Ron Ripley is a husband and father surviving in New England, a place which seems to be getting colder every day. He grew up across from a disturbingly large cemetery where he managed to scare himself every night before going to bed. Mostly because of the red lights that people put in front of the headstones. Those things are just plain creepy to a kid.
Ron enjoys writing horror, military history and driving through the small towns of New England with his family, collecting books and giving impromptu lectures on military history to his family, who enjoy ignoring him during those dreadful times.
I was lucky enough to have gotten a free audio book code from Scare street. I am volunteering to leave this review. Awesome audio book plenty of twist and turns.
Wow! This one made me read way past my bedtime and it was worth every minute. Ron Ripley just keeps on outdoing himself with every new book he writes. This one is not only gripping but also a bit gruesome as it includes scenes of cannibalism with vivid descriptions of bodies being cut up and boiled. Not for the faint of heart. There are several unanswered questions here. Who is the mysterious partner? What is Shane Ryan's role in the story? All these acknowledge that at least one more book will follow in this excellent series. Scare Street's writers are among the best in the business. If you need any proof of this, pick up this series and see for yourself. You will not be disappointed.
Ron Ripley never disappoints when it comes to his works, and Feast of Fear is no different! I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN! From page one, you are going to be drug (literally) into this book, and it is going to exceed every single expectation that you could have.
Get ready to meet a spirit that is beyond evil, and the one woman who seems to be manipulating the evil for her own benefit. Dan might able to stop them, but it could cost him everything..
I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher for reviewing purposes.
It's been two months since I finished Anger & Death the second book in the Tormented Souls series, and as such initially hazy on the precise circumstances that had unfolded so when this launched pretty much straight into things it took a little while to remember where everything was in the story. I feel it would have benefited greatly from a prologue which summarised prior key events. That being said, after a few pages I was back in the zone so to speak.
Dan Tate continues his alliance with the cemetery ghosts and Janet & Beverley continue their scourge of violence on the town of Anger, New Hampshire for reasons which are still not readily apparent. The ghost hunting figure we were introduced too in the last book makes a brief passing appearance however the main focus of this book is the unleashing of Eliza the cannibal ghost who, as one may guess from the title, cooks her victims.
It was a good addition to the series, yet felt a little short, I would have liked to have seen more events unfold in the book and the ending was rather abrupt forward selling to the next book, yet that being said if you have them all that's not such a big deal and seems to be a common tactic in this market.
"Ghosts can't hurt you! All they can do is scare you." Haven't you heard or read that all your life? Well, in the tiny community of Anger, Maine, that maxim is false. There, ghosts can scare you, they can hurt you, they can even kill you, causing excruciating agony in the process. [Maybe the town should be renamed from "Anger" to "Agony."] The good die young, the good die old. The evil die and are brought to the town via whichever artifact to which they are attached, according to the plans of a selfish medium herself controlled by a ghost who in turn is in the clutches of someone even worse.
This series is engrossing to me for the characters--the good guys, such as protagonist Dan, elderly wise woman Mary, Detective Evan Coffin, remaining scion of a founding family--are individuals of integrity, personally flawed, but realistically human. I am also engrossed with the plot's incredibly creative Supernatural elements. Yet I must caution new readers that the violence level is extreme, especially so, I thought, in this novel. People get hurt, and badly. A lot suffer, extremely. There are scenes here which will be especially disturbing to some readers, so exercise caution.
Dan continues to restore the school house and work out his issues from being involved in an active shooting at a high school. Unfortunately, he has made a big time enemy of Janet Ladd and the ghosts she has set after him.. She is the local medium who is using the ghosts to take people’s money. Unfortunately, Dan is the target of Janet’s latest ghost. Someone who is very evil and will do anything to Dan, including killing him.
We are introduced to a cannibal ghost in this book. That should say it all. This book is very gruesome. Good thing I like gruesome books. It is very important that Dan keep on his toes in this book. I am finding that I have to read from beginning to end because this is not a book you can start and then go to bed only to pick it up the next morning. I am looking forward to the fourth book in this series.
The final book of the series was good, but I feel it fell short. There are older characters that just disappeared.
Janet is working on getting Mary out of her house. However, Mary lunes her home with salt and iron, sure it would protect her.
Dan is working with the dead boy, Eli, in trapping the demonic spirit. Jessica, Dan’s ex-wife, does not know what is going on with him but she does not want their children anywhere near him. Dan won’t take the bate from her but he will not let her take his kids away from him.
Note: this is part 3 of the story. They are NOT stand alone. It helps a little if you read the Berklet Street series first, though. But you do not have to. The excitement keeps growing. Love Dan and Eli. Hate Janet and Beverly. Mr Ripley is great at developing characters that you can relate to. Cheer them on or hope some misfortune really happens to them. I can't wait to see how Shane Ryan fits into all of this. On to the next book.....
The plot thickens and so are my nerves. Just as I thought, Dan got beatup bad again. This time by the living and the dead! Now Janet Ladd ( I hope she gets whats coming to her one day!!! ) is after poor Dan, with a vengeance! Very engaging series! Can't what to start book 4! Like I said, im not a series reading type person but this has me hooked more then anybook has this year! I highly recommend this series, I can't stress that enough!
He is, without doubt, my most favourite Author of ghoulish reads. Never disappoints me, however, I'm losing sleep as I have to finish the book in one read. Always on the lookout for another one but, alas, now have to wait for the next. Well done indeed, I've enjoyed following Dan's exploits can't wait to see what's in store next.
Just the right amount of creepy – – well developed characters that you care for
I’m so happy I found Ron Ripley. I really enjoy his writing, and I have devoured up nearly everything that I can locate that he’s written. I also use my audible credits to purchase his books. The main narrator is amazing. Thanks for the awesomeness Ron!!
The third book in the Tormented Souls series by Ron Ripley. In this book, we are still looking in on Dan Tate and Janet, both with the usual ghosts at their sides. Janet tries to eliminate Dan as a threat but the plan did not go off as intended. Again, Dan works on himself, his past, and his children, as well as a new female friend.
I am such a fan of Rob Ripley, his books are the perfect amount of detail with story lines that have you keeping your night light on. I always know a title with his name is a guaranteed excellent read!
Wow! excellent as always I'm really loving this series, I like how every chapter has a name, I'm hoping that this series continues and Janet gets hers.
I am really enjoying this series of books by Ron Ripley. His imagination and paranormal storytelling is amazing. I look forward to the next book in this collection!
