrote on these pages. There is also the love these two share and the hope of new beginnings that made the book just be a complete full circle beautifully written romance. One I can highly recommend.

Emily's come to this town for a refresh. A widow who wants to not be sad and exhausted, brings along her teen daughter, and is just trying to be the best mother she can, and trying to get through the day. Having a very rare night out brings a hot, very alpha Weston into her life, and things are never the same after. But obstacles stand in the way of any kind of committed relationship, including both their grief, and insecurities at starting a new relationship. Will this couple be able to get past the pain of their pasts and allow a new lease on life together?

Weston saw the pain in Emily's eyes the first night they met. He saw and recognized it because it mirrors his own. He too has lost, and it's made him shut off the idea of love again. But seeing that pain in her makes him want to help heal it, even as she fights him. Two more scarred souls could not be found, but if they each are willing to let the other in, they can have something beautiful.

Right in the heart! That's where A Wild Heart got me, and where I felt this story the entire way through. So much pain, but the way Emily and Weston forged their way through it, together is just beautiful. I admit to shedding more than a few tears, but I was smiling by the time the sweet ending was finished. I think this just may be one of my favorite reads this year with all its emotion, and the love they finally found with each other.

A WILD HEART by Amie Knight is a deeply emotional story. I was crying even before I started reading the book. The author's Dedication was to her Grandma that had passed away this year. I could identify with her feelings. Then I cried during the Prologue, when Emily Davies heard the doorbell ring at 1:00 in the morning. She knew that no good news would be delivered at that ungodly hour, especially if your husband was a deployed soldier. Her grief and sorrow was understandable. I, of course, cried with her over her loss! Her whole world now was centered around her young daughter Parker.

Five years had gone by and Emily felt it was time for them to move. Her husband's best friend, Holden, wanted her and Parker to move closer to him and his wife. He said Andy would want him to watch over them. She uprooted her fifteen year old daughter and moved to start a new life. Emily felt she was socially inept, but there was no way Holden's wife, Miranda, was putting up with her anti-social existence. She wanted to take her for a girls night out with drinks and dancing. Emily did not have any desire to do this but caved to Miranda's persistence. That night out would be life changing, but at the time she didn't know it. When after having a few drinks Miranda told her she was being watched by a tall, dark, and handsome man. Emily had never looked at another man in the five years since her husband's death. But this stranger had the darkest troubled eyes, and she looked right back at him. She danced with him, and what would it hurt if they had a one night stand? Or became friends with benefits? His name was Weston Reeves and he had grief and sorrow of his own. It seemed like a miracle, a second chance, a new beginning, when all hope was gone. Or was it just too good to be true?

Emily's world implodes when her husband is killed in action. She's suddenly a single mom with no one to turn to and her heart breaks every day. Five years later, her husband's best friend convinces her to move her family across the country and Emily decides she has nothing to lose. Holden and his wife Miranda are the only family they have, so why not be closer? She hasn't been open to dating since Andrew died but when she meets Weston, he's just what she needs for the night. Their attraction turns into more and they're consumed with one another, but also confused by their feelings. Their hearts belong to other people so this can't work. Or so they think. This story is an emotional rollercoaster and I loved every minute of it.

This one hits you right in the feels for so many reasons. Emily has always had a lonely life but then she found her one true love, only to lose him. She’ll never get over Andrew but that’s okay because she doesn’t want to get over him. Enter Weston. A former military man, he has his own sad story and is no more inclined to move on with his life than she is, so it’s a perfect opportunity to have some fun with no expectations. But the heart wants what it wants, no matter how much you may fight it. They’re two damaged, broken people who find comfort together and it turns in to something more. It starts out sad but they’re so good for each other and their HEA made my heart happy.

Overall I enjoyed reading A Wild Heart by Amie Knight. This is the first book that I've read by Amie and I thought she was a great writer, and wrote a compelling story of life and falling in love after losing the person you thought you were going to spend your life with.
The one thing that I didn't care for is how the main characters, Weston and Emily, started their relationship. It had nothing to do with the fact that they started with a one night stand, it had more to do with how they treated one another afterwards. And I understand that a lot of their behavior was just neither Weston or Emily thinking they were ready for a real relationship. In fact both of them were determined to remain single for the rest of their lives, but I just thought both of them behaved very mean towards one another so I just don't understand how they would have ever gotten into any sort of relationship.
That aside I truly enjoyed this story. I thought that both Emily and Weston's journeys to moving past the spouses that they lost was very sweet and moving. But I have to say my favorite part of this story was the interactions with Emily's daughter, Parker. I loved how good of a guy Weston was with her and I thought Emily was just the best mother. She was there for Parker no matter what. My favorite scene was when Parker came out to Emily and she wholeheartedly accepted her daughter for who she was and not who she thought she should be. And what made it all the better was when Parker asked if her dad would have been okay with it, Emily remembered a tape from the day Parker was born where her husband corrected Emily by saying or she could have a wife and that he just wanted her to be happy.

It's been a while since I've read this author, and seeing as how I was crying buckets of tears in the prologue alone, I'm going to rectify that as soon as possible. This book was filled with a lot of pain and heartbreak, but also new beginnings and an understanding and mature love that makes us feel all the feels. Plus there's some truly laugh out loud moments, and scorching chemistry that made me not want to put my kindle down!

Emily lost her husband Andrew when he was deployed, and had to put his treasure box (IYKYK 😭😭) sooner than she ever anticipated, but now has to be strong for their young daughter. Since Emily has a heartbreaking past, it's just the two of them for years, until Emily decides to move closer to Holden (her husband's best friend) and give her daughter the possibility of more family, but she never expected a rare girls night to lead to her having a hoottt one night stand (and the first time she's had sex since her husband died) and she definitely never expected to fall in love and have her world turned upside down again.

Weston was an incredible hero, and I loved that since he was a widow too, he really connected with Emily on another level. And I truly adored how they didn't hold if against the other for still missing and loving their spouses so acutely, and knowing that didn't take away from their own love. The chemistry they share is just out of this world, and between all their snark and banter, as well as the heat and laughs, made this such an amazing read.

I'm definitely going to go back and binge the rest of the series, but just know that this is one of the best and most emotional romances of the year. Go one click now!

This is my first book from Amie Knight and it was not a disappointment. I did not expect to cry so soon within the first few pages. Emily just lost her husband as he was KIA and it was possibly described as one of the most heartbreaking things. I think the relationship that Emily has with her daughter despite losing her husband is one of the most beautiful things. I loved that the relationship between mother and daughter wasn’t lost because she no longer had her partner and she no longer had a dad. They supported each other and love each to no ends. It is when Emily moves to be closer to Andy’s best friend (Andy is her husband), Holden and his wife Miranda, that she meets Weston – the one who will take over her world in ways she’s not prepared for. Their first meeting is all casual and fun but it isn’t until they continue to seek one another and sparks fly. What I like is that while there is a pretty big roller coaster ride for these two, they are essentially still on the same ride. They are never too far from one another and the loss that they have both faced has helped them to understand what one needs. Weston is incredibly charming and I absolutely looooove his tenacity and how he doesn’t cower in the face of uncharted territory. Although I did hope for the story to be more than just a push & pull, it was quite enjoyable and it doesn’t help that Weston IS all that. 😊

Emily and Weston have both lived through tragedy and neither thought they would ever feel love in the same way again. However, time spent together began to open their hearts and a one night stand turned friends with benefits situation gradually grew into something more and I loved every moment of it.

I loved these characters. Their initial attraction was hot and fiery and would have become nothing more than the occasional hook up were it not for the fact that Emily couldn’t stay away from Weston. I think he made her feel alive, or certainly feel something other than the grief she’d felt for so many years. I loved how he let Emily lead the way for a while, at her own pace. For me, her initial reluctance and hesitancy was understandable given her past. Despite the ups and downs of their relationship, I held out hope that they could get past the many emotional obstacles and find their way to a happy ever after.

Well written, with lots of feels, this book will tug at your heart strings. There’s some humor and also some angst courtesy of well meaning supporting characters, and lots of steamy chemistry. It’s a beautiful story of love and grief, hope and second chances.
