*** REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS ****

This is yet another 2nd chance romance (what else is new?! ) and though I’ve tried to avoid them, for some reason I had to check to see if this one would be any different without having all my pet peeves that is the norm these days with this trope. For the record, IT’S NOT!

What it’s about: Charlotte, Phillip & his sister Agatha have been lifelong friends. Through his teen & college years, Phillip has been a player, and Charlotte who had crushed on him for a long time, had a front row seat to all his exploits. For him, Charlotte was just his kid sister’s BFF - until the year when she turned 18 and he kissed her!

After sharing their first kiss, the Author used the same old trope in which hero got “scared” of his feelings & felt that he wasn’t “good enough” for her, so he betrays her & she is left devastated. After their kiss, Philip calls her to come to his dorm/apartment and she thinking that he asked her to come so that they can talk, finds him with OW who is wrapped all around him and he tells heroine to shut the door as he is “busy”.

“I had been determined to enjoy my early twenties. While I had flirted and dated with a wild abandon, whenever she would walk into a room, I would be drawn to her. My eyes would follow her every move and at times, I would wonder if I had become a stalker. Her presence had drawn out a side of me that I rarely showed anyone”.

“I was young and stupid. I had no direction in life, I was just some frat boy who thought the world revolved around him and you were so much more mature. You deserved someone who was more stable. Someone who didn’t remain drunk for days and who didn’t take everything he had for granted. How could I possibly deserve you? I knew that if I had pursued this, I would have ended up hurting you one way or another.”

Philip shook his head, “I was too scared of hurting you.” A pause.“And then I went and hurt you even more, driving you away.”

That episode was the start of a downward spiral for heroine where a dangerous enemy had her fighting for her life. This story is about a heroine who survived physical & mental abuse from her stepfather. There are scenes that are heartbreaking once you get into the story of what unfolds after she walked away from hero. For me, this was the main reason of this story why I did not DNF as I normally do when I come across typical 2nd chance romances with my pet peeves. This story is realistic in some parts as a lot of the headlines today are about physical & mental abuse and the Author does a good job in making the reader feel heroine’s pain. The love story in itself is also sweet once you get past the way Hero betrayed her and how he stayed away for 10 years without realizing he “loved’ her! Lol.

Now I should also mention a little more about the plot. When the book opens, heroine is about to get married to a man she was dating for two years. It’s 10 years since she last seen Hero and he is only attending her wedding because his sister insisted & threatened him! When Hero walks in to the church, he overhears a conversation with the groom & best man in which the groom is planning to do something to humiliate someone & the best man is trying to stop him. Hero at that point is “concerned” but doesn’t do anything until the heroine is about to take her vows and the evil groom rejects & humiliates her. It is then that the Hero walks up to the groom, punches him & marries the heroine instead.

Side note: For anyone who reads that part in which heroine is rejected, betrayed and humiliated in church, your heart will clench for her! That scene was brutal on the heartstrings.

So now we have a sweet/strong heroine who has been to hell & back in her life, gets rejected & betrayed by the two men she ever loved and has to either shut down or learn to trust again! As for hero, he went into “redemption” mode after he first hurt her by becoming a better man. He said he left his “player” ways behind him and focused on becoming a successful businessman. Let’s also be clear that he was not celibate in the 10 yrs apart. He said he “dated” and that it has been a year since he last had a GF because as soon as he found out heroine was marrying, he went out & got drunk and apparently couldn’t be with any other woman. Now that part had me rolling my eyes because it took him realizing that heroine was lost to him forever to stop sleeping around? (Give me a break!). Then we also have the fact that he never contacted her at all in the 10 yrs apart and he suddenly realized he was “in love” with her after she was attacked & beaten? (Please!).

There is also a mystery of who is after the heroine and I must say that I didn’t see it coming when the bad guys are finally revealed. One in particular had me rolling my eyes that Hero especially didn’t recognize! All in all, this is a good story with just enough romance, mystery and very likable characters (both main & side characters) to have kept me entertained, but the triggers/pet peeves ruined it for me.

SAFETY: No OW or OM drama. No sex scenes with OP. Neither are virgins. No rape. Safe sex was not practiced. Some violent content with abuse that I mentioned above with heroine and there is no detailed mention of the scene in past with Hero & OW of what actually happened. I think he staged it in order for heroine to move on with her life without him, but we never learned if he actually f***ed the OW that night or why he couldn't just have told heroine he didn't want anything to do with her. It is revealed later that he & the OW had an on/off type relationship then.
It does have an okay HEA but I wanted more and unfortunately there is no Epilogue. Bummer!

All Aboard!

This book was a train wreck from the beginning to the end. Daughter of the maid, abused by stepfather, left at the later by fiance who left the church with his girlfriend, she is still at later and her best friend's brother marries her. Her stepfather was selling her to loan sharks to pay off his debts, her bakery is burned and she was beaten, the police want her for the murder of her stepfather.....then another police detective kidnaps her and she is rescued by her husband.

Unbelievable. You have to read it to believe it.

My review is given completely voluntarily. I did receive an ARC by author through booksprout.

The Wrong Groom by Emelia Blair.
I gave this book 5 stars. This book is my favorite one from this author so far. It's her best work in my opinion. She wrote a whopping story of mystery /suspense second chance at love romance in a short book. Great Job Emelia, the only thing I can think of is maybe an epilogue just to let us know how things are going 6-12 months later 😉
Charlotte and Philip grew up together, because Philip's sisters is her best friend. Charlotte has overcome so much trauma and disappointment in her life to get to where she is right now, an owner of a bakery and about to get married.... but her fiance is not the man who she thought he was, he is slimeball!!!
Philip in order to deserve being with her, he had a lot of growing up to do, to become the rich, hot man he is now, he had no choice but to brake Charlotte heart all those years ago. Now he back, and at the wedding of the only woman he ever truly loved, who is about to marry another man - this is the last place he wants to be at this moment. The only reason he came was because of his little sister who is a pain in his ass, and made him come!
This book has lots of love, romance, great friends, I love the secondary characters, there is distrust, mafia, lieing and scheming, lots of action, some steamy sex, but in a serious note the most important subject that Emelia wrote about was of immense fiscal abuse, and how the human being is affected and deals with it. How love heals a broken body, and heart!
There is a HEA :-)
I can't wait to see the other friends tumble into love themselves!

This was an enjoyable read. Philip and Charlotte have a past. After many years Philip comes to terms with the fact that he is in love with her. She of course it still upset with how things went the last time. Therefore, Philip spends the book trying to get her to love him once again. Thankfully after all the drama towards the end everything worked out for them.

This Romantic Suspense story really packs a lot of suspense. It was a refreshing read from your normal romance because there is actually a lot of story here and not just one love scene followed by another. Great character development and clean editing only added to the enjoyment of reading it.

Philip McCoy, the CEO of McCoy Security Enterprises, a billionaire and a bachelor, was very late getting to the church. He didn’t want to be here, and he had an important meeting with a client in 3 hours. His sister, Agatha, continued texting him to hurry up! Passing one of the rooms, looking for where he is supposed to be, he sees the one person he did not want to run into – the bride, Charlotte Evans. He watched her for a moment, then quietly walked past his sister’s best friend.

As Philip walked past another door, he hears two men talking about a “bad idea”. The groom, Erik, had just stated that he would not go through with the wedding. His friend, Jason, tried to change his mind because it would ruin and embarrass the bride. But Erik would not change his mind. Philip went to his seat and the wedding began. He saw Erik watching a brunette in the church pew. When the priest asked if he would take Charlotte as his wife, Erik loudly answered NO, smacked her hand away, and called her barren, insulting her in front of everyone. As Erik walked toward the brunette, Philip rose and punched him hard in his face, knocking him to the floor. Then Philip walked up to Charlotte and asked her to marry him!

This is a very good story, well-written and having a fast-paced story line. The characters are described well and the reader can see their true personalities under the pressure of the wedding disaster. Charlotte has a history with Philip from 10 years previous. She has had abuse from her father. Philip’s own actions betrayed her 10 years ago. Her trust issues are justified. But after her fiancé devastates her and jilts her at the altar, Philip steps up to make things right and take the direct pressure off of her by marrying her instead. He eventually realizes that he really does love her and has to keep her safe. The twists, turns, and surprises will keep the reader thoroughly involved in the story. Will Philip and Charlotte stay together? Will they be able to rebuild trust and find real love they can count on? Grab your copy of the book and see the dangers that come their way!

He made a mistake in college regrettably.  His second chance to fix it is by marrying jilted bride.

Philip didn't feel he was worthy of Charlotte so he broke her heart.  She loses any trust she felt for him and it sets her life in changing her outlook in men from then on.Charlotte is Agatha's best friend, Philip's younger sister since they grew up together.  Those two hung around the guys that grew up together with Philip.  That's Fergus, Zayn and Ian.  All a close knit family.  But Charlotte dropped out of sight and disappeared and no one knew where she was.  She was living a hard life.  One that broke her but also made her strong and had a gang watching over her at the bakery she worked at.  She has her own business now.  One that Agatha goes to buy her favorite treats.  The guys have had a sampling of those treats but no idea their from Charlotte's bakery. After years of having lost track of Charlotte, the next thing Philip hears from Agatha is that he is her plus one to Charlotte's wedding.  He's not happy about it but finds something odd happening at the wedding. He finds an opening and steps in by marrying the girl he fell in love with.Their story is filled with a challenge, danger, mystery, a growing love, hot relationship and humorous bickering between all the guys.  You need to read this book for all the qualities that Emelia Blair wrote so well.  This second chance romance brings characters into it that you can't help but fall in love with them all.  Recommend this book, you won't regret it.

The Wrong Groom Is Absolutely The Right Man💜💚💛💙💓

A heart pumping story that had my attention from the first page. A new author to me that fulfills all things that make a story real, heartwarming and stays with you after the last page. To say Charlotte has had a rough life is an understatement. From abuse from her father growing up, being pushed away by her first love, and now humiliated by her fiance at their wedding while he walks away with another woman. Her saving grace, if you want tho call it that, is her best friends brother Philip who steps in to marry her I the spot. Philip has loved Charolette since college but pushed her away feeling he wasn't good enough for her and has regretted it since. Now ten years later with a stoke of a pen he has managed to tie her to him for a chance to prove himself to her. Charolette trusts no man and wants to cut ties with Philip before the other shoe drops but her past is coming for her. Can Philip convince Charolette to give them a chance and prove his love before she is taken from him for good??? A must read story to add to your library. The story flows greatly, the characters feel real, and the twist in the plot will keep your attention to the end. Great job Emily's Blair!!! I've already added her other book to my library to read next.

Wonderful read highly recommend

This book was amazing and follows Philip and Charlotte. Charlotte was about to be married to another man but Philip had always loved her. After a memorable wedding that neither Charlotte or Philip would ever forget. Philip and Charlotte were now married how did that happen Charlotte was in danger but is it danger from loving Philip or another kind of danger. Twists turn and hot passion are on the menu with this exciting book. I highly recommend it

Philip arrives late to the wedding but in just enough time to save Charlotte. Charlotte is supposed to marry Erik however when he leaves her at the altar Philip steps in and takes his place. No one is more surprised at that than Charlotte. Philip knows that Charlotte is the one for him. Charlotte is afraid to believe anything Philip says because of how he treated her before. However when someone attacks her its Philip she turns to. Can Philip keep her safe from whomever is behind the threat to her? Will she give Philip another chance?

This is a great story once I started I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this story to any book lover.

Philip hadn't seen Charlotte for ten years but had always regretted the mistake he made back then. When he shows up at her wedding and the groom dumps her at the altar, he steps up and marries her. The story delves into Charlotte's past and how it intertwines with what is happening to her. Someone is out to get her and as Philip tries to rebuild his relationship with Charlotte, he and his friends are trying to find the threat to her safety. The characters were well developed and I was totally invested in them. As much as I loved Philip and Charlotte, I adored his friends. They were supportive, humorous and very close friends. I would love to see them each get books of their own.

I received a free copy of this book however all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
I really enjoyed reading this - it's such an unusual concept for a plot line and not one I'd read before, and I read a LOT of books! I also loved how little things kept being introduced into the story until it got to the point where they had so many threats they didn't know which one they came from.,I can't recommend this highly enough. In usual Emelia style, it is superbly written and the temperature between the characters is off the charts!

Great story. Phillip may have been the WRONG GROOM but he was definitely the RIGHT MAN. Romantic storyline through and through. Charlotte was jilted in the most humiliating way possible. Phillip jumped in to save the day as he had done for years. She was even more devastated. To say the least, the road to forever was not smooth. I hope you read THE WRONG GROOM, it is a wonderful story.

Romance and suspense!

I was drawn to this book because of the "fake marriage" in the title. I was pleasantly surprised to find the suspense, intrigue and mystery all neatly wrapped up in my romance novel. Ms. Blair has done an outstanding job on this book and I'm looking forward to reading more from her soon.
