Witchless in Seattle #10

Witch It Real Good

Rate this book
Stevie here, and I’m happy to report we’ve settled into our new lives and found a modicum of peace since our last death-defying incident.

Mostly…

My International Man of Mystery continues to lay low here in Ebenezer Falls until we can sort out his earthbound credentials, but we have a routine and as the holiday season begins, we’re ready to do a little celebrating. In the midst of us adjusting to life together, a surprise visitor shows up, knocking us both for a loop, but for two entirely different reasons.

To make matters worse, my good buddy, Officer Rigid…er, Dana Nelson, has some questions and we’re positive they have to do with Win’s involvement in what’s turned out to be a high-profile case in Seattle. That means we need to get the heck out of Dodge and we need to do it fast to buy ourselves some time to figure out our next move.

While we wrap our heads around our newest predicament in Maine in a beautiful little town that celebrates Christmas three hundred and sixty five days a year called Marshmallow Hollow, we run into bigger trouble than we left when someone tries to kill Win not once, but twice.

And that’s when Win’s past comes back to haunt him, putting us all in danger.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire we go!

New places, new friends, and danger await you as Stevie, Winterbottom and the gang take an unscheduled holiday that brings trouble to their door even as they are trying to devise an escape plan for the trouble awaiting them at home.

The gang is enjoying some surprising news and a visit from an unexpected guest when local police officer & friend, Dana Nelson, shows up. As they feared he has questions regarding Win and the high-profile case from the last episode. Win’s identity is a serious problem and jeopardizing the life they have created in Ebenezer Falls. So what is a witchless witch to do? Accept an offer to visit Marshmallow Hollow, of course!

Witch It Real Good brings answers to the events surrounding Winterbottom’s death and introduces some exciting new characters. I loved Marshmallow Hollow and its inhabitants. A new familiar was delightful, and I hope we see more.

Danger, mischief and talking animals await you in this fun, suspenseful installment. Hollie Jackson once again brings voice to these beloved characters. From tone to unique accents she is a delight to listen to: and only enhances these fun, cozy, paranormal mysteries and the humor that is Dakota Cassidy.

A little more of my literary Twinkie break.

Spoilers from previous stories.
This story had a big dose of good and bad. Let’s start with the good. The continuing plot of this series is focused on two points, the first is deceased warlock, Adam Westfield, who slapped the magic out of Stevie before he died, and he keeps trying to kill Stevie from the great beyond. The second point is who killed MI6 superspy Crispin Alistair Winterbottom?

In Witch it Real Good, Stevie and Win still haven’t figured out what they are going to tell people about Win and who he is. Win, the spy, is officially dead and Balthazar, Win’s twin brother who’s body he snatched, was a criminal with a long, long rap sheet and possible warrants for his arrest. Time is no longer on their side as Officer “By the Book” Dana, who has become a good friend of Stevie, is starting to ask questions.

Just as they are starting to panic, a knock on the door introduces a half-sister to Stevie who lives in Marshmallow Cove, Maine, where it is Christmas time 24/7 365 days a year. Since there is nothing Stevie loves more than Christmas decorations, they decide a trip is in order. Hall is also a witch, and one who actually has magic, so she snaps her fingers and Win, Stevie and all their pets pop over to Maine.

Of course, the first thing that happens is that someone tries to kill Win and then Stevie comes face to face with a woman who has to be Win’s former girlfriend, possible murderer, spy girl Miranda. (All the gin joints in all the world, why did she have to walk into mine.) Really, imagine the chances of that? Okay, snark aside, we will finally get answers to what happened to Win on the night he was murdered? While Stevie is consumed by the green-eyed monster wondering the more important question of if Miranda wasn’t responsible for his death, will Win leave her for his first love?

Yay!! It was great to finally get get some answers, especially when Amazon has this noted as Book 10 of 11. Only one more? Wah! Now the bad part of this story wasn’t so much bad, as annoying. This is not the first time that part of a Witchless in Seattle story was an introduction to a spinoff series, and I did find that Stevie’s sister, Hall, and her town of Marshmallow Cove will be the focus on a new series later this year. The bigger problem I have is that Dakota Cassidy obviously has a formula for her stories which include an awkward romantic lead, a talking familiar and a mystery to be solved. They even both live in a big house on a cliff overlooking water. What are the chances? And if you don’t like paranormal, her Lemon Layne Mystery series just had regular people and a pet monkey (no talking, but he was super clever). I don’t mind a good spinoff but the only thing different from what we are reading now is location and her awkward guy friend isn’t dead at the beginning of the story. I tried the Lemon Layne series but found that I was too distracted by the sameness of that series to this one.

I am still annoyed by the fact that these two love birds are sleeping in separate bedrooms even though they are getting shot at again. Again, I don’t need to watch them have sex if we want to keep it PG but not so much as a passionate kiss or a little snuggling for warmth after two years wait just seems wrong. This ain’t a Jane Austin novel. If we need to keep it family friendly, put a ring on it and let’s get to the alter. These are two people who should not be taking their time. They had two years of get to know each other. What the hell?

4.5 Stars... We finally get the answers we have been waiting for regarding the murder of Crispin Winterbottom and the surprises are many... Readers are taken on a riveting adventure to finally put this mystery to rest... As the past makes one final play for the life of Win, Stevie and friends do all they can to put the pieces of the puzzle together and bring forth the necessary closure for their beloved friend... Told with humor, heart, and a lot of spunk, this addition to the series is yet another fun filled journey with these zany characters that we have all grown to embrace and adore:)

This book is oh so exciting! Stevie finds a new relative and so does Win. When Stevie’s buddy officer Dana saw Win dressed in Stevie’s ugly Christmas sweater Witches Get Stitches (Witchless in Seattle #9) it was almost a matter of time before he puts two and two together and Winterbottom is in trouble. To avoid that and to give them time to come up with a solution they travel to Maine unfortunately trouble (and hilarity) follows. Though this book can be read standalone you will get so much more out of it if you’ve read the earlier books.

Omg a secret sister and the past comes back to hurt the gang. Win, Stevie, Bell and Arcady need to figure out if this surprise sister and the attempts on their lives are related. Seriously the best book in this series so far.

I just can't take it anymore with Stevie and Win supposedly in love but still in an utterly platonic relationship. I've lost all interest in their boring, zero-sparks romance.

DNF.

I was so excited to finally be reading this book. I have been reading the Marshmallow Hollow series and when I read the first book and saw that it was a spin off of this series I was so bummed I hadn't been up-to-date to get them in the intended order. But, now I know the start of things and it was as good as I could have hoped. I didn't miss anything really by reading out of order either!

Hal is a great character and I loved seeing her introduction to Stevie and the gang. Seeing her from Stevie's perspective was interesting and I look forward to more crossovers between their series.

This mystery was unexpected and kept me on my toes, since it revolved around Win's past - something you really didn't think would happen with his inhabiting a new body. But I guess it being his twin's body (even if they had no shared history beyond birth) did lead to that possibility. It was a fun mystery with a fair bit of action, hilarity, and also finally putting to rest some questions from Win's past.

I am PAST ready for some forward momentum on Win and Stevie's relationship though. Like the slow burn was fun but he has a body so let's move forward already! Hope to see it soon.

The narration by Hollie Jackson remains solid. It was interesting to hear the different voice for Hal but it worked well (Hollie Jackson narrates both series, but Hal sounds more like Stevie does in her series). I enjoy this series at 2x speed!

I was honestly expecting to hate this book, considering the title and that I haven't read the last 9 books. The beginning was a little rough and I really don't like Stevie's humor. I also didn't like that 90% of this book is dialogue with the other 10% as actions. However, I found this book to be pretty entertaining. The ending was really griping and satisfying, aside from the silly logic used. All in all, this seems like a fun series, one read for entertainment and not to be taken to seriously.

Okay

First I have questions. How was it possible for anyone to know they where in the town that morning if they transported there by magic? How did they know anything about Stevie at all until the meeting on the street, was it Adam who gave this info out or was there a snitch from Stevie s old coven watching them? I was wonder when they would figure out the how of a look alike that was so obvious from the picture to begin with after knowing no other family members. The ghost was an obvious deduction of eliminations. Great read author.😎

Family tree

A family reunion of sorts, one that really gets out of hand. Family sticks together though it all and in the end justice is served. Our team is stronger than ever and new cast members are added. It is an all revealing episode, fiiled with love & betrayal and surprises.

Oh, my.

Life is pootling on splendidly.

Win is getting around and grumpy spy seems to have left the building.

Things start going off the rails, when Dana tries to have a serious talk to Stevie and she balks at it.

Then Win comes to her, saying some woman wants to talk to her.

From that point of all goes pear shaped.

I adore these books.

Lame. Dialogue, story, and non-existent romance between Stevie and Win. He’s been corporeal for over a year and they barely hold hands. The interjection of Dana in reference to the last book was just really weak.

I'd give it 4 stars except..

.... Miranda's spy code. I mean really!?!?!?!? I won't spoil it and tell you but know I was not happy.

I enjoyed the rest of the book, meeting various family members and a new location.

The magic of a Christmas world is soured by revelations and attempted homicide. The magical blend of tragic and comic in this one really tugs the heartstrings

Review:

Holy Cow! Witch It Real Good was an adventure and delight to read that I couldn’t put down. There are so many plot twists and answers in this book that I highly recommend reading the series in order.

Witch It Real Good takes readers on a journey to Marshmallow Hollow. Stevie and Win are put to the test against unknown threats and Stevie comes through like a champ. All her mini-spy training is paying off!

There are so many new secrets revealed in this book that all I can say is read it and read it fast! According to Dakota Cassidy, readers will be taking more adventures in Marshmallow Hollow in 2020.

I highly recommend the Witchless in Seattle series. It’s fun, the plots keep you guessing, and the characters are delightful. Dakota Cassidy knows how to spin a tale and get readers to come back for more.

As usual, Renee George did a seriously amazing job on the cover art for Witch It Real Good.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
This was a great book !
Stevie and the gang are back.
Win is still in hiding.
They still need to come up w/ a plausible excuse for Win to being alive.
On top of that, Stevie meets a long lost half-sister, Halliday or Hal.
Hal lives in Marshmallow Hollow.
The town celebrates Christmas 365 days a year.
Of course shenanigans follow Stevie no matter where she goes.
Loved the characters + the storytelling !
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can't wait for the next book in this series.
