Was it a joke?
The H had a gf who was still technically married, but apparently filed for divorce.
The h was also technically married and filed for divorce.
The H continued to sleep with his gf after meeting the h.
Wow, they sound like a bunch of nice people!

Small island, everyone knew everyone... everyone slept with everyone?

****4 Hot Lumberjack Stars****

John Day is one hot lumberjack!!! After reading this book I'm totally asking my hubby to grow a beard for the winter. Ready To Fall is the follow up novel to Geoducks Are For Lovers which is one of my favorite book of this year, this books feel like comfort food to me; heartwarming and with a lot of humor.

John Day is handsome, strong and a really nice guy. After his favorite neighbor Maggie rents out her cabin for the winter he finds himself unable to stop watching after the beautiful brunette with sad eyes that lives next door. Diana is a big city girl leaving in a small island, escaping her jerk of an Ex and a very messy divorce, the last thing she expected was to be neighbors with a hot Alpha male logger with a beard. John and Diane start spending time together and become fast friends, and even though they both have battered hearts, without knowing they will be ready To Fall and we will be there, front seat to experience all the romantic and sexy action.

"Because The words weren't mine yet to say, I had to show her she meant everything to me."

Daisy Prescott's books are feel good stories, with relatable characters and her writing style is so flawless that she makes you feel part of the story; I still remember Maggie every time I eat a delicious scone and John Day is definitely bringing sexy back with that beard, did I mentioned the man is HOT!!!

I would recommend both books to absolutely everybody!!! Lets go Geoduck hunting together. *wiggles eyebrows.

My Ready To Fall Palylist:
*Arms By Christina Perry
*Try by Nelly Furtado
*Better Man by Pearl Jam
**Feels Like Home by Chantal Kreviazuk

3.5 Lumberjack Stars!!

I really enjoyed this book. The Hero John Day was absolutely swoon worthy and the heroine Diane was very likeable.....it was a different in the sense that it's from the hero's POV, which is a first for me (at least that I can recall).

Ready to Fall photo PicsArt_1506248835821_zpsr7redths.jpg

There were some family dynamics that didn't make much sense to me, but, maybe it was just me...? Other than that I found this to be a thoroughly fun, romantic, and enjoyable read.

H was.not celibate for at least half the book and slept with two different women while he knew the heroine but didn’t sleep with anyone after he started sleeping with the heroine.
See the common factor here, the hero is a manho .

AND THE AUTHOR STRAIGHT UP WROTE A SEX SCENE OF THE HERO AND THE WOMAN HE IS SLEEPING WITH (who is not the heroine, but a woman who is still married) AS AN EXTRA SCENE SHE PUBLISHED IN A SEPARATE NOVEL, AND PEOPLE ACTUALLY REQUESTED FOR THIS, like wtf why would you want to read that!!!

...Are just a few of the elements making this well-written, engaging, at times humorous love story an entertaining and enjoyable read.

The author takes readers back to Whidbey Island and gives sexy, John Day and Diane Watson's story. I was hooked from the get-go and while all is not perfect, I found it to be a fun, sexy, appealing read.

I recommend this to everyone who enjoys an uncomplicated, passionate, feel good love story with a small town setting. I found the dog adorable too:)...

Hero - John
Heroine - Diane
Hero's sex buddy - Kelly

Too much with the sex buddy. Who did the hero want?!?!?

The hero was weak. He had a high school crush, Kelly, who he was sleeping with. The sex must have good because all she would do was order him around and he still be with her. She would say "John, we are meeting my parents for dinner!" John would say "ok." John said he did not want to take the next step with Kelly, but he was the one that was calling her "his girlfriend" and he was the one upset that she did not tell him that she was still seeing her estranged husband. The more I read about John and Kelly, the more disconnected I became with the story. Kelly was not the heroine.

John Day was too wishy-washy for me. I like my hero to know what he wants and go for it. There was no insta-attraction with the heroine, Diane. The story did not have to be insta-love or insta-anything, but it needed him to stop being a fool with Kelly.

The book was written in John's POV and sometimes, I just wanted him to stop talking. He was not a strong hero. By the time anything happened, I had lost all my connection with the characters and did not care. John Day was supposed to be this strong guy, but he was the opposite.

This was not for me.

Starting off from a few months after Geoducks for Lovers finished , Daisy Prescott is back with another installment of this secluded island tales called "Ready to Fall". Maggie after reconnecting with her high school sweetheart Gil is staying at the Mainland with him as their romance rekindles , so it leaves her house on the island open. Maggie's friend Quinn has a client/friend who is going through a rough time and needs the escape - so Maggie rents out her house to Diane for the season. Those who have read Geoducks are for Lovers will remember Maggie's rugged outdoorsy neighbour John Day aka your modern Paul Bunyan. There is something about Diane that he likes but he knows that inside she is hiding a lot of pain just as he is behind all his flirtatious words and actions. Can John prove to Diane , that he isn't just another bump in the road or another notch on her bedpost or even a name in the jerks column ? Has John finally met the woman who can make him "Ready to Fall" for love?

Find out in Daisy Prescott's new release "Ready to Fall".

****4 stars! So this was a cute read! I didn't read the first book by this author and apparently characters from it are in this book. John was a sweetheart, but at times I felt like he needed to grow a set, be a man and fight for his woman. With the amount of denial he was in for a big portion of the book, I am surprised a nice epilogue wasn't provided to give us glimpses into their future. I mean, we knew based on his inner dialogues where things were headed, but an epilogue would have been nice.

Nothing wrong with the way the book was written just wasn't my thing. The MC starts the book dating another woman. He seems to have a past history of mostly hook ups. When he finally breaks up with the first woman he immediately sets out and achieves another hook up all while knowing the heroine and forming a bond.

One good thing, no OW descriptive scenes. It's just told to us dispassionately and in one sentence forms.

I ABSOLUTELY loved this book. There are so many things about this book that have completely stolen my heart. John Day is at the top of the list. I mean seriously, I need this man, where can I find him?

Throughout this entire book I was laughing out loud at their dialogue and silly humor. It's so lighthearted and fun, but I will admit I cried at a certain part! It was just so emotional!

I had a silly smile plastered on my face the whole time I was reading it, so if you're looking for a witty romance, you HAVE to read this!!

Ugh, I need more John Day. Stat.

I'm a lumberjack and I'm O.K.

I enjoyed this story and love the small town feel to these stories.

Both the H and h had their own issues but were able to work them out together in a realistic way. There were some hot and steamy sexy bits with some sweet stuff as well.

I have enjoyed both books in this series and I will definitely be reading more from this author.

Nice! Very, very nice, enjoyable cozy little love story. Not too smutty, but still very sexy. I would love to see a Christmas / Holiday book by this author. I think she would nail it.

I had the pleasure of meeting Daisy Prescott at an author event last year and picked up this book (well, the entire series) because it seemed like a fun read. Thankfully, I was right in my assumptions! Ready to fall is a cute book. The story follows two neighbors who grow fond of one another after spending some time together. The story takes place on a quaint island, has a bearded lumberjack hero, and a divorcee heroine. The two are total opposites if you take in their lifestyles, but couldn't fit more together had they come from the same place. I love how the author wrote their love story- it just worked really well and felt right. The novel doesn't have unnecessary drama (yay), is low on angst, and is sexy as hell! This is NOT erotica, but the sex scenes are steamy. All in all, it's just a really fun book, one I wouldn't mind being a part of if it were real life, and am really looking forward to the rest of the books in the series.

My only complaint about this novel is the fact that there were hardly any secondary characters. We meet two people who we are able to get to know a tiny bit, but the story doesn't involve them as much as I would have liked. For me, I like seeing friendships and other connections besides a relationship within the story and this was lacking in Ready to Fall. Other than this I have no complaints! It's a cute, solid read.

This book would be perfect for readers who enjoy:
▶ Lumberjack heroes
▶ Beards and Brawn
▶ Love after divorce romances
▶ Small town romances.
▶ Opposites attract
▶ Neighbors to lovers
▶ Outdoorsy novels (camping, fishing, etc.)

PS: This is the first book in the series but each book can stand alone.

*SPOILER FREE REVIEW*

I was lucky enough (yes, I really feel that way) to beta read Ready to Fall. This is the second book from Daisy Prescott and while I really enjoyed Geoducks are for Lovers, THIS BOOK gave me all the things I love to read. Let me start by saying that while Ready to Fall is book 2, you do not have to read book 1 to enjoy all the hotness (and the story) that is John Day. When I read Geoducks are for Lovers I kept on wondering what the deal with the hot next door neighbor was. Luckily I had developed a friendship with Daisy and was able to say to her "hey!! I want more of the bearded goodness that is John Day!!!!!" So here we are a few months later and I got my John Day story. This is an amazing story of two adults, that have had life experience that happen to meet when both are going through a transition in their lives. I love the circumstance of how they meet, and what brings them together. This is a very natural love story, that evolves and then burns hot. The writing is descriptive, the story interesting, and OMG......... I want to have sex outdoors with a lumberjack now. I can not wait for the release of Ready to Fall so that I can start to discuss with all my book friends.

This was a quick easy ready. There wasn't anything that was spectacular about it IMHO, but there wasn't really anything wrong with it either. It felt very real and the angst wasn't over the top at all. I just felt like I was waiting for something wild to happen and it never did. That is the only reason I didn't give it five stars.

I loved John and his lumberjackness, and Diane was great as well. They worked well together in my opinion.

For a book that has only a couple side characters and has huge attention on two main characters who are going trough some emotional things I would need more "feel" for them. Which means that I really don't feel the connection between them.
Weak hero and I don't really care for heroine.

No lie. I will one-click a Daisy Prescott book any day, confident that the purchase will be more than worth my while. Sure the main character is hot, and sexy as anything; but to confine the leading male to the title of hotness alone would do this story a great disservice.

The author writes the road to a solid relationship flawlessly. So much so, that you ache to travel it’s path, to be one of her character’s friends, to be on the island where neighbors watch out for others. I breezed through this book and was completely immersed in John and Diane’s relationship. The story, told through the male POV, was convincing. He was gruff when gruffness was expected and the dialogue was distinctly male. But the inner turmoil and John’s quiet emotions captured the male’s perspective accurately. He didn’t quite know what to make of this woman, this person that was just so easy to hang out with.

Diane had a complicated past, and because of this past she was left with a snippet of self esteem. She leaves the city for the solace of Whidbey Island, but finds herself living next door to this ever-so-lovely neighbor, John Day. Her first day on the Island and she almost burns the house down. No idea how to live on her own and in her new surroundings, she acclimates herself quickly with the help of her new found friend and neighbor. He helps her find a car, encourages her to find a job, and introduces her to the locals.

The potential for a relationship between John and Diane are ever present, but neither are willing to take a chance. The pretense of friendship is much safer to pursue and they find comfort in each other’s company. Maggie encourages the friendship and even teases John.

“Be friendly. Bring her fish. Chop some wood for her. Take off your shirt and give her a show while you do it. She might be anti-love, but no woman is anti-eyecandy.”

A relationship is the last thing that John needs, especially one that has issues with ex’s. But he could be nice to Diane, he could be friends. Just friends. Right?

But then she goes hiking, camping and even fishing with him. What gives? The woman he was only supposed to be nice to is now transitioning into something much more important. And when he almost loses her, he finally realizes how important she becomes in his life.

This books was like a warm fireplace, as you sit sipping on some hot chocolate. It was all things comfortable, the story line deliciously sweet. A conceivable feel-good romance that shouts “read me, you won’t regret it.” I’ve always loved the cozy feel of flannel against my skin on a brisk day, and the fresh, earthy scent of pine trees in the winter. Ready to Fall just cements my reasons for loving it more.

On a side note, my husband is currently growing a beard. He has reported a slight increase of female attention during this period of growth. Clinical studies are currently being recorded and results are forthcoming. This beard phenomena is quite intriguing to say the least…and it feels ticklish when we kiss. ;-)

What can I say about this book? I am going to give it a 3.5

This is the story of John Day our hero and the story is all from his pov. He is introduced in Geoducks Are for Lovers but I didn't read that one. He is a single guy who from this book isn't the manwhore people seem to think he is but he is also someone who hasn't done many real relationships. In the beginning, he is going with a old crush who doesn't really know what she wants and she is separated but still married. The relationship ends on a bad note and makes him wonder about relationships vs being single. He meets the heroine Diane while she is staying in his neighbors house. Diane is getting divorced and is having a hard time with starting over right in the beginning. They become friends and he helps her in many ways. They develop a relationship but of course have their up and downs.

This was a really good story and I enjoyed the relationship and friendship between John and Diane. The problems for me personally was that some things felt incomplete.

So for me while this was a nice read and I enjoyed it but it wouldn't be a re read for me and I am not interested in any other books with these characters.

Ready For Real Romance and Lumberjack Fantasies!

John Day is a good man with a simple life plan. He'd deny your first impression and accept the virtue of the latter.
I liked logger John, island boy, a lot. Told entirely in his POV, his and Diane's journey unfolded at an easy pace, just like their freindly, humorous getting-to-know-you conversations over pizza and pino, beer and firelight.
I liked getting-to-know-herself, newly divorced Diane, city girl, a lot. I liked their budding friendship, as they leaned toward each other and on each other's strengths...and vulnerabilities.  Smexy times. Island times. Tom Cat times. Lumberjack fantasy times. Figuring out things times. Life affirming times.
I liked this journey a lot.

Great romantic story. Sweet friendship turns into love. Written from John's point of view, and the author did a great job. Every time John was asked a question and he stopped to ask himself the question, or he asked himself a question, I thought oh yeah guys are so dumb they'd have to think about it.

This was an excellently written contemporary romance, with the writing style I love. I loved the main characters as well as the secondary. There are too many great one liners to try and recount them all. I highly recommend this very sweet love story. Excellent read.

3.75 A cute, light and fun read. A bit too predictable though and the writing felt amateurish, especially during the beginning. Could've been five stars with a bit more depth...
August 10, 2020
John Day is understandably concerned when he hears the smoke detector going off in his neighbor's house - as far as he knows, Maggie's in Portland. He heads over to check things out and is surprised to find a skittish brunette named Diane trying to light a fire in Maggie's fireplace. It turns out that Diane is going through an ugly divorce, and a mutual friend helped her arrange to stay at Maggie's place while she's gone. Diane's a city girl, but spending time on this quiet little island might be a good way for her to figure out what she wants to do with herself after her divorce.

Although she intrigues him, John initially figures he'll steer clear of Diane. He's got enough on his plate as it is, what with his own messy relationship with Kelly, an old high school crush of his who barely knew he existed back then but who likes him a lot more now. Unfortunately, although Kelly swore she was in the process of getting divorced, it's now looking like she might be getting cold feet.

John isn't interested in risking his heart again, and neither is Diane, but they do get along pretty well. Surely they can be friends, and maybe flirt a bit but still stick to a "no sex" rule. Right.

This book was part of my Book Bonanza 2019 haul. Daisy Prescott's table was one of the first ones I visited - if I remember right, she spoke on a panel about romantic comedies, and I thought her books sounded perfect for me. The illustrated covers didn't hurt, either. I'm a sucker for those. I ended up buying both this first Wingmen book and the fourth.

I went into this really hoping that I'd enjoy it so that I wouldn't regret also buying that fourth book. Initially, it seemed like I'd made a mistake - I caught two pretty glaring typos in the first 10 pages, not a good sign. Thankfully, I only noticed a couple more errors after that, so it wasn't a sign of worse to come. Still, the copyright page says that this is the second edition, so I'd expect these particularly glaring errors to have been spotted and fixed by now.

Based on the panel I attended, I expected this to be more of a romantic comedy. In reality, it's a contemporary romance with occasional light moments - not a romantic comedy at all, especially when you consider both John and Diane's emotional baggage. Diane had her ugly divorce and years of her husband slowly eroding her self-confidence to overcome. John, meanwhile, had abandonment issues and guilt stemming from (by the way, this book was solely hero POV, first person). He had trouble being honest with himself about his feelings. For example, although he initially convinced himself that his relationship with Kelly was just "no strings attached" sex, at least a part of him must have hoped it'd turn more serious, or he wouldn't have been so hurt when their setup fell apart.

John and Diane initially aimed for a platonic friendship, but with a good bit of flirting, which of course eventually led to sex. These two weren't very good at the whole platonic friendship thing, but I enjoyed how well they got along. Sure, they had some emotional baggage, but there wasn't nearly as much drama as I'd expected. No jealous exes storming in and making everyone miserable. All of the book's conflict was internal, focused on John's abandonment issues and the question of whether Diane, a city girl, would even want to stay on the island when her time at Maggie's place was up.

I hate to say this, but as quick and breezy a read as this was, I could have used a bit more conflict. As it was, the story seemed like it was over well before the last page. Although only one of them was called an epilogue, the last three chapters all felt like one long epilogue. And speaking of epilogues, I hated the structure of that last chapter. First we got the moment John proposed to Diane. Then 24 hours before the proposal. Then 18 hours, then six, then one. It was tedious.

Overall, I don't regret reading this and am cautiously optimistic about the other book I bought. It was a relatively light and quick read, despite the main characters' emotional baggage, and John and Diane were a nice couple. That said, it could easily have ended about 20 pages sooner. Also, thinking back, it was weirdly lacking in secondary characters. Tom showed up a few times, Diane went out with some people she knew through work, and John and Diane occasionally encountered employees at places. For the most part, though, it was John and Diane and nobody else. I hope Book 4 gives me a firmer picture of what this island and its inhabitants are like.
