Was this cheesy? Yes.
Was this entertaining? Also yes. 😅
What can I say? The fake dating trope is my weakness. I definitely cringed while reading this book, but it also took my mind off of stressful life, so I’ll take it. Adds next book in series to Kindle.

(ETA: wanted to note that the main characters are 15.)

Content:
(No Christian content expect for a mention of an answer to prayer & being blessed.)
Very clean. It’s all about dating, though, so of course there’s the PDA and thinking about kissing/kisses (with one semi-detailed kiss at the end and a handful of minor ones in the epilogue). Mentions of being bullied & gossip/rumors. Minor cussing (heck, stupid, suck, etc.); Mentions of hunks and being hot; Some cringey teen talk (& and the meaning of them in the next sentence); Mentions of Taylor Swift, One Direction, & a couple designer brands.

Recommended Age: High school age and older, if the reader is mature enough to handle clean romance.

As most of you who follow me have probably noticed, I haven’t been as active in the book community the past year. For 2020, one of my goals is to get back into reading more. I went through my email and I found I had the opportunity to review this book for the author. Honestly, it sounded just like my cup of tea and would help me get back into reviewing!

I don’t tend to read a bunch of modern day romance. I’m normally more into reading historical fiction or fantasy genres (which yes, they do have romance sometimes), but How to Kiss a Guy in Ten Days was absolutely more amazing than I thought it would be.

Honestly, I was immediately intrigued by Edenvale Arts High School. It was a really well thought out idea. I think it’s really cool that the characters in the story had a school they could apply for if they were going through hard times. I’m already looking forward to discovering more about the school and the students there!

Hannah has a backstory that really has my interest peaked. After all, it is stated in the summary that her father went to jail. It is explained a little more in the story about that specifically, but you’ll have to check that out for yourself. I felt like I could relate with her in many ways, such as her fangirling over a certain thing and love for Star Wars. The author definitely showed Hannah’s struggles every time she wanted to go shopping, especially considering she could not simply afford to buy whatever she wanted any longer. In general, her heart was definitely set on the wrong things, but she does learn to get past some of them.

Seth Sparks was the guy I could relate to the most. Bookworm? Check. Introvert? Check. Don’t draw attention to yourself? Check. It’s not like I have the same reason as he did for trying to keep himself out of the public eye. I honestly know nothing about his family, the Sparks. That only further proves that I should read the rest of the series of books that the author has to offer. I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m incredibly interested in learning more about his family and where the whole series began, if that makes sense.

They had good chemistry. Despite trying to fake date, they found themselves liking each other more than they wanted to admit. I tend to lean away from teenage romances as just watching some of the stuff on TV shows me that people that young aren’t ready for it. However, it was done well in this book and it showed me that not all teen romances are bad. I’d love to see this book (and series) turned into a television show or a film series. It totally brought me back to my younger days of loving The Saddle Club show, which might seem odd because they’re nothing alike.

General content warnings include romance (duh), which includes kissing, touching, thinking about the person their attracted to, et cetera. Honestly, if you don’t like romance, probably don’t touch this book then. Otherwise, I think it’s perfect for someone looking for a great read if they’re mature enough to read it. Say, maybe fifteen-ish could be a good age since the characters are around that age anyhow.

I’m already looking forward to book two of the Evendale Arts High School series already. I’m definitely liking the idea of a certain couple happening in the future. I was already loving their interactions. Plus, I need more Liam. He is such a good guy character. I recommend this book for lovers of romance!

Such a delightful YA romance! Liwen Y Ho always writes fun and clean contemporary romance and I’m so happy that she’s venturing into YA world with Brandon and Brie Spark’s son Seth. Even if you haven’t read the Spark Brothers series, you will enjoy this book as we fast-forward in time to watch Seth enter a new high school and experience his passion for dance and his first love. If you have been following the Spark brothers, you will cherish seeing Brandon again as a father of two and growing up with the next generation of Sparks.
The storyline is fun, the setting and atmosphere are charged with energy, Seth is incredibly sweet and vulnerable in his tenderness, and Hannah is quite likable though their friendship starts on a false premise on multiple levels. I can’t wait for Liam and Ava’s (Hannah’s brother and her best friend) story!

I received a copy of the book from the author and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

Liwen Ho is a new author for me. I thought this was a fun read, good for teenagers or readers who enjoy YA. Both characthers are sweet and can relate well to each other. I felt the writing was strong and had me feeling the feels and relating to each of the main leads, but most of all to Seth.

Hannah’s ex broke up with her and her father went to jail. Her friend Ava spots Seth and wrangles him into their plan to make Hannah’s ex jealous. Seth finds Hannah attractive and decides he will help her out.

I skimmed and skipped most of this story. 1. It’s too young for me. 2. I wasn’t a fan of the writing style. Just wasn’t me.

I love YA but this felt too young for me, it felt like something for middle school. A lot of the lines felt very cringey to me that I couldn't enjoy it as much. I liked the plot enough

How you fall in love in 10 days!!!!

https://ladiikeiii.wordpress.com/2020...

***splash spoilers all through this review***

I enjoy this book. I realize that this book is new. I was glad I liked it and can't wait for the next book to come out with Ava (Hannah) best friend and her (Hannah) brother Liam. I agreed with Seth at the end because she knew something might be going on between Ava and Liam. & Hannah denied it... I can't wait until she sees that Seth was right & I hope she'll be happy for both her best friend and brother.

Not only that, I liked how she (Hannah) and Ava befriended Seth... unlike everyone else. Besides Nolan..., I did wonder if he and Seth ever talk again. Because I felt regardless of him learning who Seth'sSeth's family was. If he were a REAL friend, he would've heard Seth out.

You could tell Seth got embarrassed about a lot of things and didn't like all the attention! Before everyone knew he was related to the founders of the school and afterwards. At least Ava, Liam, and Hannah. Continue being friends with him regardless of who he was related too. Because everyone else only talked to him and ask about his family. They didn't want to get to know him as Ava & Hannah did. Even Liam knew that Seth was a good person, even though in the beginning, he assumed that Seth wasn't Hannah type, and he didn't socialize with the likes of their kind since he was related to famous people.

But in the end, I believe Liam figured out that Seth wasn't a bad person. Since he realizes after what happened at the mall. Seth push away from Hannah! What also sucked was when her (Hannah) ex-boyfriend tried to use her to get into Hollywood because she new the nephew of the Sparks... I was glad when she told him off and found Seth waiting for her at the entrance...

Btw: I felt like Nolan needs a story too. I don't know why! If not, it's still cool without one for him. But after swiping left a couple times. I was glad to learn that Nolan "will show up in all of the Edenvale Arts High School books and will have his own story in book #5."

Not only that, I was glad that Seth got to talk with DNA dad Richard like he stated in the book. I was glad that he got closure. I believe all children/adults/teenagers need closure when they have a dead beat for a mom or dad!!!

Sweet but bumpy ride

This seems better suited for a younger audience than YA - more like jr high to maaybe early high school.

It's a well constructed story with likeable characters, but has a rather sedate pace & spends a lot of time in the protagonists' heads.

I really liked the idea of a performing arts high school, like in "Fame", but was disappointed that the story didn't really do much with it.

Some of the plot points that bugged me:
Hannah & Ava hung out with Seth initially to make use of him as a fake boyfriend, so they were using him too just in a different way.

It made no sense that Hannah & Ava virtually stopped communicating with Seth after the situation was altered. They weren't shy about asking him to be a fake boyfriend - if they liked him, they certainly would have invited him to continue eating lunch with them. That made it look even more like they had just been using him.

***SPOILER***
Hannah's wanting to dump Brad in person at the dance only made sense for a more dramatic plot point at which to insert Seth to the rescue. A real Hannah would've been more likely to go with Seth & given Brad an eat-your-heart-out attitude.
***END SPOILER***

And whatever happened to Seth's friendship with Nolan after everything?

I'll probably try another book by this author, but an adult one like her Spark series instead of continuing with this one

*Clean romance level: sweet kisses, nothing graphic

A sweet and funny high school romance

This is the first Young Adult book author Liwen Ho has written. But I have enjoyed many of her other stories so it wasn't a stretch to think I would like this one.

How to Kiss a Guy in Ten Days is a sweet and funny high school romance. I liked that they were only sophomores. For some reason, that seemed just right.

Seth was the sweet, insecure-but-handsome nephew of the founders of the Fine Arts school he now attended. He tried really hard not to let anyone know who he was. And after his disastrous experience with bullying at his previous school, he was so ready for this change!

I liked Hannah, too. She had been hurt, not only by the aftermath of her father's crime but also by her boyfriend when he dumped her. She still had a sweet innocence that made her very likable as a character.

Lovers of Young Adult fiction will want to be sure to read this story.

I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.

Seth + Hannah’s ‘fake’ relationship

I love this cast of characters: Seth, Hannah, Ava, Liam, even the different adults in the story. (And some of them even have their own written stories 🙀, I’m definitely going to have to read about the Sparks brothers later on)

Our story is about a girl (Hannah) who has fallen out of favor amongst her ‘friends’ due to her father’s scandal and their loss of money. And one of these people is her boyfriend, but she hasn’t heard anything from him since they talked last. When they agreed to have a break. Now Hannah is at a new school with new friends who actually talk to her instead of talk about her behind her back.

Ava is a funny and great friend for Hannah. When Ava hears about how Hannah’s boyfriend is acting and that she wants to get back together with him, Ava comes up with a plan.

In comes Seth, new boy at school and someone who Ava deems the perfect candidate to be Hannah’s fake boyfriend. Someone who can make the boyfriend jealous.

At first, Seth is shocked by the proposition, after all these are the first people he speaks to at his new school. That and he finds Hannah to be beautiful and interesting, which renders him a bit speechless.

But he as he starts talking to the girls, he decides that he wants to help her (especially since he understands having a father with a scandal that affects their kids, and like I mentioned earlier, he is interested in Hannah). He agrees to pretend to be Hannah’s boyfriend and accompany her to a dance that her currently on break boyfriend will also be attending…with another girl.

So begins the fake relationship practice, lead by none other than Ava😂. I think that was one of my favorite parts of this story because it was so funny with Ava trying to guide them, and both of them trying to not be awkward with each other.

Get ready to enjoy people who like the arts, a meddling best friend, a meddling brother, and the start of new things. 💞

Do you love the innocence and beauty of a first love—the excitement of holding hands and the thrill of a first kiss? I do. I wish we could hold on to those big first feelings forever. I wasn’t sure whether or not I would enjoy this YA genre but I loved Liwen Ho’s Spark Brothers series and this new series is a spin-off so I decided to give it a try. I’m so glad I did!

This is the story of Hannah, one of the most popular girls at a high school for the performing arts, and Seth Spark, stepson of Brandon Spark (a popular romance writer.) Seth had a painful childhood and it was made more difficult because of his sensitive heart and introvert tendencies. It was fun to see him as a 15 year old teenager coming into his own, developing his talents, and slowly gaining a little confidence. And Hannah, although beautiful, charming and talented had been dealt a serious blow when her dad went to jail for committing a white collar crime and she lost her status in her country club community. She had to leave her expensive private school, move to a modest neighborhood which her mother had to work two jobs to afford, and she was rejected by Bradley, her old boyfriend. She and Seth met at her new school and she asks him to agree to pretend to be her boyfriend so she can teach Bradley a lesson. It’s a familiar trope but I love the fresh spin the author uses to make the story engaging and fresh. I loved it and look forward to reading all of the books in this series! Highly recommend!

How To Kiss a Guy in 10 Days was such a sweet read! It's been forever since I've read a YA book that tugged at my heartstrings and made me root for both MCs. Seth and Hannah were just so cute together, and even though we had previously met Seth in his dad's book (A Sudden Spark), it was fun to see him after a few years had passed since then, and with struggles of his own. Of course, Hannah was just perfect for him, but what I liked the most was their friendship and how quickly it developed (yeah, with a title like that, you've already been warned, lol).

Seriously, there were so many things I loved about this book: not only getting to see some of the Sparks again #fangirling but for this spin-off series to be a clean YA set in a performing arts school (how cool is that?). I also liked Hannah's best friend, Ava (never a dull moment with her), as well as Hannah's overprotective older brother, Liam, and can't wait to see them again in the next book in this series.

Also, how cool are the titles of the other books in this series #amiright? And those covers... 😍💕
So, yeah, I think the author may have found a new genre that suits her, and I definitely can't wait for the rest of this series ;)

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This is such a fun and sweet story to read. It was delightful to reconnect with all the Spark family characters from this author’s other series. I loved how we now are into the next generation.
The author wrote about some common issues that teens deal with these days. Teens have so many things thrown at them, and sometimes it can be overwhelming. Things like low self-esteem, wanting to be accepted for who you are, and needing to NOT have your past be what people see.
I truly enjoyed getting to know Seth and Hannah and their sidekicks! The whole “fake boyfriend” was fun to read.
Now I can’t wait to read the next book with Ava and Liam’s story.
I have come to really enjoy reading books written by Liwen Y. Ho because her writing is smooth and the story flows with wonderful characters and dialogue. I had a problem with not wanting to put this book down. It truly was enjoyable! I was truly caught up in the story and didn’t want it to end.
The relationships with friends and families are so real. When we can put ourselves in the characters’ lives and understand the pains and joys, that is what makes a book great! This author has done that!
If you like tender stories of love, friendships, and overcoming self-issues, then this is a book you will want to read.
This is a wonderful book to read, I highly recommend you pick it up!

I really liked how this book tied into the Sparks Brother's series which was one of my favorite series by Liwen Y. Ho. Seth is the stepson of Brandon Sparks and he attends Edenvale Arts High School owned by his aunt and uncle, Evan and Emma Sparks.

This was a sweet book of awkward, young love that started out as a planned, fake relationship to make an old boyfriend of Hannah's jealous. What happened instead is a cute story of teenage angst. Both Seth and Hannah are fun characters that I really liked. They seemed to have a lot in common. I liked that Seth had a chance to reunite with his real father. I also liked that Hannah had a chance to reevaluate her relationship with her old boyfriend and see him for who he really was. She was finally able to see him as her family saw him. All of this was because of the nice way that her fake boyfriend, Seth treated her. I look forward to reading the next book in this new series. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

This book was a lot of fun to read. It’s energetic, emotional, and different from other books that I have read. I love how the characters grow throughout this novel and learn that while life may be bad, there is always some good. The characters were easy to imagine. I liked how the past was explained but didn’t take up the majority of the story.

The story follows Seth and Hannah. Hannah’s life was turned upside down when her father went to jail for a scandal. Her friends and boyfriend distanced themselves from her. They moved into a smaller house after selling most of their stuff. Her mom had to work hard to make ends meet. Seth’s father also was in jail. But time passed and his mom remarried to an amazing man. On his first day of school, Ava, Hannah’s best friend, calls him over to be Hannah’s fake boyfriend to get her real boyfriend jealous. But they both start having feelings for each other after some time.

I wrote this voluntary review in exchange for an ARC copy.

Enjoyed a lot but...

I enjoyed the book and really enjoyed the plot. I haven’t read books by this author before but I enjoy sweet romance so I will check out her Spark series for sure. The general plot has of course been done before: be my fake boyfriend to get back at my ex (well not quite ex in this case but a cheating boyfriend). The journey was really good though and showing the characters falling for each other. I thought the idea that each other missed cues was absolutely authentic, especially for teen characters. Here was my struggle though, I felt the voices of the leads weren’t different enough. I felt the male lead sounded too feminine, too much like the female lead. It bothered me enough that I felt it needed 4 stars instead of 5. That all said, I have preordered book 2 and really look forward to others in the series.

This is a very sweet high school first love story. I loved each of the characters. They each have great personalities but also have real life problems. Dealing with the stress of life and being a teenager is a tough time in life. These kids have the opportunity to attend a school for the arts. They get to learn in the art they love dance, singing, drama etc.

The plan for Seth to be a fake boyfriend to Hannah is written just right. Ava, Hannah's best friend, is helping them look like a real couple. Which is pretty funny because she makes a list of what to do to look like they are really dating.

I look forward to reading the next book in the series of this fresh young love series!

Three and a half stars

If you have a teen who likes romance, then this is a sweet and worry-free read.

The Insta-romance was a bit troublesome for me, but the title kind of gives away the timeline so that shouldn't be surprising and probably the author's way of hinting to the reader that the romance moves quickly.

The main characters are very sweet and I like the performing arts school setting. There were moments when I'd forget whose point of view I was reading because Hannah and Seth's voices sounded similar at times.

There are so few truly clean YA romances in the market these days. So bravo to the author for meeting that need in the market. Based on the sweet and clean themes in this book, I would highly recommend this author for teenagers.

Ah-young love and teenage angst.

What a great offshoot for the Sparks series. Seth has been adopted into the Sparks family, but he’s not sure he likes all the attention that comes with it. Both Seth and Hannah go to Edenville Academy for the Arts, a small school where everyone knows everyone. When her family life fell apart when her dad got caught doing insider trading and went to prison, she felt like she lost everything, her friends, boyfriend, home, lifestyle and school. Seth was a way to make her boyfriend jealous but that changes quickly, the pda they had to practice didn’t hurt either. YA isn’t my preferred genre, but Liwen Ho makes going back to high school fun and enjoyable.

A dancer and a singer, what could go wrong?

It’s great when a couple of people truly “get” each other. That’s Seth and Hannah. They never guessed how easy it would be to be together. They never knew how the sparks could fly. I loved checking in with the Sparks Brothers, too. How to Kiss a Guy in Ten Days is a well written book. Liwen Ho drew me in from the beginning and I wanted to stay. Seth and Hannah are well developed characters who I like a lot. The conflict is realistic. And the chemistry is perfect.

Seth feels awkward and shy, but when given the opportunity to fake a relationship with Hannah, he’s thrilled to be starting classes at a new school.
Hannah is adjusting to a new life where her father is in prison, her mom works two jobs, and all of her friends have abandoned her, even her boyfriend.
A sweet story about the “spark” of first love and finding out what is truly important in the one you should choose to share a kiss with. I received an ARC of this book and am leaving a voluntary review.

This is a sweet YA romance. I really liked Seth and Hannah. Seth has a reserved personality but you can’t help instantly liking him. Hannah is unsure of what she wants and the reader feels for her. Ava and Luke are great side characters. I think they are getting a story of their own. Seth parents and Hannah’s mom are like able and add a nice family feel to the story. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others.

How to Kiss a Guy in 10 Days by Liwen Y. Ho is a funny high school romance story. This is a story that is YA or early high school. While reading this you will remember all the feels from your first love, kiss and being young again. It was a very quick read. Ms. Ho wrote a cute and fun story which drew me right in, making me forget everything else and did not let me go until I turned the last page. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.

Not just dancing

Seth is the very new guy at school, so why is that cute redhead waving him over? Hannah is desperate. After her long time boyfriend dumped her, she needs a new guy right away. A guy to make Bradley so jealous, he will come back to her. But what happens when her feelings for the pretend boyfriend become all too real? Difficult family situations keep this story real, and much more than just a teen romance.

What a sweet, not candy-coating YA read. Sincere characters with real-to-life conflict, angst, drama, issues, heartaches, and insecurities, but where hope and perseverance reign and lead us to a satisfying and lovely conclusion.

Love, love, loved this book! I loved the real emotions both Hannah and Seth struggled with. Cuz they were only playing a part, right!? The high school innocence, the over-protective big brother...I almost screamed with excitement when Seth got on Liam’s good side! I was on the edge of my seat the whole book! Very well written. 5 stars!
