This Year, Christmas Comes Just in Time

But because Miss Callie reminds him of his own mother, whom he failed miserably in her last days, he can’t say no when she keeps calling him for rides. Once a successful gourmet chef, Finn’s biggest concern now is making his rent, but half the time Callie doesn’t remember to pay him. And as she starts to feel better, she leads him on wild goose chases to find a Christmas date for her granddaughter.

When Finn meets Sydney, he’s quite sure that she’s never needed help finding a date. Does Miss Callie have an ulterior motive, or is this just a mission driven by delusions? He’s willing to do whatever he can to help fulfill Callie’s Christmas wish. He just never expected to be a vital part of it.

Terri Blackstock is a New York Times best-seller, with over seven million books sold worldwide.. She has had over thirty years of success as a novelist.

Terri spent the first twelve years of her life traveling in a U.S. Air Force family. She lived in nine states and attended the first four years of school in The Netherlands. Because she was a perpetual “new kid,” her imagination became her closest friend. That, she believes, was the biggest factor in her becoming a novelist. She sold her first novel at the age of twenty-five, and has had a successful career ever since.

In 1994 Terri was writing romance novels under two pseudonyms for publishers such as HarperCollins, Harlequin, Dell and Silhouette, when a spiritual awakening prompted her to switch gears. At the time, she was reading more suspense than romance, and felt drawn to write thrillers about ordinary people in grave danger. Her newly awakened faith wove its way into the tapestry of her suspense novels, offering hope instead of despair. Her goal is to entertain with page-turning plots, while challenging her readers to think and grow. She hopes to remind them that they’re valued by God and that their trials have a purpose.

Well my 5th year reading this wonderful book and it keeps getting better and better!! If you want to read it or you have I suggest listening to it on Audiobooks. They have it on Libby. The narrator is excellent and I love the voice of Miss Callie, you will really get more into this book than what you did when reading it. I try to read this book at the start of the Christmas season so I am early, but I can't help it the book is amazing!! So read and enjoy Fin, Sydney, and of course the amazing Miss Callie. The best Christmas book I have ever read!!!!! Highly recommend!!!!!

Like eating sweet and salty together, this timely Christmas story has a palate-pleasing balance to ward off a sugar high. When a taxi-driving, Uber-hating, former chef (Finn) gets a call to pick up a woman in a wheelchair (Callie) and take her to the doctor -- we fall in love. Callie is sentimental, bossy, a bit manipulative, and forgetful; but she has a plan and it revolves around her dear granddaughter, Sydney. Finn at first tries to avoid driving Callie around, but is soon finding himself irresistibly drawn to her and her simple faith. Told in alternating POV of Finn and Sydney. I can see why this was a Christie Award winner last year. Fans of Richard Paul Evans will also enjoy this standalone from Terri Blackstock.

{Might not be an easy read for those sensitive to deaths of loved ones, seeing the death of a loved one, and/or cancer-related deaths.}

I’ve heard a lot of hype for this Christmas novella from book friends, and in all honesty, I’ve been pushing it off because of said hype. Oops. Sorry, y’all. I’m finally getting around to read it and while I can see why so many friends like this book, I have mixed feelings on it.

I thought that both Finn and Sydney were very bitter in the beginning half of the story and though they “wake up” if you will after an important event/news, they quickly did a 180. I think that’s because of the realization of what’s truly important in life, which makes sense and we need those reminders every now-and-then. The romance between the felt very rushed and out-of-the-blue in terms of their emotions towards the other and what was happening.

This was actually my first book by this author (despite having multiple books by her on my TBR) and overall it was fine. I liked the author’s note at the end about the Bible having the true answer for happiness.

I’ll give this book props that even though it dealt with a sad topic of an older woman dying, it wasn’t very depressing. I think I would have preferred more faith content from her, but there was more towards the end. Personally, I enjoyed “The Extraordinary Deaths of Mrs. Kips” by Sara Brunsvold better, but this one wasn’t bad either, I suppose.

This is my first book I've read by Terri Blackstock and it certainly won't be my last. I have never read a Christmas novel that destroyed my heart, but Catching Christmas by Terri Blackstock did just that. This story had me hooked from the very first page and I could NOT put it down. The story is very easy to follow through and it won't let you down.

Sydney Batson is a first-year law associate who will be updating her resume by New Year's. Sydney lost her mother when she was very young, she was then left with her father who wanted to cut off ties with Sydney's grandma Callie. When Sydney's boss calls them in for a meeting they learn that a bunch of the other law associates will be let go. When Miss Callie gets very ill while Sydney is in court, Sydney arranges for a cab to take Miss Callie to the doctor.

Finn Parrish was a gourmet chef but then things started going downhill and caused him to leave and find a new job. Finn becomes a cab driver so he can afford to pay his rent. The last thing Finn wants is to be Miss Callie's personal driver because she forgets to pay him half of the time. But then Miss Callie starts to remind Finn of his own mother who passed away, but Finn can't find himself to say no to Miss Callie. As Miss Callie starts to feel better, she leads Finn on a wild goose chase to find a Christmas date for her granddaughter Sydney.

I won't say anymore because I don't want to ruin the entire story, but all I can say is get a cozy blanket and a box of tissues and dive into this heartbreaking Christmas story.

The synopsis sounded interesting. However, I wasn't impressed.
1.) It was written in first person present tense. From two different perspectives. Yeah, Finn and Sidney both had chapters "written by them" and since it was present tense, it was a little difficult to feel any connection to them.
2.) It was sad and somewhat depressing to read. Not what I really want when I pick up a Christmas book.
3.) The Christianity, besides being vague and not biblical, was stuck in there in an odd way. Sort of like it had to be thrown in somehow to make it a "christian" book.
4.) I found myself wanting to push Sidney aside at work and talk for her because her bosses were jerks, and so was the guy she was supposedly defending in court.
5.)
6.) I didn't really like Finn or Sidney all that much. And when you don't really like the main characters, well, the story just isn't good.
I did like Callie. And I was so glad that so many others did too.

I don't recommend this book unless you enjoy the things I don't, and won't be reading it again.

Wow, 5 stars! What a heartwarming Christmas read with a sweet romance. I absolutley loved Finn most of all. The journey he takes in this story is beautiful. The ending was top tier for me. This story is all about cab driver, once gourmet chef, Finn Parrish, who is forced to continue driving around Miss Callie, a spunky grandmother with health and memory problems that appear to be dementia. Miss Callie's granddaughter, Sydney, is so busy in court as a first year law associate that she is struggling to meet the needs of her grandmother, Miss Callie. She calls a cab to help her grandmother and that's how Finn meets Miss Callie. The story goes on from here as Finn tries to keep up with Miss Callie, meets Sydney and realizes just how much help he can be to them.

Ya'll, this is a tear jerker! I laughed, cried and felt so connected to our characters. It was just magical and captured my heart. I was reminded of beautiful memories of my grandmother's. I loved the faith content in this as well.

Trigger Warnings: If you have a loved one with dementia or struggle reading a story about loss of loved one at Christmas time, this could be a bit of difficult read for some, so I wanted to mention that.

Catching Christmas was such a cute read! I've liked several of Terri Blackstock's suspense novels, so I was curious to see how enjoyable her first Christmas story would be...I was pleasantly surprised and really liked the book.

The characters were realistic and I liked the message of the book. The grandma was awesome and I loved how she played matchmaker for her granddaughter. The book did get a little emotional at times, but that made it believable.

The ending was fitting and I definitely recommend the book. If you like Christmas stories, be sure to pick up a copy of this sweet read.

This was such a wholesome story! I could 100% see this turned into a movie!

I know the main concept was Callie touching so many people’s live, and I loved that!!
But I felt Sydney was on the selfish/defensive side and it made it hard for me to really root for her. I felt like there was a lot of paper time given to a court case that didn’t really feel important enough to leave her sick grandmother. While I understand the “gotta make it in the big league” thought process it didn’t really feel like her character had a reason to feel that way. There was no back story to her being a workaholic, or not being able to get another job at a different firm.

Finn was crabby and kinda rude, and honestly it didn’t feel like there was a distinct reason for his constant attitude. He was just super rough around the edges. But I did enjoy seeing him slowing round out a *tiny* bit.

While Callie loved the Lord, I wish Sydney & Finn would’ve had more paper time finding Him again. I know they both said a few prayers, but I wish there was more build up there.

It really was a sweet story! And I did enjoy it, and I’m glad i read it this year! I can see why it’s loved by so many. (I’m just being super picky about characteristics)

I devoured this book and was left wanting more. I laughed and cried I was blown away.

The best romance you will read this holiday season.

If you only buy one Christmas book this year, This is the one you will want to read and reread each year.

I gave this book 5 stars two times. I HIGHLY recommend this book.

A lady with dementia in her eighties made this book. While Callie hasn't lost her ability to order others around, she has definitely lost her filter. I found myself laughing out loud at some of the things she said.

I didn't get a spark of romance between Finn and Sydney, but did enjoy the revelations they made about themselves and what is important in life.

Overall, a good Christmas novel.

I grabbed the audio book on a whim, and I'm so glad I did. This is a wonderful novella. The characters are a hoot and face such true-to-life situations. I adored Miss Callie, and Finn Parish is just such a great character. This is the kind of Christmas story that needs it's own movie, in my opinion. Not too saccharine and appealing to more than just romantics. A worthy addition to your Christmas reading (or in my case, listening!).

I've read a lot of Terri Blackstock‘s suspense/murder mysteries, but this is the first just-plain-fun novel I’ve read by her. I can’t say enough how much I enjoyed it. This author is very funny. Who knew? I listened to this audiobook and giggled... often.

Sydney Batson, an overworked attorney with a great deal of pressure on her shoulders, called a taxi company to pick up her grandmother to take her to her doctor appointment since she was to be in court at that time.

Finn Parrish shows up to find a very old woman who was confused about the taxi driver at her door. Somehow, and after hours of waiting, Miss Callie saw the doctor only to learn she had a lot of work to do before this particular Christmas.

The next day, and the next, and the next, Finn was called to take Miss Callie on errand after errand, getting increasingly frustrated with his client's granddaughter for her negligence. This poor woman was clearly suffering from who knows what and needed to be looked after.

Okay, this doesn’t sound lighthearted, or fun, but it really was. Miss Callie was a gem with an increasing filter issue. And down deep, the surly Finn had a heart of gold. And the unique relationships between lawyer-granddaughter, cabdriver and Grammy were just precious.

Full disclosure… When a recording near the end was played? And passages from Miss Callie's Bible were read? And the special love she had for Christ was displayed? I cried. Pert near bawled. Cleansing.

(No "language" was used but a very frustrated Finn told someone to shut up. That confused me, but I let it go.) The book was a bit secular sounding until anything with Miss Callie came into play. And near the end that secular thought will completely disappear.

This audiobook was read by Sarah Zimmerman who did an absolute fantastic job on Miss Callie‘s voice. You would have thought you were listening to a little old southern lady. I’d love to know how she perfected that sound. Brilliant!

Anyway, this book was delightful. Great Christmas read. In fact, since I own it, I think I might just turn around and listen to it again with my earbuds as I complete my pre-Thanksgiving preparations.

Grammy Callie reminds me of my Grandma Cleo. Not afraid that what comes out when she means well, will totally embarrass said grandchild. And the little laugh after said embarrassment is what I remember most and cherish.

This was a cute little story of a grandma, just before her last Christmas, trying to make it memorable for her granddaughter because she feels she hasn't before. Namely, find her a boyfriend so she doesn't spend further Christmases alone. Enter taxi driver, Finn, and after running Grammy Callie all over to doctor's appointments, the dry cleaners, shopping, and multiple other exasperating errands. I think Grammy Callie knew right away he was the one and was just keeping him at arms length for when her granddaughter needed him most.

I don't know why I have waited so long to read this one, but glad I did. It was the feel good book for the beginning of the Christmas season.

Due to the topics of dementia in this book and I am not able to finish it at the present time. I personally have a close family member struggling with dementia and it’s been quite hard to read about it. I love the story otherwise and I was so excited to read it. I’m hoping I am able to next year.. I just emotionally cannot finish it at this time. 🤍

Y'all! I knew Terri Blackstock was a master storyteller with suspense thrillers, but I had no idea that she could write romantic chic lit. This book had me literally laughing out loud. I was cracking up at Finn, the hero of this book. Then, I was crying real tears down my cheeks at the gymn walking on the treadmill. I couldn't help it. This book was an absolute delight to read. I could not put it down. This is an endearing Christmas story with the message of Jesus with a HEA. This story will tickle your funny bone and warm your heart. My conclusion is that Terri Blackstock can write anything. No matter if it's a spine chilling suspense or a sweet and inspirational romance.

Spectacular Christmas novel and so unlike anything else I've read by Terri Blackstock! I enjoyed the huge surprise that is this story because it's kind of what I anticipated and totally not! And it's the totally not part that I really want to talk about but I can't because that would mean posting spoilers galore which is not cool. Gah! Such a reviewer dilemma! Let's just say that Catching Christmas impacted me in ways I wasn't expecting. Really brought the meaning of the holiday home along with the sacredness of savoring relationships, appreciating every day moments and the magnificent way Jesus works within each of us. Plus, it's outrageously funny in places. Can't ask for more in a Christmas read!

This cute ba-hum-bug, enemies-to-lovers Christmas novel will melt your heart with the simple things that make Christmas magical!

The star of this story will make you laugh and cry with her wit, non-filtered remarks, and unfailing love. She certainly captured my heart and reminded me of a sweet dear friend that I am so grateful I had the pleasure to know.

Finn Parish is a cab driver. Miss Callie is a lady with dementia in a wheelchair. She calls for a cab one day and the adventures begin. Finn doesn't really want to be saddled with this old lady but she also reminds him of his mother.

It is Sydney Batson's first year as a law student. When her grandmother gets ill unexpectedly while she has to be in court, she reluctantly sends her in a cab to the clinic.

I don't want to give any spoilers so I will stop there.

I had to sigh when Catching Christmas was over. I really didn't want it to end. I don't know what better compliment you can pay an author. I laughed. I cried. I enjoyed every minute with Callie, Sydney and Finn. I truly enjoyed all of these characters. I thought Catching Christmas was a sweet novella that left me with a happy feeling that I read it. I would recommend it to anyone needing a dose of Christmas cheer. I also liked that there are discussion questions in the back of the book and it is well worth the reader's time to read the author's note and acknowledgements for Catching Christmas.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review.

In this sweet, heart-tugging story, readers will examine what truly matters at Christmas. Woven with humor and told in the first person narrative, Catching Christmas follows the exploits of an elderly lady named Callie and her “driver”, Finn.

There is a light thread of romance in this story, yet it appears fairly late to the novel, so the focus of this book is really on the relationship that develops between Finn, who is the cab driver, and Callie, the elderly lady who is definitely experiencing memory problems. Throw in Sydney, a harried and overworked granddaughter, and it is a recipe for an emotional and memorable Christmas season.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

“Catching Christmas” is a wonderful holiday read with realistic characters and scenarios that made me feel a wide range of emotions. With very minimal romance toward the end of this book, this story's main focus is on the moving and amusing interactions between cab driver Finn and the old lady with dementia, Miss Callie, which I loved to read about. I found this book difficult to put down and didn't want it to end.

If you like endearing and inspirational Christmas stories that make you laugh and cry, and that really tug at your heartstrings, I highly recommend you read "Catching Christmas."

I received this book from NetGalley and the book's publisher in exchange for my honest review, for which I am very grateful.

I really enjoyed this cute Christmas novella. Finn was a great character and the story had some depth to it without being too heavy. I chuckled a lot as I read it, and took some tender moments to heart. (Miss Callie reminded me so much of my own grandma.) I also loved the author’s note, at the end of the novella, about how and where true happiness is derived from. I think readers who enjoy Donna VanLier’s Christmas books will also enjoy this fun and touching story.

I have to admit. I'm not a big Terri Blackstock fan—only because I'm not a suspense fan. I like sweet, mostly light-hearted stories that I can fall asleep to. Well, this was one of the sweet ones. It had great characters and a perfect ending!

The only thing I didn't like was the point of view switching back and forth every chapter from Finn to Sydney. It was done well and labeled obviously, but it was just a little jarring for me to go back and forth from one first-person POV to another – maybe because the voice of Finn was so much more interesting, more troubled and unique. And it was through his eyes that we got to know Callie. When we heard from Sydney, she seemed like an outsider to the main story. I really didn't care about her thoughts, mostly about her court case. I think it would have been a perfect story if the story had been told from Finn's perspective.

“'I'm afraid I can't do that, Miss Callie. I'm not set up to carry trees. No can do.' An hour later, I”m driving away from the Christmas tree lot with a six-foot tree netted on my roof.” (p. 107)

“I look down at her, trying to think of something quippy to say, but then I realize this isn't a quippy moment. Suddenly I want to kiss her, and in spite of myself and the warring responses in my brain, I lean over and just do it.” (p. 211)

“It's as if the clouds break on a hurricane day, as if the sun comes out to dry up the floods. It's as if there are four rainbows encircling me, as if it's early Christmas Day.” (p. 273)

What a wonderful way to start my Christmas binge reading. This book will carry you through every emotion you can imagine. This book will grab you by the heart and keep you there until the very end.
The three main characters were each incredible in their own way. Miss Callie is 80 years old and suffering from ill health and early dementia. Feisty, caring, and a strong Christian, she tells it like it is. Finn Parrish is an ex-haute cuisine chef now working as a cab driver whose life becomes entwined with Miss Callie's when he is called to take her to a doctor's appointment. With a heart of gold, he never knew what hit him and didn't realize how much Miss Callie would change his life. Sydney, Callie's granddaughter, is caught up in trying to take care of her grandmother but keep her job as a first year lawyer at a large law firm as well. Torn between the two, she isn't doing a very good job of either.

Priorities, second chances, and forgiveness all serve wonderful places throughout this novel. I guarantee you won't finish it without laughing, crying, and every emotion in between. If you only read one Christmas book this year, this has to be on your TBR list.

**I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. Opinions are mine alone. I was not compensated for this review.

I absolutely love the cover!
It caught me from the first and having read the story,
it's definitely a cue to the quirky fun of taxi driver Finn!
Capably captivating writing of a pro, my laughter rang loud
and my tears flowed generously.
A do.not.miss for this season's reading!
Thank you!
to the talented, Terri Blackstock!
