Every time we found our gazes locked like this, I swore the earth fell out from beneath my feet. I wanted to fall. I wanted to dive in headfirst and never come up for air. I just wanted him.

5 stars!!

Holy crap y'all, I was not expecting to love this story as much as I did! If you know me as a reader, then you know how much I love angsty drama in books and this story by Cassie has the perfect amount of delicious angst and unrequited longing. Brax and Kali have known each other since Brax's father took them in under the protection of their clan. Their relationship slowly morphed from innocent friendship into something more until one night when Kali's brother is killed and Brax abandons her and his pack.

Two years later, Kali gets a message changing her views about that fateful night and she seeks out Brax--her first love and her first heartbreak--to help her decipher what it means. Too bad Brax wants nothing to do with her even though he's her fated mate and she can't stop yearning for him. I loved the story of redemption and forgiveness that unfolds between Brax and Kali as they slowly allow themselves to acknowledge their past. There is a lot of hurt and guilt between them, but the love between fated mates is hard to deny. I cannot wait for more from Cassie and this amazing series! ♡

They say I shouldn’t say this in a review, but I am. I loved it! From the beginning I was sucked into the story. Cassie’s writing puts you right in Cedar Valley watching Kali and Brax come to terms with all that has happened between them and the presence now threatening the pack. It was romantic, suspenseful, scary, loving, supportive and steamy! It’s a great story and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

I received an ARC for my voluntary and honest review. Thank you!

I absolutely love that the Small Town Packs series gives us little snippets of different packs with each book! Some of the characters from this book are familiar to us from Salvation. For the most part though this is a whole new crew that we are introduced to. I loved them just as much as I loved everyone in Salvation too!

Reclaim is a second chance, shifter and suspense romance all wrapped up in to one! Brax Archer is a bear shifter who fled his pack and duties. But, as we all know, the past never stays buried for long. Brax's past is centered around the wildly irresistible Kali, his best friend's little sister and fated mate. With the stipulation that their reunion is only temporary Brax reluctantly agrees to help her solve a murder mystery and return to his home town.

This book gave me all the feels. Brax blames himself for things beyond his control and has the familiar "she deserves better than me" stance when it comes to Kali. Kali is hurt by his past actions but is also incredibly mature about it at the same time. She is willing to internalize all of that abandonment and sorrow in order to get the only thing she can from Brax, his help solving the murder of her older brother. The angst in this story, combined with the murder mystery aspect, kept me on the edge of my seat!

Rating - 5/5
Steam - 4/5
POV - 1st Person Dual
Tropes - Second chance romance, shifter romance, fated mates, suspense, slow burn
Bonus Items - Epilogue set one week in the future

Fated Mates✅
Best Friends Little Sister✅
Second Chance✅

Plot 4.75⭐
Spice 3🔥

Running from your problems is never the answer but when you fail as badly as Brax did you have no other choice. He's the alpha it's his job to protect his pack and letting not just a member, but his best friend, die wasn't part of his job. His pack is better off without him there. All because he got caught up in the pretty eyes of the one girl he shouldn't have, Kali, his best friend's little sister.

When her brother died Kali was heartbroken, but she could survive because she still had Brax. Then he left shattering her heart so bad it will never be fixable. For two years she has tried to move on and heal, but now she has to search for the one man she doesn't think she will survive seeing again.

Why? The text she received said that her brother's death wasn't an accident. No according to the words on her phone, it was murder, and she needs Brax to help her solve it. Then he can run away again.

Holy crab cake can Cassie write scenes with so much heartbreak, angst, and tension that you personally feel it. Like the first book in this series, I adored the characters very much. Brax's guilt is so suffocating at moments that I had to stop reading to catch my breath. I felt so bad for him and had to constantly remind myself he wasn't real, and I couldn't find him to tell him how he did nothing wrong. My girl Kali stole the show with her demanding that she not be left out of anything because she was a woman, can we say Girl Power?
I was sadly left confused about what the heck is going on with the hunters and I was hoping that it would be clearer by the end of the book. I have hopes that book three clarifies everything for me.

The Small Town Packs series is back with another fiery instalment.
This time we meet up with some bears, including the gorgeous growly supposed-to-be alpha Brax Archer. But he left all that behind and was hiding out in Timber Falls with someone else's pack. And here starts the first little mystery.
After a text indicating that her brothers death was no accident, Kali bravely seeks out the assistance of moody Brax.
With a blood thirsty killer targeting the pack she must convince the alpha that abandoned them to return. But he's not just the rightful alpha of the Cedar Valley Bears, he's also the man who broke her heart.
A little bit of mystery, a lot of tension, and a whole bagful of feels. This book delivers it all.
The bruised heart feeling just jumps off the page. The agony of not feeling like she was "one of them" was strong.
The pack seems small with just the family unit involved and the assistance of neighbouring wolf pack but perhaps there will be more characters to introduce us to soon. I love the protective brothers and I'm sure they need their own mate stories told one day.
This is a great friends to lovers story with a fated mates connection. Brax is seriously in need of communication skills and i wanted to yell at him more than once, but he totally makes up for it towards the end. It's sad and sweet and a thankfully has a happy conclusion. Love the river scene. Definitely worth a read for fans of paranormal romance.

This book begins uniquely with Kali confronting her past for answers and getting help with the latest surprise text she received. This is a little mystery as to who it is and why. However, you get pretty sidetracked by the angsty, swoony bear shifters and the brothers' best friend-to-lovers romance between Brax and Kali. The author brings you back to why the story began, and things get action-packed. Kali is a fantastic heroine, strong, stubborn and loving. Brax needs to stop with the self-blame, but he finally makes an intelligent choice after many bad ones. I like how this book ends; it was a great paranormal romance.

Kali has a nasty history with Brax Archer, the bear shifter and alpha of them and the guy who broke her heart. They have some insane and damaging history, but she seems to put that aside to figure out what happened to her brother. Still, she knows she must suck it up for her safety and to get answers.

I like we get Brax pov as well. Brax is all sorts of angsty . Their past has some heartbreak, mystery, and family ties that could wreck their world. But this couple succumbs to their desires, and this gets steamy. I like how swoony he can be, but his communication skills stink as well as the self-blame. I love Kali; she is a feisty, stubborn, and hard-headed woman. I love the fated mates in this story and even between when it turns swoony. I even love that he finally gets his head on straight, and the epilogue of this book is a perfect ending to this angsty story.

Swoon worthy shifters

Who doesn’t like a swoon worthy, possessive, fated mates read. Add a bear shifter, suspense and second chances, Ms. Laelyn’s Small Town Packs are short and sweet novellas.

“A familiar sense of calm washed through my blood, a feeling I only ever experienced around her. My bear reacted the same.”

Loved Brax and his bear. Very reminiscent of the Peltier bears, his family is close knit. Very much devoted to each other and their community. Typical young alpha, learning as he goes, making mistakes. Kali’s fated mate, if he ever acknowledged it.

“Just because you left it doesn’t mean everyone here magically stopped hurting. We didn’t. I didn’t.”

Brax’ departure and self exile left them all unsettled. Life in limbo, leaving Kali with his brothers to mourn alone.

Nothing like suspense and drama to bring them all back together. Loved watching the pack community support one another. 4.5 ⭐️

Ok so I am actually a bit disappointed, because all of the other reviews really praised this book. I loved the idea of the "bear shifters" and other types of shifters, but that was about it.

Little warning (spoilers) : the two MCs were already in love, they basically broke up (he left) and then comes back and the feelings spark up again. HOWEVER, there is no tension building up. It was just like: ok bye I left, and hello here I am again, take me back.

Also, the writing is kinda odd. Very rushed. Which leaves certain scenes just kinda... basic? Mediocre? Not sure how to describe it. Example: he is laying on the bed with her, next thing you know he is pacing around the room. I just don't like it when it's skipped from one position to the next without anything in between. It made it look like an "Episode" scene lol.

Just not my cup of tea 🤷‍♀️ maybe you will like it. I DNFd after chapter 4.

I loved this 2nd chance love story between Brax and Kali. After his father died and he became the alpha of his clan, he finally told Kaliof his feelings for her but that same night her brother, Zac, and his best friend was killed. He couldn’t live with his guilt and left. Left his home, left her and smashed her heart to pieces. Now 2 yrs later she receives a text stating her brother was murdered and wants answers and help in finding his killer so she goes and finds Brax. He’s not happy to see her and wants to send her home. He also received the same text. A very good storyline with angst, danger, suspense, emotion and passion. The characters are relatable and believable. I loved it!

Kali and Brax grew up around each other and know they are fated mates, but he left the position of alpha after the night her brother and best friend died. Now two years later, both Brax and Kali receive text messages that state the brother was murdered by a shifter hunter. Needing answers, Kali hunts down Brax and asks for his help in finding the truth.
The characters are terrific, with great backstories and intense feelings. The storyline had plenty of drama, danger, surprises, misconceptions and reconnecting of a romance he fights. Loved them working together to find the truth and in bringing him back to the group. Great ending.

Brax left Cedar Valley when he failed as an Alpha and he has no intention of going back. But a mysterious text message about the death of a pack member sends Kali after him and he can't refuse to help her - he can't refuse her. Kali has had her heart broken by Brax before. He might be able to save her life, but can he do it without breaking her heart all over again?

I really enjoyed this novella and quickly became attached to Kali and Brax. Sometimes novellas can lack important details, but this one didn't - it had all the action, sparks and sizzling angst that you can expect to find in a shifter romance. I'll admit that I like how the length meant that there wasn't time for too much drama. A great short read.

I really like Cassie Laelyn, although this is only the second book of hers I read. I love the angst and I like the kind of angst it is. There is a fine line. I didn’t love Brax only because his head was shoved so far up his ass I’m shocked he could breath. But he finally got there after a while, I just wished he did more groveling not because it’s he REALLY needed to, I just think I’d like it more if he validated kali’s feelings and hurt more. He really only saw his own hurt when Kali lost her BROTHER the last of her blood family and then he left when he literally did nothing wrong. All in all, Brax was emotionally selfish, but I did really like him still 4/5. I think I’m being a bit harsh on him but my goodness get your head out of the gutter man.

Second Chance to Make It All Right . . .

Kali Preston finds out that her brother’s death was not an accident. She knows she is going to need help. She seeks out Brax Archer, a bear shifter she loved who ran away from his pack, his Cedar Valley Bears Alpha duties, and his mate, though he never told her she was.

Brax insisted that their reunion is only for this situation, temporary, and when they find the murderer, he will be leaving again. But can he really leave her a second time? She is his mate and already had her heart broken the first time. Will he tell her the truth? Will he learn to communicate! Grab your copy and see what Fate has in store for them.

Kali and Brax had been best friends as children, but Brax had pulled back, when he blamed himself for her brother's death, running away from his duty as alpha to his clan.
When Kali receives a text that her brother's death was due to a shifter-hunter, she wants to find out if this is true, and asks Brax to help her.
Together, they try to find out what happened then and to protect their and other packs from hunters.
A nice story, a little suspense, a little romance and all in all a good story of a second chance, well-written and entertaining.

I am loving the Small Town Packs series by Cassie Laelyn! Each book focuses on a different shifter and pack. Reclaim is a second chance romance that tells the story of Brax Archer, an alpha bear shifter who has run away from his family/responsibilities, and Kali,a stubborn/fiercely loyal woman who is trying to find out who murdered her brother. Brax and Kali’s story is not an easy one and even though this book is relatively short, Cassie was still able to pack plenty of angst and intrigue into their story! I really liked the murder mystery aspect of this story and I ended up reading this book in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down!

I always have a weakness for shifters, especially Bear shifters. Probably because you can't cuddle a real Grizzly... But they look so cuddly.

So we take the next best thing. A big ass dude, and in this case a big ass, stubborn, tattooed dude, and cuddle him instead.

This was my first book by Cassie, and it definitely won't be my last. This was everything I need in a shifter book. Angst, second chance, fated mates, plot and smut. Would've liked this even more if we had some more spicy scenes, but the plot definitely made up for that.

I'm so happy Brax and Kali got their happily ever after. It was hard fought to the max, but they made it.

First book I have read by Cassie Laelyn and it is well worth reading, great characters and suspense filled story. It is a stand-alone in the Small Town Packs Series about Kali & Brax. Right from the start I could not put it down. Both Kali and Brax received a message about her brother’s death be murder. Kali knew that Brax was the only one who could help her in finding out what happened. I have enjoyed reading this book and reading about the characters, looking forward to reading more from this author.

This is a Cedar Valley Bears love story for Kali Preston and Brax Archer. This book may have a father that is crazy and a mate running from his past but Kali is one determined woman shifter and she will drag her running mate into the fire with her and Brax can ether run from her again or help. It is a good thing they have each other and even when they are hurting each other by accident they still love one another. I loved this sweet mating.

Sad, emotional scary , fun and romantic A big bumbling alpha bear , a small human who regrets not being able to shift like her brother, an evil hunter of the worse possible kind and so many regrets that it is a wonder they can move let alone move on ... bring your box of tissues with you when you settle down to read this one

Great Book

Yet another great read. You never cease to amaze me. I love that Kali was headstrong and didn’t take crap off any of the guys. Brax he was all bark and no bite when it came to Kali and she knew it. No matter how growly he got with her, she just went toe to toe with him. She literally faced down a bear.
Love their story and what it took for them to come together and him finally accept that she was his mate. Can’t wait to read about the other two Archer brothers meeting their mates.

I am absolutely obsessed with this series and the characters. I was rooting for Brax and Kali from the very start. The two of them just needed to stop being knuckleheads and see what was right in front of them. I loved the 50/50 chance of being a shifter or witch because it was really interesting. Also the whole shifter hunter aspect is really unique in my opinion especially with the way someone becomes one. I absolutely loved the way that this book and I hope Brax’s brothers get their own books. I can’t wait to see what comes next.

But within days their bond is stronger then it ever has been and they will have to fight for their love and their lives from someone who should protect them not want them dead. Reclaim is a wonderful story about second chances. Brax and Kali have some pretty big hurdles to overcome. Their journey to be back in each other's arms will sweep you away. It's emotional, passionate, and full of tension. I couldn't find a good stopping point, so I read the book from cover to cover! I kept telling myself, one more page..lol. The author is so darn good at building a unique world and developing characters we can't help but fall for. Can't wait for the next story.

A second chance romance with a twist. This time around we delve into the bear shifter clan. Brax and Kali are determined to discover what really happened the night their lives were derailed. There's plenty of suspense, a sexy sweet romance, and the perfect doses of angst and tension. Fast paced and engaging, this one will suck you in from the first page. I loved these characters and really want more Rhett. Another great read by this author!

A Great Read. This is the second book in the Small Town Pack Series. The main characters are Brax & Kali and their second chance at love. OMG…What an emotional rollercoaster!!! I suggest to put some time aside, because once you start to read, you will not want to put the book down. Cassie Lealyn is one of the newer Authors I have started to read and so far, she has not disappointed. Highly Recommend this series.

Another action packed sexy read in the Small Town Packs series. I enjoyed this a lot, Brax and Kali made a great couple, well they did as soon as they learned to communicate properly and Brax learnt to forgive himself for something that wasn't his fault. This was a short read, but there was plenty in it to satisfy, romance, action, suspense and danger, a good sequel, I'm looking forward to the next book.

Kali needs help to find who killed her brother. She seeks out the only person/bear who can help her Brax. They had a thing until he ran off. There is action, intrigue, drama, and danger around every corner. Will this adventure bring them back together or drive them further apart? Once you start this book you will not be able to put it down until you are done reading it.
