Love the Way You Lie (House of Crows #4)
by Lisa Unger, James Anderson Foster (Narrator), Susannah Jones (Narrator), Frankie Corzo (Narrator), Saskia Maarleveld (Narrator), Johnathan Davis (Narrator), Adam Verner (Narrator)

And now things and people all come together. What each of the four friends ran from has never let them go. I thought I had things figured out and I did, a little bit. But then, reflecting on all four stories in this series, I realize I want to know so much more. These four stories make up a very entertaining book that both gave me answers and left me with questions.

Exciting conclusion to the four-book short story serial “House of Crows”. I liked how all the characters from the previous books were assembled towards the end, and the secrets of the past were revealed. This whole series was really good, with terrific atmosphere, interesting characters, and a captivating storyline. These stories should be read in order since the story keeps continuing.

A very enjoyable series.

Not the worst, but still an unsatisfying ending to the 4 book short story in House of Crows series.

3 stars for the overall rating for all 4 books. As for "Love the Way You Lie" itself it's probably closer to 2 stars. The mini-series started off with a very spooky tone along with the creepy mansion and hidden secrets but it was not what I thought it to be.

Last in the series, it was a decent ending.

I didn't love this book as much as I did some of the other ones in this series, but it was a decent ending.

I feel like the conclusion could have been a little better and parts of this story fell a little flat for me. I found some of of the passages to be lacking in believability or a smooth reading flow which is why I deducted a star.

Overall I liked the series but it wasn't jaw dropping. I appreciated the one sit reads as they were about an hour of reading each. Great for when you're short on time but still feel good about finish a book!

The final chapter felt a bit rushed. The four childhood friends are reunited at Merle House, but Claire and Ian serve no purpose. The resolution is all tell and no show. The book attempts to wrap everything up, but there are still quite a few loose ends in my opinion.

Overall, I liked the book, but I think attempting to break it down into four shorter installments hurt it in the end. The final chapter could have used another 30 or 40 pages to help flesh everything out. I feel like there was definitely a page limit to stop it from going into another installment or keeping any installment from going too long.

I'd give the entire series/book an overall 3 star rating. I liked it, but it could have been better.

People see what they want to see...

Merle House is a crazy fairy-tale mansion with a mind of its own. It has its ways of luring, seducing and enveloping. They say it is haunted. They say bad things have happened on its land and the land remembers the pain.
A young girl disappeared from a small town twenty years ago. They say the Dark Man took her.
But maybe there are no such things as ghosts or bogeymen. Maybe there are just bad people looking for a reason to do bad things.

Great ending to a series.

The reasoning behind my marking 3 stars rather than 4 is, for me, the author wrote the history behind this actual thrilling story, in a way that confused me in the respects of characters and events causing it to be hard to follow. Book 4 however was beautifully written to make it all come together and make it worth the read.

This is the final book in this series. Four adults whom are all hiding secrets are forced to face what happened when they were teenagers. I felt like this was a good series with interesting characters. The ending had a surprising twist!

Loosely inspired by Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House, HOUSE OF CROWS is about four adult friends who all share a common dark, unexplained event in their past. They’ve moved on and away from the town where they grew up. But in many ways the experience has formed each of them. Each has chosen a career that has allowed him or her to explore in various ways things that can’t be explained. Now a psychiatrist, a ghost hunter, a spiritual counselor, and a writer respectively, Claire, Ian, Mason, and Matthew are being called back to pay debts and address some unfinished business. What they find when they arrive at Merle House will depend very much on what they bring.

Hope you love it!

P.S. Of course I gave it 5 stars! I wrote it!! ;)

The Answer
Review of the Amazon Original Kindle eBook (May 2021)

This 4th episode concludes the creepy serial thriller of House of Crows, which features a haunting/possession theme that involves four adults who were summer friends in their teenage youth. In Love the Way You Lie Matthew, Mason, Ian and Clair are all back at Merle House and a final confrontation and solution is provoked when Matthew's daughter Jewel goes missing. The answer is more along the lines of the physical world though and the supernatural element of the plot is mostly abandoned. Overall this was still an effective thriller.

Love the Way You Lie is the 4th of the 4 novellas making up the serialized supernatural fiction novel House of Crows, released simultaneously on May 27, 2021 as an eBook by Amazon Original and as an audiobook by Audible Original.

The entire short story collection was great. I don’t know why this wasn’t just published as an Amazon original story, but maybe because it would have been too long. I liked the characters and the question of whether the Dark Man was real or not.

The ending of the book though leaves a question of whether time can heal things or not. I did have to say that the character of Samantha left me with some questions though.

Review for story 4: I have to say that I liked the way the book ended. You get reveals. I liked the whole what is real and not real. What can cause a house to go "bad"? Can you change something if you nurture it?

This is a nice ending to the 4-part novella series, with the main characters coming together at the place where the darkness, secrets, and mystery started, the Merle House. I admit I enjoyed the first three book more, but this was still a very well written last chapter to end the story. The narrators of the audiobook were 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻.

LOVE THE WAY YOU LIE is part of House of Crows, book 4 in a four-part novella/short story serial by Lisa Unger. This serial is about friends with a shared history of darkness. They’ve spent their lives running, but they can no longer hide from the past. Each story can be read or listened to in a single haunted sitting. All four books in the series need to be read in order.

The House of Crows Series Includes:

All My Darkest Impulses (Book1)
Fog Descending (Book2)
Circling The Drain (Book3)
Love The Way You Lie (Book4)

The House of Crows Series appears to be one long story broken down into four parts. In this fourth part we see all four damaged people are drawn back to the haunted house, where memories were created and lies were told. Matthew, Claire, and Mason haven't been back to Merle House since the summer they were sixteen. They tried for years to put their history behind them, to forget the mystery of the girl who vanished so long ago. But a powerful force from their past is still at play. This time there is no hiding from the truth!

Once again this is another well-written short story only 76 pages but packed a punch. Creepy with engaging characters and lots of twists and turns, a satisfying conclusion with a shocking ending. I really enjoyed this four-part serial.

This was a great set of short stories to read!

(3.5 stars). I absolutely loved this House of Crows anthology by Lisa Unger, which consisted of four short stories. I have to admit that I did like the first three books better as I didn’t get proper closure to something that Mason was accused of during the present day scenarios. All in all, this is a fantastic anthology and I highly recommend reading this!

Now I know how it all comes together. Something each of these four friends ran from they could never escape. This is the final book in this series of 4 and was very entertaining. Lisa Unger has become a favorite in this last year. I like her writing style and the twist she adds. Great series to pick up if you have KU. An audiobook is included. I enjoyed both sometimes switching back and forth. Mystery, and thriller with a side of paranormal is always a winner for me.

Love The Way You Lie is part of House of Crows, a four-part serial about friends with a shared history of darkness. They’ve spent their lives running, but they can no longer hide from the past. Each story can be read or listened to in a single haunted sitting.

Four people have been drawn back to Merle House. These four teenagers spent a rather troubling summer when they were sixteen. All four have been changed in some way by those events.

Lies have been told ... secrets kept hidden. It's time to pay the piper.

This concludes this series of 4 short stories. The reader absolutely must read in order ... there are references to the other stories within each. The characters have been deftly drawn ... especially those early years when children are innocent and believe in things most adults to not. There's so much revealed in these pages .... some twists and turns ... that lead to a surprising conclusion.

I rated each of the individual stories a 4 ... but the series gets a 5. It held my attention throughout.

The Final Chapter in an Intense Creepy Short Story Series!

“Love the Way You Lie” is the final chapter in this intensely creepy short story series. Lisa Unger knows how to write addictive novels with traces of the paranormal! This short story series from Amazon is everything I expect from her writing.

↳ summary: disgraced professor matthew merle inherits his grandfather's crumbling mansion. little do his family know that this house, as well as the woods around it, has a dark past. and when you may think you know someone, the truth will eventually prevail. what happened in the basement of the merle house? what happened to the young girl who wandered into the surround woods multiple years ago? what happened to mr. merle's young love affair who mysteriously went missing? discover the truth throughout these four short stories.

↳ short review: loved this series & i really enjoyed the audiobook which i listened to alongside reading the story on the kindle app! there was a constant switch between pov's for all characters yet it was not confusing by any means and it was incredibly interesting hearing their past & present and their connection to the mansion. also, the ending was sweet and it was amazing to see everyone come together and find some good amongst all the bad <3

**same review for all 4 stories**

All I have done since I woke up this morning is read this series. Sigh, I just love Lisa Unger. We get this very atmospheric and creepy vibe in part #1, followed by a bit of levity layered with suspense and Slender Man vibes but with the Dark Man in part #2, ouija boards and chilly games in part #3, ending with revelations wonder in part #4. You want it, you've got it!

I love how quick each read was and how I felt like I was going backwards and forwards at the same time... which I know sounds weird but it's delicious fun. I just could NOT STOP. I really can't way much without spoiling things but this is quite the ride. Not only was there this.... nope, can't say that.... hmm. I really loved that... Nope, can't say that either. Y'all! This is hard.

Ok, Unger, as you know (and if you don't - go remedy that immediately), is AMAZING at setting the very creepy and suspenseful atmosphere that lends to the perfect read for this rainy, gloomy day. Talk about mood setting (thanks Nature!). Drawing readers in immediately and keeping them wondering - you'll have a lot of fun with this one. Just remember, you can't hide from the past forever and sometime evil just needs an excuse to show face... so be careful out there, readers. Caw caw.

Review is based on a over all of the 4 book series. This is the fourth book and the conclusion. It can't be read as a solo.
Take the tall tale of Slender Man, mix in the Haunting of Hill House, and stir it up with Stephen Kings It and you have this series. A supernatural thriller set that will keep you on the edge of your seat and reading on to the next book.
4 friends all had a mysterious experience as teens in the Merle House that they don't speak about. Now they are adults and feel drawn back to the house to find out what really happened.
I read these books in order. Each as a stand alone left me confused and wanting more so I had no choice but to read the next book. Well written and gripping but would have done better as one long book. Would not recommend reading any of them as a stand alone and you need to read in order.

This book is a perfect example of “ when you don’t know how to end the story you started and trying to make it more spooky, mysterious and everything, you just make a simple ending with lot of repeated nonsense and confusing flash backs from here and there.

Don’t waste your time

This was the most unsatisfying ending. It barely made sense, and left so many questions completely unanswered. I am mad I can’t get my time back.
