Two prominent families. A six-year rivalry. A common enemy.
In this season of giving, love is in the air for the Rose and Valentine families. Because of the addition of in-laws, they both are in pursuit of new land and developments to build lasting memories with the ones they hold dear. So when they submit bids against one another, their rivalry heats to a level that will bring them to a head; until they both become outbid by a new competitor. On the heels of a love affair brewing, the need for a partnership arises that may shut down the foundation of their feud permanently, or possibly, extend it. Can the families put aside their pride to reach their ultimate goal and mend fences? Or will their feud continue with no end in sight?

I’m really enjoying this series. I would call this book more like a Christmas Special or a Book 3.5 rather than a full on Book 4 novel. It features a crossover from the author’s Rose series (which I haven’t read) but which based on reading this I could tell precedes this series because all the Rose brothers are married in this book. If you have read that series, this will be a delight as you revisit your favourite couples. But if like me you haven’t read that series, it doesn’t matter. This series doesn’t focus on any one couple but rather focuses on the various couples and broken friendships between the Roses and the Valentines. It’s a bit of a prequel for Raphael and Bree’s novel in book 5 but it’s also a time to revisit Camilla and Hunter and the other Valentines. There is the theme of male infertility in this which is unique for a romance novel and not something you see frequently because people conflagrate fertility with virility as if a romantic hero can’t have fertility issues. I wish there had been more of an exploration of this theme in this book but since the plot didn’t focus on any particularly couple but just on being like a reunion special, I understood. I didn’t understand why the King and Princesses of more or less Wakanda had a cameo in this book- maybe it’s related to another series but I didn’t think it was necessary and it was kind of an implausible plot point. I am excited for book 5 and am excited about checking out the Rose series!
This book was a nice cross over book for the Valentine and Rose family. I am happy Lance and Allison wedding was apart of this book. I need to read the Rose series because I am interested in that set of brothers. I still feel like my favorite book is the first one. I will be reading the other books in the series.
I loved this story. The Rose and Valentine men just does it for meee! Lol I actually wanted this to be longer. It was well written. And gave you what you needed. We could use another family book in the future.
A way to catch up with the Valentine family and new and old loves and what going on in Chicago. How is that riff between the Valentines and the Rose (Alexander-Rose) families are going. All with a pinch of the holiday season.
Beautiful By Design (BBD) selected a sequel theme for this book cycle. BBD is reading “In the Heart of a Valentine”, a 9-part series by author Stephanie Nicole Norris. We took an aggressive leap and decided to read both Book 4 and 5 this time. The fourth book in the series titled, Game Changing Christmas received 3.875 out of a 5-star rating by BBD. For the fifth book in the series titled, With Your Permission, received 4.75 out of a 5-star rating. For rating purposes on Goodreads, there will be two separate entries with a duplicative review. If you are on Goodreads, please feel free to read the reviews for Books 1 through 3.
Many thanks to Rewa for being the virtual host and navigating us through our discussions for both books. Kudos for providing probing questions to open up great conversation! While the world is slowly opening back up, BBD is still travelling through the virtual world of book club. And, we want to continue to give thanks to Skype for providing that virtual platform for us to come together. As always, BBD will keep it moving!
Book 4: Game Changing Christmas This book was well written and a breath of fresh air from the typical pattern of the previous books in the series. It continues to be an overall easy and quick read with some of us finishing the book in one day. We unanimously agreed as short as the book was, it was slightly overwhelming with so many newly added characters to memorize. We can appreciate the intentions of the author introducing the Rose brothers into the storyline. Some of BBD felt this book could have been eliminated because the Rose family was introduced in an earlier book, but others believe if that was done, it would have been confusing to introduce, create the drama, and resolve the years long feud. It was interwoven very well into the story and provided BBD with a small, but intimate taste of what the Rose series contain. It also shed light into why the Valentine and Rose families were feuding for so many years. It is our opinion the underlying message of Book 4 highlights the importance of communication and the result of too much testosterone. A decade of an age-old feud could have been resolved by a simple conversation perhaps. This book also introduced the blossoming relationship between Bri and Raphael which is definitely not the same pattern as the previous books. Because our series is about the Valentine Brothers, I won’t delve into the details about the Rose’s. We could not wait to see what happens between Bri and Raphael in Book 5.
Book 5: With Your Permission This book was about grief, forgiveness, and closure and took us through all of the stages the character went through to find happiness. This book went outside the norm from Books 1-3. We agreed wholeheartedly this was the best storyline in the series thus far even though we picked Philip to be the target of the drama. The development of the characters and their relationships were really well done. Although, Bri was confident of her worth as a woman in comparison to the wealthy Valentines, she had some work to do regarding her self-love. When it came to life, she had the capability to fix everything for everyone else, but could not fix herself. Hmm…maybe that’s a woman (period!). We are always readily available and giving for everyone in our lives albeit family, friends, work, but rarely stop to take care of self. There was an equal balance between the development of Bri and Raphael’s characters, the plot, and the amazing, thunder-wrenching sex scenes. The author broke up the repetitious pattern of the other books. BBD is back to being fully vested in finishing out the love stories. In one of my reviews, we were hopeful that the author would develop and/or closeout characters mentioned in the books to provide clarity on their relevance to the story as well as their relationship to the Valentines. She succeeded in doing so with Dean by adding a postscript at the end. Thank you!
In a previous review, BBD felt this series could have been one book and just longer in length to cover all the Hearts of the Valentines. Now, I am thinking it would have been a lot to keep up with from the introduction of all the different characters to the different lives each of them had. In doing so would probably make these quick reads a huge feat and not sure how attractive a 400-500 page book would have been to BBD to want to read.
Lastly, there were still some grammatical errors in both books, but did not detract from the story. However, I do want to mention, the mistakes stood out a little more in Book 4. As always, we wanted to disclose this information for transparency. See you soon for Book 6 In Pursuit of You!
Absolutely love the dynamics of a huge family story! Lance and Allison are about to get married but the Valentine vs. Rose family feud is about to turn everything upside down.
After Jonathan Rose stomped out of the peace seeking meeting, it appears the battle will continue. However, never underestimate the female side of the families. Those brilliant and courageous ladies know how to get it done!
Cute little short story! It was good catching up with the happenings of the Rose and Valentine Clan. I enjoyed the updates on my favs. Unless it’s a different series I’m not sure where this “Royal Family” came from.
Can’t wait to read book 5 I read this while I didn’t read Rose series but I definitely will and feels like Raphael and Bri are about to join my favourite couple club 💗
Enter the Rose family. I was wondering why this series was so big. The Rose family have to get their stories told as well. This short Christmas novella features the marriage of Allison and Lance. Ya'll know I loved me some Alison and Lance. It also introduced readers to the Rose family. The other prominent black family in the region. Reader finally find out why these families are mad at one another. Whew, they big mad. Will these grown men let go of a six-year rivalry to benefit not only their region but Africa as well? So much going in this short read. There is a lot of moving parts and a lot of characters but I want more.
A great Christmas story and my official introduction to the Rose Family.
The upcoming nuptials for Lance and Allison are approaching, the families are festive and all is well except the properties they are bidding on and are getting out bidded by a mysterious buyer. The same is happening to the Rose Family, every property they put a bid in for gets snatched up at the last minute by another buyer. Both families are wondering if it's the other since they are now enemies but they will soon find out that they are not the ones who are doing it, it's another person from their past. The question is why are they doing it?
The rivalry between the Valentines and the Roses is a bitter one, one that consisted of a misunderstanding gone completely wrong, one believing the other betrayed them and the other being frustrated at being accused of doing something they never did which eventually leads to the brothers siding with their own families thus causing a rift that has lasted for 6 years. But then something interesting happens, some of the Valentine wives and fiances meet the Rose wives and fiances and it will be the women who work to bring their families back together.
We also witness the budding attraction between Bri St. James and Raphael Valentine (whose full story will be released this year), they were very interesting to peek at and am patiently waiting for their story.
Camilla and Claudia bond over labor and babies, their camaraderie is great. Leave it to us women to get things done Woot! Woot!
The time has come to face the individual/s who has been outbidding both the Valentines and the Roses, they are wildly surprised by who it is but will it eventually heal the hurt between both families or will it serve to only inflame it more?
This was a great story that I really enjoyed, and I also became a huge fan of author Stephanie Nicole Norris from reading her Valentine series. Now I am about to go back to purchase the Rose family series so I can start reading about these men. I know that it will be just a great.
This is a blended novella with quick incerpts about the Roses and Valentine's AND new (maybe old? characters). I was confused at first when I started reading, as I have not yet read the Rose's series. Although, I do not think I will.
While I am enjoying the Valentine's story, I'm not one who likes repetitive characteristics amongst the characters. For instance, the Valentine's AND the Rose's have pet names for their ladies. Similarities of "love at first sight" let's take a trip to wonderland 😶🤨🙄🤔 I would've let it slide if it was only the Valentine's because they are septulets, it's probably something they learn or observed from the same household. But when the Rose's was doing it too it literally took the cuteness away...to the point of annoyance. I even found myself skipping over it.
HOWEVER, I would like to point out, I would've enjoyed this series if I would have known what I was getting into. I think a list on how the book series should be read to enjoy the full enjoyment will help with this. I've seen many authors do this, which helps and clear up confusion. If I would've known the stories were intertwine I would've been reading the Rose's along with the Valentine's.
Since I'm committed to this series, I will continue reading to the end. I'm too nosy 🤣 I wanna know what's next.

"A Game-Changing Christmas" by Stephanie Nicole Norris
My thoughts......
The author did a wonderful job at pulling in two 'prominent Black families' [The Roses and Valentines] from Chicago together that will finally be willing to work together for a good ending. Bring on new babies, new pregnancy, the wedding of Lance and Allison and other romances that are blooming and you have one perfect Christmas good read. Now it seems like a new love interest with Bri and Raphael [chemistry] coming together that we will hopefully get their story soon. Thank you to the author for catching the readers up with all of the characters from previous books that made this well written story read so very well. One can't help falling in love with all of these families and it will only leave you with a smile on your face. Thank you for such a beautiful excellent Christmas read to the author!
This was a short, but convoluted little crossover book. I was 3 books into the Valentine series and 3 books into the Rose series. Not sure if that is the best way to read them, but it is what it is.
I hadn't read the books in a while, so it took me a while to get the lay of the land. There were a LOT of people in this book. There was way too much going on at once. I didn't remember anything about the King of Whatever being in previous books. Then all of the King's children were mentioned. Between the Rose's, the Valentine's the royalty, and the spouses, I was confused.
I was kind of surprised at the way the restaurant and subsequent hospital situation played out at the beginning. Can we say too much drama? Especially between people that didn't really know one another. But, it was interesting how it worked out after I read further into the book. I was glad that the basis of Jonathan and Lance's feud was restated, because I did not remember what caused the feud.
This was a face paced read that had a lot going on, but ended in a resolution of issues, some celebratory news, a possible new beginning, and a Christmas HEA.
4 stars. This was more like a novella of slice of life moments for all of the couples so far (and a future couple) but I’m not even mad. I adored this and it was really cute. It mainly is about Claudia and Jaden who are from Norris’s Falling for a Rose series which I haven’t read yet but I’m really excited to because they are an established couple here and I need to read their book and get their backstory. I thought they were great. Claudia is very head strong and Jaden was super laid back and sweet. It was so great catching up with the Valentine men and their ladies. I especially loved seeing Hunter and Camilla from book one. No spoilers but it was super cute! This was a fun read and it sets up book five perfectly which will follow Raphael and Bri and I’m super excited to get to their story.

This book also caught you up on previous story characters in the Rose/Valentine families...that was great!
THIS ONE MAY VERY WELL BE MY FAVORITE IN THE SERIES GIVEN IT INCLUDES BOTH THE VALENTINE & ROSE FAMILIES IN BOOK 4: "A GAME-CHANGING CHRISTMAS"! I LOVE THAT MY FAVORITE COUPLE: JADEN & CLAUDIA ROSE HEAVILY FEATURED & ARE GRACED WITH A BEAUTIFUL BLESSED GIFT FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON! I WAS SOOO HAPPY FOR CLAUDIA & JADEN, BUT WONDERED WHY CLAUDIA WAS SO WORRIED & PERPLEXED ABOUT WHAT SHE & HER HUSBAND JADEN- WHO IS DESCRIBED TO BE VERY MUCH IN SUPPORT OF STARTING A FAMILY-WOULD FEEL ABOUT WHAT THEY WERE ABOUT TO BECOME! The other couple I believe is Bri St. James & Raphael Valentine, which sets up for ITHOAV Book 5. THANK YOU STEPHANIE NICOLE NORRIS FOR THIS BOOK & DEVELOPING MY FAVORITE COUPLE JADEN & CLAUDIA FORM THEIR "GOOD ENOUGH" (FFAR)BOOK! I LOVED JADEN & CLAUDIA'S LOVE SOTRY SO MUCH THAT I PURCHASED BOTH THE BOOK & AUDIO BOOK! I WOULD LOVE IT IF YOU CONTINUED WITH JADEN & CLAUDIA IN A DIFFERENT BOOK IN THE SERIES!
This one was a round about way of filling in the story line of the rivalry of two big power house families in Chicago. While also filing in the missing pieces of all of the previous story lines.
Following the love story of Allison’s and Lances wedding planning and giving more insight to Raphael and Bri. Raphael being a a Valentine brother and Bri being the long best friend of Allison.
Raphael shows up with some baggage that’s hard to ignore with all the love in the air. He finds way to move around and opening up to experience for the 1st time in a long time.
Bri is a great friend and wedding planner. With everything always calculated and delegated. The journey to trying to move in the feeling of needing to be there for each other with knowing each others deal. Seems like they are up next. With the two rival families finding out the truth behind the beef is a turn of events.
You literally will go through this series with only these story’s on your mind.
I am so glad that the Roses and the Valentines are no longer feuding with each other
I gave this book a four star rating because there were some errors throughout the book that made it kind of hard to understand what the author was trying to say. I'm so glad that the Roses men and the Valentines men got over the misunderstanding that caused them to feud with each other to begin with. I love how all the women who fall in love with the Roses men and the Valentines men would do anything for their significant others to help them in any way that they can. I love how perfect gentleman the men of both families treat their wives, girlfriends and/or fiancées; they treat them all with love & respect and also cherish the ground that they walk on. I would definitely reread this book again and again as well as the rest of the series.
I started this 8/30; not even sure when I finished it or how many times though I know I did - but I'm writing this 12/12/2020
:X I know there was a big Valentine and Rose meeting - at the mall(?) And also while they were trying to buy the land and such but ...
Other than the women getting along but not the men I remember so little. [Am not even entirely sure how long it took me to listen to it; I think I even listened to it more than once but am not sure - since I did more book reading at the time...]
... so yeah.
SINCE August though - I've listened to more Valentine and Rose books I think - so there is that!
I will say again though - SNN T_T you need an editor/a better editor. Great characters and story. But the writing needs to technical work.
Jonathan and Lance's Feud The freak out in the opening was ridiculous. Now I'll say that may be because I just discovered these characters this week and am not familiar with the Rose women. I'll be going back and reading Falling for a Rose. At any rate, imagining a grown woman, married with a husband that speaks often of children and his desire for them is what made the doubt and meltdown ridiculous. And just didn't fit the couple. This was a good catch up to give a you glimpse of what the couples were up to now. A baby was born, a wedding, the promise of new love between 2 couples Kyle/London Raphael and Bri and most importantly the feud between Jonathan and Lance was addressed.

Lol it was too short but had so much going on it was perfect!! I can’t wait to read Bri and Raphael’s story because the two of them have been dancing around each other for awhile. I loved getting the update on just about everyone and the real reason for the feud! That was intense but so happy it finally came out and as soon as it did was rectified!! I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next with the new family and the very few of the Rose’s and Valentines she has left to write about.
I have to read the Valentine series because the way the sensual scenes were heating up in this Christmas story were very delightful. I love stories of this nature. Filled with love, friendships, rivalry, unique cute meets and life lessons. I have to say I enjoyed the Rose series, but I forgot about the rivalry between the two families but I'm going to rectify this right now. I'm glad they squashed the feud. I'm waiting to hear more about Ralphael and Bri. Love the storylines. Great Read! ReneeG 👍
Unfortunately, I haven’t read about the Roses, but to have two prominent families of strong black men was very exciting. The feud between the two families lasted too Lin and it actually was not warranted. Lance Valentine and Jonathan Rose were so headstrong that they allowed their brotherly friendship to be ruined simply because they did not communicate with each other. I loved that their women plotted to get them back together and it actually happened. Now I’m looking forward to read about Bri and Raphael.
I loved the way that the author brought the families together, it was like poetry the way the women connected and formed relationships; the way they wanted their men happy, so they planned situations to ensure that they could trash out their differences, I loved Lance's sacrifice; it was a joy to see his growth and though it was a fight Johnathan's acceptance and ultimate forgiveness was profound. Totally enjoyed the passionate and sensuous scenes and am looking forward to Bri and Raphael's story. It should be hot!!
I love this story and had to leave a message to the author this time around! I fell in love with the valentines and so happy the feud between the 2 families are over I can’t put the books down and I will read every book written by the author your mind is amazing and I can’t wait to see Bri and Rafael story It’s so passionate and real it reminds me of me and my husband love and I’m a sucker for romance and love it’s a beautiful thing I highly recommend this read to any and everyone that loves romance and love
The Roses and Valentines together, yes please! Just imagine being in a room with all these brothers...SWOON!!! Loving that the 2 families/series were intertwined and have now resolved their feud. We also got a glimpse of Lance and Allison's wedding and the beginning stages of Brie and Raphael's relationship. SNN did a great job in writing everyone's story and tying them all together. Having Wesleigh Siobhan and Jakobi Diem narrate these series was a great choice, can never go wrong with #WesKobi
