Vair: Beyond the X-Club

Rate this book
What happens in an exclusive alien sex club stays in an alien sex club, right?

Well... not when you pen an exposé on said alien sex club—carefully omitting the fact that the experiences detailed therein are yours rather than based on the firsthand accounts of nameless interviewees, as your article claims.

And not when the alien club owner you had the wildest night of your life with shows up bearing video footage of your most intimate moments together that refute this.

Amy has two choices: Be exposed as a fraud just as her journalism career is taking off, or agree to Vair’s wicked blackmail terms in exchange for his silence and protection from Krinar authorities.

For a young journalist on a mission to prove her worth, it was always about landing the next big story. Until it became all about playing sex games with a possessive extraterrestrial.

Vair: Beyond the X-Club is a short novel (45K words) set in the world created by Anna Zaires in her Krinar Chronicles, featuring characters introduced in her novelette/short story, The X-Club.

If you follow my reviews, you know that Anna Zaires is one of my favorite authors.

The Krinar Chronicles, which takes place in a kind of post-apocalyptic future where a more technologically advanced and socially developed alien race - the Krinar - has come and kind of taken over Earth and all of humanity, is but one of her amazing series.

Now, if you haven't read it, I realize that the above description makes it sound super fucking janky.

And that it is probably giving you visions of poorly made B movies with green alien tentacles and a slice of Independence Day grandeur.

description

Now, I for one, adored Independence Day back when it came out. Especially this part:

description

Ellll oh elllll.

In fact, I remember 12 year old me standing in a ridiculously long line with Papa Shameless waiting to watch in this thing on opening day on July 4, 1995.

So good. I mean, how can anyone not love the Presidential pep speech delivered so gloriously by a 1990's Bill Pullman?

description

Le sigh...if only Thomas J. Whitmore and his airfield PA could be our president for real.

But I digress.

Wait, you say, it says this book is by Hettie Ivers, not Anna Zaires.

And you're right, good obs.

I guess Anna Zaires gathered some of her favorite authors and authorial buddies, gave them the go-ahead to write some novellas which take place in her creatively owned alien universe and dubbed said collection The Krinar World.

Smart, right?

Well, this is one of those novels.

And not only does this story act as one of those novels, it is actually the continuation of one of Zaires' short stories, The X-Club.

And I really enjoyed it.

It was smutastically delicious.

Focusing more on the smut side of things and less on the world-building side, this book was a pure pleasure read and so much fun.

I really enjoyed Ivers' writing and I will definitely be checking out more of her stuff - especially since it appears she writes one of my favorite genres: PNR smut.

As long as they aren't expecting any further development or plot growth in the overarching Krinar universe, fans of the series will really enjoy this one.

People who haven't read the Krinar Chronicles might still enjoy these novellas, although I would definitely recommend reading them first to enrich the experience.

All that said, again, I really enjoyed this one and look forward to more from this author.
I also feel like re-reading the Krinar books again, which I think I will go do now...

Vair and Amy

Does anybody want to know what happened after Amy had a wild night with Vair at the Xclub?
Do you remember the short story, the Krinar prequel by Anna Zaires, “The X-Club”?

So, I lived in the Krinars’ world this weekend hahaha. I read 7 stories from the Krinar Kindle World that were written by 7 different very talented writers with Anna Zaires’ blessings.

I won’t deny that I had the time of my life. Pure fun and enjoyment.

I won’t also deny that I am a huge fan of the Krinar mythology for many years now. I think Anna Zaires has had many original ideas and she has managed to combine smut, erotica and Sci-Fi romance in her own unique way. To give her baby to other people to play with it, I am sure it was not easy. I can happily say, as a big fan, that I am extremely happy with the result of this decision.

Under these parameters, I have to say that the story of Vair and Amy, as it was developed, is the closest to Anna Zaires’ original work. And the most accurate. At least for me.
I mean if somebody told me that Anna wrote “Vair: Beyond the X-Club”, I would have believed him. That means that Hettie really felt and understood this world in a molecular level. I don’t know if you understand what I am trying to say, but I really cannot explain it better hahaha

Anyway, to get to the point: I LOVED THIS ONE!

Well, color me surprised. Definitely didn't see me enjoying a paranormal-alien romance, but since a mutual read it and I trust her opinion on things when she says it's good... I went for it. Good thing, too. This was smut-heaven, but also, for being so short, had a great workable plot and the heroine wasn't a total airhead. Score. Guess I've converted.

PS - the aliens most definitely don't look like that ^^ think Roswell on steroids.

POSITIVELY HORRIFIC—AND HORRIFICALLY HOT

The Krinar stories are a spinoff from Krinar Chronicles by Anna Zaires. I enjoyed this story that is part of a larger project by an amazing group of authors. Each book reads as a stand-alone and together makes up a fascinating tale. The stories involved two species, humans from earth and Krinar from the planet Krina. The stories are full of angst, confusion, shock, eventually acceptance, and passion. The stories are sexually explicit of full of intense sex scenes between aliens and humans.

In Vair, we meet Vair and Amy. It is two years after the invasion of the Aliens from Krina. Vair runs an alien sex club that Amy and her friend and co-worker from the New York Herald enter to do an expose on.

Amy was raised by parents who see the worse case scenario in everything, and have drilled into her, their fears. In reality, they have inhibited Amy for enjoying life and those fears will spill over into her work. Writing articles that are negative toward the Krinars, better known as Ks will bring her in the sites of both governments. “Humans complicate the most basic emotions by experiencing them through extraneous social filters.”

The story will bring Amy into Vair’s world when she comes into his sex-club, and Vair claims her.
This naïve, inhibited young woman will experience multiple sexual delights with Vair. “We don’t suffer the prudish social constraints that plague your society.” But what happens when she writes her story? What happens when she learns that Vair’s comment that he will “take great care of her for all eternity?”

“No, little reporter, it means you’re Vair’s property. It means that he owns you.” “Ks don’t need permission from humans. We take what we want. We keep what we claim as ours.”

What will happen when Amy rejects Vair’s attention? She is left with mixed emotions, upset he is leaving her alone and missing him, yet afraid to accept his dominance and attention. “Feeling overwhelmed. Needing more. Wanting less. Craving everything my scary alien lover had to give.”

There is great chemistry between Vair and Amy, and while she may be chemically influenced by the chemical found in his saliva that leaves her drugged and docile, when she isn’t with him, she misses him. How far will Vair go to protect Amy, not just from their respective governments, but from her own self? Is there any future for them? The story has intense and explicit sex scenes, including voyeurism.

Disclosure: I received an e-copy of this book and had voluntarily read and reviewed. All thoughts, opinions, and ratings are my own.

The name says it all. Since reading the X-Club by Anna Zaires, I was dying to know what happened to Amy after her daring exposé. I’m so glad Hettie Ivers told us, and in such a way that ticked ALL my boxes. Fine writing interlaced with intrigue, tension, sizzling scenes, beautiful humor, and a tantalizing dose of kink cleverly mixed with advanced extra-terrestrial technology made Vair a read that went down as smoothly and fiery as the finest calvados. Throw in a good measure of well-balanced psychology between the lines and I’m hooked. I loved the interaction between Amy and Jay as much as I enjoyed Amy's encounters with Vair. I’m not going to give away any spoilers, but I’ll say Vair is hands down one of the sexiest alpha males in his profession. Many a fan will want to sign up as a lab rat after reading this story.

Very interesting alien book! I love how original the plot is, and how well the two main characters flowed so well together.

The sexual chemistry and build-up between Amy and Vair was off the charts!

The book was actually very well written. My only complaint was it's a bit "telling" as opposed to showing. There was a bit if dispcription that I would have loved to see as actual dialogue between the chatacters.

Over all 4 stars!

What an amazing read! Fun, funny and hotter than heck. I loved heroine Amy's voice, and her reactions to things (like when the vids of her first club experience popped up on her computer) were perfect. Jay was a great sidekick, the worst sort of best friend you can count on to get you into trouble, and Vair...a scorching hot hero! Loved the reveal at the end about who he really was.

What a welcome surprise!

5 Stars for Hettie Ivers’ The Krinar Chronicles: Vair: Beyond the Sex Club!

I started reading this book to throw me back into the Krinar World! I had read Anna Zaires’ mini novella X-Club and was curious to find out what happened to Vair and Amy. What I discovered was something that far exceeded my expectations: a new author, that has strong control of her writing and who is humorous throughout her story telling! Hettie Ivers is an amazing writer and I am so pleased that she did justice to Vair and Amy’s story! The author made me laugh as well as feel the intensity of Vair and Amy’s alien-human chemistry. I LOVED every minute of this book and read it in one sitting!
I am now more stoked to read the Krinar World and pick up Hettie Ivers other works!

Well Done! Thank you for continuing this amazing couple’s story Hettie Ivers!

The Krinar Chronicles: Vair: Beyond the X-Club by Hettie Ivers is a very good novella. It takes place in the world of author Anna Zaires Krinar books series. I have not read any of these books and so I am unfamiliar with any of her work. That being said, I found this novella by Hettie Ivers to be a very fun and enjoyable read. I loved the characters and the premise of the story. Amy and Vair share blazing chemistry & the book is full of steamy, sizzling encounters between them. Was a bit let down with the ending. Really would have loved a much more solid ending for these two characters. Other than that though, I highly recommend this read for fans of Alien/sci-fi/fantasy romances and for fans of very hot reads. I am posting an honest review after reading an ARC copy of this book.

It's the second Krinar Kindle World I've read, and damn that was good. I've been waiting for that one for a long time because the x club Krinar novella by Anna Zaires begged for a follow up; now, we got it.

Of course, the problem is that as the story was started by the original author, I had crazy high expectations... and this book didn't disappoint. It was extremely well written, and refreshingly lighthearted. This series is normally on the darker side of the scales and I appreciated the change.

My favorite point: the very end - not giving spoilers but that was super funny.

Let me start off by saying I’ve never read a book about aliens. Let me rephrase, not sexy aliens that can turn one of the driest deserts in the world, the Atacama Desert in Chile, into the equivalent of the Pacific or Atlantic Oceans. With that being said, Hettie has created a world where I would almost beg to be in the situation in which journalist Amy Myers finds herself.

An only child who moved away from her parents, Amy works at the Herald and has done nothing but crave journalistic success. She managed to find that, but at what cost? She’s found herself the plaything of the incredibly sexy, powerful, mysterious, and spontaneous VAIR. VAIR is not your mother’s alien. No, the alien that Hettie Ivers created in VAIR is one that will make you lock yourself in your bedroom to deal with numerous urges. He might be frightening on some levels but on others he is the ultimate creator of sinful desires.

The relationship between Amy and VAIR is full of regret, passion, desire, and insatiable need. There is incredible chemistry, longing, fear, and curiosity. There is also a lot of scorching hot physical intimacy between the two. It’s amazing to me that their surroundings were not the victims of spontaneous combustion; their physical interactions were just that hot!

If you do not mind an exorbitant amount of heated scenes in a book, or if you prefer that, then VAIR: Beyond the X-Club is the book for you. If you want a book that delves into one of the most unusual of relationships, you should also read this book. Regardless of their heated encounters there is far more to this story if than those cold shower inducing scenes. Do not hesitate to pick up this book, you will NOT regret it. I know if I had the physical book I’d probably need to put a protective covering over each page, once you read it, you’ll understand exactly why. I want to give kudos to Hettie Ivers for providing her readers with yet another brilliant piece of fiction.

Vair: Beyond the X-Club by Hettie Ivers, picks up 9 weeks after the events in The X-Club 'nine weeks, two days, and thirteen hours' to be precise.
When I first heard that Anna Zaires Krinar Chronicles were getting their own Kindle World and that Hettie Ivers (whose books I love) was going to write the follow up to Amy and Vair's first story, I was beyond excited to say the least and I'm happy to report that Hettie Ivers blew all of my expectations right out the roof.
With truly memorable secondary characters, flashes of humour (Amy's mother who takes melodrama to new heights and had me snort laughing), undeniable chemistry between Vair and Amy complete with sex scenes hot enough to scorch the pages and an emotional connection to the characters that has you feeling what they are feeling in that moment, Hettie Ivers has truly done Anna Zaires Krinar World proud.
Hettie Ivers has done a remarkable job of adding more character depth and complexity to Amy and Vair's characters.
In The X-Club by Anna Zaires, readers are shown that Amy has a streak of fearlessness and a drive to further her career and Hettie Ivers has expanded upon that concept and added to it, showing sides to Amy that will surprise readers of the previous Krinar books.
I know that Amy's character truly surprised me.
Upon meeting Amy in the first book I never would have imagined that she had alien sized intimacy issues with a healthy dose of denial on the side.
I found Amy's character to be a completely relateable heroine that I can easily identify with.
I highly recommend reading this short novel length sci-fi romance but would advise to read The X-Club before doing so, purely for your own enjoyment.

An arc of this book was generously provided to me by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Finally!! Fans of, The X-Club by, Anna Zaires, are given the closure they are looking for!

If you love strong, sexy as fuck Alphas, then you'll love anything that Hettie writes, but furthermore you'll appreciate the gift that is Vair, in this sure to become a classic, continuation of Amy and Vair's story.

DO NOT begin reading unless you're prepared to change your panties regularly, have your significant other on hand, and/or favorite toy of choice close by. Hettie doesn't just write sex scenes, she pulls you into the experience, leaving you wondering if you're having an orgasm of your own as you're reading, which, if you took my advice a sentence ago, could very well be the case.

Where Zaires selfishly left us wanting more, Hettie picks up and delivers a sizzling exposition of not one, but two relationships exploring sexual freedom and intimacy with hot Aliens. Amy's career has taken off and is in full on denial mode regarding her electrifying experience with Vair, something he plans on remedying the moment he waltzes back into her life. Who knew blackmail could be so sexy? Her strong will, fuels her need to fight the claim of ownership that Vair desires to make, leaving the reader to be conflicted regarding who to root for, I found myself switching teams multiple times throughout this story.

Jay, my favorite, non man-bun wearing, bisexual, supporting character, goes from trying to smuggle Amy out of the city, to playing doctor with nurse Shalee, a hot female alien. This was something I was excited to see an author explore. Don't get me wrong, I will always love me some hot male alpha energy, but give me an author whose willing to explore the trope less traveled and I'd be willing to read any other works the author has. I hope this isn't the end for Jay and Shalee, rather I would love to read a continuation of their relationship in later works. *hint hint*

Where Vair and Amy are concerned, be prepared for an ending that leaves you both relieved and wanting more. As Hettie's writing causes you to become emotionally and sexually invested in any character she writes.

"Deliciously" sexy!

When Amy Myers writes a daring exposé on an exclusive secret alien sex club (an X-Club) in New York City, she does what any reputable journalist would do: quote confidential first hand eyewitness accounts. Unfortunately, she omits the fact that the actual star of the first hand erotic encounters was herself! Unfortunate, because the huge, possessive, sexy alien who treated her to the absolute best, and longest, carnal adventure of her life is not about to let her forget it. Neither does he appreciate being ignored ...

Anna Zaires set the stage for Amy and Vair's sultry push-and-pull romance in The X-Club. And Hettie Ivers nailed it in this mind-blowing, orgasmically seductive follow-up! Vair is everything you would want in a Krinar lover: mysterious, dominating, lusty, protective and, thoughtful. Amy has quite the lucky and exciting future.

I have been quite at the edge of my well moistened panties waiting for this particular Krinar Kindle Worlds story to come out. Hettie Ivers captured my imagination and adoration with her Werelock Evolution trilogy (Slip of Fate, Fear the Heart, and Revenge of the Wronged). These stories featured the most sensual, complicated, humorous, and captivating werewolf warlocks ever conceived! Hettie's writing is eloquent and powerful.

Vair: Beyond the X-Club did not disappoint. My only complaint is the same that I made for Anna's original, The X-Club (see https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...). I WANT MORE! It is my sincere and humble wish that Ms. Ivers will be inspired to write a follow-up to this follow-up. Hey, a girl can dream, right?

*This is my sincere and honest opinion on an author-gifted ARC.*

Re-read in Oct 2018 and YES! it’s just as fabulous as I remembered. Waiting for Krinar Exposé from the edge of my seat ...

I have loved the Krinar stories by Anna Zaires from the beginning and was so excited to learn of more stories being written in this world. This is the sequel to the original story that completes Amy’s story and gives the reader a look into how she came to be with Vair. Amy is a journalist who penned a story that by all accounts should have landed her in some hot water as it exposed what went on in the X-clubs. However it seemed to have the opposite effect and made more people want to go for the experience, everyone except Amy. Yet she is unable to stay away as video of her one steamy night with Vair is threatening to be made public. What will Amy do? Is Vair willing to wait any longer for Amy to come around? This is one hot read that you want to add to your reading list.
I volunteered to read an arc for a review.

Amazing!!!! Hawwwwt🔥!!! Omg, the sex in this book was turned up...I immensely enjoyed this book. The sex, the playing hard to get and the manipulation that went on was great. I really liked Vair and Amy together. Although her character was a little annoying at times, but it worked well with the storyline. I also liked the fact that Amy never expressed her true feelings in return to Vair, which is typical in romance novels. But it also showed how he never really needed her to verbally say how she felt because he already knew...that's what this author was able to get across. Well written Hettie and thanks again for personally reaching out to send me an ARC copy of this very hot 🔥🔥🔥book. I loved it.

LOVED this story!!! A must read!
This was the first book I read in the new Krinar Chronicles, I was beyond excited to return to a world that Anna Zaires started years ago. When I heard this was Amy and Vairs story I couldn't wait to start it. I had always wanted to know what happened after her night in the X-club. Well Hettie did not disappoint with this one. She tells an amazing story and it was everything that Id hoped it would be and so much more. It was hot and steamy in true Krinar style and a MUST read for sure.

I love all the Krinar stories, so I was thrilled to read Vair by Hettie Ivers. She is a new to me author but was highly recommended by many.

Amy is a journalist looking to write and expose. When she is claimed by Vair who is so protective and dominant; Amy has a rough time coping with the feelings she has and how to deal with them. This book was OMG so hot. I seriously needed a cold shower when I finished.

I hope Hettie chooses to write another Krinar story. I would love to read it if so. 5 Stars from Reviews by Reds.

I received an ARC of Vair for an honest review.
description
So here goes, cross your fingers I stay on track….
A few things before I carry on:
1. First time reading an adult alien romance
2. I haven’t read the other Krinar books
3. Last, I think my husband enjoyed this book more than I did.

I have read all of Hettie Ivers books, to say I am a bit stalkerish would be an understatement. When a new books come out, I am all over it, pushing kids out of the way and steam rolling over elders in wheelchairs. I love her writing, and my vocabulary builds with every book.
On to the book itself.
Though, I would love to go into a lot of details, I can’t without giving shit away. In true Hettie fashion, the book starts off with a hot and steamy recap of an encounter that occurred 9 weeks prior. The MC, baby journalist Amy, was tired of writing crap articles for the Herald, so she took it upon herself to do a bit of digging around on the alien race that now inhabits earth. She and her BFF, Jay, do an undercover at the X-Club, where xenophiles (vocabulary boost word) go to play with the K’s.
There she meets Vair, the sexy man-beast alien, and ovaries around the world start exploding.
description

A warning: Panties are likely to combust
In Hettie’s previous books, she wrote about werewolves who were able to catch panties on fire with one look, in this book its aliens, literally, shredding panties with their eyeballs.
I won’t lie, I had to fan myself off when Vair and Amy came into contact.

This book is all consuming, I started it, and within several hours, I was grumpily finishing it. I need more. I need Jay, and Trauce.
I need to know if Vair and Amy can make hybrid alien babies.
ANNND it would be great if Hettie could jump on the adult coloring book bandwagon. OOOOH, or a connect the dot naked Vair diagram.

Storyline: The Krinar have invaded the earth and most humans are terrified of their intentions. Amy is a journalist who is trying to expose an alien sex club in NYC that Vair, a Krinar, is the owner of. They had a one-nighter at the club in a previous novella by Anna Zaires, The X Club, and this is a continuation of Amy and Vair’s story written by a fan author.
Character Development: I didn’t read The X Club but I got the gist of Amy and Vair’s relationship. Although I’m very familiar with the Krinar, I don’t feel this book did anything to develop the characters beyond the superficial. You get some backstory about Amy’s weird parents but nothing deep about Vair.
Angst Level (1-5): 2
Standalone/Series/Cliffhanger: Part of the expanded Krinar World and connected to The X Club by Anna Zaires.
Epilogue: No
HFN/HEA:
Would I Recommend? Only if you’re a fan of Krinar and desperate for a fix.
My Review: Unfortunately, I did not like this book very much. I think it had potential, but the h was incredibly whiny and indecisive and that grated heavily on my nerves. I love the Krinar world, but I don’t think this book did it justice. Vair was by far my favorite part, he is enigmatic and sexy and just wants Amy (for whatever reason) to be in his life. The book is short and much of it is spent on mundane conversations with Amy’s friend and wishy-washy thoughts in her head. I wish there were more interactions with Vair and misunderstandings laid to rest before the conclusion. It was rushed and felt incomplete in the end.
