Inherit Love #5

Lucky Inheritance

Rate this book

When Clarissa Kelly inherits an Irish castle, there’s only one thing standing in her way – the devilishly handsome man living there.

Ian

Wildheath Castle is rightly mine.
No one on earth cares more about that beautiful relic than me.

I've been the caretaker for the past five years, and the old man promised he'd leave it to me.

Now his American granddaughter has come all the way to Ireland to usurp me.

But I’ll not let that lass outfox me, no matter how badly I want to press her against the wall and give her a proper welcome…

Clarissa

Right away I know Ian O'Brien is trouble.

With those flashing eyes as green as the countryside, and his nature—as hard and unforgiving as the rocky Irish cliffs—the man is intense.

And for some reason he expects me to just hand over the keys to my birthright.

Yeah, that’s not happening.

Because, where I come from, possession is nine-tenths of the law.

So I'm moving into the castle with him, and
I’m not leaving...

y doblegarme.

No importa cuánto me distraiga con esos labios carnosos y provocativos,
o lo lindo que sea ese hoyuelo en su mejilla izquierda, ella no me quitará MI
castillo.

When Clarissa Kelly, a costume designer on Broadway, inherits an Irish castle that has been in her family for 300 years, her grandfather’s solicitor drives her there. However, he didn’t bring the key along since he expected to have the door answered by the man who has been living there, Ian O'Brien, the handyman who has been taking care of the castle for years. Clarissa acknowledges that Wildheath Castle is charming, but everywhere she looks, she sees that work needs to be done.

When Clarissa and Ian have to go to the solicitor’s office for the reading of the Will, Clarissa is in for a big surprise. The solicitor, Ivan, began reading: “Wildheath will be left to any couple from the Clan Tomaltaigh and Clan Neill, who must involve themselves in a fruitful marriage—”. She immediately stopped him to sputter and ask him to repeat since she wasn’t sure she heard it right. Ian snarkily told her she would have to marry him or his sister to get the castle, which was not what he had expected either. Her grandfather had told Ian he was giving the castle to Ian, but did not mention he had to marry Clarissa to claim ownership! Apparently there was a long-running feud between their families that went back generations. Her grandfather had tried unsuccessfully to bring them back together -- this was his final attempt to end it and make peace. If they don’t marry, the castle will go to a charity he has picked. So now what? Both of them will have get over their differences. Can they?

Painful truths come out of this awkward situation Ian and Clarissa find themselves in as each points out the other’s failings. But if they can’t forgive and accept each other, if they can’t see the good in each other, they will lose their inheritance – and gain nothing. What will they ultimately decide?

When Clarissa’s Grandfather passes away she heads to Ireland believing that she has inherited the castle that has been in her family for generations only to find out that it has been left to her and Ian and the only way that the castle doesn’t go to charity is if they marry.

Ian has not only been looking after the castle but her Grandfather as well. He moved there to escape the most painful time of his life and found a home and a sense of belonging and isn’t about to just give it up without a fight.

Hot chemistry, great characters with just enough angst to keep things interesting. I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook and thought the narrators were a perfect choice for the story. 🎧 Audiobook Obsession

Lucky Inheritance by McKenna James is a contemporary romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Patricia Santomasso and Patrick Hopkins.

This is the first book of McKenna’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. I absolutely loved Ian and Clarissa’s story.

Patricia and Sean did an amazing job on the narration. They really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their projects in the future.

Audio Review: Lucky Inheritance (Inherit Love) by McKenna James (author), Patricia Satomasso (narrator), Sean Patrick Hopkins (narrator)

Hopkins and Satomasso are quite a pair. From heart palpitations to the ever present frustration, they refused to hold back on the chemistry. Their delivery is flameworthy. McKenna James dishes out the emotions with her ever present flair and as always I was easily hooked. Lucky Inheritance sets emotions ablaze with passion, heart and humor.

Oh my goodness, this book is so darn good, it is a light read which is easy to follow and really enjoyable. I love the fact that it never gets into any heaviness in the writing and you can flow from page to page really easily. To save the castle they need to marry or the castle will be handed over to a developer who intends to knock it down. It takes a little while for them to get to the married state, but they get there in the end. Another really great book from this fabulous author and hey you have to have her books in your Kindle library as you can always read them over and over again.

This was cute. Predictable and not quite as sexy as I wanted it to be. Kind of wish some of the development had been deeper, as overall I enjoyed the characters.

It was a cute read, but a very under developed story line. I felt the premise was great but the plot was lacking and felt rushed at times. There were lots of continuity errors that the editor missed as well. There were parts that also didn’t make sense (a layover in Hawaii for a flight from Ireland to New York?). Basic research, a good editor, and fleshing out the plot would have made this book really good

Had potential

This book had some serious potential yo be a great book, but it was incredibly stilted and rushed. Fantastic premise, but there wasn't a lot of character development or story development. It was like it jumped from major plot point to major plot point with out any continuity or explanation.

Clarissa finds out that her estranged grandfather has passed away. She flies to another country to find out what happened and what to do with his belongings. There she meets Ian, who's been living at the castle her grandfather owned. They instantly dislike and distrust each other. They were content to find out what was in the will and go their separate ways. Neither of them was prepared to hear the stipulation they were given. They only way they would be able to claim their inheritance is to marry each other.
I read this in one sitting. Well listened to it in one sitting would be the more accurate wording for it, but I digress. I find that I really love any stories that have to do with Ireland at all. Especially the ones full of sassy characters. I just can't get enough of a sassy character! I can't even begin to explain that. Ian's sister was my favorite character in the whole book. She was just so vibrant and full of life! She'd be the person you'd just instantly like even if you didn't really warm up to people right away.
There were a few tropes in here that I haven't ever cared for. They were eye-roll inducing. They didn't really ruin the story for me. The biggest problem I had was that a conflict kept getting peppered in the story, but it wasn't really fully closed. I kept hoping for a nugget of information in the epilogue, but it wasn't mentioned at all. I was kind of invested in the drama behind it. I wanted to see how it all played out. Well, how it crashed and burned to put it bluntly.
This book was narrated by Patricia Santomasso and Sean Patrick Hopkins. They both did a very fantastic job. I do wonder if Hopkins is actually Irish. His accent is very dreamy. Not that I'm going to fixate on that. Much. I feel like Santomasso's voices for both of the leading female characters were pretty amazing. It strikes me how hard it must be for narrators to have conversations between the characters and maintain voices for each one. Both of these narrators did an excellent job with that. I was very impressed. I will listen to other books narrated by them.
I thought this was going to be a stupid cheesy romance. Like predictable to the end. I won't lie, in many ways it was. However, it wasn't in a horrible way. It still had its own unique spin that I really enjoyed. I found out that this is book five in a series. I haven't read the first four books. Those who know me know that this is bothering me a little. It is a standalone novel. So I didn't really miss anything by not reading the first four. I'm still going to go back and read them anyway. I may even reread this book in the future.

I purchased and listened to the audiobook of LUCKY INHERITANCE, a Contemporary Romance - Enemies to More, Marriage by Convenience novel.

MY RATING GUIDE: 2 Stars. (I do seem to be in the minority. Others enjoyed LI).

1= dnf/What was that?; 2= NOPE; NOT FOR ME; 3= This was okay/cute; 3.5= I enjoyed it; 4= I liked it a lot; 5= I Loved it, it was great! (I seldom give 5 Stars).

LUCKY INHERITANCE simply wasn’t the book for me. I didn’t connect with or care about the female main character, at all. (Even in the last 30 min I wasn’t sure she was worth Ian’s effort or care).

Clarissa, a NYC costume designer, age 25 inherits her grandparents’ family home, Wild Heath Castle an hours drive from Dublin. The last time Clarissa was in Ireland, was 19yrs ago. Yet she has big plans for the castle. But at the reading of the will, Clarissa discovers inheriting the property won’t be that simple. She must marry a total stranger to keep it. Enter Ian, the castle’s handyman and her grandfather’s only friend since the death of his wife, a good number of years earlier.

Comments ~
1) LUCKY INHERITANCE is a modern day Marriage by Convenience story.
2) The readers Sean Patrick Hopkins (Ian) and Patricia Santomasso (Clarissa) were great! Sean’s voice was particularly swoon-worthy.
3) Unfortunately, I simply didn’t like the female main character, at all. She came off as a self-absorbed, unlikable drama queen. I found her attitude and behavior frequently immature. There was also an unwillingness to communicate between Clarissa and Ian - just a lot of blaming and mind reading (guessing), especially on Clarissa’s part. Ugh.
4) The book cover art is attractive. It caught my attention and Ian sounds much like he looks. (I thought he deserved someone nicer).
5) Although I didn’t care for this book, LUCKY INHERITANCE might be enjoyed more by:
> Younger readers (closer to the female character’s age than me).
> Readers who are okay with emotional highs and drama between the characters.
> Readers who enjoy novels with the story’s conflict created between the characters, ending with a HEA (rather than the conflict coming from outside the characters’ relationship, as in Romance Suspense or Proximity/Danger novels).

READER CAUTION ~ Not recommended to YA readers or to those who prefer Clean fiction.
VIOLENCE - Minimal. One fisticuffs.
PROFANITY - Yes. Strong language is used.
SEXUAL SITUATIONS - Yes. Open door intimacy occurs (twice?) in the latter half.

A little something extra in the will

Lucky Inheritance by the writing duo of Mckenna James is a sweet and fun story about a young American woman who inherits the family castle, Wildheath Castle, in Ireland when her grandfather dies. There is a catch though because the old man had also promised the same castle to Ian O'Brien, the onsite handyman who has been there for years. But when the will is read there is an even bigger surprise in store for the two of them. It seems the old man has pulled a "blarney" and put a little something in the will in order to inherit Wildheath. The only way for either of them to inherit is to get married and have a child, after all that is what "fruitful marriage" meant by the crazy old man. If they don't then a lovely charity will get the castle and both of the are SOL. So now the question is can they do it and what happens when they do?

This is a cute story with an interesting story-line and a some fun characters, including some of the supporting which were hilarious. My only issue is the length of the book as at times the story did drag on and I found myself skimming ahead. But otherwise I did enjoy the book and would recommend it to other readers.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

Looking for a fun, feel good romance? Look no further! McKenna James takes us on a vacation in an Irish castle! Clarissa has arrived at the castle to settle her grandfather’s estate. Though she didn’t know him well, she has good memories of the castle and is excited for her inheritance. What she doesn’t realize is she isn’t the only one who will benefit. Caretaker to her grandfather, Ian too inherits the castle. and yes, there is a stipulation! The two must marry! Will it work? Should they do it? Can they be friends, married on two continents? McKenna writes with a flirty flare, bouts of humor and steamy passion. Ian’s sister is a hoot and the visual descriptions of the country are incredible! This is a great escape with wonderful characters and a fantastic story!

The dual narration brings it all to life. Patricia Santomasso is perfect as Clarissa. She nails the accent for the Irish characters and gives us all the emotions Clarissa experiences. Sean Patrick Hopkins is new to me and I loved him! What a great Irish brogue! He is Ian!! These two are an amazing team and really enhanced the story!

Lucky Inheritance was a light, easy read and I enjoyed this marriage of convenience story, which was fun and sweet and held my interest from start to finish. I loved the main characters Ian and Clarissa, who had intense chemistry from the start and I enjoyed watching them fall in love. There were a couple of secondary characters who provided great support and balance to this couple and I must mention Ian's sister who added a certain amount off hilarity to the story. The novel was humorous, steamy, emotional and well-written and I would highly recommend it to all lovers of marriage of convenience romance.
The audiobook version was narrated by Patricia Santomasso and Sean Patrick Hopkins. These were two new to me narrators but I enjoyed listening to them. Their voices were clear and understandable and they had great pace and timing. They did an excellent job with the narration adding the Irish accent where needed and it was a pleasure listening to them narrate this novel.

McKenna did a good job with this book. Enjoyed reading it. Ian lives in Ireland in a Castle as the care taker. While there he takes care of the owner of said Castle. The owner happens to be the grandfather of Clarissa. Clarissa lives and works in NY. She has not been to the Castle in 19 years. Not even to visit. When her grandfather passes he leaves in his Will the Castle to Clarissa & to Ian. In order to get the Castle they must marry. Neither one are having that.
One thing leads to another, they get married but only for convenience to keep the Castle or so they thing it's for convenience. Clarissa moves back to NY thinking moving away will lesson her feelings. Her feelings only become stronger being so far away from Ian. Ian has different plans nut in the long run they come together in the Castle.

Clarissa has been estranged from her grandfather for years, but her best memories is the one summer she spent in Ireland when she was a child. Thinking that she was going to spend a few days to sort out the family property turns out to be a whole new adventure. Ian, grumpy and alone he is prepared for the wrath from the only living relative of the castles owners, but never imagined that his gaining the property would come with an American. I liked the storyline and characters, the world building was very through, and bringing together estranged family was really heartwarming. Why I didnt give 5 stars is because the timeline in the book continually was off and it became very confusing. Other than that a good story with a HEA.

Clarissa travels to Ireland after almost 20 years for her grandfather’s will lecture.
The surprise for her is to find out that her grandfather left her the castle to her and to Ian, the handyman who for the last years has been taking care of the castle and her grandfather. But it is more. If they want to inherit the castle they will have to marry.😂😂😂. ❤️the scene.
At first they don’t take it seriously until a developer tells them his plans to demolish the castle if they don’t go through with it.
The castle is what saved Ian after losing the love of his life Miranda.
So they decide to get married, a fake marriage bc Clarissa wants to come back to her former life in NY.
But little by little both begin to develop feelings although they don’t say it out loud.
Being apart makes them realize how in love they are and what they really want for the future.

Surprises

Clarissa flies from the states to Ireland for the reading of her grandfather's will. She thinks that she is going to inherit his Castle and she has plans for it. Ian who worked for her her grandfather was told by him that he was going to inherit the Castle, so when Clarissa shows up he's irritated that she thinks she deserves anything, she hadn't seen her grandfather since she was six years old.
The grandfather played matchmaker in the will, both Clarissa and Ian would inherit the Castle only if they married each other within a certain amount of time. If they didn't fulfill the terms the castle and land would be donated to a charity.
Throughout the book there were a lot of funny antic that happen and some serious times too. But it was definitely a romcom story.

(Ian & Clarissa): OMG, I TOTALLY LOVED THIS BOOK. I'm totally here for the enemies to fake wife to lovers deal MJ has going on here. Clarissa is in Ireland for the reading of her grandfather's will. When she arrives at the castle her family owns she finds a man, Ian living there. Ian used to work for her grandfather and he was promised the castle upon the old man's death. So it was quite the surprise that the will has a little something different in store for these two. These two are hilarious together. MJ has written amazing comedic banter between the characters. Though it's not all fun and games, both Ian and Clarissa have extremely sad backstories which kind of makes them a perfect match. The love scenes are unbelievably hot and shows just how much chemistry the two characters have. Just a beautifully written book. I can't wait to jump back into the series.

This book presents the reader with a charming romance between Clarissa Kelly, a costume designer who inherits an Irish castle which has been in her family for centuries, and Ian O’Brien, who was promised the castle by Clarissa's grandfather prior to his death. They both reside in the castle together until the solicitor reads her grandfather’s will. When the will is read, both Ian and Clarissa are shocked to find they must wed in order to keep the castle as her grandfather wanted to end a long-running feud between their families. This book is a great read with well developed characters and a plot with surprises, humor, strong emotions, and steamy chemistry.

Lucky Inheritance is book five in the Inherit Love series and my first from this author. I was so pleasantly surprised by just how entertained I was with this story. Clarissa inherits a castle yet the caretaker refuses to let it go. Their banter, their wit, their flaws and their determination to work together to save the castle from being demolished makes for a fun and entertaining time. The story is also charming and the characters are engaging especially Ian the caretaker. Overall a wonderfully lighthearted story with narration by Patricia Stanomasso and Sean Patrick Hopkins that kept you wanting more and eating that fairytale ending. Would definitely recommend this audiobook.

In order to inherit her grandfather’s home in Ireland Broadway costume designer Clarissa has to marry Ian or it will be given to a charity that plans to demolish it. They get off on the wrong foot from the start, but she keeps missing her flights home which must have been sign to give a fake marriage to try. They are pressured by the charity to prove that the marriage is real adds to their insecurities about their relationship. I loved Ian’s spunky sister Lucy who works on bringing them together. I thought Clarissa’s job was cool, but her boss was too demanding. I loved the idea they had for what to do what the inherited property. This was a sexy marriage of convenience Irish romance.

I read this book on my lazy Sunday afternoon and loved the sweet romantic story. This author did a great job weaving the story and the romance throughout and well as giving all the characters depth. Clarissa must go to Ireland for the reading of her grandfather's will. As she arrives, she meets Ian, the man who not only takes care of the castle she will inherit, he took care of her grandfather before he passed. Ian and Clarissa both think they are the ones to inherit the castle, but they soon find out that there is a requirement they must meet before either of them can inherit the castle. Read to find if the luck of the Irish is on their side.

Who wouldn't want to find out that they have inherited a castle? But what if it came with certain limitations?
1. You aren't the only one that will take ownership.
2. You have to be in a committed relationship with that other person- very committed.
3. You just met him yesterday.
4. If you don't want to comply with these rules, the castle will be torn down, and all the history here will be lost forever, no big deal.

What would you do? Go back to your job as a costume designer on Broadway in New York or stay in Ireland with the hot caretaker and co-owner of the estate? Think fast, the clock is ticking.

Sweet and humorous all the way through. From their first meeting Clarissa and Ian have noticeable chemistry. As the story unfolds we see them reflecting on their past and their concerns about a relationship as they get to know each other and learn of a little sneaky twist in the grandfathers will.

All the characters are vivid and hold their own in the story, especially Lucy who is a hoot. I enjoyed the descriptions and how I was able to envision the castle and surround nature. This was a quick and fun read😀

Thank you for the chance to share my opinions and read this book!
