Werelock Evolution #5

Just Like Animals

Rate this book
For ten long years, I stayed away to protect her.

I thought I’d successfully subverted my wolf’s instincts where Bethany was concerned.

But when I saw her on that dance floor, my inner beast took over.

I told myself it would be just one dance. One dance and I’d let her go.

I didn’t mean to bite her.

Or f*ck her in the middle of a crowded dance club.

Or kidnap her… again.

I'm not into paranormal reads at all. In fact this one was my very first one ever! Something in the blurb caught my attention and after reading the 4 & 5 star reviews, I thought what the heck - let me try!

First of, this is part of a series but it can read as a standalone and thank the man upstairs because I have no patience for series - at all!

Raul is a character that comes of as a self centered, egotistical asshat at first, but deep down he is a softie - especially of how he feels for his human mate Bethany.

Bethany is a heroine that I loved! She is sassy, has no filter and just plain funny. She had the best comeback lines I ever read! The two together were truly magic and I haven't said that in a very long time - if ever in any of my romances! Those sex scenes (and there are a lot of them), are off the page hot!

So yes, people, I did enjoy it and recommend to anyone who likes - or doesn't like, this type of paranormal reads.....

“I’m more like … a manny.”
“Come again?”
“A manny. You know, as in a male nanny?”
“Oh. That’s so … progressive of you.” “So sensitive of you …”
“That’s right, Bethy.” His breath was warm against my ear. “I’m still the same sweet, progressive, male-feminist surfer who grew up down the street from you in Santa Cruz.”
“You were never that sweet.” I was panting. “You fucked most of my babysitters.”

I am so angry with Hettie right now, it's not even funny. I loath Raul, always have, and she goes and gives him such an amazing mate like Bethany. A feisty, funny, doesn't deal with basic bitches, Bethany. I couldn't think of anyone more undeserving than Raul.

THEN, she has the audacity to create scenes that are so intimate and cute between the two of them, I found myself smiling at how perfect they were as a couple. WTF?! Who does that?! I was perfectly fine in my feelings for Raul, the bullshitting bastard. Still am by the way. He's too conniving to be trusted. Plus, the guy thinks in hashtags, enough said.

Fair warning, this book is dirty, Hettie doesn't hold back as the book opens up with Raul seeing his mate on the dance floor of a club, and Bethany coming on his hands during a dance together, leading to the best line ever, "Holy baby Jesus in a filthy fucking manger." Bethany has some of the best lines in this book.

Don't expect a weak character from Bethany, she goes toe to toe with Raul, leading to him having to drug and kidnap her, just to get his own way, typical. I mean really, are we surprised? That would be the only way Raul could get someone as amazing as Bethany to be with him.

Just Like Animals is a fast paced dirty ride! It’ll leave you wanting more, if you’re an unapologetically greedy reader, like me. One click this book, call in sick, lock the doors, draw the blinds, and enjoy!

Just Like Animals is a fabulously fun paranormal romantic comedy which continues the cleverly layered story-line of the magical werewolf series, The Werelock Evolutions!

Three words encapsulate my feelings for this 5 Star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ delight:

SEXY. FUNNY. INGENIOUS.

Let’s be honest ladies ... you know those tantalizing passages from your absolute favourite romances that you highlight for revisiting in the future - over, and over, and over again? Well, knock-me-over-the-head-with-a-unicorn-vibrator if the opening chapters of Just Like Animals didn’t just jump to the TOP OF MY LIST of orgasm-inducing inspirational material. THAT’S how much I loved the ultra-hot sexiness that was the explosive consummation of a decade-long build-up of sexual tension between Bethany and Raul.

”My childhood crush was now a powerful, magical werewolf creature ... I knew I’d let him do just about anything he wanted to me. I pretty well already had.”

Bethany was introduced to the werelock world ten years ago, when her best friend, Milena Caro, fell in love with the Alpha of the powerful Reinoso clan and became their new leader. Milena had to order the erasure of Bethany’s memories when Bethany asserted that she couldn’t bear to keep Milena’s secrets while being excluded from her BFF’s magical world. The side effect of that decision was the loss of Bethany’s emotional connection with Milena’s brother Raul. But Raul has never forgotten Bethany, and their reunion is full of as much hilarity as there is lust!

”I — I’m on call this weekend.” ”I’m happy to pay by the hour.” “Being on call at the hospital doesn’t work like that. I’m in medicine, not prostitution.”

But seriously, the foundation that ties this series together is the prophecy of the impending apocalyptic rise of the super-werelock, The Rogue, and how the rival clans of Raul’s Salvatella Pack and Milena’s Reinoso Pack are dealing with the major players. Should The Rogue be destroyed, or protected? Who is right, who is wrong? How do we recognize evil?

”There are no eternal facts, as there are no absolute truths.

Scattered amongst the slapstick are metaphysical gems that elevate this story from fun rom-com to full on book lover’s epic. Raul and Milena’s sibling “Cold War” gets a thoughtful treatment with Bethany getting caught between them. In order to get that fifth star from me, I’m looking for the intelligence and multi-layered depth that Hettie Ivers delivers here once again. This is an amazing series! I really, really enjoyed this.

Ok Hettie I'm all caught up with the series and I'm ready for the Seer to be released!
If you guys have been following my reviews then you know I have been devouring this series for the last few days. I cannot believe I let these books sit in my library for so long before reading them.
Just Like Animals is another delicious installment to the Werelock series. The storyline is fun, dirty and intense. I was actually a little wary prior to reading because this is Raul's story. Without dropping spoilers, I'll just say that he has not been one of my favored characters.
Regardless I jumped into the book, devouring it just like the previous ones and I loved it. So if you have not read this series then you need to get on it. I have raves enough about the books in my previous reviews so I will just reiterate what i have already said. Buy the books and enjoy the wonderful and fun werelock world that Hettie Ivers has created for your reading pleasure.

Intense, humorous, scorching hot and with all the feels, there is nothing not to like about Just Like Animals. This is one of those rare books that ticked all my boxes. I fell in love with Bethany and Raul as much as I fell in love with one of Hettie Ivers’ many superpowers – her unique, sassy sense of humor. Add to that superb writing, perfect pace, brilliant skill, an edge-of-your-seat, well-thought-out plot, and romance with the exact right mix of sexual tension, blow-up-in-your-face steam, delicious push-and-pull, and a male and female lead you can’t help but root for, and the result is one of my all-time favorite paranormal reads.

ARC. Nuff’ said.

While errone is saying ole’ Raul is a twatbiscuit, I am leaning back and claiming him. Something seriously is wrong with me. I am sure at some point, I absolutely loathed Raul and if I am being honest his name sucks and I catch myself calling him Ragu. Nonetheless, creepy-stalker-psycho brother has moved up a couple notches in my I’d-do-them-book-boyfriend list.

description
The sound track to this book is Selena Gomez “Can’t Keep my hands to myself”

In true Hettie Ivers fashion, she is melting panties around the world one book and one line at a time. I am not much of a blusher, it could be:
my skin tone
me being a nurse
having 2 daughters
some rather blunt, if not creative friends who just spew shit
or
my off the chain husband
that has caused my non-ability to blush. Or at least that is what I thought. HOWEVER, Werelock Evoluition series can change my normal olive skin tone to a nice shade of magenta in just a few words.

Yes, this is a series, but with Hettie’s handy ability to write and have books flow so seamlessly, all of the books in this series can be read as standalones. With that being said, I would highly recommend reading Alex and Milena, they are my and will always be my fav out of the bunch.

Ragu Raul is the boy who grew up down the street, the one you looked at from a far. He really is an all about me twat, with his schmexy smile and confident swagger.
Bethany is Ragu Raul’s sisters (Milena) best friend and the ultimate forbidden toy. She is sarcastic, witty and the light to R’s dark. A perfect match.

Their connection is all hands-on deck and their chemistry is hands down hot. description

This is another fast moving book, with Larry Flint undertones, and nothing short of a damn good ride. Let me give a guiding hand, READ THIS BOOK. If you haven’t read the series, READ THE FUCKING SERIES.

Leave your panties at the door because Raul will rip them right off you!

Hettie Ivers has delivered an intensely sexy story which is packed with heat, drama and some exciting new characters as well as plenty of familiar faces.

The sex was intense, passionate and plot driving, it didnt feel over the top or unnecessary. It was perfect for Raul the randy werelock haha.

Bethy was interesting, I loved delving into her persona and learning about her more as a character and her past. She had alot of resilience and I really admired that in her character.

Raul has alot more depth than he appears to and in spite or his overtly asshole personality and past I founs myself really loving his character. Props to the author for turning me around on him!

This series just gets more and more intense and intersting as it goes along. The pacing was perfect and the plot engaging and I inhaled this story as much as the previous books in this world/series.

The world and characters and Hettie Ivers ability to keep me hooked never fails to amaze me. Rereadable to the max, they are one of my go to for a paranormal book fix!

I loved the fast-paced story and Bethany's character, but I wished I had read the previous books of the series beforehand. Raul is an intriguing character and I am sure that I would have understood better his depth if I had followed his story from book 1. Nevertheless I really enjoyed the book!

I ‘discovered’ Hettie Ivers approximately 2 months ago. Bored with all my current authors & looking for a new source to fulfill my ever ending need for the unattainable, I found her flipping thru some books online hoping for something to catch my eye. Oddly, it wasn’t the book cover or blurb that drew me. It was her first name! I was intrigued! To say I’m a bit of an older person would be complimentary. That being said, Hettie’s name is an old and revered name. So, that’s all it took & I was hooked! I read The Trilogy within four days. Same thing for No Light... only it took hours. Hettie was feeding my inner shameless old soul. I couldn’t get enough!

Almost forgot... we’re doing a review of JLA! This book is hot, hot, hot! It’s explosive! OMG, the first chapter about gave me ... well, never mind... that’s a bit personal. It was so fucking hot. RAUL! I’m blown away, actually I fell off the sofa. Hettie’s ability to create the infinite male sexual creature we needed is unequaled. She brought the reader into the male psyche & showed us exactly, in detail, what we women, as the sexual creatures that we are, what we need to see, hear & feel in all aspects of a hot piece a ass! For me, Raul did all the ‘feels’ quite thoroughly. I am replete! Until, her next release! It’s gonna be difficult but I’ll just keep re-reading Chapter One over & over & over. Okay, girls! This is it! Now go out there a get your Raul too! And while you’re there pick up Hettie’s previous sexual releases! You won’t be disappointed!!!!

Hettie Ivers does it Again!!
I’ve only started reading her books since May and I’m Hungry for More....please!!
My favorite thing about Hettie’s writing is that she proves one can create intelligent, articulate, hilarious characters with depth and Still be off the charts SEXY!!
This installments (#5) of her Werelock series can truly be read as a standalone novel. Bethy and Raul’s story is incredibly Hot (you’ve been warned) in chapter one alone be sure you have access to a cold shower or your significant other!!! It’s a whirlwind adventure that is filled with sass, a trip to Argentina, world class smack downs of a cheating fiancé, a scary painty melting werelock physician(Rafe💕) and a possessive werelock alpha trying to convince his mate that he’s not kidnapping her...he’s rescuing her. 🙄
Truly...it took me longer to read this one because Hubby was away on business and it was just too frustrating to keep going without him!

Okay once again, Hettie has gripped me! I just love her story, her world, her characters and how sexy these books in the Werelock Evolution series are. This is the 5th book in the series (a companion to the first three books) that centers around Milena's bestfriend and her brother. It's jammed pack with a lot of sexy time and humor.

Raul is a character I seriously hated throughout the series. He's conniving, ruthless, rude and downright stupid. However, in this book his heart is revealed, his humanity is slightly seen and his love for his sister is shown. Though I still despise him, I must say my heart broke slightly for him. He was funny, hot and ruthless to the end. He did become a softy slightly.

Bethany is still a funny girl to me! I just love her to pieces. She's a bit more vulnerable in this book than the others, but she still is spunky and sarcastic as ever. I loved getting to know her more and seeing the inner workings of her mind. Bethany is perfect!

The romance was instant but with 10 years apart -- and those being years Bethany can't remember -- what more could you expect. One night of dancing changed their lives and Beth's DNA forever. I can sum up their relationship in a few words: dangerously passionate. Sex, sex and more steamy, hot paranormal sex. I mean their relationship was very sexual, but then again 10 years of pent up anger and desire, it's to be expected.

I loved the appearance of my faves Milena, Alex, Al and Kai -- I mean they are essential to this world and OMG Mil was preggers, I cannot explain the joy I felt. Al is still an idiot, but handsomely so. Kai shocked me, especially that ending! Oh my, the 6th book Seer is going to be a definite MUST read.

I'm pretty much bias to this series because I've loved it from the beginning and I adore Hettie's writing. Seriously, in my head Hettie is like my best-friend (shhhhh, don't tell her). If you're looking for a new paranormal romance to get into that's packed with action, sexy time and a bit of suspense pick up the whole series! You will not regret it!

Wow talk about a hot dance floor scene! This is my first book by this author and man is it an unforgettable story. I will definitely be starting the series from the beginning. This is a well written, humorous read with characters that have sizzling chemistry. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Fabulous read

I haven't read something so scorching hot and hilarious funny as Just Like Animals: A Werelock Evolution Series Standalone Novel in a very long time.
Offbeat, original, fast paced with so much heat that had me taking cold showers and having whole body squirming episodes ;) in a minute and laughing my head of the next ; this story caught my attention and imagination and never let go of it.
This is my first book by this author and I am beyond thrilled to find out there are more books interconnected to Just Like Animals. Looking forward reading them all.

Just Like Animals was my first book by Hettie Ivers and I found myself drawn into the story immediately. Even though this was part of a series I still enjoyed the book without having read the previous books. Raul and Bethany chemistry and banter back and forth kept me interested without feeling like I was missing out on some major back story. As the story progresses they let you in on their past history. I loved how Bethany gave him hell and she wasn't afraid to tell him what she wanted in life and when it came to sex. She is fierce and will be hell when she comes into her own strength. Now don't get me wrong I wanted to strangle a whole bunch of those guys a few times and then shake her and ask her what the hell was she thinking! I must say it was hard to put it down until I finished the entire book. I can't wait to see what happens with Kai and Lauren (seer) Oh and now I must go read the first 4 books in the series because I want to know more about the other people in the book.

Let me just say that firstly, I am not usually a fan of paranormal readers, but something just drew me to this one, and I am so pleased that I took a chance. Raul has met his perfect match with Bethany, who does not let him get away with anything. I loved the witty banter between them. This is a well written, fast paced, humorous and dirty story, which had me totally captivated throughout. I will certainly be going back and 1-clicking the rest of this fascinating series!

Let me be clear, I am a Hettie Ivers fanatic! I line up to receive her arcs(as I did with this one in exchange for an unbiased review[except my own bias which is heavily in favor of Hettie and her work, at this point, so whatev]), I buy her books anyway to support her and make sure she keeps churning out the gold, and keep frantically searching google to see if she is going to show up at a romcom convention near me.

All of this aside, Just Like Animals is Hettie at her hilarious and scintillating best. Just when I thought Raul was out of my life and good riddance, she does her amazing perspective shift and I find myself coming around, maybe he's not the jerk I initially thought, maybe his heart's in the right place after all, maybe the alpha/surfer/insensitive shtick is just that, a mask to hide the deep emotional undercurrents coursing through his supernatural, drop-dead sexy veins(particularly that veinous appendage so well described by Hettie in scene after scene!). Let's face it, he's the guy you hate to love, but end up doing it anyway(and never regretting a second)! His relationship with Rogue of all rogues, Sloane(a 9 year old with the weight of the world on her shoulders), is endearing, compassionate, and melt-your-heart sweet. It's as if Hettie, writing from her experiences as a nine year old girl, knew that the destruction of life as everyone knew it rested on her shoulders, and some sweet, older guy(not too old and maybe she was crushing on, but he saw her for her and would never take advantage), came along and helped her turn her gift to good(which I can only assume was writing smut, and can only thank whomever this mystery mentor was, for his sensitivity).

We find Bethy a decade after her decision of denial in a loveless relationship about to tie the knot and stuck in a rut, clawing desperately to get out, when whose broad shoulders should arrive to be clawed desperately for redemption, than our anti-hero himself. Their chemistry is instant and electric and combustibly hot! Bethany finds herself along for the ride in a supernatural world of espionage and intrigue, murder and power, and just when I thought she was going to break, she reached a little deeper and found ways to cope and adapt and maintain herself in ever changing circumstance. I loved her sweetness and exhibitionism(don't tell anyone) and her solution for how to visit the Salvatella Pack doctor/freak without Raul figuring out what she was up to.

The continuation of the feud between Salvatella and Reinoso packs remains one of my favorites, like the Hatfields and the McCoys, Lakers/Celtics, M&M's vs Reese's, or Kim vs Kourtney, this is a timeless, paradox of humanity, truly riveting story that left me on the edge of my seat. The depth of detail that Hettie has created in her warlock world fascinates my imagination and satisfies my curiosity but only to the extent that I love the books she has written, as I fully expect her to write many more! The realism she brings to such outrageous circumstance and imaginary scenarios leaves me laughing, crying, angry, joyful, and glad to be alive(and turned on, too[very, very, very turned on]). Despite the innocuous backdrop of a romcom romp, Hettie hits emotional heights, philosophical quandaries, and mystery of life essence that is normally reserved for the very best fiction, and not seen generally in this genre's pages, but she does it unassumingly and intelligently, whilst skillfully weaving the tapestry of my favorite two werelock families, the relationships, love interests, friendships, histories, and power rivalries that keep me coming back for more each time.

This is a stand alone book and it stands alone as a hot, hilarious, hook-up turned eternal mates sizzler of a story, but I don't want to imagine a time and place without the nuance and depth of world building that I have come to love and expect from Hettie, as if the other books didn't exist. I will continue to advocate for her and this series as an entity to be read and enjoyed in all its bawdy, lustful, creative brilliance!

Wow! My first Hettie Ivers read - and I can't wait for the rest. I started with this one, though it is book 4 in the Werelock Evolution series. [I don't usually start a series in the middle, but I just couldn't get into the the first couple Alex and Milena (their story is covered in the first 3 books).]

This book starts with a bang - both literally and figuratively - and doesn't stop, though it does move into deeper territory than just the nuclear-level sex. I loved Raul from the start (though I don't really care for the name). Hot, determined, broken to an extent, and one more time HAWT. God, I love his filthy inner dialogue...

And Bethany was just terrific - smart, grounded, socially awkward and totally hillarious at the same time. She has the best - and most hillarious - lines ever, even if some of them are just in her head.

Just Like Animals can be read as a stand alone but I promise it will lead you to late night binge readings that will have you scrambling to make sure your hands are on all books in this series within a week. This is book 5 in Hettie's Werelock series, and just when you think you have all characters figured out, perspective bursts your bubble and throws your opinions through a loop.

Raul is the surfer, panty charmer smile, boy next door whose main objective has always been himself. Or so you thought. While his character has always been likable to me I can see why he isn't exactly the crowd favorite. This book provides insight to his more vulnerable side to not only the perspective between his sister Milena and himself but also the strained relationships with family he had growing up that essentially shaped him to the I-Give-No-F*!!#s Alpha attitude we all came to hate (or if you are like me, love). But like any bad boy we come to love, when it comes down to it, his priorities are always in the right place even if the execution is less than appealing or well thought out. He's waited 10 years (which apparently is the biggest anomaly in the werewolf world) to finally be with his mate Bethany. That in itself should lay down some good ground work that he isn't as selfish as he seems.

"The small truth has words that are clear; the great truth has great silence"

Bethany is the smart Doctor, confident, sarcastic and witty breath of fresh air this whole series needs. She's also happens to be Milena's human best friend since childhood. See the conundrum here? While the war of sibling rivalry and Pack War based justice of what the Rogue means to all Werelock/Werewolf futures is very much real. Bethany is the best mediator the siblings/packs can hope for. She is the set of fresh eyes both Packs need in order to come to terms that the future is imminent but doesn't always have to be as what it seems or "should" be.

This book started off with a bang (literally) and has you careening for more with each page you turn. I always anxiously await anything Hettie puts to paper and wants to share because she never disappoints. Her writing is witty, comical, and to put it lightly, HOT! As mentioned, perspective is everything and if you have been following along since the beginning of the series I promise it will make you question everything. Add in the couples dynamic chemistry that will make you book mark more than a few of their scenes (if you know what I mean *wink* wink*) and this book becomes a double threat.

P.S. It was hard to find quotes that were PG-13 (it was that hot). You will see what I mean when you get your hands on it. :)

First time I have read this author and it won't be the last. A very interesting world with shifter, and sort of super shifters, seers and prophesies and this book is in the middle of the series. I was able to keep up with most of the characters and story line. The H is angsty, and so mad for the h he literally chewed on her. She loves him, but has been be-spelled so doesn't remember. It is very intense, with great world building. Loved it and will buy the series.

Satisfaction guaranteed..

If ever a title truly reflected the story within, then this is the one....in truth it should come with some kind of hazard to health warning... the laugh out loud, hilarious antics of Raul the hot, frustrated, alpha werelock, together with his pack and associates, not to mention all that heat between him and his sexy, unsuspecting mate Bethany, is more than liable to cause palpitations and may just finish off those of a more delicate disposition...

There are some truly inspired moments between these pages... packed with humour, hot werelocks, sexy times, hot werelocks, intrigue, hot werelocks and plenty of action, which, you guessed it, includes hot werelocks...this alternative world and the cast that inhabit it are fabulous and magnetic...if it wasn’t for the fact that at best they would ignore me and at worst they would probably kill me, I would love to meet them in the real world ...

You can enjoy this fabulous book of delights as a standalone, but for the full werelock experience I would urge you to go back to the start and witness firsthand the evolution of these characters and their dark, tortuous and invariably funny journey up to this point...

Be warned though..this is not for the faint of heart , if you are unable to appreciate tongue in cheek humour and dirty talking and filthy minded alpha shifters then do not venture into this world... but if you are up for the challenge then you are in for a fabulous treat....satisfaction guaranteed..this is a five star magical read.... I received an advanced copy of this book from the author.

Trying to sneak past Amazon with eggplant reference. But girls, you know what I'm saying. After a long wait (to me anyway) Hettie Ivers' next installment in the Werelock Evolution series continues with Raul and Bethany's story. They have been side characters in Hettie's previous books and I have been waiting to see these two get their own story. So worth the wait! I didn't think Hettie could top her original Werelock Evolution story, but she did. Bam mic drop. Characters were so well written and includes great steamy scenes. What I would give to be the protagonist in the Werelock well-endowed hot community. Read one of her books and you'll know what I'm talking about. Big sigh. Guess I will settle for Hettie Ivers fulfilling my desire for extremely well written and engaging stories with ahem, cough cough sexy times. Not sure if Amazon is gonna block that word but I'm trying.

So, Bethy ruined this book. I was just so sick of her shit by the end of this. And, I didn't like Sloane at all especially considering how much she was talked about and revered in this book. The couple had passion and the world was developed but thats some of the only plusses. 2 star rating.
