Kaid Ranch Shifters #1

Steal Her Heart

Rate this book
Maris Thurgood is in deep trouble. Abandoned to care for a ranch on her own, she’s struggling from sunup to sundown to keep up with the work. When a pack of werewolves begins preying on her herd, she has no choice but to sell. A chance meeting at the cattle auction has her wondering why someone as tall, dark, and growly as Bryson Locke would take any interest in a business venture with her. He’s got one rule for her, and that is to never go outside past sundown while he’s hunting the wolves. But what she starts realizing about him…Bryson Locke is much more dangerous than the pack of predators that are hunting her.

Bryson didn’t get to be the Ranch Manager at the Kaid Brother’s Ranch by accident. He has a certain set of skills that allows him to protect the massive herd from predators. For a couple years now, he’s been spinning his wheels and looking for a purpose, and one lands right in his lap in the form of the beautiful, curvy, spitfire who has trouble written all over her. Why would a pack of werewolves terrorize this woman? And more importantly, why does he care so much? Pride is everything for a rancher, and Maris has it in excess. She has her guard up and has obviously been hurt before, but the more he gets to know of her, the more he wants to find out why she’s being targeted by the wolves…and that answer might get them both killed.

I'm sitting here questioning my friends judgement for rating this 4-5stars.
This H was SUCH AN ASSHOLE!
Ugh! What the hell?
Also, what is wrong with all these Kaid brothers?!
I've read enough books to be able to read between the lines of a hefty majority of books and yet everytime Wes said, "You still don't get it?"
I'm so effing sure Bryson and I wore the very same dumb-founded look like "What the F are you talking about man?!"

Apparently Shifter cowboy/ranchers are a Thing I need in my life, but I wasn't aware of it until now. This fairly short romance ticked off a lot of boxes for me and made for an enjoyable reading experience all the way through.

Maris is in her early 30s, divorced, and saddled with more debt and problems than a single person should ever have to handle. Once monstrous wolves start decimating her cattle, she makes the hardest decision she has to date—she takes them to auction and starts the heartbreaking process of selling her little slice of heaven. Maris is a strong woman and resilient, but all of us break at some point, and she's tired. This all changes when a man from the ranch "next door" buys her entire herd and things get interesting from there. Maris has no use for men after how badly she was burned in her last relationship, but she can't seem to feel that way about Bryson.

She’d had a plan. Stay bitter and angry at men the rest of her life and live alone as a prickly little grumpy cactus on her little slice of heaven-property for the rest of her days.

I feel ya, Maris.

Maris quickly gets entangled in a world she never knew existed, and her life is never the same.

“You’re worried about your favorite jeans being torn up?” she asked incredulously. “He just shot you.”
“Well, it was like a little shot,” Hunter said defensively. “Like a love shot. Like I aimed it at the ground to scare him off killing me, but it ricocheted and got him in the leg…a little. No arteries or nothin’.”

I about died during this scene. A. Love. Shot.

Overall, this is a solid read. Joyce's work keeps improving with time, and I'm glad I decided to try other titles after my first attempt left me cold with a DNF. I'm looking forward to future installments in this series. Both Hunter and Wes should be treats to read about too.

There are a few things about this one that were lacking or could have been more clear.

✦ The antagonist isn't revealed until late in the story—which I didn't so much mind since life is actually like that; we do not take perpetual stock of every person we've ever met or every interaction. He was obviously not as big a part of her personal story as she was to his. But I would have liked to know a bit more about him and how he changed since she last saw him like...maybe a decade ago, but it could have been more or less? The timeline in regards to this wasn't so clear, nor was it clear if he was previously a Shifter—it's strongly implied that he was—and something happened to him or he changed himself. Why did he become so dead and hollow inside? Why those super icky views about dependency that he spouts near the end? Where did it all come from and that's the route he decided to go? A little exposition to fill him out would have been nice.

✦ While I understand that Ranches are HUGE, it was hard to believe that a ranch with 3 Shifters next door was 100% unaware of the wolf pack tormenting Maris. Especially when it's revealed her ranch has been marked up as strongly and widely as it was by said pack. The cattle fields are divided by a fence that both parties are near at times to tend their cattle, so you would think that one of them would have gotten a whiff of the marking as well as the stench of death surrounding her fields. The urine is specifically to tell other Shifters that something there was claimed. Just sayin'.

Those quibbles aside, this is a mighty fine read for an afternoon.

Maris is determined to never trust another man. Bryson believes he is only good to keep the predators away. Two broken pieces finding each other. Will Maris let him into her heart? Will Bryson realize he is good the way he is?

Every time I think this author cannot top the last book, I am proven wrong. You can just feel the authors emotions in this book. I loved how despite what she was going through Maris kept going when she could have just broke down. I loved how despite how he viewed himself, Bryson was determined to protect those he cared about. Awesome read and cannot wait for Hunter's book!

This one was so easy to read. You find yourself rooting for Maris from the start, for her to find some good in her life, to find a man to treat her the way she should. She does indeed find all of that, just maybe not in the way she thought she ever would. Bryson is a good match for her, looks out for her, cares for and even (unknowingly) comes with a couple bonus guys that end up doting on Maris too. Of course they often are at the center causing a ruckus, but some times that needs to happen. In the end, the 4 of them band together to do what needs to be done to protect their land and their lives. I look forward to reading more in this series.

I couldn't resist the combo of ranching shapeshifters 😂👩‍🌾

Heroine is a headstrong woman pulling herself up by her bootstraps after a bitter divorce

Hero is a bear who sticks his nose into her business. He encourages her to be a strong independent woman so he's alright with me

Thankfully there's no "mating" tropes, but they do fall in love quickly. The plot is simple and the few suspenseful moments are predictable, but still enjoyable. I'll probably continue the series because apparently I have a soft spot for rancher stories. I will need to investigate this further....

Wow, what a great start to another shifter series by one of my favourite authors. Her imagination is never ending, and the H is sweet, sad and so is the h and together they make magic. There are bad wolves and a stupid ex that cause havoc, and some sweet angsty guys who are misfits and lost. Wonderful story.

Somewhat predictable but still engaging and enjoyable. I like that Bryson is a bear, that was unexpected. And along with his animal, I love his protective instincts, and how tough he is. I love how she survives a shitty divorce and manages a ranch by herself, sacrificing her financial freedom for her herd, which she adores. These two heal each other, and it was a satisfying read. I may come back to book #2 at some point, but I am not sure I care enough about Hunter/Sadie to continue. I would like to see Bryson's story continue.

TS Joyce, you are my comfort blanket!

I just lost a childhood friend, and I'm feeling ... broken.

(He had surgery on his hand, and everything was okay. He asked me if I could come visit, to help cheer him up and with training.
I told him 'no' because I was exhausted after some family drama.
2 weeks later, he's dead.)

So, I couldn't sleep tonight, and I have 666 books in my tbr pile (don't judge!), but I needed some Joyce to help my heart smile.

TS Joyce. Thank you!

Loved Maris and Bryson. They worked together so well. Their tenderness (especially Bryson's) was enchanting. Their tenacity to fight for happiness was great. Loved this new group of shifters. Wes and Hunter are already a hoot. Can't wait for their stories.

I can’t even rate this book. I have been in such a bad slump and found this book in a Reddit thread. This is exactly what I needed in this moment and can say I am officially out of my slump.

The strong and silent type

Maris lost her world, or so she thought. At an auction, she meets Bryson. He's the one that'll offer her a new world.

This series' openner offers it all; a hot hero, new not-so-friendly friends and enemies. READ it, you WILL enjoy it. Can't wait for Hunter's story!

Rock bottom never looked so good

Bryson waiting until the right moment to make sure Maris never hit rock bottom. Loved their story both helping each other find love again while accepting they are more then enough. Wes and Hunter turned out to be more then just the ranchers on the other side of the fence. What a great start to this series.

I do love a good shifter book, and Steal Her Heart was so good. Maris owns a small ranch but thanks to her ex-husband she is drowning in debt. Her cattle are being slaughtered by wolves. She refuses to crumble even as she takes the rest of her cattle to auction, her way of saving them from the wolves. Little does she know it would be her salvation.

Bryson works for Kaid Ranch, Maris's neighbor. He meets Maris at the auction and lives will change. He is supposed to be buying cattle for the Kaids. He buys all of Maris's herd and takes it back to her ranch.

Life heats up as Bryson now patrols her ranch to prevent the wolves from attacking. I do love shifter fights and T.S. Joyce wrote a dramatic fight between Bryson's animal and a couple of wolves.

You might think it is all over but it will get a lot worse before it gets better. Along the way Maris will become strong and independent. She is an inspiration.

Some funny moments, but overall a shallow novel. The romantic relationship develops too quickly and is too easy. The shifter aspect of the love interest is glossed over. This is a novel I read on the recommendation of someone else. I knew from the description that it wasn't going to contain enough realism to engage my mind. I spent most of the novel shaking my head at how these people act. I won't read the next. They are just too ridiculous.

Awesome book

My favourite line... His chuckle settled her. “Woman, I don’t care if you’re a fuckin’ fruit bat so long as you’re still here.”

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

STEAL HER HEART is the opening story in the Kaid Ranch Shifters series — and this one will draw you in from the very first words. Remind me to stop thinking that T. S. Joyce has given her best story yet because every single time she ups her game and delivers even more… and I hope that never ends.

As a long-time reader (and lover of this author’s worlds) I’m constantly on the lookout for her signature numbers to appear in every book. And when I find ten-ten (10 10) there’s a big ole grin that covers my face every time. Why? Probably because it’s become a hunt for it to show up, and partly in respect for something that obviously means something special to the author for it to show up so consistently – and because I love the connection to the other worlds that 1010 gives us all. And, yep, there it is and that grin did appear once more.

Maris is the type of heroine that I can always identify with and root for. She’s been done wrong, so very wrong by her ex-husband – and I must admit that I did a few fist pumps when Dallas got what’s due that scum bucket. She’s lost her world, or so she believes and is struggling with running her small ranch single-handedly, growing deeper in debt every day thanks to the actions of said scumbag ex. She’s almost given up when she’s ready to sell her herd at auction. But that decision will become the best one she’s made in years for it will put her right in the path of the right man for her… Bryson.

I loved Maris. She’s beaten down but still can come up with an attitude when needed. She’s rough around the edges, doesn’t hold back what she’s thinking, and is as stubborn as the day is long. Watching her grow throughout her time with Bryson was emotionally satisfying because the stronger she became the more Bryson let go of some of his past. He knows what she is to him, but her healing and her discovery of that fact totally on her own is more important to him than charging and claiming his mate. When the time is right she’ll know what he already accepted.

The action is fast-paced and vivid as we meet up with some truly vile enemies who will do so much to change the lives of those they touch with their poisonous evilness. They are enemies to loathe on principle alone add in their actions and – yeah, hate is such a weak word sometimes. I loved meeting Hunter and Wes, those rambunctious brothers with attitude beyond belief, and cannot wait to learn their stories.

I was captured once more by STEAL HER HEART and would highly recommend this story to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader. I will definitely be on pins and needles waiting for Hunter’s story.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

Becoming Her Champion!!!

Maris Thurgood was abandoned by her ex-husband, she found herself alone and having to care for a ranch. Things weren't going well, she was struggling. She knew she had to sell when a pack of wolves began attacking her herd. At the cattle auction she met a sexy as sin adonis man, Bryson Locke who was interested in doing business with her. He only had one request for her, she wasn't to go outside at nights.

Bryson Locke was the Ranch Manager at the Kaid Brother's Ranch and an inner animal that allowed him to protect the herd from predators. He has been looking for a purpose for some time now and one happened to land in his lap in the form of a beautiful and fierce woman named Maris Thurgood with some big trouble.

He wanted to know why the wolves were targeting her, there was something about her that called to him and his inner beast. She was guarded but as time passed, he was able to breakdown her walls. And vice versa.

Liked the relationship between the Kaid brothers and Bryson. They were all shifters despite their differences, they had each other's backs. Adding Maris to the mix made them pack, a famiy. Their bantering was refreshing.

When someone from Maris' past came causing trouble, she nearly lost her life. It was changed forever but she wouldn't change anything. She had the man she loved, and some new friends that felt more like family. No matter how things turned out, she was happy she opened her heart again. The boys as well.

STEAL HER HEART is the first installment in T. S. Joyce's newest series, KAID RANCH SHIFTERS . What an awesome, intriguing, alluring and mind-blowing way to kick off this new journey. Another masterpiece by T. S. Joyce. Can't wait for what comes next! 5🌟🌟🌟🌟

P. S. Looking forward to the next installment! ;)

I just recently found T.S. Joyce and so this is my first book of hers. I have always stayed away from shifter stories because they just haven't been an interest of mine compared to all of the others book I want to book. When this new book cropped up though and had Jonny on the cover, I couldn't resist. I had to try it and it was the perfect one since it's the first in a new series. I'm so glad I gave in because I loved the book and loved T.S. Joyce's writing.

I absolutely love the connection that Maris and Bryson had. My, oh my, were they hot together! He definitely stole her heart and some of mine as well.

I loved when he told her "The best revenge on a person who hurts you is to be happy. It’s to survive and keep your head up and keep being a badass." That so struck a chord with me because I've been hurt but I'm surviving and keeping my head up.

I also loved when Maris told her ex "“I forgive you.” Felt so good to utter those three words. She’d always thought I love you was the most rewarding three-word combination in the world, but no. It was this. I. Forgive. You. “Not for you, Dallas,” she explained. “I forgive you for me. Because I deserve better than for you to have power over me. For you to make me bitter. You don’t matter that much."

Amazing book and amazing story! I'm so very glad that I read this book and I can't wait to now go read more of T.S. Joyce books.
