In 1522, the very night they were wed, Royce Morgan and his new bride, Beatrice Godwin, were murdered on their way home to Lacybourne Manor. After the cruel deed was done, a local witch came across their bodies, witnessing firsthand the tragedy of star-crossed lovers. Vowing that Royce and Beatrice would someday uncross those stars, using magic mixed with murder as well as true love, she linked their spirits together with hers (because someone had to protect them) forever… or until their reincarnated souls find happily ever after.

Now arrogant, forbidding Colin Morgan lives at Lacybourne, knowing, from lore (as well as the portraits of Royce and Beatrice that hang in Lacybourne’s hall and the small fact that he looks exactly like Royce Morgan), that he is the reincarnated soul of his ancestor. One stormy night, flighty, free-spirited, scarily kind-hearted Sibyl Godwin comes to Lacybourne and it doesn’t escape Colin’s notice that Sibyl is the spitting image of Beatrice. However murder, magic, a warrior’s heart beating in a modern man’s chest, a woman bent on doing good deeds even if they get her into loads of trouble, a good witch whose family has vowed throughout the centuries to protect true love, distrust and revenge make a volatile cocktail.

This means the path to happily ever after is paved with tranquiliser darts, pensioners on a rampage, Sibyl’s bad morning moods, heartbreaking misunderstandings and all kinds of magic, good… and bad.

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

And the purest magic is love.
And the purest purest magic is true love

In 1522, the very night they were wed, Royce Morgan and his new bride, Beatrice Godwin, were murdered on their way home to Lacybourne Manor. Now arrogant, forbidding Colin Morgan lives at Lacybourne, knowing, from lore (as well as the portraits of Royce and Beatrice that hang in Lacybourne’s hall and the small fact that he looks exactly like Royce Morgan), that he is the reincarnated soul of his ancestor

I started this book thinking I might like it as much as I liked the first two. Did I? Yes, I did, but I liked it even more than the first two. I absolutely LOVED IT.

SYBIL

COLIN

I adored Sybil and her no nonsense attitude. She was perfect for the pain in the ass that was Colin Morgan. She would bring him to his knees, no doubt.

”There’s been a terrible mistake and furthermore that man is a raving lunatic..."

Their first meeting is hilarious. So good. He is such an ass to her. A total wanker.

Royce is a typical alpha ass. Thinks he will never fall in love. He is rich, has women falling at his feet. His staff are scared of him.

”You’re like a male Mrs. Rochester except you have the run of the house.”

There is the paranormal/ghost issue which is usually a no-go area for me but as with the previous books it just enhances the story. I loved being back in the 1600s with Royce and Beatrice.

And his kiss was sweet and wild and beautiful and everything a kiss was meant to be, because it was filled with yearning and love ...

”Christ, you’re the most annoying woman I’ve ever met.”

I loved how Sybil got his goat up all the time. She annoyed the bejeepers out of him!

The other characters in the book were also wonderful. I love how KA used her time in the UK, especially Bristol, to write about that area. I have been there and squeeled with delight when she mentioned the Suspension Bridge that I saw last summer.

All of his desire to torment her fled as he stared at her, his heart clenching with guilt

The ending, alternating between the past and the present was a pure gem. And that epilogue. So precious.

Good goddess, but he had a beautiful body

3.0 stars . . . Maybe 3.5

WELP. This one was a little bit disappointing. Again, it's KA, so it's better than most . . .

But this time, rather than finding Sibyl quirky and adorable, I just thought she was ridiculous. A mostly likable ridiculous, but occasionally . . . more baffling than winsome.

I might need to stew on this one for awhile. Full RTC.

5 Crossed Fate Stars!

Welcome to Lacybourne Manor, England. Where star-crossed lovers, Royce and Beatrice, lost their lives after being tragically murdered at the end of their wedding a few hundred years ago. They never made it home.

description

Luckily, a good local witch enchanted them after their death so when their re-incarnated couple were bound by true love, they would be able to change their destiny and what happened on that dark day. The past would be finally be possible to change and Royce and Beatrice could finally have their happy ending.
Enter Colin and Sybil. He is the new heir of Lacybourne. Sexy, rich, mysterious, with absolutely no trust in women… and the spit image of Royce. And Sybil (Yeah, you got it, just like Beatrice), the nicest and sweet woman who just wants a simple life and wants to help everybody. They feel an immediately connection, but Colin doesn’t trust Sybil and she feels intimidated by him.

description

After a few turns they finally sort their stuff and things starts to get good between them. But what they don’t know is that what caused the tragedy of their ancestors is still out there. And it’s decided to not let the past change… even if it have to do it all over again, only this time with Colin and Sybil.

description

Rating: 5 Stars.
Storyline: This was probably one of my favorites KA books so far… and I’ve read a lot of her books! I loved the romance, the history behind it, the magical aspects… I loved everything. This was Kristen Ashley at her best. And her best isn’t easy to top.
Writing Style: Third person. Dual POV. Flawless, heartwarming and engaging.
Character Development: Sybil was a sweet, sweet heroine. I loved her. Colin was a little jerk in the beginning (albeit understandably) but he redeemed himself completely. Definitely on my “KA’s Heroes Top”. Loved how we were able to see a little of Royce and Beatrice and LOVED the supportive characters. Those old ladies were the bomb!
Steam: Hot.

WHEW!!!! I felt like it took me for-freaking-ever to get through this book!!!! I loved it. But for some reason it felt like the chapters kept multiplying while I wasn’t looking. What a twilight zone experience that was. It felt like I was turning the pages in S L O W M O T I O N.

The up-side of this was I got to experience the delightful Colin Morgan that much longer. And let me tell you, he was definitely worth the time!

 photo e36190943d9ef5eab24ecc46ac516ee7.jpg

Tall, dark, sexy as hell, and an arrogant jack-ass to boot… yes, I was completely lost for this guy! Not to mention, he was as wealthy as God, but I didn’t hold that against him. No. Colin was the kind of man that would command whatever presence he was in.

 photo d75d4266cd99a3ca37a4f0014cd460d1.jpg

He was chauvinistic, misogynistic, and completely pessimistic about his ability to find love or even happiness. Colin had only known women to be manipulating and conspiring gold diggers, that would sell their own souls to secure themselves a place in his life. Love was a myth. It didn’t exist in real life…

Just like the myth that surrounded his home… Lacybourne Manor. Those portraits didn’t prove a thing. Yes, Royce Morgan and Beatrice Godwin were real, their portraits proved that. Still hanging in his great hall, he grew up with their faces staring down at him.

 photo Joffrey-armor-house-baratheon-31097897-563-318.jpg

But now grown.. it was even hard for him to believe the resemblance. He looked exactly like Royce Morgan. And he dreamed of Beatrice.. almost nightly. And it wasn’t a good dream. He dreamed of the murder that was said to have happened on the very night of their wedding, 500 years ago. The myth said they would return, that they would break the curse that tore them apart so many years ago. And something inside him told him that he would find his Beatrice again.

 photo 9f6576974e40bd4e55d905f99afca913.jpg

It seemed farfetched, but for some reason, there was a part of him that hoped.

 photo 3ed4657a52e52af73efce3417c5fd3bd.jpg

Sibyl Godwin was an American, born to an English father and an American mother. A bit of an eccentric, and a clairvoyant, Sibyl was never able to find her place in the world. She was restless, always searching for the happiness she longed for, and always knowing in her heart that there was a man.. one man out there waiting for her. Her soulmate. And she was starting to give up hope that she’d ever find him.

“Sibyl, she’s not of the earth but of the air. She’s like a kite, all her life, darting about in the wind with no one holding onto her string … You’re of the earth … You have your feet firmly planted on the ground. She’s lucky to find someone like that, like you, willing to let her dart about happily in the wind but still keeping her tethered to the ground.”

For some reason, Sibyl found herself drawn to return to England, to her father’s roots. It seemed to be the only place that felt like home. But she still didn’t find him… and yet she still dreamed of him nightly, that same gut wrenching dream…

 photo f28fab93df3dd38a51729788294976e5.jpg

Then, of course the fates would intervene, and she would cross his path, (with a little help from a friend) and she was so shocked by his appearance that she was certain it must be him. But she couldn’t be more wrong. This man was far from the gallant, loving man of her dreams. He was arrogant and mean, evoking fear in everyone he met. But still, there was a part of her that hoped.

 photo 4518544_orig.jpg

This was a sweet and yes… zany romance (I know, I can’t believe I’m using that word either, but it truly fits). It involves a myth and a dark curse from the past, and the reincarnation of the murdered couple to finally bring the curse to an end. Their are modern day witches casting spells and a couple of crazy seniors suffering from them. There is a spurned lover, a couple of cute kids and some really sweet pets. There is a dark spirit causing havoc and so called fairy god mother (ok, that was my term for her) orchestrating it all.

 photo 6184f42ad0935f42e426b86a0298ceb3.jpg

Then she smiled at him with all the love of the world shining clearly in her eyes. He saw it as distinctly as if she had been standing right in front of him. And he felt it like a physical touch.
...He was in love with her.

I know this all sounds confusing, so I won’t attempt to explain any further. I loved the book. It was fun to read. Colin was fantastic. Sibyl was a hoot, occasionally dense, but in a cute way. And their together time was sweet and sexy as hell.

"I was wondering, for future reference of course, if this dining room table was fair game?"

I thought the book dragged a little at times during Sibyl’s community center escapades, but they all seemed to bring to light her endearing personality. And Colin’s attraction/aversion to it.

 photo 5257de921760c2fcd4a902e42175b26e.jpg

Also, the back and forth between past and present got a little confusing at times. But all in all, the story was just adorable.

 photo 22aee885e4474fb9f4b539285e0258ef.jpg

Sibyl Godwin was in love. Deeply, truly, completely in love.

Another Kristen Ashley gem that I will treasure!!!

"Colin Morgan had been born with a broken heart, the heart of a long-dead warrior, a warrior who lost his love and his life at near the same exact time."

Colin had grown up knowing he was the reincarnated soul of a long dead ancestor - Royce Morgan. He grew up expecting his "Beatrice" to appear, but she never did, and he had given up, grown cold and hard, and was nearly ready to settle for less.

Sibyl had no idea she was the reincarnated soul of Beatrice, but all her life, she had an image of a dream man, and she knew this dream man was the only man for her.

When they meet, Colin, while being fully aware of who she looks like, and who she could be to him, gets the wrong impression of her true person, and they do not at all get off on the right foot.

Misunderstanding and disappointment from both, lead to a rocky start to their relationship.

But they have a meddling witch, a meddling family, and a meddling OAP Posse - who are all determined to see true love come to pass.

Once again a truly beautiful tale of not only Colin and Sybil - but the story of Royce and Beatrice is woven through skilfully and you are rooting for all four.

Good magic and dark magic zipping back and forth across the centuries lead to a thrilling conclusion.

Unlike the previous books in the series, the Paranormal element plays a much bigger part in the story, which it would, given who Colin and Sybil are and the curse they need to break.

Again, another 5 star loved read.

Why? Cuz it is October and something haunty is required and we can. the impromptu buddy reading continues.

Also....cuz My Enabler Jessica and fellow KA lover Joanita said they would buddy read the entire series with me.

3.5 Let's Live It Again Stars

This is a story of reincarnated lovers and curses. You would think that once you meet your reincarnated love it would be smooth sailing right. But if some of the blood of your killer was used in the binding of the spell to bring you back together years later…well that might cause a few hiccups to work through.

This is a blend of sweet and sour. Colin has been told his entire life that he is the exact image of his long dead relative Royce and he knew all of the stories surrounding the lovers killed on the day of their wedding destined to return to this world someday. He even believed in them for a time but he lost all hope of that a long time ago.
For Colin Morgan had been born with a broken heart, the broken heart of a long-dead warrior, a warrior who lost his love and his life at near the same exact time.

Sibyl has mostly lived with her head in the clouds for most of her life. She has dreams of finding the one man that she is sure is supposed to fit into her life. She has even had dreams/premonitions of him. But when both Colin and Sibyl meet what should have been easy turns into a fiasco of epic proportions.
Strangely, and distressingly, she felt like she’d been in this exact position before, facing off against him. And losing. This feeling was not a little familiar, but a lot, like it didn’t happen once but repeatedly. And it was bizarre, frightening and, lastly, bizarrely, frighteningly reassuring.

Colin is convinced that Sibyl is a con artist just out for his money and she is pretty sure he is slightly deranged. As they stumble and fall together in some weird twisted and possible slightly cruel ways each starts to open up a little to the other and the closer they get to each other the more danger they are in because history it seems it doomed to repeat itself and they didn’t make it out alive 500 years ago.
The dark soul stood hidden in the trees and watched the cottage. The soul saw the flash of movement as the body came flying to the window, a woman’s body, a woman with unforgettable hair. Then a man come to her to hold her, gently, carefully, as if the naked woman was an exquisite, fragile piece of priceless crystal. At this sight, the dark soul seethed.

I like Sibyl and Colin enough…their story is a bit contrived but it is KA and most of the time I just go with it since ultimately I like the journey she takes me on. Sibyl has a temper and seems to take responsibility for things that she has no control over. Colin is bossy, single minded and a bit emotionally detached in the beginning. It really takes a while for their relationship to shift from suspicion, distrust and sex to compassion, caring and sex…but don’t forget the sex because there is a lot of that.

KA writes families pretty well, it is one of my favorite things about her writing the dynamics she uses between her side characters. Sometimes they are my favorite part of the story. I definitely loved Sibyl’s family and her mom especially cracked me up.
“We aren’t going to see Colin until Wednesday, you’re surely not going to allow him to leave town without an uninterrupted evening of privacy, are you?”
Sibyl clamped her mouth shut.
“Give her a good tumble, Colin,” Mags urged audaciously, pushing a stiff-with-humiliated-fury Sibyl out the door ahead of Colin. “She’ll need it to keep her in good spirits for the next couple of days.”

And I thought my mother had boundary issues. Still I enjoyed the way it felt pretty natural in the overall story.

I will say the culmination at the end was really my favorite part. Shift between now and then seeing who/what else was reincarnated and helping out with this story.
Mallory pulled out of his early evening nap, got to his feet far more gracefully than he had ever done in his whole doggie life and he walked into the house, following the last person of the party to enter as they all went in to escape the oncoming storm. He walked directly to his master and mistress’s bedroom and sat properly, not lounged, at the door. And thus he stood sentry.
* * * * * It wasn’t just people who were reincarnated, you know

For me the ending was intense and I really loved it all jumping between here and there, this and that with all the little added in snippets and it was intense.

The epilogue totally killed me and that is why I love KA books because no matter what else happens I get so caught up in them that my emotions sway easily and she can pull me to the verge of tears either in happiness or sadness in an instant. But the epilogue was definitely happiness for sure.

Warning: As always KA is not for everyone. She seems to be a love her or hate her sort of author. I’m an emotional reader so she usually works for me because she always takes my emotions on a journey. But if you are more on the side of a thinking reader than she might drive you bonkers.

WOW! This was certainly an interesting read!

For a good part of the beginning of the book I really DID NOT LIKE Colin (the lead male). He was by far (in my opinion) the darkest, edgiest, cruelest of all Kristen Ashley's Alpha's so far (even Knight).

There were parts in the book where Sibyl felt she was powerless (there was a situation where she actually believed Colin would rape her) and there wasn't a damn thing she could do about it because he was bigger, stronger, intimidating, and extremely overbearing. Which in reality is often true, but just reading about her vulnerability, and then when she actually submits because she feels she has no other option...well..it really bothered me.
However, around the middle of the book, Colin started showing some 'sweet' to Sibyl, and then I decided I would give him a chance (because all KA Alpha's are bad-ass, domineering asses at some part of the story).

**The story explains how he has been used & abused by women, so he naturally distrusts all Women, and He thinks Sibyl is another con trying to get to his wealth**

Then by the end of the book He won me over, and became everything I was hoping he would be.

The writing, story, and characters are wonderful to read, and this is by far the book out of all the 'Ghosts & Reincarnations' series that has the most para-normality.

I really enjoyed the end of the story, how KA linked the past and the present... Brilliant Ms. Ashley!

4.2 Supersweet Stars - Another lovely audiobook experience with a great feelgood KA romance

Added this $2 WSfV newly published audiobook to my (since January 2013) owned, and sorry to admit, still unread Lacybourne Manor ebook. — Narrator Abby Craden and it was 16:52 hours listening time to find time for.

Happydance mood after a Kristen Ashley book once again. Good stuff. My style and my kind of a nice romantic m/f read (... without overly much smex scenes - or whining, in my opinion often too young, cranky heroines - or a lot of irritating troubling melodramatic drama)

**********************************************

An old talked about heartbreaking legend...

In 1522, the very night they were wed, Royce Morgan and his new bride, Beatrice Godwin, were murdered on their way home to Lacybourne Manor. There is of course this old legend that says that their great love and marriage will be consummated some day when their souls and spirits meets again.

Today, nearly 500 years later...

Today is the castle owner a 30 something good looking rich bachelor Colin Morgan. Arriving an foreigner, the american woman, with the name Sibyl Godwin. — Surprisingly (or not, haha !??) are both Colin and Sibyl very much looking like those famous very old portraits of young Royce and Beatrice.

These Lacybourne Manor main characters struggling to reach happily for ever long love and leave the first enemy to lovers phase, was amusing fun romance 'reading'. And of course we get us a traditional bossy —very sting and sexy— alpha hero as always when Kristen Ashley. Add a out of this world big hearted, in here soul good and beautiful heroine.
 photo IMG_2908_zps32bdiczk.jpg

 photo IMG_2911_zpsxfyl3s8s.jpg

KA mention that she imagined an estate / castle as Clevedon Court writing this novel

Lacybourne Manor is maybe a bit too long (nearly seventeen audiobook hours - you need some free time to listening to them all !!!) as so often when KA, but in all ways a great, sizzling and steaming hot, love adventure. — Ms Abby Craden did a splendid great audiobook narration as well. Her hero sounds a bit stiff and grumpy but it fitted him in this one.

Not up for historical or odd paranormal stuff? — Don't fear to choose Lacybourne Manor if you already are a KA admirer. It honestly isn't that much of "mystery/ fantasy / para / historical" storyline stuff or happenings here. Lacybourne Manor is mostly a good heartwarming contemporary KA romance, but set in a nowadays nice and small-feeling UK village and in a old (warm) castle instead of, as usual in her books, a small dusty (Colorado) town in US.
 photo IMG_2942_zps6j7ov2kd.jpg

“I like you in my bed,” he continued and she closed her mouth and glared at him. “I like the way your laboratory makes the house smell like fruit and flowers. I like walking your damned dog. I like seeing your clothes in the wardrobe. I like you wearing my t-shirts to bed. I like coming home to you.” As he spoke, her face shifted and relaxed, the emerald melted and the sherry took its place.’

**********************************************

Summary: I couldn't but take this dearly sweet, and maybe also slightly nicely prudish, heroine Sibyl and her in all ways to wish for larger-than-life hero hero Colin, to my already huge KA book-heart ... and enjoying their grand lovely love story. — Recommended sincerely to all KA readers and all admirers of good mature adult contemporary m/f romances.

My first in this Ghosts and Reincarnation series. I'm pretty convinced I'll go for the rest now when this series luckily, as so many other KA books at last, are released as (quite price worthy WSfV) audiobooks to download.

**********************************************

I LIKE - the feel of well done grandly romantic m/f stories

I am very torn over the rating for this book. I thought it was a fabulous story. Loved the plot. Most of the time I even really liked the MCs. But there were some things I did not like so I had to mark down a bit.

Overall though, the "paranormal" aspect of the story was awesome. Although maybe a bit too much back and forth. There were tons of secondary characters that I adored and really enjoyed. Mallory was probably my favorite. Especially his thoughts about how hard he worked at sleeping and napping.

Colin is an asshole in the beginning. Sibyl does something that I did NOT agree with and I lost a lot of respect for her. But with perseverance, I moved on from their rocky beginnings and liked the transformation.

The ending bothered me tremendously. The jump back in time is something I just had to pretend did not happen when it happened because otherwise it skeeved me out. And Mallory....well KA you killed me there. And I was PISSED! But then you wrote that awesome epilogue so I forgive you!

4.5 Stars!

Narrator Review: For the most part, a really good narrator. My only complaint would be when she impersonated some of the side, female characters. They sounded like 80 year women with a smokers voice. I loved her female lead voice and she didn't do a too bad of a job on the male lead voice.

Story Review: This was an enjoyable read. I struggle with some of this authors leading men because they can be A-wholes but I never got mad at Collin. He was still "my way" only but he didn't stampede over Sybil. Sybil was a bit too flighty but that seemed to be the goal of the author. The epilogue was super cute with the dog Malory. I would listen to this story again.

IMO this is the best of the series so far - If I was in any doubt at what to rate it by the time I got to the end, then the epilogue would have tipped it from 4/4.5 straight to a 5 stars!

i'm not going to say much about this because i'm too tired but i didn't like Colin very much. he is a control freak who took emotionally but gave nothing but commands and orders. i like tough macho men, but he was such a jerk i couldn't stand him. and he remained that way till the very last part of the book. that's why i gave this book only three stars. the rest of the characters though I liked.

A pair of star crossed lovers reincarnated and reunited centuries after being torn asunder show that true love really does conquer all.

Of the first three books in this series, this one has the most paranormal elements fully enmeshed within the main characters’ story – it’s the driving force between what is happening and it works far better. In the previous two, you have the romance story and also a haunting. In this one, the paranormal storyline drives the contemporary romance.

Beatrice and Royce are married and in love in 1522 but are murdered by having their throats slit by a dark soul before they are able to consummate their relationship and thereby setting up a curse which will come back to haunt them when they are reincarnated in the present day.

Colin, owner of Lacybourne Manor, knows he is Royce reincarnated and knows he is waiting for his soul mate. He’s a man of wealth and power, in fact he’s obscenely rich, and has become jaded with grasping women who are just after the status and kudos of being with him. He’s losing faith that he will ever find Beatrice reincarnated and has become distrustful, cold and hard-hearted. When he finally meets Sybil, Beatrice reincarnated, he just assumes he is being set up and treats her with extreme callousness.

Beatrice is an American girl living in England (all the heroines of this series are) and she has absolutely no idea of her previous life other than that she has been dreaming of Colin all her life and their first meeting destroys her hopes and dreams. In fact, Colin treats her like a whore, she behaves like a whore (albeit for laudable reasons) and they are both deeply disappointed in each other – their collective dreams and hopes seemingly tainted forever.

Colin is quite the gamma hero. There’s quite a darkness to him here that we don’t often see in a KA hero and it gave me a bit of a thrill, I have to confess as my reading preferences often tend to veer towards the darker side!! Slowly, Sibyl will warm him up with her generous and faultless personality – in fact, she is a little too good to be true with her giving nature. Thankfully KA writes her a few faults – she’s a right mardy arse first thing in the morning and has an incendiary temper!!

So, as the story progresses, the reincarnation and paranormal elements become deeper with more and more people involved as we sail inexorably towards our fated conclusion – can the curse be broken?

I did enjoy this one although I felt it started to lose credibility towards the end as it grew ever more fantastical but the whole reincarnated fated to be mated storyline is what the novel is all about and it pays to suspend your disbelief and just go with it. It’s another great KA romance – she really knows how to write ‘em – and I will carry on with the series.

If you like the reincarnation romance theme, this put me in mind of others I have read over the years and here’s a few recommendations. The Winter Sea Mariana Green Darkness The House on the Strand Hiding From The Light Labyrinth

4 star paranormal romance

I really wanted to love this book, as KA can do no wrong in my literary world, but alas, I wasn't feeling this one. I loved the story line (would have given that 4.5 stars), couldn't stand the main characters (gave them 2 stars), the inconsistencies was another issue for me.

Lets start with Colin, demand much? He DEMANDS (screaming in capital letters) that Sybil ALWAYS (in big screaming capital letters) capitulate to him, answer his questions, do what he says, when he says it and if he doesn't get his way RIGHT AWAY, he throws a hissy fit and threatens her. Yet he never answers Sybil's questions, only capitulates when there is something in it for him, and ignores her requests/life. His character didn't "start" to come around for me until about the 3/4 mark.

Sybil, she's a generous big-hearted, feminist, a bit odd (which was endearing), absent minded (which was also endearing but very annoying at times). She's done some extreme things in the name of love for her friends and the world's underdogs. She's told Colin about some past incidents, but the fact that she steadfastly refuses to tell him the reason that she took the 50k he offered for use of her body is beyond me. Really, in her life, it's not that bad, and other people have sold their bodies for things far less generous.

As for the inconsistencies, Colin believes in his family curse, believes that it can be lifted by finding his "Beatrice". Eventually he believes that Sybil is his "Beatrice". But, for all that the curse he believes in, he can't fathom the idea of the "Dark Soul" following his family through the generations waiting to prevent the reincarnated souls of Royce and Beatrice to appear again so that they can be stopped from reuniting? Why not, he believes everything else of the curse, why is THAT so hard to believe? He also doesn't believe that Marian is a descendent of the original witch that bound Royce & Beatrice's souls together - again why not? He doesn't believe she's a witch - again why not? He believes in the curse, knows the history, why can't she be? And then the "invisible housekeeper". When he is meticulous and detail oriented in the rest of his life, why did he ignore the "mysterious houskeeper" comments from Sybil and not question how the housekeeper was getting into his house after he changed the security codes?

I think that was it. Sadly, I found myself (gasp) skimming the pages, which I know is blasphemy for any KA book, but this one just didn't do it for me.

Spoilers ahead

Sibyl is basically a kind hearted do gooder who's yet to find her place in the world, she leaves her American home and starts working at an old people's centre
She loves to tour historic places and makes an appointment to see Lacybourne
There she meets Collin but has an accident causing her to have to stay overnight
Collin knows that females are deceitful, a lesson he's learned the hard way. In his youth he thought the legend of reincarnated love would come true but he's learnt that most females can't be trusted. When he meets Sibyl who bears a striking resemblance to the other half of his legend he thinks she's in cahoots to deceive him, eventually her sweetness wins him over but the past refuses to stay in the past and their lives becomes very much in danger

********* "
After Collin is an ass to her Sibyl agrees to sleep with him for $50,000(the h in book 1 got $200,000 Sibyl girl) in order to buy a bus for her oldies
Collin was a cold and horrid asshole in the beginning then a bossy and controlling yet sometimes sweet idiot in the latter part of the book
When he first met Sibyl he was dating and thinking of marrying another woman, she slept the night there too but we later learn nothing happened between them and he broke it off with her
Sibyl 's backbone was made of cheap wet toilet paper
Mallory the brave and faithful dog is killed but is reincarnated at the end
There's a bit of time travel and body possession where Sibyl kisses Royce but considering Collin is him reincarnated is it really cheating?
This book was all over the place and the switcheroo weirded me out
All in all I wasn't quite a fan of this one

Lacybourne Manor offers another fantastic escape into a mysterious and romantic world of historical England. The master of Lacybourne Manor (Colin) is confident, cocky, and all male! He has been brought up by a loving family and yet he is hard, aggressive, and frankly a bit full of himself.

description

He knows that many years in the past Royce (a knight) and his bride Beatrice were brutally murdered by evil magic in Lacybourne. There can be no happiness for the master of the house because love has never been able to prevail. The curse has passed down and he hopes that somewhere he is to meet the woman that will help him break the curse. The only way to break the curse is to consumate their relationship with love. Colin is in fact Royce reincarnated and he is waiting for his Beatrice.

description

However, Colin has been burned so many times by money grubbing women, that he is completely desensitized and has a hard time seeing the good in anyone.

Sibyl (the spitting image of Beatrice) is a free spirited social worker who gives love like she breathes air.

description

She loves history and wants to visit Lacybourne Manor. However, she shows up when the house is already shutting down for the night. The tour guide convinces her to come back on another day. She arrives to the manor one stormy night and although Colin recognizes who Sybil looks like he believes that she is just another scam artist looking to score and pillage from him!

The attraction Colin feels for Sibyl is strong. He pursues her (in the least to ascertain if she is trying to scam him). Colin is a bit on the severe side when it comes to Alpha Males. I found his hard edges and aggressive manner to be extremely sexy. However hippie, wicka lovin' Sibyl is completely affronted by his pushy behavior.

"Mr. Morgan, the raving lunatic who most definitely needed psychiatric counseling or at the very least, anger management classes..."

Sibyl spends the majority of her time taking care of the elderly. Her place of business is falling apart. They need money desperately in order to fix things up, provide a transportation bus, etc. Making little headway, Colin decides to test Sybil. He offers her money if she will be with him for two months. Although Sibyl is disgusted with the idea of selling herself (she is a good girl after all), she decides to take the money. Colin is immediately pleased that he has proven who she is and decides to milk it for all its worth. Although you might expect for the sex to be uncomfortable, it turns into something beautiful. It is obvious that they are meant to be together. They each have dreams of their past selves and in some cases Sibyl is transported back in time and communicates with Royce.

Eventually Colin sorts out who Sibyl is, falls in love with her, and decides he wants to keep her. She is such a good girl. She loves him for exactly who he is! Of course in order to break the curse, they both have to love each other. With evil spirits raising havoc all around, their love affair is riddled with danger and mystery!

What makes this story so unique is the secondary characters. I absolutely adored Colin and Sibyl's family and friends. They truly added a unique backdrop for this dynamic couple. Sibyl is probably one of my favorite KA heroines. She overflows with sunshine, joy, and love. Sibyl's sister describes her so eloquently!

description
Colin's story is one of transformation. These two together are unstoppable. Their is magic, intrigue, passion, action, and history! Another truly amazing read! I simply devoured this one up!

"This feeling shined in his eyes and he looked at her as if she was the sun and the moon, as if the world revolved around her, as if she was his entire universe."

*Another re-read*
It's official Kristen Ashley can write anything, any subject and it's spun into Gold. This is book 3 in The Ghosts and Reincarnation series and this is our first reincarnation story of the series. We really get two stories in one in this story and I loved that we got both timelines of the two stories.Royce and Beatrice were in love 500 years ago but were saddly killed on there wedding day and it is told that until these two can make it back together there souls will be cursed and follwed through time by a dark spirit intent on killing them. Collin lives in Lacybourne Manor in today's time and has heard his entire life about the star crossed lovers Royce and Beatrice who had a great love and on the wedding night were killed before they could consummate their love. He has also grown up his entire life being told he was Royce reincarnated. And the proof hangs in the manor's hallway in the form of a picture of Royce that is identical to Collin in every way except Royce has golden hair and Collin has dark hair(just like Beatrice's hair, Royce's love). Then One day Sibyl comes to visit Lacybourne after hours (as directed by one of the volunteers) and Collin see's her and instantly thinks she out to swindle him because except for her hair she looks just like Beatrice (with the exception of her hair and yes you guessed it her hair is the color of.....Royce's hair)she even carries Beatrice's maiden name. So Collin decides to see were this will lead knowing she is there to con him but finding day after day that he is more and more drawn to Sibyl. Sibyl loves old houses and just wanted to visit the manor but after seeing Collin the man from her dreams literally She is in shock. Then Collin starts to speak and after listening to him Sibyl wants nothing to do with him because he is cruel, heartless and maybe a little crazy. After some time Collin starts to act different and he's kind and even familiar. So starts the tail of Lacybourne Manor. This story had twists turns passion, good vs. evil all wrapped around the story of two couples who loved each other with a love that transcends time. This book was beautifully written and is yet another testament of Kristen Ashley's talent.

A whimsical tale of destiny, magic and true love.

People try to explain magic in a variety of different ways.
They use the excuse of science, miracle, divine intervention, luck, fate and coincidence.
It’s all just magic in one form or another.
* * * * *
And the pureset magic is love.
And the purest,
purest magic is true love.

Book 3 in Kristen Ashley’s Ghosts and Reincarnation series, and she has delivered yet another all-consuming romantic read which, unlike the last book in this series, is heavily tied in with the ghonsty/reincarnation theme.

500 years ago, Royce and Beatrice Morgan were slaughtered on their wedding night before they were able to consummate their love. A local witch was so devastated at the tragedy, that she bound their spirits together for eternity until their reincarnated souls could find true love and break a centuries-old curse.

In the present, Colin Morgan is the image of his long-dead ancestor, Royce, and is living in the family estate of Lacybourne Manor. Having lived with the knowledge that he is destined to fulfil the legend, his heart has become hardened over the years as he has been used and betrayed by women after him for his money and his position. He is now a callous and ruthless businessman who has given up on finding his ‘Beatrice’.

Sibyl Godwin is an American living in England. She is a dreamer with a huge heart. Always standing up for the downtrodden and looking to make life better for people – even those she doesn’t even know, and sometimes with hilarious results. She has dreamed of her one true love for her whole life, and had just about given up hope when a shocking encounter one stormy night changes everything.

Colin immediately recognises Sibyl as the image of Beatrice, and is immediately suspicious of her intentions and her apparent lack of knowledge about the legend. Nevertheless, in the way of all KA alphas, he intends to pursue her, and make her his business.

The start of their relationship is unconventional to say the least. And honestly, I had some issues with it - on both of their parts. But, fair play to them, they are able to overcome their questionable beginning, and commence an epic KA-esque romance –

“There is no way in hell a woman like you should be on the arm of a man like that,” Colin remarked with deep meaning and supreme finality.
… “And what type of man should I be on the arm of, as you put it?”
“Me,” he answered boldly.

A seemingly mismatched couple – the bossy, controlling alpha, and the dreamy, sweet-hearted heroine, they antagonise the crap out of each other…

“He’d just decided to marry Sibyl, though he could not imagine, considering her spectacular temper, how she would react to all of this.”

“Christ, you’re the most annoying woman I’ve ever met.”

… and their courtship is complete with fantastically descriptive interactions, ridiculously hilarious arguments and even Sibyl being tossed over Colin’s shoulder and marched up the stairs. And while not as hot as some of KA’s more recent book releases, there is still some pretty sensational steamy time.

“I like to watch. You’re beautiful always but you’re fucking breathtaking when you come.”

I loved watching the development of their relationship, and loved that the book is written in dual POV. Sibyl has always been led by her heart, and as much as she gives to Colin, she holds a part of herself back from him in order to protect herself, but as they get to know each other and grow closer, both of their walls come tumbling down, and it is absolutely beautiful. I especially loved watching the change in the previously cold-hearted Colin as he rediscovers happiness again and comes to realise the significance all that is happening between them.

Sibyl’s surrender had been complete. Colin instantly recognised just how much she had been holding back when she opened her heard to him fully. He found the offer of it into his care a gesture so precious, he wasn’t certain how to handle it but he was certain that he would not, under any circumstances, let it go.

*swoon*

The link between the story in the present and the events that took place 500 years ago are closely tied, and it all culminates into a heart-racing and intricately detailed climax that had me flipping pages madly. The way it’s written is all very clever, and I really enjoyed the magical aspect of the storyline.

Full of the KA-isms that we adore, this is a long book, and I love that Kristen Ashley takes the time to tell the story in the way that she wants it. Things that other authors or editors would cut out, she leaves in, and it adds so much to the mood of the book. From the ridiculous to the swoony, to all of the beautifully fleshed-out side characters that contribute so many little details to the story, it’s all there, and I soaked up every single moment of it. Bravo!

I loved it – 4 stars.

HOLY GODDESS ! THIS WAS DEFIANTLY ONE HECK OF AN HILARIOUS BADMINTON MATCH..i mean literally by the second half of this book, one paragraph would play with the preset while the next drifted back a 500 years...and for that reason ALONE i had to add an extra 1.5 stars ! :) photo myphoto_zpsca14e3c8.gif

and the ONLY reason i deducted 1 star was because i did not like the way they tried to progress their relationship with half truths and a bucket FULL OF LIES.... seriously i found it to be absolutely unnecessary.!
bitch stop lying. .
LOL THAT WOULD PROBABLY be Colin talking.. :p

otherwise i found this book MUCH BETTER than Sommersgate House so yes there's a HUGE possibility i will be continuing the series..LOL THANK GODDESS !

THANK GODDESS INDEED !

Re-Read 2020

I guess this is an example of what can happen when you re-read a book. I guess there is always a chance it won’t read the same and your view of the story will change.

I can’t seem to get over the setup this time around. I can’t even believe that my 2012 self could get over it if I am being honest. I am so disturbed by it that even though I get it, I really do, and I can see it, I really can, well, I just can’t accept it.

The rest, around that issue that I tried desperately to pretend did not happen, I really enjoyed. Not favorites or 5★'s enjoyed, but I did like it.

It just seemed to take me forever to finish. Forever.

I’m going to keep going. So, on to the next.
-------
This is by far the best in the series yet!! I have loved each one but this one just was over the top!!
