Jake is an adrenaline junkie. With putting himself in danger’s way, he could feel the addictive drug in his brain. That way he could feel alive. One of his wallet stealing ended up the wrong way. And the person who’s gonna come after him will get his heart thumping harder, get that adrenaline he loves filling his veins, the sweet song of his rampant heart…
Told in single POV, 3rd person. It’s the first installment in the "Jake & Maddox" series. My only issue was that I didn’t know anything about Maddox (because of the lack of character development I think)! He’s like a mystery and hope in the next installment we found more about him. It’s a fast-paced, quick and an intense read. Overall, I had fun reading this and hope you enjoy it as well!
"Adrenaline Jake" was a short and sexy read. My first book by this author hopefully not my last.
Jake as the title says loves adrenaline, his actually quite addicted to it loves how it makes his heart beat faster. During one of his adrenaline rushes Jake gets tangled in trouble that leads him to Maddox. The cold and brooding Maddox his dangerous and mysterious but instead of feeling the adrenaline rush he so much craves Jake feels an attraction to him something's his never felt for a man.
The story is fast paced with some action, and super sexy the chemistry between Jake/Maddox was hot. Some of the things Jake did were annoying and funny at the same time. But I did love Maddox even though there's not much information we know about him expect, his dangerous. I'm very much looking forward to reading the next book "Mad Dog Maddox" where hopefully will get his story. Enjoyable read.❤️
5+++ and more This was so wonderful, I'm stumbling over my words, don't know where to start to explain. Amaazing, highly sensual, erotic, dark and suspenseful in an unexpected way. The sentences were flowing from one into another, beautiful created. I finished it in one breath. It started with Jake chased by a man who he had pick pocked, to get a picture of Jake's yearning for thrill and adrenaline.
Then he almost got killed by a car, the driver let him step in and with that action his fate was signed. What happens further surprised me to my bones...superb.....
I really can't go into the story (read the blurb) because that would spoil this amazing story. Believe me when I say it made my legs weak by it's sensuality and forces
Not only the story was breathtaking and captivating, the way of writing floored me completely. It was written extremely good in an almost poetic way I was totally glued and enchanted by it.
“Adrenaline wasn’t Jake’s drug of choice anymore, but Maddox certainly was.”
Talk about getting in over your head! Jake is an adrenaline junkie and unwittingly gets caught up in a heist of a rare diamond from Maddox, a Mafia boss, yet even he finds this more excitement than he bargained for. What follows is a desperate bid to evade the vengeful Maddox who not only wants the diamond back, but also demands his pound of flesh sexually.
— adrenaline junkie vs Mafia boss — suspense — kidnapping — dubcon — bdsm lite — gay-for-you
I always struggle to rate short stories because you don't get to know the characters in any real depth, and even though the plot here was engaging I'm an emotions reader.
I need a connection to the characters emotions for me to really love a story and I didn't get that from Jake or Maddox because the novella just wasn't long enough to do that.
I am intrigued enough to keep going with this series though!
Book1- Adrenaline Jack Series-Jack and Maddox Rating - 3.5 Star Pages- 100 Recommended-BDMS/ Dom-Sub lovers
Jack has the normal life of a 22-year-old guy but unlike others, he seeks thrill. He likes danger and goes out of his way to find it. One of these encounters leads to a Cat-mouse game with a Mob boss.
The story is okay but the steam(BDMS) is good. Definitely an entertaining, hot read.
At first I thought Jake was going to be an annoying, irritating character...stealing wallets and whatnot from thugs just for the thrill of them chasing him didn't appeal to me. (I think either I forgot or never read the summary.) But then shit got real. And real scary. And his reaction to that true fear intrigued me.
Like it did Maddox, I guess.
I read a mafia-lite book last week that left me feeling kinda MEH. This one was darker, edgier. Well, sort of. I know the next installment is from Maddox's POV so I'm hoping the dominance, the depravity, the danger isn't toned down.
Damn, I loved that all those scenes happened where Jake was blindfolded, or restrained and kept in the dark (ha!) about Maddox for so long. I also really enjoyed the cat & mouse type games they played. (Well, that Jake played and Maddox controlled.) TMI, probably, but it was entirely too arousing.
Overall book rating: 3.8 Audio Book: N/A Book Cover: 3.8
Short. But Oh so delicious. It has a few flavors I like.
A hint of dark, a side of rough a fluttering of Tattoos and Adrenaline and a brooding Dominant male who commands a room with his presence. Add a little music and danger and I'm basically hooked.
What an amazing start to this series! The way Louise Collins writes her books really works for me on every level. It reminds me a lot of how fanfic is written (and when I say that, I meant it as a very high compliment since fanfic was my world for over 20 years): don't waste time on pointless details or unnecessary setup, just dive right into the story and always focus on the important parts of your story. This is exactly what Louise Collins does. Her main focus is always on squeezing every drop of potential out of every scene and if that means bending the rules of physics a bit or creating situations that are a bit OTT, so be it. I normally hate OTT or unrealistic stuff in books but Collins' approach works for me because she's doing it in service of the story and in particular - in service of the romance. If she has to make time move unnaturally slowly so a specific interaction between the MCs is even more romantic/meaningful/exciting then she does it and I love that! In addition, I love how well paced and well plotted Collins' stories are. They're funny, exciting, sexy and emotional and the author does a great job of moving between these emotions as each scene requires.
I also love how she approaches age gaps in her stories. In general, I really dislike how age gaps are handled in MM romance because it feels like gender-swapped MF romances from the 80s. This is the third book I've read by Collins and all of them have featured age gaps with one character being in their early 20s and the way she sets things up makes things work for me so well. Like in her previous books, the younger MC (in this case, Jake) might be young but he's intelligent, mature for his age and isn't a wide-eyed naïve damsel-in-distress. When Jake gets unwittingly wrapped up with mafia shenanigans and he ends up being threatened by men who are much larger and stronger than him, he stays in control and uses the weapons that are available to him: outwitting and outbluffing his opponents until he's in a position where he can run like hell. He might have been out of his element with the mafia stuff, but he was never a useless damsel-in-distress and I love that about Collins' younger heroes.
I also loved the progression of the romance. Like I mentioned before - the author doesn't waste time on stuff that doesn't really matter. Jake and Maddox come together because of mafia stuff and there's sexy times pretty much instantly. Is it realistic and does it make sense? No. But the pacing of the story and the way the author enthusiastically jumps from one scene to the next means I didn't care. In addition, all of Jake and Maddox's sexual interactions are dub-con (due to Jake being held captive and/or not consenting to the situation) but the author does such a great job of portraying Jake's thought processes throughout that I didn't mind. It's not realistic but did it feel in character for Jake? Absolutely. And that's the sign of an author who knows how to tell a good story.
Another thing I loved was how the BDSM elements were handled. Kink wise, the story is light BDSM (bondage and blindfolds are the only kinks that are used) but what was interesting was that Jake has never experienced any BDSM related sex before. The situation wasn't set up as purposeful BDSM but it ends up being that due to Jake being Maddox's captive (hence, the bondage) and Maddox wanting to hide his identity from Jake (so - blindfold). But Jake ends up going into subspace and then also experiencing subdrop later, which was a really neat thing to add. He has no idea what's happening and Maddox wasn't expecting that, which results in some beautiful moments between them. I can't get over how creative this author is!
I did take off 1 star because of the author's unfortunate tendency to leave sloppy SPAG errors throughout the book. It makes me desperately want to zip through the book to clean up these small errors (ex. missing words, misspelled words, accidentally calling Tom 'Tony' one time etc). This is unfortunately standard for this author but the story was still fantastic.
I'm just so thrilled with life right now! I've been disappointed over and over again by authors who wrote one thing that I loved but never produced something else at that level (my most recent read is the best example of it). There's nothing worse than finding an author who writes something specific exactly the way you like but then the author never repeats that specific thing again. But in Louise Collins' case, she's continuing to deliver exactly what I want and that's why I can't wait to continue reading her work! I'm going to start by continuing with this crazy mafia erotica series that shouldn't work for me but it definitely does.
I haven't read anything by this author, and didn't bother to look her up before reading this. I wouldn't have guessed she's British, didn't see it in her writing.
This is how you write erotica! With passion and sensuality. It wasn't hardcore, no BDSM (maybe in the next book). But it was still awesome! :P Fast-paced, sexy and hot as hell!
Jake has an addiction. Not drugs or alcohol like most of the people on his street, but adrenaline. He gambles with his life to get his fix, angering the most intimidating people he can find until they give chase.
The adrenaline highs are short-lived and leave him with a crushing drop, until one day the unexpected happens.
Dangers finds him.
He steals from the wrong man. A man ruthless and cold, who intimidates the very air he stands in. The man wants to reclaim what was stolen from him, and pursues.
The adrenaline rushing through Jake's body unexpectedly turns to arousal. Being at the mysterious mans mercy is a high he can't hope to find, one he needs as much as oxygen.
This is a story that I knew nothing about & an author that I had not read before. I was pleasantly surprised by both and found this story fast paced, intense, mysterious, sexy, and one I want to keep reading. I believe this is the start of a series, hopefully each book will have the same characters. There is a lot of unanswered questions after this book and I can only assume details will be revealed in subsequent books. 3 stars to the start -- can't wait for book 2!
Difficult to rate this one for me. Not because there's anything wrong with the book, but due to my reading preferences. Nicely written erotic story about an adrenaline junkie getting tangled up with the dark side of society. This was where the chosen plot and I didn't mesh well. It was a tad too violent for my liking. Just like in a horror movie I got to see the main character making stupid choices that lead from bad to worse, and I struggled with the choices made.
My second sample by this author and I begin to suspect her stories feature main characters who are on the verge of too violent and twisted for me personally, but I can see how her books can be veritable catnip for others.
This certainly packs a punch! I know all I did was sit and read but I swear I’ve got adrenaline pumping through my veins! That’s how well written this is!
I’m glad there’s more books to this series because I want more!! I want to know more about this elusive and secretive Maddox! Jake is also pretty awesome. He should be an actor, not working in an arts supply store. Lol!
One thing is certain, Adrenaline Jake isn't your typical , first time gay, opposite attract, GFY, dub/con , MM, erotic, semi- romantic story.
Louise Collins have written a different, edgy, raw ,hot AF , cat and mouse game, story that I very much enjoyed for all it's peculiarities including the level of violence , morally dubious MC and supportive cast. Here the heroes are also villains .
Exciting and intriguing start to this series. Jake lives for the rush of adrenaline in his life, and he sure finds it when he steals from a very powerful man. What he doesn't expect to find is attraction to the mysterious man, Maddox. I look forward to seeing where things go from here.
Part of a series but I don’t think I’ll read the rest. Little plot with some initial indication of one with a stolen diamond that doesn’t really go anywhere interesting. Insta love / infatuation between the two MMC’s wasn’t enough to keep me particularly interested or invested in what happened to them.
A little bit different to the style of books I usually read but really enjoyable. I feel like it could have done with a bit more editing as there were some words missing and some where they shouldn't have been.
A short, dark and twisted read that I really enjoyed. The storyline is very original and extremely well written and developed. Although a short read, it flows flawlessly and does not cut the story short. Jake and Maddox are wonderful characters with sizzling chemistry and who are definitely perfect for one another. I don't want to give away too much of the story, but series of events bring them together under very unusual circumstances. You really have to read this book, it was my first by this author but definitely won't be my last! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
I kind of enjoyed this, even when it was rather preposterous in concept. But I have a kink for criminals, especially mixed with well crafted erotic scenes. I’ll probably keep reading.
