Lots of fantasy worldbuilding and sex

I enjoyed the fantasy and combat of this book, but it had much more sex than I prefer in a story, verging on erotica at times. If that's your thing, you'll probably like this. That aside, there is a lot of good action backed by rich political and magic systems. Definitely has a sleek, modern feel, not unlike a marvel comic. You'll find lots of smart writing and humor in here, and the main couple is characterized vividly. As a resident of Hampton Roads, VA, it's nice seeing references to areas I'm familiar with.

Some lines I liked:
-"Don't go falling in love or anything. We tried that once."
-"I'd much rather explore her than do research. Little Quyen was in charge..."
-"Money management was a survival skill on par with self-defense. A practitioner needed resources to disappear and remove obstacles."
-"Congrats on you two making me feel conflicted."

I can tell that the author thought very deeply about her world and magic and the interplay of characters and organizations in the book, which adds great realism. My only complaint is that the book has lots of cliched phrases. To be clear, the plot elements felt specific and nuanced enough to avoid cliche at the story/trope level--it was just much of the prose had cliched sayings. Overlook that and the writing is pretty solid. Especially character interactions and dialogue.

Fans of very "spicy" fantasy should try this.

I tried I really did. I love a book with a FMC that can fight but this book was just hard to get into. It took awhile for me to understand the world and what was going on. I kept going (got 68% through and skipped to end ish and quit because I hated what I read ) thinking it would get good eventually but it dragged . I couldn’t get into the Quan and Pandora relationship AT ALL, he met her and pretty much slept with her after one night and instant love (more like lust) , I jump to the end because I just couldn’t bare reading the rest and read Quan goes over a year without speaking to her?? Wtf I was more convinced he actually loved Tonya (his friends with benefits) . Matt was Toxic AF but from what I read he actually loved Pandora in his villain way and I preferred him over Quan to be with her (or made them a reverse harem). I can’t put my finger on why exactly this story was so hard to read but it literally gave me a headache, or the fact the author put more effort convincing me Quan loved his FWB than he loved Pandora and Matt love Pandora more the Quan could ever. Pandora just loved her and Quan physical connection.
