When I read the premise of One Night in a Storm and the fact that Shay Savage was writing it, I knew the story would be good! How about being stranded with your high school crush and finding out his kink is to tie people up? Not in a serial killer way, of course, but in a kinky I-want-to-dominate-and-give-mind-blowing-pleasure sort of way. This is what happens to Kasinda, and Cree one stormy night. Trapped inside an old library while floodwaters rise, and Kas trying to stay calm while battling fears from a childhood tragedy, Kas happily lets Cree “distract” her.

Oh, I just loved this story so much! I flew through the pages and didn’t want the story to end! It’s not often that I read kink or BDSM/erotica, but when I do, I need it to be smart, seducing my mind instead of just sex, sex, sex. Ms. Savage had the perfect balance for full impact. The buildup was sensual, electric, and wow did it make me feel and my heart race! The connection between Kas and Cree was palpable as they got to know each other, tentative and vulnerable at first, but wow when they let each other in, so hot!

Cree was excellent building anticipation with whispered words, grazing touches, and most of all: honesty between them. Because of that honesty and facing such a dangerous situation together, they built trust rather quickly, and I think you need that for a connection to be truly pleasurable.

Boy was it ever! Can’t wait for the next installment with Casey and Rocco!

A copy was kindly provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

A flooded-out library.
A shibari expert.
An anxious submissive.
If you ever wanted a little intro into the world of Shibari (Japanese rope bondage) then this is your book! A quick summer read that's perfect for the poolside as long as no one is reading over your shoulder! :D

"With the full length of his body pressed to mine, he reaches around and trails the end of the rope over my nipples. I hear him inhale deeply as he runs his nose up the side of my neck, and a shudder runs through my body."

I alternate POV in this book, which is something I rarely do, but thought it was important here. This is the beginning of the Savage Kinksters series, but each book can be read as a stand alone!

Dark night....torrential rain...rising waters and a couple trapped in the public library
The setting is perfect for developing closeness and with nothing else to do, exploration of the senses and bodies is a viable option
"Credence Cord, high school superstar—not.  Jock—not.  Intellectual—not.  Stoner—not.  He wasn’t any of those things.  He hung out on the fringes of all the groups, which is why I liked him.  He didn’t belong, and neither did I"

description

Credence Cord and Kasinda Rhea are trapped in the hurricane waters and as the level rises, so does the passion. What starts out as therapeutic Shibari, soon turns into full on Dom/Sub maiden venture
The story was pretty hot, no doubt. I liked that every tiny step was talked out thoroughly. They just didn't jump in stuff unawares.
"The feeling is difficult to describe.  Each rope feels like a deep, sensual hug.  It feels as if he’s not just binding my body but binding the two of us together."

description

He guides; she follows
He ties; she bends
He cares; she vents
All in all a very good book and my first of Shibari

I went into this story blind. I do that often so no big deal. I like being surprised.

What did I find?

The tired and dangerous notion of BDSM healing past trauma. It's as obnoxious as mag peen or mag vag.

I like how this author tries new things. Maybe next try won't be craptastic

If, like me, you already read and adore all of Shay's work you will not be disappointed with the first in her Kinksters series! And for those of you that haven't read her other work, what are you waiting for? I don't want to give too much away before the anticipated release (tomorrow!) 7/23. One Night in a Storm follows two college students and their journey not only through a massive storm that traps the two in an unusual circumstance, but brings together a friendship with possibly much more to come!

If you are looking for a summer read this is definitely a great place to start! Credence and Kasinda are both very loveable characters that will make you fall for them, and want to learn more about each as the story develops. Cree and Kas each have their own unique story with their own unique perspectives on the world. They are two that seem to learn quite a bit from each other. You as a reader will also learn quite a bit of information about Cree's "hobby"- rope. It really is very fascinating to learn about these techniques through these characters. Cree explains his way through his hobbies and other interests in a way that doesn't make the reader feel like they are being talked down to about things that are outside their knowledge base. It really is all explained in a way that you feel brought into the story and really do learn a lot of information that you are likely not to learn in other stories. You could possibly find some information on YouTube, but.. well, Kas can tell you a little about that ;)

I honestly can't wait for you to get your hands on this book!

The end leaves you wanting more and just knowing this book is the first of the series has me ready for the next one! The story with Cree and Kas; I hope it goes on in future books in the series. I have definitely not gotten enough of these two!!

This one is a 2019 Favourite for me. Absolutely LOVED it!

Shay drew a vivid picture of this young couple stranded in a flooding library in a storm. You could feel the characters anxiety, their connection and their chemistry.

Her imagery was perfection and the understanding & portrayal of shibari and the trust & peacefulness behind it was spot on. I could have read another thousand pages of those scenes.

Sexuality, consent, kink, self awareness - it’s all explored in this story and I cannot wait for more from this world of characters she’s created. Definitely recommend.

I received an arc of this book.

- i was interested in reading this book as (i thought) it primarily focused on shibari and i've never read any kind of romance/smut centered around this, but it ventured late in the book into something that i'm not interested in AT ALL and it was really unexpected, in my opinion. some people might still enjoy this, but it just wasn't my taste and it left me feeling a bit uncomfy :/

Dang this book was hot. Cree and Kas really had this amazing connection and I loved seeing it bloom in which a short time span. It was a very interesting introduction to rope and the erotic art of tying up your partner. From how the author wrote this book it got me all hot and bothered. We get a look at who the next book will about and then hike a fem-don t ally isn’t my think I plan to read it. 4 stars #2OCCJD

Hot, sexy read that will have you hooked from page one. Cree & Kas, I absolutely love their story. Being trapped in a library on a stormy night, you know things are going too heat up. Truly an interesting story and amazing characters that I really enjoyed. I can’t wait for Casey and Rocco’s story next.

It's not too long, around 180 pages, but they are pretty well written and I liked the characters very much. Learned lots about Shibari in the process.

If you are triggered by the idea of consensual non-consent, this might not be a book for you.

For me, it was a hot short read and I enjoyed it a lot. Looking forward to the next one in the series.

I received an ARC of this from the author.

I didn’t know what to expect going into this novel. Okay, well, I had a fairly good idea of the theme, but I didn’t know about the subject matter Shibari. So I went into this novel eyes wide open and willing for anything.

It’s on the shorter side of novels--a bit larger than a novella, but shorter than typical novels. So as a result of this, at first, I wasn’t loving the book. I found that there wasn’t enough character development in this novel. And thus, I was leaning into the 4 star range. But about midway, I remembered what I was reading. In fact, it’s right in the title: Savage Kinksters. From then on, I was loving it and it was such a fun read. So I’m saying to all looking at this novel: it’s a great book, and don’t hate it for what it is not. Love it for what it is. In other words, this is not marketed as some long epic love story, therefore don’t review it as such. (This obviously wasn’t my line of thinking, but you get the point.) It’s a shorter, fun, kinky read that quite honestly was different than other books in the same category.

How, you may ask. The subject matter for one. It wasn’t BDSM; it wasn’t the bondage you’d read about in such books like 50 Shades. Shay introduces a new type of bondage, of rope play, Shibari. It’s something I never personally heard about, and thus I found myself quite entertained for the educational aspect of this. I learned some new things during this read.

The characters were also great. There is Kasinda (Kas) and Cree. They went to high school together so many years ago and have by pure coincidence ended up at the same university, inside the library on the same night to both study. I think the fact that they did know each other for a short while in the past did help with the instant connection between the two. Because rather there be a new instant connection between strangers, they did know each other to a point. Kas even had a crush on him way back when. So there’s a sense of familiarity.

At this point, I’m wondering how the rope play comes into this. When the storm starts and the library gets flooded, and Kas leaves her purse behind, she does down for it because she wants her meds. To help her, Cree used what he had (rope) to get her back to safety. As any normal girl, or person for that matter, does, she questions why he has piles of rope in his bag. Thus the start of the conversation. While she is learning about it and how it is helpful to some, she requests to try it. And then you can see where the rest of it goes.

Another thing I liked was how they did build that trust with the rope first. Since there was an emphasis on how much trust is needed between two people to make it work, this wasn’t at all downplayed in the book. There was a few rounds of it with clothes on, then no clothes, then came the sex. So it wasn’t instant, which is something else not often seen in the genre. So I guess as I write this review, even within the short kinky reads genre, Shay still managed to do it well and add in character connections and a build-up to sex.

Lastly, Cree I found super interesting. He has such a connection to some of the other characters mentioned through the book. As I’m picturing how his future will look here on out with Kas and his friends (you’ll see what I mean), we get a hint of just that. The epilogue of this book sets up the next one. So it’s told in a new person’s POV as she watches Cree bring Kas into the meet up for the first time, along with his friend. Friend + New POV Girl = Next Novel. YES!! I’m so ready for the next book. Consideing the dynamic that Shay has ALREADY built between them, I am so excited for what’s coming. New POV seems to be an interesting character herself and I suspect we’ll see some gender role reversal from what Kas and Cree’s novel has given us.

All in all, I really enjoyed this read. It is a great story to set up the series and a super interesting and new (to me) subject matter. Looking forward to the next one!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

Two university students thrown together in the midst of a raging story. One a Shibari expert, the other an instinctve submissive. As the flood waters rise, so does Kasinda's panic. When she allows Cree to use his expertise to ease her fears, she finds herself healing from the trauma of her past. The floodwaters may soon subside, but their passion for each other is just beginning to grow. Cree may be the rigger, but it's Kas who has his emotions in knots.

This is the first book in the Savage Kinksters. This is a complete novella and each book in this series is going to be a standalone so you never have to worry about their being a cliffhanger at the end of the book. This too is a story about Shibari and if you have ever googled it you know that it is the art of Japanese rope bondage. Shibari is so much more than just to tie somone up with a rope. It is a ture art form. This is also the story of Kas and Cree. Kas has always had a crush on Cree and now they are stuck in a old library because of flooding. To say that Kas is wreck is a understatment. It reminded me of how when I first moved to where we live and it flooded the first time. i was terrified and it took forever for me to calm down. Kas is terrified and there are reasons for that. Can Cree get her to calm down so they can make it through this weather emergency? You have to read and find out. I loved this story. It is a novella and it reads like a complete story. I didnt' close the book with a big old that was all. Nope this one feels like a complete story. I didn't want my time to end with these characters though. I fell so in love with them. Shay Savage is just magical with her writing style. She always transports into the worlds she is creating and I always hate to leave them. However, since this is the first book in this series I am looking forward to seeing what kind of super hot treat we get next. Don't even ponder weather to get this book or not. DO IT. Your going to love every second and oh gosh I almost forgot that this story is told in dual points of view. We don't get that often from Shay Savage but boy oh boy she did a really amazing job.

I Received this Book From Author For Honest Review
I Give this Book a 3 Star Rating.

Romance: 2.5/5
HEA(?): Clearly, but I’ll personally will list it as Stamped, cause I just didn’t believe it.
Suspense: 1.5/5
Drama: 3/5
Heat: 3.5/5

I Love Shibari, heck I love every style of Rope Bondage out there, I was so excited to read a romance book that focused primarily it.
The writing form through half the beginning didn’t meet the usual writing style (to me) of the Author, I didn’t expect the blatantly awkward beginning, and the fact it seemed more like the Author was telling me what type of rope he used and what others use, how it can help people, it’s just seemed more like she’s writing a bdsm romance beginners guide to kinking up your life.

Rather than focusing on the characters themselves in the beginning to nearly 50% especially Cree, cause he just seemed to be talking AT Kas, and was actually talking to the reader...I didn’t like that, don’t treat the reader like a simpleton.
One would hope a potential reader would’ve looked up Shibari first anyways.
It would’ve flowed better if Kas saw or read something even in passing then she could’ve related, than having the ‘BDSM-Rope-Kink-Wiki’ talk with her.
The Talking To the Reader, then the actual character to character convo nearly made me DNF this.
After the 50% it got better as if the author got into a rhythm.
The introduction to the characters was just too..easy and then the flood...It would’ve been better if it was snow, then being locked in would’ve been less ‘scary’ and then having sex would’ve been more understandable, but I guess people would list that as cliche..
The sex Honestly saved this book for me, otherwise I would’ve lowered the rating, I felt like I was reading a teens book by the way they talked at some points.
I personally just didn’t care for Kas, to naive-vanilla-and a tad boring/eye rolling i guess, I just could not connect with her while I read the book.
I wasn’t overly impressed by this book.
That epilogue Also saved this book, I Enjoyed Casey’s POV, definitely looking forward to reading her book very much!

This 3.5 star story was not what I was expecting at all. I’ll give high five to the author for coming up with this creative storyline. Even if I didn’t fully connect with it, it doesn’t mean others won’t.

Cree and Kas get stuck over night in the library. A raging storm outside and raging passion inside.

This story is about a bizarre form of BDSM with ropes. My understanding of the entire thing was scarce at times. Since I had a difficult time with the storyline, I lacked interest. I do have to give high praise to this author about this creativity.

Standalone for now that is told in a dual POV. I would recommend this story.

(4 stars)

When Kas and Cree get stuck in the library during a storm, things take a scary turn and they are forced to the second floor. The two begin to have conversation (of course) and by sort of accident Kas learns what Cree's "hobby" is. The more Kas learns, the more interested she becomes. Will a night in a storm bring these two closer, or will what Kas learns be too much for her to handle?

This was the perfect lunch time read, just long enough to get the story out but not too long. I really liked how everything was explained and not just assumed the reader would automatically know what the BDSM elements were. The naughty bits were so freaking HOT, I am looking forward to the next book in this series! I give this 4 stars.

I'm never disappointed by a Shay Savage book. She delivers on uniqueness, adventure, sex appeal and strong women. Getting stuck in a library during a rain storm turned flood can be scary, but add a Dom that plays with rope and anything is manageable. It's novella sized yet reads like a novel, giving readers the excitement and suspense of being trapped and then the thrill of another new adventure with rope play. Cree and Kas are great multidimensional characters, each with a past and a story to contribute. This is just the beginning of a fun series, next one seems even more intriguing. I wrote my review voluntarily after reading an early copy.

Shay Savage is one of those writers that I see publishing books that I know I will never read and I still say I adore her because she writes in so many different genres and her characters are so crazy and unique that if this book is not my kind of thing, the next one will.

She has written about time travel in which the heroine ends up falling in love with a caveman, a sweet contemporary romance between a neurotypical and a boy with autism, romances about failed scientific experiments, CEO’s and military and the list goes on.

This is a very short story and I cannot tell you how happy I was when I realized it is only the first in a series.

The plot reminds me of Mills and Bloom books, you know the type: a couple of pretty people gets locked up in a situation and decide that they belong together after a couple of hours. In this book, Kas and Cree get stuck together inside a library and are incapable of fleeing because of the flood and rain outside. That is the setting and is solid enough for me.

No one reads these kinds of books thinking they are going to be Nobel worthy literature but I really enjoyed the characters: Cree a psychology student that is into rope play and Kas a pre-med student riddled with anxiety and aquaphobia that decided to give in to a whim and allow Cree to tie her up.

Both characters know what they want and what they are doing and even if they don’t have the most romantic setting what they have is respect and consent between one another.

Shay Savage does not waste our time. she knows how to tell a story and what she is doing but did she really need to destroy hundreds of books in a flood? It actually hurt to read!

It was really obvious that the author made a lot of research into the lifestyle and that she just didn’t use it for her book but that she actually recognized rope play as an art form. I also really liked that she took the time to explain how Cree saw what he did and how he saw his lovers and partners and the respect he had for them even when he did not see them in a sexual way which was really refreshing.

I particularly liked Cree and the way he communicates with Kas: he knows he is not infallible and he does not mind admitting that he is wrong and apologizing but he also does not let her lie or avoid answering when he knows that she is doing it just to not hurt his feelings or because she is afraid he won’t like her answer. It was refreshing to read an adult book without an overbearing man than thinks he is God’s gift to womankind. Also, he makes sure to ask her what she likes and what she wants and go with it.

The entire story is very short and stops in a really sweet spot, with the epilogue being told by Casey, the main charcater in the next book and I’m really excited about her because she is going to be a Dom!

I’m so looking forward to the next one.

2nd Read - 4.75⭐

Credence is a psychology student who loves to learn more about people - what makes them tick, their phobias, and how he can help them. Apart from this, he has a nighttime hobby that he keeps a secret from his "normal" friends and family.

Kas is a biology student who wants to become a brain surgeon. She had a crush on Credence when they were in the same class in high school but did not expect to find him in her college and at the library where she worked.

A storm hits the town, trapping them both late at night in the library with no way to leave. As the night progresses, they delve into topics that might change the way they feel about each other, for better or for worse.

Trigger Warning~ aquaphobia, mentions of agoraphobia, and CNC.

The reason I like this book a lot is because of the way BDSM is explained by Cree to Kas, who doesn't really know anything about it. I love the way different kinks are explained and how Kas tries to understand it in a non-judgmental manner.

The story is fast-paced and the plot is nicely written. The descriptions of the situation they are stuck in, or the way Cree feels about his ropes, they all were explained in such a comprehensible manner, which made me love the writing style of the author.

It is in first-person point of view with both Cree and Kas' perspectives, which enables readers to understand both their thoughts on the events happening around them.

This is a very good book to start with if you like to know more about kink and BDSM.

Talk about steamy! Two former high school classmates end up locked in their college library during a storm. Kas was shy and withdrawn in high school, with a crush on Cree, and still deals with some fears and anxiety. Cree is a psychology major with an affinity for rope. During the storm, Kas’ anxiety spikes and Cree tries to distract her. Well, mission definitely accomplished.

I liked Cree’s explanation of rope and how he views it as both a therapeutic tool and a sexual kink. Kas has some preconceived notions, due in part to her background and lack of experience, but does her best to be open-minded. When Cree suggests using rope to try and distract her from their stressful circumstance, Kas is willing to try. Eventually she has to admit to herself – and Kas – that her fantasies aren’t as innocent as her past experiences might suggest. They’re both attracted to each other, and their current situation as well as the intimacy of rope causes that attraction to grow quickly.

I do need to give a trigger warning, because at some point a rape fantasy is explored. That scene was a bit more difficult to read, but Cree and Kas do discuss it before and after, which helps to clarify and put it into perspective.

As usual with this author, she doesn’t shy away from the less mainstream stories. This definitely was an intriguing and entertaining read.

This book was very steamy. Two college students who attended the same high school get stuck in a flooded college library. No cell phone reception. And a power line fell and electrified the water so they can't swim out.

Heroine has anxiety and is afraid of water. Hero has to fish her out of the water when she goes back for her anxiety pills but luckily he has rope in his backpack. Then she wants to know why he has the rope and is worried he's a serial killer.

He explains he likes "shibari", rope bondage, and what it is. He offers to tie her up to show her and distract her from the rising water. So she tries it and they both really like it.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

He ties her up again a few times and then they "negotiate" and discuss their sexual preferences so they can have sex.

Hero tells her he likes it rough. She says she's willing to try but doesn't know if she'll like it that way.

He wants her to fight him and he wants to pretend to force her. But they are just playing a kinky game. So they act it out and both like it a lot.

They finally get rescued and he tells her he wants to continue to see her. The epilogue is from the point of view of someone else watching them at the local dungeon.

I thought the epilogue was off. I wanted an epilogue from the main characters' point of view so I took off 1 star.

Trashy TV & trashy books are the perfect pairing.

When I came upon Shibari in the précis after first hearing about the practice from Netflix's delightfully BLANK dating reality tv show Too Hot to Handle, I knew I had to read this. And while the novella did a great job of explaining Shibari further, the premise of the plot was as ridiculously sex-fantasy-esque as you'd expect from a self-published work. (Sorry, not sorry.)

In true Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon fashion, With Visions of Red is another contemporary erotica (with thriller elements) that features Shibari, but it managed to tie knots around my heart ♡

CW: for mentions and depictions of PTSD & flood

I couldn’t finish this book. I got halfway to the end and I had to stop. This story revolves around a guy named Cree and a woman named Kas.

There is a storm happening in the story. Cree and Kas knew each other in high school. They are in a library where water is coming in. They are on a higher floor of the library. She left her purse downstairs. Cree had rope in his backpack. He used rope to lift her up. In this story she learned that he is into Shibari. He started talking about typing people up with rope. In this story she asked him to tie her up. Cree started calling her a slut and about having sex with her. He started being mean and stuff. I didn’t want to read the rest. I really wanted to like this book.

It's been a while since i read a Shay Savage book and i missed it !
This quick read was good and interesting. I'm not into Shibari but it was well explained.
I do believe the characters, especially Kas needed more time to really comprehend everything and also maybe to develop more the story.
It was hot and i wanted to know more. I'm curious about the next couple, so i'll definitely come back !
