A Good Day for Chardonnay
Running a small-town police force in the mountains of New Mexico should be a smooth, carefree kind of job. Sadly, full-time Sheriff--and even fuller-time coffee guzzler--Sunshine Vicram, didn't get that memo.
All Sunshine really wants is one easy-going day. You know, the kind that starts with coffee and a donut (or three) and ends with take-out pizza and a glass of chardonnay (or seven). Turns out, that's about as easy as switching to decaf. (What kind of people do that? And who hurt them?)

Still, perhaps beneath it all, he possesses the keys to her disappearance. At the very least, beneath it all, he possesses a serious set of abs. She's seen it. Once. Accidentally.
Between policing a town her hunky chief deputy calls four cents short of a nickel, that pesky crush she has on Levi which seems to grow exponentially every day, and an irascible raccoon that just doesn't know when to quit, Sunny's life is about to rocket to a whole new level of crazy.

OMG! One of my favorite coolest, sarcastic, witty, coffee addict heroines is back and she’s definitely rising and sun-shining in this novel!
Of course the name of the book is truly calling me: every day is great day for Chardonnay as you keep reading small town police officer’s ultra laugh out, smart, entertaining adventures.
This time her cutie pie daughter is chasing serial killer and of course ongoing investigation about Sunshine’s kidnapping gets an interesting turn by finding accurate evidences : all signs show the notorious bad boy Levi! But Sunshine already knows deep in her guts he never involves into anything may hurt her!
This book is more action packed, more mysterious, more caustic, more powerful and definitely more enjoyable.
As soon as I finished, I checked my ereader and screamed a lot : I thought I skipped some pages: there might have been more! There must have been more! It couldn’t finish so soon! I needed moreeeee!
Especially that awwww amazingly cuteeee ending later, I had every right to expect to read more! That cliffhanger was literally sunshine of my midnight ( I finished the book around 3 a.m in the early morning and after the book pumped too much adrenaline into my veins, I couldn’t expect to sleep!!!)

A little too much Chardonnay left me feeling hungover!
Don’t read this book if you haven't read book one: A Bad Day for Sunshine
There is quite a lot going on in A Good Day for Chardonnay: Sunshine Vicram is investigating a case linked to her past, her teenage daughter, Auri, is investigating a cold case involving a serial killer, and currently, the man she is in love with, Levi Ravinder, is involved in a serious altercation leading to an even bigger investigation. On top of this, town secrets are revealed, a tragic death occurs, and a huge revelation is made, leading to a cliffhanger. Whew! It’s a lot to take in and a lot to follow.
The narrative switches back and forth between Sunshine and Auri. I love the relationship between these two. Their banter always makes me smile. Similar to book #1, the dialogue is fast-paced and extra-sharp. However, at times it was all a little too much, especially with the multiple plot lines and extra quirky characters woven in. Warning: There is also a NSFW sex scene that was off the rails. Some of the language had me covering my eyes.
Having loved book#1, I was so excited to read book #2. Unfortunately, I didn’t love this the way I was expecting. The plot has too many storylines. The characters I found witty and charming in book #1 were a little obnoxious and a little too ridiculous for my taste. However, I still love these characters and look forward to reading book #3.
The good thing about this book is that lots of burning questions are finally answered. I have no idea where things go from here, especially with this wackadoodle cast of characters, but I look forward to finding out.

While I’m much more of a Chianti kind of girl, every once in awhile a glass of crisp, cool chardonnay hits the spot on a hot summer night.
So it goes with my reading preferences too, and occasionally I need to take a break from dark and twisty thrillers with bright and sunny mysteries. Enter Darynda Jones’s humorous Sunshine Vicram series and the release of book two, A Good Day for Chardonnay.
First of all, if you haven’t already read its predecessor, A Bad Day for Sunshine, you’ve wandered into the wrong review and should redirect yourself accordingly. Start there where Sheriff Vicram, her daughter Auri, and the larger cast of Del Sol, New Mexico characters and their backstories are introduced.
Then pick back up with Chardonnay where you’ll find a very satisfying - if unnecessarily overstuffed - continuation of the plot. Big questions are answered, including “will they or won’t they” about a major relationship. Now let’s just say hypothetically that they will…
… and they will in the type of graphic open-door fashion where all the c-words I loathe come into play (so to speak, wink wink). Turns out this particular vintage of chardonnay is quite hot and spicy, so you’ll need a glass of water nearby. Or if you’re like me, earmuffs.
The audiobook is narrated by the always spectacular Lorelei King, who fans of this particular genre of mystery+romance+humor will recognize from similar books like those by Janet Evanovich. She has a way of nailing the sass and snark of these characters like no one else. I hope she sticks around to read book three, because this one sure ends on a big cliffhanger.

Sunshine Vicram is the local sheriff for Del Sol New Mexico. A job she was elected for without the benefit of running for office. She is raising her teenage daughter Auri while supposedly fighting crime. Though the crimes tend to be raccoons on the loose and paper cut fiascos. Until now…
I love Sunshine and her daughter.
Their connection as mother and daughter is amazing and at the same time….fun! Oh, and did I mention Sunshine’s love interest Levi Ravinder?🔥🔥
There is romance and mystery.
But it’s the humor that shines through this book. Careful if you are reading this book in public as you won’t be able to contain your laughter! Sunshine’s blind dates at the beginning of the book left me giggling remembering some of my own blind date disasters!😂
My only con was there seemed to be so much going on with different plot lines that I found myself lost at times.
Though book one of Darynda Jones’ series A Bad Day For Sunshine remains my favorite… this latest was a strong runner-up. Fingers crossed there will be a book three. Ummm…. Darynda? You are currently working on book three right!?

Del Sol, New Mexico Sheriff Sunshine Vicram is looking forward to her first day off in four months, but the universe has other plans for her. A violent and deadly bar brawl gets her back out of the house when she hears her lifelong crush, Levi Ravinder, is at the scene.
While the case is a bit of a doozy, Sunshine has no idea how bad it’s going to get, and how many complicated directions it will go in. On top of that, more blueberry muffins have been delivered to Sunshine and her daughter, Aura, from a well-intended citizen. Anyone who read the first book in the series, A Bad Day For Sunshine, knows that means trouble is on the way.
Before Sunshine knows it, she’s dealing with a vicious raccoon on the loose, a complex case involving kidnapping and money, her daughter, Auri, who is on the hunt for a serial killer, and the man she literally can’t get out of her head. That’s in addition to also trying to shed some light on Sunshine’s own traumatic past. Will she finally get some answers?
This was a fun one, and better than the first. Again, the characters really put this a couple notches above where it would otherwise be. The snark, one liners, and sweet personalities are in full force.
The actual mystery - or mysteries - take a back seat in my opinion. They’re definitely interesting, but also a bit convoluted. I prefer the moments where they’re not the main focus.
This one also has a bit more spice than the first…basically 1.5 scenes…but the heat is very descriptive. 🔥 There's also a lot of heart and more depth than I expected…even some dark moments. I almost teared up a few times…and then went back to smiling and giggling.
I am definitely looking forward to book #3 after the way this one ends!

Having loved the first one in Darynda Jones comic Sheriff Sunshine Vicram series, I was looking forward to this. I enjoyed this one too, even if on occasion the humour turned a little towards the cheesy side, and the novel rather overstuffed with content. Set in the small mountainous town of Del Sol, New Mexico, it opens with Sun on a blind date, organised by her parents, with pest control technician Carver. She is not impressed, but he is going to prove to be a hard man to shake off. She heads to bestie and Chief Deputy Quinn Cooper home, along with seemingly everyone else including the women from the bookclub, where a racoon is on the loose.
After this, Sunshine finds herself racing towards a serious incident that has ex-military Keith Seabright seriously attacked by 3 men, and the love of her life, Levi Ravinder injured after he went to Keith's aid. Mayor Donna Lomas is insisting that Sun identify the Dangerous Daughters, rumoured to secretly run Del Sol, and to do it soon. Sun's daughter, 15 year old Aurora aka 'Arie, demonstrates just how like her mum she is as she leads her boyfriend, Cruz, and her best friend into grave danger as she looks into a cold case of murder and disappearances. Hanging over everything is Sun's historical abduction when she was 17, of which she has no memory, and which resulted in her becoming pregnant with Aurie. The murdered body of Brick Ravinder was found near the scene of the crime, and she knows Levi knows something.
One of the most joyful aspects are the interactions and banter between Sun's police team, which includes Deputy Tricia Salazar, the ace shooter Zee, and 'newbie' Poetry Rojas, whom she blackmailed into becoming a cop, and who is turning out to have stellar instincts and spot on judgements. Sunshine makes for a terrific central protagonist, but what really lifts this series is the wide array of offbeat supportive characters that lift this series from the ordinary. This is a wonderfully entertaining and fun read that I recommend to others, although I am aware that humour can be a strange affair can work for many people, but can leave others cold. I read the blurb and a few reviews and liked the sound of a female sheriff, Sunshine Vicram, who guzzles coffee and doesn't mind wrestling with a cantankerous little raccoon. All the while, solving crime while navigating life in her small town.
There was just too much going on in this book (IMO), some parts are just goofy, with cheesy banter. There are also quite a few characters to keep track of and they each have their own shenanigans to keep up with.
The behind closed door scenes with Sunshine really threw me for a loop. I wasn't expecting this genre to go there, but it sure did. I don't need those graphic scenes that read like a how-to manual. EWW, the sun shouldn't shine there!
What does this book want to be? Pick a lane and stay in it!
I'm still looking for that light, easy read with lots of whimsy and likeable characters.

DNF at 50%. I don't remember the audiobook, the first in this series as being so SILLY!!! Think Gilmore Girls only much cheesier. The dialogue between 30+ y/o mom and 15 y/o daughter couldn't be more unbalanced. The sexual fantasies and actions of the mom were more immature than the daughter's. Good thing the daughter has her grandparents around!!

Del Sol, NM native, Sheriff Sunshine Vicram, wishes just one day would be an easy day in this sleepy mountain town! Today's agenda:
- A pesky raccoon on the loose...
- A bar fight that turns bloody and ugly...
- A convicted murder asking for a favor...
- A teenage daughter, investigating a cold case...
- An unsolved abduction that still haunts her with questions...
And then there's a serious distraction in the form of hunky Levi Ravinder! What's a sheriff to do? Pour an ice cold glass of Chardonnay and chill?
The small town humor, quirky characters with mystery & romance mixed in continues, along with the serious topics and non-stop action. There's also a smokin' hot sex scene that is vividly described! Yep, there's a little bit going on!
I adore the sheriff's eclectic team and the sheriff's back-and-forth banter with Quincy, her Chief Deputy, who also happens to be her BFF.
I love Sunshine's relationship with her amazing daughter, Auri and how they stay so connected. Their communication is a humorous highlight but with pointed seriousness necessary to establish, without question, who is in charge of this mother & daughter duo.
The audiobook is narrated by Lorelei King who, once again, delivers serious dialog, upbeat & humorous moments with gender appropriate voicing. It's an awesome listen with unexpected whip smart, fiery, and ornery delivery!

It's fun going back to this crazy town of Del Sol and Its Sherriff, Sunshine Vicram.
However, in order to enjoy this ride, you must read A Bad Day for Sunshine or you'll be very confused.
So where does Chardonnay go?
Many places all at once.

What I love about Darynda's style is that her characters are full of snark, quick comebacks, sassiness, and brooding men. Yes, sometimes it can be too much and you think the characters are on speed or something like it but when you mostly read dark thrillers, it's refreshing.
A Good Day for Chardonnay has all those ingredients and the best part is that we do get some answers to some of the questions A Bad Day for Sunshine left us with. However, it does end in a cliffhanger.
Will I read the third book?

I LOVE the humor and snark in this book. More, I love the relationship between mother and daughter which is open and sweet.

I love this narrator! She does an exquisite job on the timing, the humor and dry wit of all the characters. The voice variance between Sunshine and Auri is so distinctive, it’s hard to remember it’s the same narrator. It’s like listening to a live conversation between the two. I love reading the book but this narrator takes the experience to the next level.

THIS BOOK. I don't know what to do with myself. I just finished this one and this has been the fastest I read through a book in months. If I could give it a million stars it wouldn't be enough. Granted it was my most anticipated and it didn't disappoint. People, if you have never read a Darynda Jones book, your loss. There is an easy fix though. A GOOD DAY FOR CHARDONNAY is the second installment in this author's Sunshine Vicram series. So you can still read the first book before this one releases.
Now to the good stuff. What you need is tissues. Many, many tissues. For the parts you when you're laughing so hard that tears are running down your face and for the parts when you have tears in your eyes because you're overwhelmed with emotions. Yes, that happens too.
Apart from the awesome, fabulous, amazing, wonderful, unbelievable, quirky cast there is an equally awesome, suspenseful storyline that was such a page turner that it was hard for me to tear myself away. I ADORED Sunshine and Levi in this book, just as much as Sun's clever, clever daughter Auri.
And Cruz, Auri's boyfriend, is someone you want for your own daughter, believe me. He is THE BEST. This kid hit me in the feels right where it hurts best. The whole. Forking. Time. Enigmatic and charismatic Levi shows that he is more than the grumpy hot guy and when he shines it's spectacular.
There is also this wonderful friendship between Sunshine and her BFF and Chief Deputy Quincy. These two walk through fire for one another and their conversations were some of the most humorous. And how I loved the our heroine, Sheriff Sunshine Vicram, whose integrity is absolute, who always questions herself. If you don't love her, we can't be friends anymore. #SorryNotSorry
There is a slew of characters but I never felt that I got lost. The author does an amazing job to make you remember every single personality in this small town in New Mexico.
If you're like me and had thousands of questions after A BAD DAY FOR SUNSHINE you'll get answers but prepare to have even more questions when you're done. That's just how this series works and I don't care. Give me twenty books in this series and all with cliffies and I'll die a happy woman.
Darynda Jones is an exceptional storyteller who has one of the best writing voices I've read in recent years. Her sense of humor, that hilarious sarcasm and the many "oh snap" moments, are what make this story so fast paced and captivating and outstanding, I giggled, laugh-snorted, and downright laughed hysterically throughout most of the book. She also cranks up the heat between Sunshine and Levi. Phew!
Fans of her Charley Davidson series will delight in the easter eggs - have fun finding them! What I said about the cliffies is true but I really hope that we don't have to wait as long for the next book because, boy, this series is my new addiction and I need my fix in a timely manner. For now I predict that this will be my top favorite of 2021.

Lately, the best and worst part for Sunshine is that both her past and her biggest case lead her back to one person: Levi Ravinder, the one man she can’t seem to forget.
Auri wants to be just like her mom, and can’t help but get herself and a few of her friends into trouble when investigating what seems like a fairly straightforward case.
For me, the best part about “A Good Day for Chardonnay” were the characters and their relationships. I was rolling with laughter at the antics that ensued between these guys and loved the witty banter that was exchanged between Sunshine and her daughter Auri and Sunshine and her bestie, Quincy. One scene between Sunshine and Quincy got me and got me good! While I liked the romance between Sunshine and Levi, I was wholly unprepared for how quickly it transpired and found it to be a bit too steamy for my liking.
All in all, I enjoyed this addition to the series, loved how it ended, and can’t wait for the next addition to the story.

If you’re looking for a serious police procedural, this isn’t it. No, this is more on the lines of a chuckle a minute romp. This is the second in the series of Sunshine Vicram, sheriff of a small New Mexican town. All she wants is a day off, after four months working nonstop. But things just aren’t going her way.
I love this crazy cast of characters. There’s lots of bad guys, hot guys, smoldering looks (by people of all ages), and unrequited desire. And one mother-daughter talk that had me in stitches. (and would have mortified me if I’d ever had that talk with my mother!) Once again, the signs and police blotters at the start of each chapter always amused.
There are multiple storylines and thus, multiple climaxes. To some degree, none of the endings are believable, but they are satisfying. And given the cliffhanger at the very end, that bodes well for a book #3.
I wouldn’t want a constant diet of this kind of zaniness, but it’s a lovely palate refresher after a lot of dark stories. I recommend this for fans of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series.

This is a worthy follow up to A Bad Day for Sunshine as the author once again taps into the energy and the fun of the main character, Sunshine Vicram.
In this delightful installment, there are many things afoot in this small town where Sunshine reigns as the sheriff. All of the characters we have come to love are back including the hunk Levi. He still sizzles Sunshine’s brain and other parts and their involvement proceeds to its inevitable conclusion.
Sunshine's daughter, Auri, is trying to be like her mom, out there trying to solve crimes and thinking one of the elderly town residents is a serial killer. It's crazy town with a huge share of people who seem at times to be operating on shaky ground. However, in the midst of fun and frolic, there's murder, mayhem, and 💕💕.
What was fun in the first book continues, are the barbs and banter that flows especially between Sunshine, her parents, and her cohorts. All in jest but with some serious death challenging events, the author manages to keep the reader satisfied with its content while settling some unanswered questions from the first book.
It’s a tad long, but absolute fun as we breathe a sign of relief as Sunshine gets exactly what we hope she would.

There are many layers to the Sunshine Vicram series. the mystery of her abduction fifteen years earlier continues to unravel as other Del Sol occurrences require police intervention. There are answers to some questions and crimes are solved while others remain a mystery. I love the sign/police blotter quips that begin each chapter and the snarky banter. Like the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich, there are plenty of quirky supporting characters. This series is also read by the same narrator as the Stephanie Plum books -- Lorelei King. I was happy to see that the beefcake comments were not as prominent as in the first book. If you like your mysteries with some spice, this book does have one very detailed interlude. For me that takes a star away from my review, but some may find it adds to their experience.

A Good Day for Chardonnay by Darynda Jones is the second book in the Sunshine Vicram series. This series is a mix of genres as it’s somewhat like a romantic suspense but it also has the feel of a humorous cozy mystery. Regardless of what you want to label it the books are certainly a lot of fun to read.
The Sunshine Vicram series has introduced readers to a new protagonist in Sunshine Vicram. Years ago Sunshine had left her small town of Del Sol, New Mexico with no real plans of returning after a traumatic experience she had kept quiet. Now that she has returned though her sneaky parents somehow got her name on the ballots to be elected the next Sheriff of the town. As much as Sunshine didn’t want the job she still wants to do the job well now that she has the title.
The second book of the series still has Sunshine chasing ghosts with trying to solve her own abduction that occured before she left Del Sol. In the meantime the small town is not without crime yet again even though all Sunshine wants is one easy day on the job. With everything else going on Sunshine also has to deal with her daughter sneaking out to investigate a local who she thinks is a serial killer and a pesky raccoon that just thinks he owns the town.
One of the reasons it’s hard to nail down where to classify this series is that it has so much going on. The series has continued parts of the storyline from the first book which is abnormal in romantic suspense and cozy mysteries so I’d warn that it’s best to start from the beginning. There is a ton of action and adventure within each book that flows well all at a wonderfully quick pace which I love and I’m still chuckling at some of the humor in the story. Just one thing held this back from a full five stars for me and that was the sexy parts, I would have probably toned that back a bit even though it is normal in romantic suspense but this series has so much more to offer and could fit a wider audience. Anyway, four and a half stars is still amazing and I’ll definitely be back for more.

Sunshine (Sun) Vicram, Sheriff of a small town in New Mexico, likes nothing better than to sit on her porch at the end of the day, sipping on a chilled glass of chardonnay while watching another magnificent sunset. Unfortunately, she doesn't get much time to enjoy that favourite pastime in this novel. Between her parents setting up blind dates for her with unsuitable men, she also has to find the men who fled from a bar brawl leaving a man near death, as well as hunt down a thieving raccoon, and then there is her 15 year old daughter Auri, who keeps sneaking out of the house every time her back is turned. Not to mention her continuing distraction in the form of the smoulderingly sexy Levi Ravinder (and the big question of will they or won’t they).
If you enjoy snarky, sassy women (in a similar vein to Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum), implausible but enjoyable situations and some pretty cheesy dialogue (particularly between Sun and Auri) then this is a fun read (but do read the first book in the series first). I had the privilege of listening to the audiobook of A Good Day for Chardonnay by Darynda Jones that was well narrated by Lorelei King. A Good Day for Chardonnay was the second book in this clever mystery series and it was equally if not better than the first installment. In a small town in New Mexico, Sunshine Vivram, tirelessly worked to keep her town and its residents safe as their Sheriff. There were multiple mysteries that occurred simultaneously in this book. They kept Sunshine on her toes and with a cup of coffee constantly in her hand. Unfortunately, there was not as much time to enjoy that glass of Chardonnay with the demands that came with her position. The chapters alternated between Sunshine and her fifteen year old daughter, Auri.
A Good Day for Chardonnay had me laughing out loud at times and even forced me to shed a few tears. It was part mystery, part comedy and even had an element of romance mixed in. Darynda Jones was able to bring the characters to life in this book. Most of the characters were easy to relate to and they were quite believable. It focused on the complex relationship of mothers and daughters, both with Sunshine and Auri and even with Sunshine and her own mother. There was the discovery of new and old romance. The mysteries kept me guessing and were enhanced with twists, turns and even a few surprises. I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook of A Good Day for Chardonnay by Darynda Jones and highly recommend it. I look forward to and hope there will be a third book in this series.
A Good Day for Chardonnay had me laughing out loud at times and even forced me to shed a few tears. It was part mystery, part comedy and even had an element of romance mixed in. Darynda Jones was able to bring the characters to life in this book. Most of the characters were easy to relate to and they were quite believable. It focused on the complex relationship of mothers and daughters, both with Sunshine and Auri and even with Sunshine and her own mother. There was the discovery of new and old romance. The mysteries kept me guessing and were enhanced with twists, turns and even a few surprises. I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook of A Good Day for Chardonnay by Darynda Jones and highly recommend it. I look forward to and hope there will be a third book in this series.

A Good Day for Chardonnay picks up where book one left off. Just like the first book, there is a little bit of everything in this one. There is a mystery at the heart of the story (actually 2 mysteries), but along the way, there is also some romance and a lot of funny one-liners. My favorite storyline is actually the ongoing one where Sunshine's past gets pieced together.
There is a lot to like about this book. The short sayings at the start of each chapter are so entertaining. There is once again lots of fun banter and of course I adore the quirky characters of Del Sol and their crazy antics. Everyone needs a bestie like Quincy and a swoon worthy Levi Ravender in their lives. Sure the story can be far fetched at times and the dialogue a bit over the top, but this series is just so much fun. And now the wait for book 3. 4 stars.
Reader beware, there is a sex scene that was a bit racy, so consider yourself warned if that isn't your thing.

Sheriff Sunshine Vicram is back along with her sleuth teenage daughter Auri and the rest of the quirky crew from the first book A Bad Day For Sunshine. I went into A Good Day For Chardonnay with fingers crossed for more of the sarcastic, witty banter and laugh out loud scenes and was richly rewarded with all that and more. This book gifts readers with much needed depth in story line that I found lacking in book 1 - depth found through the exploration and development of the case of Sunshine's abduction. All clues point to bad-boy Levi Ravinder, but Sunshine knows in her heart he didn't do it although she has a feeling he was there. Major revelations there, and the author takes this opportunity to strengthen and develop their relationship and move it forward at warp speed. Readers also get more depth through the inclusion of an old serial killer case that daughter Auri, whose determined to follow in her mother's footsteps, decides to investigate along with her best friend and boyfriend Cruz. What a fiasco that turns out to be! Again, great character and plot development! These plots all twist and intertwine in surprising ways, producing hilarious scenes filled with snark and yet also real emotional connections between characters. I can't say enough about this cast of characters - each command their own space in the story and every single unique personality has its time to shine. Jones has outdone herself!

Downright fun to read! I read the first in the Sunshine Vicram series and enjoyed it so much that when I spotted this one I couldn't wait to read it. The main character is Sheriff Sunshine Vicram in a quirky little town in New Mexico. She's got a stabbing on her hands, her daughter Auri is secretly hunting a serial killer, the owner of a local distillery -who she lusts after, but may be involved in her kidnapping when she was younger, whew! Then there's the mayor's obsession with Sunshine tracking down a secret organization called the Dangerous Daughters who she purports may actually run the town.
I love the quirky characters. The raccoon caper broke me up, laughing out loud. So much fun to read! Can't wait for the next in the series and hoping it comes very soon!

I’m enjoying learning more about these great characters. And I always like when the story is talking places near where I live. It feels like I’m in the action. And it’s such a treat to get to hear Lorelei King. She adds so much to these stories.

Have you ran through all twenty-five Stephanie Plums and find yourself jonesing for a new quirky crimefighting female lead? If so, look no further than Sunshine Vicram . . . .
I keeed. I keeeed. In all honesty I wasn’t exactly sure Sunshine’s series was going to be my cuppa tea after book one either, but there’s occasionally an exception to the rule so I buckled down and requested the second. I mean seriously I did it for the cover alone. That’s just good stuff. And the contents weren’t terrible either. I mean, I could really do without some of the trying-waaaaaay-too-hard-dialogue . . . .
Not to mention characters with names like Crystal Meth. Oh the cringe! At over 400 pages there’s probably close to 100 of filler and subplots no one gives a rip about that could be left on the cutting room floor in order to keep things flowing too. But the good news is once Darynda Jones finds her rhythm, she’s actually pretty funny without even trying . . .
“I don’t recognize any of them. Do you?”
“Nah. Sorry, boss.”
She noticed a couple had visible tattoos. “What about their ink?”
“That one,” he said, scrolling back until he came to the stocky one with the tattoo of a scorpion on his hand, “is La Cosa Nostra.”
She gaped at him. “Really?”
He laughed. “No.”
Additional good news is the questions I had at the end of the first book all got answered in this one and the dealbreaker I was afraid of never came to fruition (or was explained away and didn't leave me feeling like I needed a bleach bath). So when it comes to how many of these will I be reading before I give up on the series? At this point . . . .

Come for the chardonnay, stay for the razor sharp wit, and fall in love with the zany characters of Del Sol, New Mexico.
I'm a big fan of the first installment for the Sunshine Vicram series, A Bad Day for Sunshine, and I am thrilled to say that Darynda Jones delivered another entertaining romp. I love the snarky dialogue and the fun side plots - an unruly raccoon wreaking havoc, an elderly lady who confesses to every crime that takes place in Del Sol, and a persistent blind date.
There's a lot of mystery and several storylines unfolding. Many questions from the first book are answered here along with new revelations. I wouldn't say this was riveting but I enjoyed every minute of the adventure. It's the type of cast that you wish you could hang out with. Overall, I found the ending and all the different reveals to be satisfying. Speaking of satisfying...
... little Miss Sunshine had herself a MOMENT (or two...). I saw all the warnings about a spicy sex scene and I thought, well of course! It's a good day for chardonnay after all! Plus I've read all the Game of Thrones books. I should be good. But wow, I was not expecting all that! It did not mesh with the fun, lighthearted tone of the book.
Seems to be that in order to be a homeowner in Del Sol, one must be highly skilled in the art of sarcasm. Every single character (even down to the damn raccoon) have the same level of snark. Would've liked to have seen variations in character's voices.
If you're looking for a witty series with lovable characters, check this out. I'm a red blend guy but I'll sip on this chardonnay any day! Already looking forward to A Hard Day for a Hangover, cheers!

The adventures continue in book two of the Sunshine Vicram Mystery Series, A Good Day for Chardonnay. We jump right in with small town Sheriff Sunshine Vicram, her lovable but too smart for her own good daughter, Auri and a big cast of assorted friends and foes. There’s a lot of crime, deaths, kidnappings and stabbings in this little New Mexico town and while there’s a lot of laugh out loud mayhem the mysteries and crime solving are intense and kept me glued to the story. Just a little heads up these aren’t cozy mysteries despite being fun they’re a bit steamy and murder-y.
I’m absolutely LOVING this series and I highly recommend it. I’m starting book three immediately. The storytelling is addictive and exciting, plus I’m in love with these characters, and this crime filled little town and I’m not ready to leave them. If you like audiobooks then I’d recommend giving this one a listen. The narration is phenomenal! But, I’m sure the book is equally fabulous.

Darynda Jones is crushing it!
While the characters are as funny as the ones in Charley Davidson, do not expect the steamy bits we got from that series.
It's entertaining and I'm totally on board with more Sunshine Vicram!

I really like the characters in this world which will keep me coming back. I liked the first book a little better, but this book was enjoyable for me. The graphic sex scene caught me by surprise as up until that point I had felt like this fell closer to cozy than thrilling mystery, but I’m ok with books that cross genres. There is something that is almost over the top in a soap opera kind of way sometimes that does take me out of the story, but I was able to jump back in. Sunshine tries to take a day off which of course does not go well. She finds herself drawn into stabbing, kidnappings, and murders, and between all of those she gets a tip about her own abduction when she was 17. And Auri has her own entry into detectiving which does not go exactly as she planned. This book had plenty of humor, some dark moments, some sad moments and some interesting mysteries. I can’t wait for book 3.

this is a 2nd book in a series. This is a perfect book for audio. the narrator does a great job differentiating between the multiple characters. there are multiple storylines but it is very easy to follow. I never felt lost or had to rewind!! i would consider this story more of drama with a murder rather than a mystery. this book is good when you need something light
