Cats Are People, Too is a collection of Dave Coverly’s cat-themed cartoons from his nationally syndicated panel Speed Bump.
Divided into chapters such as “Cats and Their Humans,” “DomestiCATed,” “Reigning Cats and Dogs,” and filled with cat clichés, pop “capture,” as well as reflections from six other award-winning, cat-loving cartoonists.
2021 bk 279. More cartoons for comfort. Coverly's cats range from the prehistoric to the futuristic, all of course consider themselves Masters of the Universe. Quite fun to read!
Sometimes you just need a good palette cleanser.... Laugh out loud funny, to the point those around you will look at you like you are nuts. Just what I was looking for.
A lively, charming collection of comic strips that can serve as a palette cleanser between books or as a book to read on the side, Cats Are People, Too is a comfort read, as the title indicates. While the humour is a little uneven at times, it is by all means wholesome throughout, interspersed with stories of actual cats that are equally endearing.
Recently our cat of 20 years became so ill that we had to help him gently cross the rainbow bridge. Obviously we were devastated, but glad for the end to our feline friend's suffering. But an emptiness began to fill the house, making things quite dark. Then I found this copy of "Cats Are People, Too" at my favorite bookseller and it did a lot to cheer me up . Multiple artists are featured in this compilation and readers will find themselves chuckling at how human these cats are. From the kittens pointing out that their mother might be carrying them a bit too much, to the older cat being proud of his nine lives, all the characters are memorable. We humans even manage to sneak into a few of the illustrations like the couple cutting the catnip supply off after they realize their cats are pontificating about the mysteries of the universe. "Whoa...dude..." By the time I finished reading "Cats Are People Too" I was smiling and looking forward to sharing this great book with others. If you love cats and their humans being humorous, this book is for you too!
This was a fun book to read...kinda like a Garfield book, only there were many characters (especially cats!). Several people were involved in making the book it was, and each was introduced with a short autobiography, and an example of their work. The chapters are each about different cat characteristics such as; "cat and mouse games", "cats and their humans", "crazy cats', and "cartoons without a category" to name a few. It's a book that I had to read until I completed it...I couldn't put it down. The color was exceptional...the illustrations were excellent and showed the different positions (and situations) that I find my own cat in. Cat lovers will enjoy it!
Confession: cat person here. So it follow that a book of cartoons about cats was a no-brainer to pick up at the the local library. There were some funny, others, not so much. According to a few book distributor websites, this is a book for children about 9-11, I am, respectfully (or not) disagreeing. There are some for them but overall it has a much more mature flavor it. They might understand them but one I really hope not.
This book has very funny cat scenarios and I did some laughing out loud which is so good for you.
I do think this is not really a juvenile book in that many of the situations are more adult or have insinuations that children are a little too young for.
I would suggest that parents read it first before giving to their child or read with them to answer any questions that may arise.
A collection of cat cartoons from the creator of the Speed Bump comic strip.
A very fun collection of cat comics for all ages. The comics are arranged by topic and in between sections Coverly had some of his fellow illustrators share about their own felines. This was a fun, light-hearted read for the afternoon. Recommended for the cat lovers in your life (and of course, comics fans).
This book is great. It's a collection of cartoons, primarily about cats but some other animals appear as well. Coverly is a wonderful artist with a great sense of humor. If you love cats, you will recognize the truth behind these cartoons and love them as much as I do.
Cat cartoons, organized by themes such as "Cats and Their Humans" and "Domesti-cat-ed." Good for a quick, light read, especially if you are a cat person. Some of the jokes make this a bit more appropriate for older teens and adults (rather than the "all ages" designation on the back cover).
4.5 stars. I was pretty entertained though there were a few duds mixed in. A hilarious and fun collection for cat lovers. Easy, quick read. Imagine a full book of Sunday funnies but make them all cat themed.
This is a quick read, cute and fun, but I would not recommend children read it, as there's some content that would be unsuitable. I would have liked to have seen more from the guest cartoonists, but it was interesting to see how their styles differ from Coverly's.
