Well well well, this is the quirkiest, the sweetest, the most entertaining, the most scientific and romantic execution of Groundhog Theme.

This book’s plot was more similar with Palm Springs, Russian Doll ( two guys stuck in the same time loop) than Happy Death Day ( only similarities the events take place at the college but thankfully no serial killer involved)
In my opinion this is so far best Groundhog Day theme retelling. ( I loved it more than “In a holidaze” , “How to save a life”)

Time loop: stuck in a same day theme couldn’t be so adorable with RLS’ talented- feel good touch! I don’t know how she manages to create one of a kind, quirky, unique but also sweetest characters you wish to meet in person!

Barrett Bloom: old soul, aspiring future journalist who takes risk to bring out the truth in expanse being pariah of the high school, voracious pasta consumer, besties with her teen mom ( at least she was a teen when she was having her, raised Barrett alone), so hopeful to make a fresh start till she gets stuck at the same day: September 21st Wednesday: longest equinox of her life with quirky, tense, awkward, shy, smart physics student Miles Kasher- Okamoto, loveliest Jewish Japanese- American nerd: sexiest and most likable geeky character the author might have created!

They do everything to wake up at the next day: including retracing their steps, burying their heads into entire physics books in the library, doing good deeds like following Bill Murray’s steps, living live to the fullest like Samberg and Milioti did but nothing worked so far. They’ve been stuck living the same day for weeks!

But as they start to spend more time together
they slowly show respect to each other’s peculiar habits and quirkiness. Firstly they become friends and then they become more… They truly know they’re having so much fun but this can’t last longer: eventually they have to do something to get out from the time loop but HOW?

Overall: in my opinion, this is so far the best RLS book! Honestly thanking her to write it! The messages about learning to love yourself, bullying, addiction were realistically written.
And finally: I want to give million hugs to Miles!

Special thanks to NetGalley and Simon&Schuster’s Children Publishing for sharing this amazing digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts!

‘i could wake up on the same day a thousand times, and every single one would be different because of you. every single one would be life-changing. because of you.’

this quote so sweetly describes exactly what makes this story work.

i usually dont read ‘groundhogs day’ plots because of how redundant and repetitive they are, but this. this does not fall into that trap. each day miles and barrett experience again is new and different and promotes growth and moves the plot forward. and thats exactly why this story is set up for success.

adorable, humorous, and real (minus the time travel) - such a good book to pick up.

See You Yesterday is a standalone YA novel (could also be considered NA) set in college, releasing May 17, 2022! Some of what you can expect:

- rep: plus-size Jewish main character, Jewish and Japanese American love interest
- content warnings: PTSD, panic attacks, sexual harassment (past), bullying (past)
- enemies to lovers
- time loop chaos including but not limited to building an on-campus ball pit and adopting a bunch of dogs to give them the best day ever
- slowwwww burn
- my favorite first kiss I've ever written
- the hotel accidentally gave us the honeymoon suite
- ruminations about post-high school identity and how to grow when time is quite literally preventing you from moving forward

I can't wait for you to meet Barrett and Miles!!

Barrett Bloom has really been looking forward to college. Her last year in high school was rough after an expose she wrote for their newspaper exposed a scandal involving the very popular tennis team.

Needless to say, her peers were not kind in the aftermath. Barrett is craving a fresh start and a new opportunity for journalism at the college paper.

Unfortunately, September 21st, Barrett's first official day of college is an absolute disaster.

First, she gets an unexpected roommate who just so happens to be her high school nemesis. Then she gets embarrassed by another student, some cute jerk, in her Physics 101 class.

Next, she flops her interview for the newspaper. If she thought things couldn't get worse however, she was wrong as that evening she sets fire to a fraternity house.

Finally, topping the day off, her roommate locks her out of her dorm room forcing Barrett to sleep on a couch in the dorm common room.

Barrett is horrified, mortified and mystified. This was not how she envisioned her first day going.

She still hasn't chalked it up as a complete loss. There's a lot of the school year left.

She can turn this thing around, right? She can. It's fine.

The next morning, Barrett is surprised when she wakes up in her bed and gets introduced to her new, ex-high school nemesis roommate...again!!

What the heck is going on here?! Checking the date, Barrett is floored. It is September 21st; the most horrible day she just lived through mere hours ago.

The stream of events from the day prior are happening just as she knows they will. This time though, after her confrontation with the jerk from Physics 101, Barrett finds out he has been stuck in a time loop as well.

For months.

She's scared, I mean obviously this would be terrifying, but Barrett is comforted a bit by the fact she now has someone she can talk to about it.

Even if it's Miles. Frankly, he can be infuriating. Over time though, as the two work together to try to solve their predicament, they begin to soften towards one another.

Y'all. Y'all, y'all, y'all. Rachel Lynn Solomon is a gift to the world. This one seals the deal.

How the heck is she doing this?! She's cranking out book after book, like it's nothing and they're all unique, heart-warming, thought-provoking, funny, relatable and swoon-worthy. I am in absolute awe.

See You Yesterday was completely engaging from the very start. Barrett is such a likable character. She's been through some things and she not shy about working through them with the Reader.

I liked how relatable she was. I think a lot of us have probably been through similar things and taken similar blows to the ego that Barrett has. It helped me to connect with her and ultimately to become fully invested in her journey.

Additionally, Miles was such a fantastic love interest. He was smart, funny and quite interesting. He also wasn't scared to be vulnerable around Barrett. I'll admit to swooning over him a bit.

Their banter back in forth gave me life while I was reading this. I loved them as a pair. The perfect mix or personality characteristics. It was super sweet.

The nerdy time loop vibes were such a welcome change of pace for a YA Romantic Comedy. I need more of this.

Rachel Lynn Solomon is an absolute go-to author for me. She can do no wrong in my eyes. If you haven't read any of her work yet, this would be a great place to start. I feel like it's a perfect example of her style.

Thank you to the publisher, Simon Schuster Books for Young Readers, for providing me with a copy to read and review.

I absolutely adored this and cannot wait for more from RLS!!

Sweet story.

Barrett Bloom is hoping that college will be a fresh start. High school ended on a low note for her, and she enters University of Washington with a positive attitude. Yet on her first day of classes she manages to embarrass herself, flub an interview for the school newspaper, and set a fraternity house on fire. And her roommate? Oh, she's just Barrett's high school nemesis. She goes to bed the first night and to her shock and surprise, wakes up and it is Wednesday, September 21 again, the same day she just lived. After a couple of rounds, she discovers that a fellow student in her physics class, Miles, is also experiencing the same day over and over again. The two team up and try to figure out why it is happening and if they can get back to where they belong.

I love Groundhog Day type stories, so this one was satisfying from the start. I liked how the relationship between Barrett and Miles developed gradually, there's no insta love here, it is just a solid friendship that turns into something more the longer they are caught in the loop. I was rooting for them to find their way "home" and to end up together. They are both awkward and dealing with some past hurt and present baggage. The realistic nature of the characters is what endeared me to the story.

It did get a bit tedious after a while, but the book doesn't dwell too heavily on their failed attempts to get back to their present timeline. Everything they try has a purpose in revealing a bit more about the characters and allowing them to grow and learn even if it didn't have the effect they wanted.

This is a delightful YA book that has some hidden depth when you get to the end.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, all opinions are my own.

Wow, I had sm fun with this!! 😍😍 Literally so cute and entertaining 💞💞 Why is it so underrated?!

“I could wake up on the same day a thousand times, and every single one would be different because of you. Every single one would be life-changing. Because of you.”

See You Yesterday is a romance book with a Groundhog Day-esque storyline- basically, it's Barrett Bloom's first day of college and she hopes it will be a new start after a rough high school experience. But then things end up going terribly- she's humilated by Miles, a dude in her Physics class, messes up her interview for the paper and accidentally sets a frat house on fire. When she gets back to her dorm, her roommate has locked her out, so she ends up crashing on the common room couch. But then the next morning, she wakes up back in her bed and it's the first day. Again. What is going on?

I didn't have high expectations going in as I hadn't really heard anyone talking about it- but I ended up really enjoying it!! It was exactly the mix of sweet, entertaining and serious I was looking for.

Starting with the characters! For a lot of romance books, a big problem I have is that I struggle to connect to the characters. But not in this one! 😁 Both Barrett and Miles felt like real people who I could connect to and root for, and I loved reading about them. They've both been through a lot, but are helping each other work through it and support each other 🥺🥺 I really enjoyed reading through Barrett's POV- she has a really entertaining personality, while still having lots of struggles. Overall I really liked them!! 🤩🤩

I was also a big fan of Rachel Lynn Solomon's writing- it was super easy to read and as a result i FLEW through this book. She writes emotion really well and yeah, I really connected to her writing style. Also, love that this book also had a plot outside of the romance. This meant I was interested the whole time and it helped make the development of the romance feel very realistic 🥰🥰

And lastly, the main point of the book- the romance. I really liked it!! 😍😍 I really felt the chemistry between the main characters and they made SUCH a sweet couple! 🥺🥺 They both respected and supported each other sm and I loved it. The banter was also top notch, and I was swooning over all the sweet little moments they had together 💗💗

Also, no third act breakup!! 🎉🎉 There was a hitch in their relationship near the end (if you can call it that?) but it was from outside forces and not them just being stupid. I was so relieved bc I was bracing for the annoyance I knew it would bring me. Romance authors, take notes! 🙈🙈

"I'm not sure how long we stay out there, bundled inside his coat, the stars and the ocean making the night feel endless.
Two lonely people with the entire world at our fingertips."

Overall, literally so fun!! 😍😍💞💞 I would absolutely recommend if you want:

✔ Great banter
✔ Interesting plot
✔ Adorable YA romance!!
✔ Well-developed characters
✔ No third act breakup

An absolute gem of a YA romance!! I definitely need to check out more books by this author 🥰🥰

~ 4 stars

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I didn't know what to expect going in- but I ended up having such a good time with this!! 😍😍 So fun and entertaining, and with such a cute romance 🥺🥺💞💞
“I could wake up on the same day a thousand times, and every single one would be different because of you. Every single one would be life-changing. Because of you.”
For a moment, I think that if I could stop time right here, I would.
But it keeps moving. And maybe that’s even better.
Barrett Bloom is hoping that, after a rough time in high school, her freshman year at the University of Washington will be the start of the promised “it gets better” period in her life. But on September 21, her first day of classes, her new roommate turns out to be her high school nemesis, she gets humiliated by a classmate in her Physics 101 class, she blows her interview to get on the college newspaper staff, and then to top things off she accidentally starts a fire at a frat party. When she wakes up the next morning, ready to try to face the fallout of possibly the worst day of her life, she slowly realizes that it is September 21 all over again. And the next day, and the next day, and the next day ….
See You Yesterday knows that you’ve seen Groundhog Day, and makes express references to that classic movie throughout. But this novel follows the twist laid out in the recent movie Palm Springs (a must-watch on Hulu if you haven’t already seen it) because Barrett soon learns that she is not alone in this time loop. Miles, the jerk who embarrassed her during her first first day of Physics 101, has been stuck in the loop for longer than she has. Together, they try to figure out how to escape the loop and make it to September 22. Is Miles right that they need to figure out the science—relativity, parallel universes, and the many worlds interpretations of quantum mechanics—in order to escape? Or is Barrett correct that they need to right a wrong, resolve some past trauma, and earn their way back?
See You Yesterday uses the time loops to explore different parts of Barrett’s and Miles’s lives: Barrett’s nemesis Lucie, her mother, her prom date, her interest in journalism, Miles and his brother. It’s a good technique because it allows a variety of resolutions. The downside, and really the only weakness of the story, is that it’s not entirely clear which resolutions will survive into the next day. But that’s a fairly minor quibble. The relationship between Barrett and Miles develops at a believable pace, and is quite sweet. Be warned, though, that much of what drives the story is Barrett’s painful past. Her loneliness and the pain leftover from being bullied throughout high school are raw and real and tough to read in places. Still, it gives real weight to a story that could have simply been played for laughs.
I didn’t love See You Yesterday quite as much as Ms. Solomon’s earlier, excellent novel Today Tonight Tomorrow, but it is still a very entertaining read. Recommended.
P.S. Regular readers of my reviews will recall the Blaine Hall of Fame discussed in my review of Ready Player Two. There’s a Blaine referenced in this story. He’s not actually in the story, so he couldn’t qualify for the Hall—plus, he’s a terrible person. But he did inspire this line that, while objectively not true, really should be: “Besides—I’m pretty sure the Blaines of the world won in the end anyway.” 😄
rachel you have done it again!!! this story is PHENOMENAL! i had so much fun reading it! you know the feeling of getting giddy and kicking your feet like a school girl? that’s exactly what i was doing during the moments with barrett and miles! i absolutely adored barrett and felt for her as we got to know her backstory and what happened to her her senior year. and miles ugh my heart couldn’t take it! i liked how we saw him come out of his shell and release some of that uptightness he was holding. as the story progresses we get more and more of what makes these characters who they are and it was done seamlessly! the plot and the story flowed really well and i thoroughly enjoyed this book! from the little quirks and everything in between, it was well worth it and i recommend this book to anyone who will listen!
Such a cute romance!! I enjoyed every moment of reading this book and flew through it in under a day - I just couldn't put it down. From the funny and realistic characters, to the vaguely slow and absolutely adorable romance, this book had everything I needed from a YA romcom.
"This guy must have also gone to Lucie Lamont's School of the Outrageously Uptight and majored in Taking Everything Personally. I can't think of any other explanation for why he's so combative at 8:47 in the morning. In this economy? Who had the energy?"
The characters were all just such sweethearts, and everyone from the MC to her mum to the love interest's brother were incredibly well developed. I was invested in the relationship between the two mains in about half a chapter flat, and I absolutely loved the fat rep and - of course - the biracial rep. Nothing hits harder than being able to truly relate to a character while reading!
"I'm not half Japanese, half Jewish. I'm both-- Japanese and Jewish."
The humour also made this book really fun, plus the unique Groundhog Day storyline - and I loved the clear nods to the original Groundhog Day throughout the book. Both characters had their issues, and not everything was light and fluffy, but the progression of both their relationship and their individual character development was so well done and so much fun to read.
So glad I read this, highly recommended!! Super cute and a wonderful light and easy read, while still tackling some serious issues. Thank you so much to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the free copy provided in exchange for an honest review :).
“I could wake up on the same day a thousand times, and every single one would be different because of you. Every single one would be life-changing. Because of you.”
See You Yesterday is a ya romance that had a 'groundhog day' plot and was a slow burn/friends to lovers romance.
Barrett is ready to start her first day of college, as high school wasn't the best for her. Well, after her first day of college it turns out college doesn't seem to be much better. Then she wakes up and has to relive her first day of college. Over and over again. But here's the kicker- she's not reliving it alone.
Miles has been stuck on this day for even longer than Barrett. Neither one of them knows why they're in this time loop or how to get out. They get up to a lot of things trying to 'fix this' and along the way, they become friends. And yes... even maybe fall in love.
I adored Miles and Barrett. They were both fantastic characters and Solomon's writing was great as always. I especially love her ya and would recommend this one!
Rachel Lynn Solomon has done it again. I was a bit worried about the fact that groundhog day could become repetitive in a book but Rachel did it so well. She is such a talented writer and one of my favourite authors of all time. This book had me on my toes with the ideas of parrellel universes, deja vu and the explanation of physics. From someone who went into the book not knowing anything about the theory of parrellel universes, this was so easy to understand with the way Rachel explained it! I can't wait to read more of the work and delighted to hear she has at least three more books in the works for the next two years. The question is: when is someone going to make a series or movie adaptation of at least one of her books? Please, I beg.
GREAT CHARACTERS, SWEET ROMANCE AND A FANTASTICAL PLOT TO DIE FOR 😍
This book had everything.
😍 What I Loved 😍
Barrett: The first thing I fell in love with was Barret. Honestly, how could I not? Barret was absolutely great and so relatable. She was awkward, weird, blunt and oh so sweet. It was obvious that she was out of her depth in social relations and I related with that so hard. I loved following Barrett's evolution throughout the story. While she didn't loose anyone of her dorkiness or her awkwardness (thank god!) she still grew in a very satisfactory way.
Miles: The second thing I fell in love with was Miles. Actually, he might be my new literary crush. He was adorable. He had this serious exterior, he was super nerdy but also sensitive and vulnerable. It just made him super likable and crushable and amazing.
Relationship: Barrett and Miles had the sweetest relationship. And part of what made it so sweet was how believable it was. I was amazed at how naturally Solomon portrayed how their relationship evolved ever so slowly. It felt fresh and right and perfect for those two. This might be a slow burn romance, but in the absolute best way possible.
Plot: Miles and Barrett are trapped in a time loop, forced to relieve the same day over and over. While that could easily become tiresome and repetitive, Solomon managed to make each look fresh and unique, slowly adding on to the plot day by day. So it didn't feel like a repeat - it felt like an evolving story. It takes talent to achieve that and Solomon definitely has that.
Could we pleaaase get more YA/NA books that focus less on perfect looks? I loved that Barrett is plus-sized and still eats normal stuff. As for Miles, his ears stick out. Yes, they do. So what?
I have to admit, I knew Rachel Lynn Solomon’s name but had never read anything by her. No clue why. I could come up with thousands of excuses. An over-piling TBR, cheesy covers (while I love the colors!), too popular, whatever. And she actually lives in the country where I come from!!
See You Yesterday is a funny, heartwarming, and sweet story about two students trapped in a time loop, and I smiled so much that my face hurt. My favorite by far was Miles. I loved him immensely! Imagine being in a time loop for about two months and reliving the same day time and again. I would go crazy and get angry and sad and would scream out loud at times. Miles didn’t. He stayed stoic and only started living again because of Barrett. She made him actually grin again. So I swooned over this story and rooted for the two of them so much!
This story has convinced me. I should read more books by Rachel Lynn Solomon. My over-piling TBR will someday come tumbling down because of all those titles I’m adding and adding and adding, but I’ll definitely pick up one of Rachel’s other titles.
I received an ARC from Simon and Schuster in exchange for an honest review.
Well consider me charmed! This time-loop romance was actually done really well. The Groundhog day repetition seen in a time-loop story can often become boring but was kept to a bare minimum by Rachel. Each repeat of the day was fresh, original and at times hilarious. I found the characters to be totally relatable and was fully invested in a romantic outcome for Barrett and Miles. Adorably fun!
(2.5) i really tried to sway myself into giving this a three stars, although, i was just bored and on the verge of skimming on a general note.
this follows a groundhog day type of plot where the mc’s are stuck in a time loop that prompts them to keep repeating the first day of college. the beginning of this captured my attention and got me out of my three week slump. then the middle almost got me back into the slump but i scathingly escaped! it just started dragging and i began to count how many days there were left ‘till they’d get out of that loop.
as for the characters, i didn’t care that much for barrett *runs to check spelling*. and i tried feeling something for the romance but i was just extremely apathetic. im not sure how to concretely describe why that is, there was just a lack of connection.
my favorite part of this was literally the friendship between barrett and lucie. if the book revolved around them more i feel this would’ve gotten a better rating. they also gave a dynamism to the repetitive days because we’d get to uncover different aspects of lucie through the many day variants.
+1 for the physics nerd boyfriend though. i don’t remember if he wore glasses but +2 if he did.
overall, i really think this is a me thing because so many people rated this high.
2.5 rounded up.
Okay.
A few sincere moments amidst overwrought writing and dramatised elements. Good concept that could have been better developed if the author didn’t satisfy herself with cliches in characterisation, dialogue and plot, and too much on the nose prose.
The time loop aspect was unsatisfactorily under-explored and resolved. The author seemed unsure of her own world-building. Don’t incorporate a feature one isn’t fully capable of wielding well just for convenience.
Also, Barrett, the main character was distinctly unlikable for 85 - 90% of the book. She was whiny, abrasive, judgemental, and self-involved. Experiencing a traumatic situation doesn’t excuse that. She especially judged Miles for quite a while with no real basis for her antipathy besides the American dislike of intellect. The author tried and failed miserably at evoking a Pride and Prejudice enemies-to-lover situation. She forgot, though, to show Miles doing something or saying something appalling and instead just used Barrett’s criticisms in the place of actual character development.
The plot is undeveloped, as well. They’re stuck in time, but more movement (internal and external) would have gone some way to reducing the redundancy. Focus on the sci-fi time aspect would have helped with this.
There’s more I could say, but I’ve already used an Audible credit and time, so…
"Maybe people weren't wrong when they said college was going to be this amazing life changing experience, because I've gotten through nearly 31 first days at this point and every time it felt amazing, I've been with you."
I actually really liked this book ! The concept of the time loop was pretty original, especially in a romance book, which made it feel like a breath of fresh air. The romance was really good and although it didn't have any spice, I don't think it needed any.
"I could wake up on the same day a thousand times, and every single one would be different because of you. Every single one would be life changing. Because of you."
It was still cliché and predictable yet the characters had so much chemistry between them and didn't feel flat at all. (Crazy how the bar is so low that I'm shocked when characters are actually well written lmao)
"Two lonely people with the entire world at our fingertips."
The end almost gave me a heart attack because I thought for a second that it wasn't going to be a happy ending... But it cannot be a romance novel without the two characters living happily ever after right? Right.
I liked the representation in this book not only towards sexuality but also religion, it didn't feel like it was placed in the book to be there for the sake of being inclusive and thus full of clichés and it wasn't massively exaggerated either. It was just there and I really like that the author included it !
"I love you and I promise I'm going to love you tomorrow too."
I had loved "Today, tonight, tomorrow" and had high expectations for this book and it did not disappoint. Also Miles is a great fucking guy wow talk about golden retriever boyfriend, he's the literal definition of a simp and I love that.
"Barrett, we have all the time in the world."
Rachel Lynn Solomon never disappoints! This was such an endearing and entertaining story.
After a difficult high school experience, Barrett Bloom is ready for college to turn her into a brand new person. When her first day goes wrong in almost every way, she wakes up the next morning determined to start fresh. The universe grants her wish when she finds out she’s been transported back in time to start the same day over and over and over again, but she’s not alone in this time loop. Her physics classmate Miles is stuck there with her.
See You Yesterday fills in a gap that I feel has been present in the YA genre for a long time. These characters are at a pivotal time in their lives as they transition from high school to college and I really appreciated how this momentous life event was detailed in this story. I just love this author’s writing. It’s so good and has the perfect mix of humor and emotion.
Barrett’s and Miles’ characterizations felt to genuine and authentic. They came across as real people and I know that many freshmen experience the same feelings and concerns that they did in their early days of college. Their relationship and connection was so sweet. It was a bit of a slow burn and I really enjoyed how the romance played out overall. The character arcs that took place over this many-week (but also one day) period were so good and I loved that the reader can see the characters learning and changing together. This book also has great Jewish and Japanese American rep as well as a plus-size MC!
I was definitely intrigued by the time loop component but also a little nervous going into it because I wasn’t sure how easy it would be to follow along with. Thankfully this really didn’t end up being a factor in my enjoyment of the story. There’s a little physics theory talk but nothing too in depth or difficult to understand.
Something that both of the main characters struggled with was the fear of never being enough for anyone. I think a lot of readers will be able to connect with this sentiment and it was handled with such care in this book.
As always, I can’t wait to read whatever Rachel Lynn Solomon writes next and I can’t wait for everyone else to get to read this one!
Thank you so much to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
Warning: this book will give you intense flashbacks to your freshman dorm, a strong craving for mozzarella sticks (even if you don't like cheese), and a six-pack after laughing your abs into shape. It's Palm Springs meets Today Tonight Tomorrow in the best way.
"Time is helping me recognize who I'm supposed to be, only I'm not sure who that person is yet. Whatever the reason the universe singled us out, Miles and I found each other in this strange echo of a world. And that means something."*
I haven't had such an emotional reading experience of an RLS book since Our Year of Maybe. And holy hell, did I go through the RANGE of emotions.
TW: slut-shaming, panic attacks, fatphobia, bullying, brief mentions of drug addiction, car accident, some light revenge stalking
This one that works best going into not knowing much, but you will come out of this with your knowledge of psychics increased, that's for sure. I loved how much this felt like Today Tonight Tomorrow, but also felt so entirely different from anything else she's written. There is the time travel/magic element that probably is why this one stands out so sharply, but I also love that it's set at college and so visually appealing. This would make the best freaking movie. I say that about every RLS book, but I mean it every time.
In this book we have: the most romantic Shabbat dinner that is not on Shabbat to ever exist, many hours spent in a library, a love interest that is guarded and stiff but also dreamy AF, a cat lady, some road trips, facts about gophers, overcoming sexual trauma, and A CHAOTIC AF MAIN CHARACTER.
Like, when I say chaotic AF, I mean it.
Rep: Asian love interest, Jewish main characters, sapphic side characters, a questioning side character, a fat lead with glasses and unruly hair, panic attacks and anxiety rep, and some trauma.
Also, this book has my favorite last scene of any book maybe ever, incredibly realistic female friendship, a female wanting to work in journalism, many many puns, sex positivity, an accidental fire, and a kiss in the rain.
A pitch-perfect romcom, Rachel is a master of crafting the most beautiful stories that make you somehow laugh, cry, and curse her out at the same time.
*Quotes are from an early copy and may not reflect the final version.
Thank you to Simon Teen for gifting me an arc every single time I slide into your emails. That does not change my opinions, which are always mine and usually strongly-worded.
------
Rachel wrote this book with a broken elbow and watch it still SLAP as if she wrote it without pain medication or an arm sling. Your faves could never.
4.75 ⭐️ rounded up!
Thank you so much to the publisher, Simon & Schuster and to Rachel Lynn Solomon for sending me an ARC copy of See You Yesterday!
I am a big fan of Solomon’s Today Tonight Tomorrow and when I heard of See You Yesterday, I had to have it!!!!
I am truly in awe. I adore this book so much. The concept of the time loop was so fun and fascinating! I loved reading through the days and seeing Barrett and Miles friendship and relationship grow. Everyday was a new September 21st for them and I loved seeing how Miles and Barrett would tackle that day. I truly couldn’t stop laughing at some of the things these two did. There was a few pages were I could not stop dying at what Barrett just did and I cannot wait for people to read this book.
Overall, Barrett was hilarious! I love that girl so much and Miles was just so cute and awkward, I can’t!! Seeing these two form a relationship was the cutest thing ever. These two deserve all the happiness and I love what they found within each other.I’m just so so happy AHH! Rachel Lynn Solomon just knows how to write and capture your heart! And she’ll do it every. single. time!
This was such a fun book! There is no shortage of Groundhog Day retellings, but this was a very enjoyable spin on the classic story. The setting and set up for the story provided many interesting opportunities, and I really like how complex Barrett was as an mc—her struggles felt very real, and the way she saw the world and dealt with her problems was realistic. I think Miles could have been a little more fleshed out, but his character was endearing all the same.
As with many Groundhog Day stories, I did feel like there was a lull about halfway through the book where things began to get just a little repetitive, but the character and relationship development as well as the things Barrett discovered (albeit slowly) kept me intrigued enough to keep going and wait for them to figure out how to break the cycle.
Overall: In terms of pace, this book was on the slower side, but it was well-written, and the characters kept the story grounded. It has also confirmed my firm belief that we need more YA stories set in college (!!)—this one was a real breath of fresh air.
pre-review:
ok but i need this book now, like right now
no, scratch that—i needed this book yesterday (see what i did there? ;D)
Liked Today Tonight Tomorrow , Author's another YA read, more. This was maybe a little juvenile for me.
The novel is nice as I like the Groundhog day-type concept and the first thirty percent of the book is solid.
But, after, it wasn't as strong.
Plus, I've read author's other books and the writing, character-building is usually same in them. Thus, it's getting boring now...
“I mean it. I could wake up on the same day a thousand times, and every single one would be different because of you. Every single one would be life-changing. Because of you.”
