After seven intense years, CJ Sanchez has finally hit the sweet spot in his music career. It’s playing guitar and riding the wave of Project Viper’s fame forever and ever on, baby.

But when a severe case of artist block strikes right as the band starts their sold-out European tour and gears up to produce their next album—

His bandmates don’t need to know about that. Shhh.

Besides, there’s Fiona, the band’s gorgeous assistant. Dragging her on spur-of-the-moment dashes through European capitals and coaxing out her smile is far more fun than dealing with CJ’s issues.

Fiona may be running errands for Project Viper for a living, but as an aspiring comic book artist, she’s all too familiar with the devastation of creative slumps. And although she’s built some solid defenses against CJ, when the unapologetic flirt reveals his crisis to her, half-whispered in the middle of the night… It’s impossible for Fiona to refuse to keep his artist block a secret.

Or to stop falling for CJ’s breath-snatching smiles, playful winks, and inviting banter, all of which make it easy to forget about the possibility of a catastrophic fallout should the band find out the truth.

Too easy.

---

Love reading about volatile musicians? High-octane smiles that weaken even the most flirting-proof hearts? No-nonsense young women catching that one elusive love interest? Then look no further (and prepare to flip through the pages at the speed of light).

unBREAKable is a sweet rockstar romance. Heat level is PG-13 (kissing, mild sensuality).

- thank you booksirens!

after the first book, i was really curious as to how cj’s book would go. this was really fun and entertaining! i loved the banter between fiona & cj. i also really liked how we got an insight into cj’s mental health, but i wish we got more info abt his childhood & estranged family. fiona’s character was great and i felt like i could relate to her a lot! running to the next one!

I was so pumped up for this book and I legit requested a copy as soon as it became available.

This time around it’s about CJ, the inspiration for the band. The premise of the story was intriguing for me and I have to say Arya delivered it very well.

It intercepts around nearly the end of the first book and expends the story from there. You get to see a lot of cities and beautiful cities as the band goes through their European tour.

The catch though, while you saw a how Alexandra blaze her way through in the first book, this time you get to follow the story of Fiona, someone full of surprises and things you didn’t expect.

What CJ and Fiona went through was raw and I understand them both from where they’re coming from.

I don’t blame CJ for hiding and masking it all cause I’ve been in his place and I did the same thing… it’s better to leave the ones you love out of your inner turmoil but at the same time being wistful that they see you’re struggling.

I don’t blame Fiona for being a little harsh and very black & white while giving her thoughts. Not because she’s shallow but because she saw things as it is and there’s always a solution for everything. I’ve been as intolerant as her at times too.

The delivery wasn’t heavy, still light considering the elephant in the room of the two. There’s definitely the slow burn. While Marshall and Alexandra was like a wildfire. These two were simmering underneath, you know trouble will come when they reach a boiling point. But damn the way CJ treats her and all that kisses 🥺🤧✨ I love the softness and subtleties of them all.

But most of all I love what Marshall pulled on CJ to get him out of his head. They really are their own family and it really shows. Their bond is everything. I can’t wait for more Project Viper and to get updates on my OTPs

After reading the first book, I was obsessed with hearing more about CJ!

I was surprised when his novel included his burnout as a major character arc. It made him feel so human to me in a world where Covid burnout is a very real thing for me and many others right now.

I like that he falls for a leading lady who has an artistic side herself, and that she uses that creative spirit to bolster his.

The kissing scenes were fire, but the romance remained the quieter part of this book.

It felt like reading a self-rediscovery book in many ways, and I couldn't be happier with it!

I'm happy to say I was engaged since the beginning.

I usually enjoy reading about musicians (especially if the story also involves romance!) and I like it even more when there's complex, multi-layered characters. In the case of this novel, you don't only find that there's more to CJ that meets the eye, but you are shown right off the bat that Fiona showcases a depth that- for a variety of reasons- sometimes becomes hidden even to herself.

I loved seeing these characters grow as individuals, but also the gentle evolution of their relationship. Overall, a delightful read. Can't wait to discover more from this author!

3.5, rounding up
I read the first two books in this series back to back. It's time for a break but I will eventually come back for the next book in this series when I've got the hankering for this type of book. I think my biggest complaint is that the CJ of this book didn't feel like the CJ of the first book. I guess that was the point, but I missed the first book CJ. He was so droopy and dreary in this book.
I did enjoy the growing romantic tension leading up to the first kiss. It was good. And of course, we see all the characters from the previous book so that is fun. It really helps give a feeling of family and community.

This book was amazing I absolutely loved it. It was so full of commitment and devotion.

This book showed that no matter what life's hurdles you must cross you can reach your goals. This book showed that you should never give up on your goals, you should persevere to get to where you hop to and it showed true growth in the characters. It depicted honest raw life events that people deal with and how to handle then ,that life isn't perfect and we all struggle and implode sometimes.

I loved this book, I will definitely want to reread it.

How did I feel when reading this book? Well, let me show you!

I absolutely loved the romance in this book! There were so many cute moments and you could actually feel both of them falling in love, feeling more and more safe with each other and opening up. I'm not going to lie, I am head over heels in love with CJ. I fell in love with him in the first book of this series - UnREASONable - but this one made me fall hard. He's basically everything I want in a boyfriend: he's considerate, caring, fun, playful, dedicated, hardworking, (I could go on but I'll stop now), just swoon worthy. BUT not only did I absolutely love CJ, I also loved Fiona - I know right, win win! She's a strong 22 year old, with a very strong sense of responsibility. She stood up to CJ and was mindful of boundaries, which as a psychologist I am very much a fan of. I liked the dynamic between the two: the flirting, the (many) little romantic moments, tentatively confiding in each other. It filled my heart with warmth. And that's exactly what I'm looking for when reading a romance book, so contract fulfilled!

Why only 4 stars then, you ask? Well. Even though I really liked the plot, the characters, the amount of romance, etc, there were some minor things I was not happy about. For one, at about page 80 (I think) I started getting frustrated with how much attention both of their insecurities were getting, which made it very repetitive after a while. After (and during) every cute moment there were so many insecurities, doubts and denials that kept going back and forth… I mean, I get it. I'm a psychologist. I know what insecurities can do, how intrusive those thoughts can be. But it was taking a little bit of the joy away and I did not like that. It was the same thing that bothered me in the first book.

Second, the accountability and repair after the big fights. Again, same as in the first book, I felt like CJ could've taken the repair a bit more in his own hands; could've been proactive about it. He's quite lucky the people involved were so forgiving. Because, again, I felt that Fiona (same as Alexandra in UnREASONable) was too quick to let it go, to make excuses and say it was okay. But I've got to say, these are minor frustrations, because I was glad that there actually were conversations and repairing actions made.

Which brings me to the last but very important point - depression / burn out. Representation matters. I was actually glad that this was such a major theme in the book. I was listening to Linkin Park while reading this and I felt like some of their songs matched what CJ was feeling, and we all know what the major theme in Linkin Park songs is. The shame, the hurt, the hopelessness, the doubts, the insecurities about the self but also the others and the future, the lack of feeling joy when doing things you love, the insomnia… It all matched. And I was very grateful. Until /that/ moment with Fiona. I don't want to spoil, but I've got to say something about it because it rubbed me the wrong way. I feel like what Fiona said to CJ (which was very harsh btw, but understandable since she was being triggered herself) and what happened at the concert, was written in a way that made it seem that CJ "snapped out of it". And while there can be lightbulb moments like that, that doesn't mean the symptoms of depression just magically go away, especially when there's also a lot of trauma underlying it. So it made me happy to read that he wanted to go to therapy and also put his money where his mouth is. But as a mental health advocate, I would've liked those last pages to be a little bit more explicit about how depression is not about being ungrateful and how it doesn't go away after a lightbulb moment.

But like I said, these 3 things did rub me the wrong way a bit, but the romance in this book was just soooooo good it kept me entertained whilst feeling a reading slump creeping in. That says enough, doesn't it? So, a well deserved 4 stars from me!

Project Viper continues to increase their popularity. Their music is at the top of the charts and their tours are ever so popular.

CJ is the founder of the band. He has a sunny personality, but beneath it all a storm is brewing.

Fiona is the assistant manager of the band. Although friendly, she makes sure that they follow all the rules.

She has a tendre for CJ, but his reputation with the ladies doesn't do him any favour. She notices that not all is well with him and upon questioning, he opens up to her. Something that he hasn't done with anyone else. She tries to give him advice, and in the process they become good friends. He is drawn to Fiona, but he doesn't want a relationship. He is quite happy with the attention of the ladies and enjoys having his flings. When things come to a head, there is an explosion and they are quite hurtful to each other. Will they get over their misunderstandings?

When emotions run high, CJ becomes irrational, but after learning about his background, everything becomes clear. Fiona is reasonable enough to realise that she too is partly at fault. I like the way Marshall and the other bandbates make him realise how important he is to them. It's a true sign of loyalty and friendship. Although repetitive in places, it's a sweet and fun read with a good amount of angst. Good second installment.

I received an eARC from BookSirens and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

I’m really mad at myself for not writing the review as soon as I finished the book. Ughhhh. But yeah… I often write the reviews on the week-end and between the time I finished this book and actually sat down to write the review, I’ve read 3 other books which makes my poor memory and brain all lost!

CJ Sanchez is finally where he wants to be, playing guitar and on top of fame with his band Project Viper. So why does he feel so lost and even gets artist’s block as the band starts their sold-out tour in Europe and prepare their next album?
Fiona has been the band’s assistant for a time already and she knows better than to fall for CJ’s breathtaking smile. As she struggles, dealing with her dream of becoming a comic book artist being crushed over and over again, she discovers CJ also has his own struggles right now. Maybe if they can open to each other they might end up helping each other? But nothing is ever that easy.

I’ve loved CJ since the first book. (Ok it’s not that long ago since it’s book two but you get what I mean.) He’s so charismatic and was such a good help to Alexandra in book one, how to not love him right? It was nice to get to know him on a deeper level. He has a lot going on and there is definitely more about him than only good looks. I think it was a great story of growth and I always enjoy seeing true people with their doubts and incertitude cause aren’t we all like this? Also, the fact that he finally gets the help he needs makes me so proud! There is nothing wrong in needing help, if we were honest, I think we all need it.

(actual footage of me trying to figure out how to get my shit together by myslelf)

There was a great romantic tension all throughout the book. I always enjoy seeing more of the band in every book and it was nice being on tour with them since it was a different vibe. Overall a touching story that shows that life is far from being perfect all the time and it’s ok, we eventually get through it and get to better days. I’m always here for a book showing that found family and friends are there to support each other no matter what.

I very much enjoyed the first volume in the Reluctant Heartbreakers and Sweet Troublemakers series, unREASONable, and have been looking forward to more adventures with the members of Project Viper. This episode focuses on CJ, the bass player returning back to guitar and primary songwriter, and Fiona, a manager's assistant for the band.

Fiona is given an opportunity to travel along with the Vipers on their European tour to expand her skillset. This means leaving responsibilities back home, but she knows this is an opportunity not to be missed. This also means more time around CJ, an incessant flirt and thorn in her side. CJ isn't a bad guy, just not the type of guy she's looking for. Her focus is on her job and her calling, though both aren't the same. CJ has his own issues he brings into the tour. The move he thought would make the band run more smoothly is affecting him more than he expected, to the point where he's having trouble continuing to create and contribute as he used to.

Of course, nothing happens as planned and as the two spend more time together, they each find out the other isn't quite how they thought. All in all, it was an enjoyable tour of Europe, full of highs and lows, triumphs and disappointments, with a well deserved happy ending.

Now to see which Viper is next in Cupid's line of sight!

This book really touched me, and I had a hard time putting it down! It’s a sweet rockstar romance, and I was completely invested in what was going on with the characters.

CJ plays guitar for Project Viper, but he is also the guy who formed the group and who writes a lot of their songs. He struggles with burnout throughout the book, and I thought it was handled really well. Fiona is the manager’s assistant for the band, and she is also an artist. I loved how she was constantly drawing what she saw around her! She has a comic book out on submission for publication, and the stress of rejections and waiting for it to happen were also well written. I thought both characters were relatable, and they both really touched me while I was reading about them.

A majority of this book takes place in Europe on the band’s European tour, which was a lot of fun! I liked seeing the different locations while they traveled!

I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series! I like how each book is about a different member of the band. Friend groups are always my favorites to read about, and since this series is also a found family series, it adds so much to the story!

4.5/5 stars!

Another great book about this band! The ups and downs of the music business and finding love through it all. Do not need to read the first one, but this takes place right after and you'll want to fall in love with the characters, so I recommend reading the first book too. I’m totally with the band!

I received an advance review copy from Book Sirens, and I am leaving this honest review voluntarily.

This book is about CJ. This book starts out with the chaos, feelings, and full-body possession of a rock show. Project Viper has made it to the top of the charts for two years and living the dream with their bandmates. This band has some unique camaraderie, the proof of how they spend their time with each other. This book does jump between points of view, mainly on CJ's thoughts but sometimes from Fiona's perspective.

Fiona is the manager assistant for the Project Viper band. She has an easy raport with the band and especially CJ. She is also an artist. Fiona gets offered to go on the summer tour with the band leaving behind responsibility and her own dreams to progress her career.

CJ seems to be undergoing a creative crisis in this book and on tour, sucking the energy right out of him and leaving behind a numb, depressed shell of himself. The story unravels bit by bit, piece by piece that gives the reader plenty of time to understand the confusing emotions and complicated relationship between CJ and Fiona. The tour is riddled with issues and doubt; however, they do pull through. We do see a different side of CJ in this book. He is much darker in personality, but he still shows how much he cares for his band and friends.

This book is a journey for both CJ and Fiona's very slow-burn romance. They both discover unknown parts of themselves and fear rejection. CJ is hitting bottom on tour and eventually causing so many issues. He does get a wake-up call from his band, and after things do start to turn around. Fiona gets fired and must run home only to reevaluate her own fears and issues. She does come back, and thank goodness CJ has a change of heart. They really are a sweet couple that compliment each other well, both being artists and hard workers. They both have to learn it is okay to need someone else a little.

This book is a fantastic story of what happens when a rock star burns out from doing it all by themself or at least feeling like it. When they mentally can't handle the stress of life and their own publicity. I love how the author incorporated everything into a clean, non-steamy rockstar romance. Seriously the hottest moments in this book are intense kissing scenes. The story is about each of them and not very romantic, to be honest. Still, it includes just enough to keep you interested in the relationship. This story isn't overly emotional like the first book, but it still contains an amazing moral and romance.

UnBREAKable is another great sweet romance read. I enjoyed getting into CJ and Fiona's heads. I liked CJ from UnREASONable, but I like that we got his story next. He's much more complex than made to be in the first book. And very relatable. I really liked that chapter 1 was from CJ's POV of Project Vipers' first gig with Alexandra. Again another great blend with the big cast. Another highly recommended read. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

if you liked Times Like These by Julia Wolf then you should read this

(I received an ARC for this book)

This is my tribe, and as long as I have them, I don’t need anything else. Not the three suitcases of expensive clothes, not the fancy guitars, not the fans even. As long as I have them and music, it’s enough.

My biggest issue with this book is that I read it directly after reading another rockstar book that I fell head over heels in love with. It was impossible for my brain not to compare the two. But there’s pieces of this one that do stand out amongst others like it. The playlist is a huge bonus, and the perfection that is the chapter titles. I could be WAY off, but I kept getting the sense that this was written as a fanfiction first? Or maybe based on something of the sort. Fiona and CJ aren’t strangers. In fact, they’ve been navigating life side by side for two years as client and managing assistant. There’s no bad blood between them. But there’s definitely plenty of respect between them. Fiona is actually an aspiring artist, attempting to get her comics published. CJ loses his footing in the band he loves being a part of with his best friends. So when Fiona goes on tour with them, their unusual time together gives them every opportunity to grow closer. But demons are an ugly thing in close quarters like that. They’re both pushed to their limits, until the time comes for the tension to snap. And it’s not pretty. Secrets and fears are thrown out into the open, and it threatens everything to come crashing down. Everything was so sweet, calm, but interesting. But NOW you’ve got my attention! I’ve loved seeing CJ pine, I was so excited to watch him grovel! But there is such a special bond between the band members, and Fiona. And while it’s tested, it’s much too strong to destroy. While Fiona and CJ are the main focus, there’s also a huge focus on the friendships. It’s so special, and you truly feel a part of it. CJ finds his words. His unashamed words and emotions, and it’s beautiful.

My Favorite Quotes:
• “I dare you. Prove me wrong.”
• “I would do anything with you.” “Anything?” “Everything.”
• “Oh, for crying out loud, Fiona! Enough of the back and forth.”
• “You call that a kiss?”
• “Why didn’t we do this sooner?”
• “I don’t want to walk the easy road with you. I want to walk the best one.”
• “Are you really in love? Like, seriously in love? Heart stopping, breath catching, hands shaking when you’re apart, kind of love?”
• “I think I’m even in love with you.”

4/10 Dirty Birdy
7/10 Forced Proximity
7/10 Slow Burn
7/10 Workplace Romance

So this is the second book circling around a member of the Vipers. I read the first book already and was curious about CJ's story (and therefore quite happy as it was offered to me as a free for review book by BookSirens).

I liked both main characters though as in the first book their flaws were kinda owerdrawn. I get that your a player and never had feelings before CJ don't tell me that on every page...

All the band side characters otherwise are delightfull and somehow easier to like... except Mashall and Alexandra kept getting on my nerves for not seeing what was happening before there eyes and seeing how CJ was struggling.

Generally this book was cute the sparks were flying the feels kinda missing and the laughter too...

Main Characters: Mostly clear Backgroundstory, Sometimes illocical Actions
Side Charactes: Funny, Adorable, not deep
Writing Style: Ok
Content: Clean, just kissing
Violence: Non
Would recommend: Maybe

Fiona Knight, band manager’s assistant for Project Viper, is going with the band on their European tour. She loves CJ Sanchez, bassist turned guitarist, but has always hidden her feelings. She thinks CJ is a player and he admits he doesn’t believe in love. Fiona is an artist who has written a comic book she is trying to get published. CJ is experiencing writer’s block when trying to come up with new songs for their next album. Fiona tries to help CJ and they become closer. I enjoyed reading about the band again. I loved Fiona. She’s a strong woman. I was rooting for them to get together and for CJ to figure out his issues. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

Arya Matthews has done it again! I’m in love with this series. CJ really is a tortured soul and is having are hard time finding what’s missing. Fiona is there to make sure no one stresses the talent and to learn more of the industry while also trying to figure out a personal issue. They bond but they they both hold back and things get tense and then they get even worse. Tensions are high, emotions are off the charts and somewhere along the way some people figure out what is really important.

Great book

Enjoyed the plot and characters. I deal with depression and its not an easy fix. Tough love doesn't work with depression and what those guys pulled on stage at the end would drive a person suffering the way he was off the deep end and left. I liked the simple story but the girl's on again off again thoughts drove me nuts. Your stories have been original and not sex orgies page after page. Nice plots.

Different

This is a different view into a creative mind. It is a window into a person who is having an emotional low and doesn't understand it or how to dig out. It is also a book about friendship and solidarity in the face of someone having a hard time.

Let me just say, this was the perfect follow up to unREASONable. After falling in love with every one of the characters in the first book, I was really looking forward to this story and finding out more about CJ. The story picks up from Alexandra's first live performance with the guys, which was one of my favourite scenes from the first book, and it was so satisfying reading this from CJ's perspective. His passion for music really shines through, and the live performance description had my blood pumping right along with him.
We then meet poised, professional, closet artist Fiona, who was a wonderful surprise. I liked Fiona in the first book, but reading from her perspective takes this to another level. Strong, ambitious, and incredibly talented, she's the perfect match for CJ.
Watching (reading) about an honest scoundrel falling in love will always take the cake for me, but there was way more to this story than the boy who doesn't love learning to love. A great read, highly recommend!
