She loves to travel and experience other cultures, but when she's home, her favorite activities are spending time with her family, cooking, and reading.

An Uncommon Earl is not only the must-read book of the year, it is a brilliantly written story to be savored. With characters who jump off the page, Sian Ann Bessey transports her readers to eighteenth century England with such detail you can smell the flowers, hear the horse-drawn carriages, and experience every emotion of those living within the pages. The story itself includes sweeping highs, crushing lows, and moments you can’t help but laugh out loud or let the tears fall. This book is truly a masterpiece.

This book just exudes kindness. Perfect comfort read.
3.5 🌟 rounded up. I liked the book. The storyline is extremely predictable, but the H & h are very likeable. Asher, the 3 yr old orphan, adds a lot of sweetness to the plot.
I'm so happy to have finally read a historical romance that has some meat in it.Not just fluff and pettiness. The strong social theme, though used very often, is very welcome.

I love these characters! Alexander and Jane were easy to get to know and see how perfect they are for each other. It was fun to see them discover that for themselves as they work together to find the child and also uncover some troubling secrets. The way Alexander fights for improved working conditions for children, specifically chimney sweeps, is admirable and shows his patience and determination through the slow process. He sees Jane for who she truly is and values her the way society doesn't. The pace of the book is steady and as the mystery slowly unfolds I didn't want to put it down. The romance is sweet and blooms naturally as the friendship and affection between Alexander and Jane deepens. Another wonderful book from a favorite author!

This book is the second edition to the Georgian Gentleman series by Bessey. I really enjoyed the first book but I think this one might be my new favorite.
Sian has such a talent for weaving rich historical fiction, fact and language into her stories that the history and the romance almost share the stage equally and that is something I quite enjoyed. You always are learning about history as you read her books and it really makes the whole story that much more immersive, and feel very well researched. I loved learning about the history and practice of chimney sweeps and the laws surrounding them!
Alexander is such a fantastic male lead. He strives for the common good of all and steps up for the underprivileged. Jane has struggles and challenges all her own but not once does she let those define her and she wasn’t afraid to use her voice to stand up for her own well being.
The plot is just as good as the relationship development that you really don’t get a dull moment. There are some sweet and swoony moments, humor, sorrow and good conflict. Overall a fantastic read and would highly recommend for those who love this genre.
PS: everyone needs an Aunt Millward. If you know...you know. ♥️

Oh my heart! The entirety of this book was amazing. I learned so much about aspects of this time period that I didn’t know about before. I love learning history through stories and add some great romance and you have a making of a great book. I loved the characters! I want to be brave like Jane and marry a man like Alexander. Alexander, Earl of Bloxley, was actually introduced in the author’s book The Noble Smuggler. There is no need to read them in order, but I do recommend that.
I highly recommend this book.

Another great story from Sian Ann Bessey! I almost read it in a day but couldn't stay awake past 2 a.m. Finishing it was the first thing I did when I woke up. I think I liked this second book in the Georgian Gentlemen series more than The Noble Smuggler, and I really enjoyed that one. This one deserves more than 5 stars.
Alexander Allerton, the Earl of Bloxley, is certainly a most uncommon Earl. He doesn't care much for parties and musicales; he prefers to use his influence and position in society to help those in the working class. The children of the poor who are forced to work as chimney sweeps as young as 5 years old. At the same time Alexander is fighting for the chimney sweep bill in parliament, he's looking for a 3 year old whose mother was killed in a carriage accident.
Jane Hadford isn't looking to fall in love and get married. Having suffered severe injuries from a riding accident several years ago, she reluctantly goes to societal events with her family. It's at one of these, that she meets Alexander, and ends up helping him locate the little boy whose mother died.
What a story! I love how Sian seamlessly weaves in historical facts from the era in which the story takes place. I don't know which character I loved the most--Alexander, Jane or Aunt Millward. Alexander and Jane are so kind-hearted and want to help those who are less fortunate. They're simply perfect for each other, and have such a swoony romance. Who doesn't love a spunky, older, aunt? Aunt Millward has some of the best scenes and I thought she was hilarious. I'd love to have an Aunt Millward in my life. Oh, and the epilogue is the best!!

This series is becoming a new favourite! This book sucks you in from almost the first page, I literally could not put it down. Bessey is the master of historical fiction. Just the right amount of genuine historical events, subtly woven into the backstory, is a unique element of each of her books. There’s a select few authors who do this well, and Sian Ann Bessey is in the top of that list.
I appreciate the accuracy of the language, it is so nice to read a book set in the UK that has all the little words and phrases from home that sometimes get overlooked by American authors. Bessey is from the UK, and it’s an added bonus for me as a reader to get all those extra nuggets of words I just don’t hear everyday anymore.
Both Alexander and Jane are instantly likable characters, which means you can connect quickly with empathy for them both. Neither of them without challenges, and Janes were certainly unique. As the story progressed, it’s clear that Bessey was not just going to tell a simple tale of two people finding a genuinely good partner. This story had plot twists and edge of your seat moments! I loved the depth to this story that will fully immerse you into their world, and sheer contented at the end.
I’m loving the Georgian Gentlemen series! Can’t wait for more.

An Uncommon Earl is a jewel. It is a rare find that you want to enjoy every moment that it lasts. Sian Ann Bessey has a writing style that pulls me into the story and creates characters that I love.
The Earl of Bloxley is an "uncommon" Earl. He actually cares about the less fortunate and will do all that he can to be an advocate for them. His determination to fulfill a dying flower girl's request and make conditions safer for young workers is admirable.
Jane Hadford is his confidant as well as his fellow sleuth. They are on the hunt for a small boy who was given up to a foundling home. Their compassion drew me to them and sweetened the story for me.
This book has many things to recommend it. It is a good clean romance with elements of a mystery. It's a story of unconditional love and acceptance of others who may be different or less fortunate. The characters are well developed and the pacing was wonderful. The book will leave you feeling good and with hope for a better world.

I am in a state of twitter-pated bibliophile ecstasy over this one! I'm calling it a Regency even though the series title is Georgian Gentlemen. From my pokey attempts at research it looks like the Georgian and Regency eras overlapped for a decade or so and this book has all the divine elements I've come to love in a Regency Romance.
Let's start with our hero, shall we? A very uncommon Earl so the title is spot on! Alexander is the rare kind of nobleman who cares about the plight of the poor and the rights of the working class. His work in parliament is concentrated on benefitting both. Absolutely loved the social justice elements of this novel.
Of course, he's highly sought after as husband material but the only woman who has caught his eye is Miss Jane Hadford but no one would consider her an advantageous match because...well, you have to read the book to find out. Just know that Jane isn't like all the other flighty females flitting about London's Season. She's compassionate and intelligent and eager to help the Earl on his quest to grant a dying mother's last wish.
What follows is a charming blend of bantering wits, oh-so-very-proper (mostly) letter exchanges and even a country outing or two. Along with the desperate search for an orphaned boy and the even more desperate bid to save him once found.
I listened to the audible edition narrated by Jason Tatom and, while I prefer a female narrator, I quite enjoyed Tatom's performance.

The tale of Alexander (the Earl of Bloxley) and Jane is a sweet and endearing one indeed.
I loved the letters this couple exchanged in regards to their searches and situations and it allowed the reader a glimpse of them--Alexander's strength and determination and Jane's quiet, gentle ways. Although they're each flawed, they are beautiful in their combined efforts and connection.
The characters are beautifully written and I especially loved seeing Aunt Millward, as she is a dear favorite of mine in this series.
This was a difficult time period for the lower class and the story of Asher reminds me of an ancestor of my husband's. There are probably many similar stories of those who didn't have wealth and it's a touch heartbreaking to learn about how these children survived. Bessey does a brilliant job of enlightening the reader, while also warming the heart.

I had no idea just how bad conditions would have been during this time period for young workers. I’m talking about really young workers, 4 to 7 years old. I loved the way author Sian Ann Bessey brought that to light in this novel. And the way that some of the gentry may have been trying to fix the problem as well. This story, especially the historically accurate parts touched me deeply.
Another thing I really loved about this one is that our heroine, Jane, is crippled from an accident. This brings her a lot of hardships. People were unkind and uncaring. But she rose above all of that and was able to show love to those that needed it around her. That was one of my very favorite things!
The Earl of Bloxley, Alexander, is one of the gentry trying to fix the problems he saw in society. I love how he was willing to work hard to fix things. And he was kind, even when others weren’t to Jane. And to anyone he felt needed his help.
This is a beautiful story. I loved reading it!

I am in complete character love right now. Lord Bloxley (Alexander), Jane and little Asher literally stole my heart away. Oh and Aunt Millward! I cannot forget her! Great characters make great books.
Okay, yes. The whole story was good. I just love when a story includes real historical events that I can learn more about. In this case it was chimney sweeps and the law to change the age of the young workers. The book flowed gently and easily with a great buildup in the end and the sweetest epilogue but for me this book was all about those characters. They just shine bright throughout the whole book. Kind and gentle but strong Alexander who fights for the downtrodden, the underdog. Jane is observant, smart and brave. Her heart is so big and it expands to include sweet little Asher. I adored them all.
Clearly this was a delightful book. It made me happy.

I loved this banter! It was throughout the entire story, and made it fun to listen to. I enjoyed this story more than book 1, and I’m not sure if that’s mostly due to the narrator being a male vs. female or the story, or the witty banter, but I recommend this audiobook!
This story starts out with a carriage accident and a death, but it is through this tragedy that Alexander makes a promise to find the woman’s child which leads to a mystery of missing children from a foundling home. Alexander is uncommon in the world of the ton because he is striving to help the poor and unfortunate and not just sweep it under the rug.
Then we meet the Hadfords, new to the neighborhood and ready for the social season to begin. Daughter, Jane, had a crippling accident years ago and tends to blend in to the wallpaper, but I’ve the years this has allowed her to become a keen detective and she observes things others tend to miss.
When these two get together they decide that TOGETHER they will find the child. What they didn’t expect, was all the others…
I enjoyed this audiobook, the characters, Jane in her “dotage” since she was told she would never be able to bear children becomes very attached to the children. So much so that she does the unthinkable and faces her fears!
I have to stop or I’ll give too much away. Just to read, or listen to, it!!

Oh man, I just loved this uncommon earl!! I loved how he could care less what society thought, but used his rank to do so much good. He was so thoughtful and caring for everyone, regardless of rank or station.
The romance in this was so good, and played along so well with the plot of the story to find Asher and set things right. I thoroughly enjoyed both of our Main Characters and their dual POV. They both felt things so strongly and had their heads on straight. It was very nice to have a book that I enjoyed both so much.
The side characters in this were so strong too, and I loved them!! The aunt was an absolute favorite, and the story would not have been the same without her.
There were definitely some heavy topics in this that I think need to be addressed: child abandonment, death, infertility, child labor.
I listened to this on audio and just loved it!! The narrator was a male, and he did a great job. 100% recommend as a book and audio!

Another winner from Sian Ann Bessey! I adore this book, just like her others, because of her amazing ability to tell a story that gives you all the feels AND includes fascinating historical detail. She weaves the history into the story in such a natural way and mixes into a perfect blend of mystery, intrigue, and romance!
I have been waiting for this story since reading the last page of The Noble Smuggler and Alexander's story was as amazing as I anticipated. Jane is one of my new favorite heroines - I love her spunkiness and her genuine goodness. The romance between Alexander and Jane is so swoony! And the epilogue? Perfection!

I have been waiting for this story since reading the last page of The Noble Smuggler and Alexander's story was as amazing as I anticipated. Jane is one of my new favorite heroines - I love her spunkiness and her genuine goodness. The romance between Alexander and Jane is so swoony! And the epilogue? Perfection!

Well wasn't this just about the sweetest story. Jane and Alexander are just love as individuals and together and Asher was just too cute.

Loved this book! This is probably my favorite book by Sian I have read so far! I loved everything about it. The characters were wonderful. The story kept me engaged the whole time. I didn’t want to put it down the whole time I was reading. I loved the romance between the main characters and I loved how perfect they were for each other. I just loved this book so much that I highly recommend it to anyone!

Characters sometime make all the difference and in this book they truly did! What a wonderful collection of characters in this book ...I truly want the next book to discuss Phoebe and her future! Trust me you will love Jane, Alexander and Asher and not be able to put this book down. I've said it before and it's definitely true here as well...I LOVE finding new, to me, authors and now I just want to read everything by Sian Ann Bessey. Happy reading!!

You write such incredible stories. I adored this story about Alexander, Jane, and Asher. I sincerely loved how Alexander and Jane bloomed from quiet acquaintance, to friends borne of mutual goals to a couple with deep regard and love for one another. I always appreciate a good friendship before deeper feelings of love between protagonists, and you accomplished that so well.
Other wonderful things I loved are the way you wrote in the varied accents and voices of the characters (that makes it easier to hear in my head), particularly little Asher’s inability to use the letter R. I also really appreciated the history in this book. You are masterful at including historical elements without making me feel like I’m reading a dry textbook or being info dumped. I also love the uniqueness to these stories. I had no idea child labor at such young ages was so widespread a problem. I also enjoyed hearing more about the Foundling Hospital.
I love little Asher so much. Including him in this story was pure brilliance. Having stories where children are so important to the overall plot is unique and you wrote that in so well. I simply adored him.
I also love how different from the “norm” Alexander and Jane both are. Jane’s pure heart and willingness to go against the typical expectations made for a wonderful heroine. I love her! I also really like how hard Alexander worked to make conditions better for the climbing boys. The prevailing attitudes of the day regarding the working class, and the young children forcibly employed in terrible conditions, are disturbing in the extreme. I really appreciated the idea that there were people of influence who felt that those ideas weren’t right and fought for change.
Both books in this Georgian Gentleman series are so, so good and I am looking forward to reading the next book. Thank you for providing such wonderful books for me to read.

Enjoyable story, but have one bone to pick.
I wish Sian had developed the building of Alexander and Jane’s relationship more. I’m sure one more chapter would have done it.
Otherwise, I loved that she made Jane a cripple. It added much more depth to her character.
Aunt Millward was a welcome character and added some comedic relief.
And lastly, Alexander. Sure he was rich, but I loved his desire to help those without a voice. Much easier to like someone who wasn’t just an Earl that perused the estate books all day and complained about having girls throwing themselves at him.

Loved it!
I had the opportunity to meet Sian Ann Bessey twice last month. I knew my daughter really enjoyed her books, but I had never read them before. After meeting her (she's lovely) I decided to give her Georgian Gentlemen series a go. I read the first two books in a few short days, and they were both darling.

I've listened to a podcast with Sian Ann Bessey for over a year, and now feel dumb for not picking up her books sooner. Great, clean regency romance. This is a great addition to the proper romance series. If you like Sarah M. Eden, these are right up your alley. Read this, and bought the 1st one because I didn't want to wait for my hold to come through.

The man who narrated the audiobook gave a good performance and gave this otherwise run of the mill Regency romance an extra star. His performance made the characters more believable, likable, and added personality.

I really liked the premise of this, I liked the characters, but something felt off to me and I didn't enjoy it as much as most of Sian Ann Bessy's books.

Great romance that had so much more to the plot than just the romance! I loved how they came to know each other and worked together. Sweet story!
