Ok, I’m a big Nick Christie fan. He warns you his books are not for the faint of heart and their not. There is some really hardcore BDSM involving punishing sex. However, there is also a great story and some very hot erotic sex. These guys are into leather ,manly smells, domination and submission. I’ve learned more about leather attire from these books than from all my previous reading.

I love his characters. The two main characters as well as the supporting characters. This was a great book to end 2020 on.

Oh wow. Nick has done it again. Loved this one. If you love leather, kink and hard action this is for you. The story revolves around a number of characters associated with a London gay leather night club. Brilliant book. I couldn't stop reading.

This novel takes a deep dive into the London gay leather club scene by taking a look at how the lives intersect among the owner, patrons, and staff of the club Darkroom. This longer book starts out by slowly introducing various characters, their kinks, and their activities in and out of the club. A central character, Dean, is the owner of the club and he's still grieving the loss of his husband two years prior. This book has a lot of realistic detail regarding leather gear, leather fetishes, and the BDSM sub-culture in the club. There's a fulfilling main love story as Dean finds his new love and healing. There's also a range of other experiences from bad luck to good times among the characters. Keep reading as the book gets better and better as storylines come together.

One of those books you think is that you are going in for one thing, in this case kinky fun, but get so many more emotions. The bonds these Leatherman share are for life, forged in the love of kink, and leading to the powerful love they find. A found family is a way you can only hope translates to real life for these men.
Now, onto the kink side of the book. Hot damn this book is not for light hearted, you have raw, powerful, kinky, gritty af times, along with more tender times, when these men find their match. Read some things that were new to me, and oh boy, were they written well. It's apparent from the writing that Nick is or was part of the scene, which makes the writing that much more believable and palpable.
So yes, it's about the kinky lifestyle of a Leatherman and his club, but it's so much more. Great read highly recommend if looking for a great read for not just the emotions but well played kink as well.

Loved it!

This was my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. There are quite a few different characters but it tends to revolve around a man named Dean who owns a gay club called Darkroom. Dean had lost his partner two years prior and misses him dearly but still manages their club each day. I loved how Darren and Dean meet, their banter and also enjoyed learning about everything to do with wearing leather. There were two intense scenes at the beginning but it was all a part of setting the feel of the book. The ending was a bit sudden but I suppose it had to end somewhere. I look forward to reading more from this author.

This book is for you if:
- you're more excited by leather gear than by the action itself
- you don't mind an unusual 50/50 split of grungy erotica and cheesy romance

This book is not for you if:
- you're put off by unpolished grammar and spelling
- you're only moderately interested in leather

Great read! Definitely not a book for everyone, but if you’re a leather fan you’ve found a great book. Some of the scenes I had to skip as they were too much or not my speed, but over all an enjoyable read! Absolutely love Dean and Darren’s dynamic most of all!

challenging dark hopeful fast-paced
3.0

"Darkroom" is a gay-fiction-erotica and comes with some romance elements
it follows the owner Dean (MC) and employees of a nightclub "Darkroom", as well as other ppl in the leather-kink-community.
The story is written in 3rd person multi POV and set in England/UK

I picked the book up, during kinktober'22 since I researched some new-to-me kinks,
and I never read something from the leather community before.
The story in itself could hold my attention since I as a reader was able to follow different ppl,
so a lot happened, it felt sometimes like an episode or two of a favorite telenovela,
which was a fresh experience and I appreciate this!
The novel had a lot of loose ends regarding the side characters,
but came with a HFN/HEA for the Main Couple.

This was the first full novel I read by the author
and while I enjoyed a lot of the way the whole story was built,
sometimes I got a bit uncomfortable, which had different reasons,
which are rather personal or were a result of my personal discovery,
some kinks worked for me while some kinks just didn't,
which made it a bit difficult to rate the story as a whole, so please don't let you misguide by my rating.

I would recommend this for ppl who
-have an interest in the gay/queer leather kink community.
-want to read an erotica/romance/fiction mix aside from "classic romance"
-love to read about new and/or rare kinks (in fiction)

Side Note: I saw a review pointing out the grammar, and I found it necessary to add in my review, that i'm not native and listened to the book via text2speech, I can't confirm or deny a lack there of.

This book is like a soap opera that brings a mixture of characters together, who are all connected by the Darkroom club. Darkroom is a gay leather club and owned by Dean, he is the most central character in the book.
Nick's books are always unapologetically honest, almost primal with a great deal of  'own voice' genuineness. The book covers many kinks, not all carried out by central characters, but expect all bodily fluids. Book licking does feature heavily, as does the love of leather; the feel  the fit and the smell. I felt I could smell the leather at times. Messy, sloppy, smelly; not one for the easily offended. Lots of leather brands mentioned and I found myself googling them so I get the right picture in my head. Dean and Darren are perfect together, one minute they are taking part in a hot and heavy session, sometimes with others watching and participating and the next they are having swoony, tender moments just them. It is a 5 star read because it feels so real and genuine, it's not all sunshine and roses, this author is one of the few that dares to mention all of the smells and tastes and not just the fresh, showered smells.

Since this work of fiction takes place primarily in a leather bar in London with a focus on lots of gay male sex, gay relationships, escorts, and leather uniforms, it is sadly unlikely to have wide appeal or readership. However, it is clear that the author knows a lot about gay leather culture and has written an authentic fictional account which will appeal to this Community as well as to curiosity seekers.

If readers are looking for a novel pertaining to bdsm as I am, this is not the book for you. I would consider this book “leather lite”.

Kudos to the author for self-publishing and creating a high quality book. While the market is narrow for this sort of book and the profits if any are equally small, stories like this need to be told to offer diversity in the publishing business. This 410 page book with 36 chapters is well written and easy to read with a large font. The paper back is substantial at 6” x 9” with high quality paper.

I recommend supporting this author and buy a copy of Darkroom. Who knows, you may learn something. 😊

So Nick Cristie does warn that this book is not for the faint of heart, but I know many of my book buds can handle the heat!!
Nick does a great job of telling the stories of several men through their connection to Darkroom, a Vauxhall gay kink club. The most central character is Dean, the owner and a leather Dom who is grieving the loss of his partner. We meet several other characters through the background of the club, such as dancers Niall and Reggie, barman Mickey, detective Darren, bouncers Steve and Jason. There’s a big variation on these men’s lives outside of the club; they’re of different economic backgrounds and their day jobs range from real estate to cops to escorts. Their links range from leather to impact to D/s. This book is a very in-depth look at how people work within the kink world, with some extremely 🔥🔥 scenes and a touch of romance. I really liked how Nick switched the POVs so you get everyone’s perspective, even within scenes.
This is a kinky, steamy romp with a very fun group of characters!

Lots of leather kink mixed in with brand new romance for the main character Dean who had lost his husband to cancer two years prior to the beginning of the book. He runs a leather club named the Darkroom in London. The author gives us a very graphic and a very well written view of what happens behind the closed doors. In the hands of a lesser writer, this would simply be smut, but it's more than that. We're simply voyeurs in every sense of the word.

Highly recommended if you're interested in the leather world. If you're not, you're going to probably think that this isn't your cup of tea, but it is well written, so you might find that you're more interested than you think you are. Take a chance and enter the Darkroom.

Darkroom is gay erotic fiction with panache. Nick Christie uses his considerable writing talent to take the reader into the worlds of leather and sex bars and still manages to pull off a gay love story, a sex-asssault and solution plot, and an HEA. There are enough kinky actions and trigger events to keep the timid away. And there's enough spice to fill a couple of Mideast markets. Tropes? Leather daddy, erotic dancers, cop new to the leather scene, mourning a lost partner, gay family. What a wild, hot ride.

Bored by unnecessary details and too many characters (as in, too many characters in addition to the POV characters that I also don’t care about). Telling and backstory with little showing, nothing for me to get invested in. then referring to the people who hired him for pain/kink as his victims (not victims if they’re consenting and the whole thing is their idea, don’t conflate the two. words mean things) plus the classic “what trauma from this person’s childhood made them want this kind of kink” bye

Dark Room is the name of a fictional Gay fetish Club in London owned and run by Dean, a leather man. Lots of sordid piggy sex. Dialogue tends to be wooden. Story line good but very predictable. Main characters Dean, James (Dean’s late hubby) Darren, policeman and Dean’s new boyfriend, Mickey, the club barman, Niall, the star dancer at the club, Reggie and Dylan, gay dancers too, Jason gay bouncer by night and escort by day and Pete (straight) his fellow bouncer.

Gay erotica. 2.5*

Dean and Darren are perfect for each other and it was wonderful to witness them falling in love. All of the characters from the club have their own stories too and I loved Niall who was loud but had a vulnerability about him.
The author’s character descriptions and storytelling are so well done that I feel as if I know them and care about them. Their inner thoughts are so insightful and revealing helping us to understand who they really are
His leather fetish world is so well detailed for readers like me who have not experienced this in real life so that I now feel like a bit of an expert….. not to mention that I now wish that I had tried it😜
Highly recommended!

At first this book jumps around from different characters' points of views, but then you are with the main characters and their love story and HOT sexy scenes. Definitely a book worth reading! I was sucked in with all the action going on in the story
