You'd think a tall woman would fit in on a planet of seven-foot-tall aliens, but even on the ice planet, I'm still a weirdo and an oddity. I'm everything all the other cute, dainty human women aren't.

One guy in particular - the alien Harrec - is determined to embarrass me by pretending he's interested. He's a jokester that flirts like mad and hits on me constantly just to make me feel foolish. He gets under my skin. He makes me so frustrated I want to scream.

When a side-trip to a glacier turns into a nightmare and the two of us are forced to survive alone, I see another side to the enticing blue alien. Even with no one else around, his compliments keep coming and I start wondering if the attraction between us... is real.

Note to self: I have to stop reading Ice Planet Barbarians in public.

I don’t know about you, but I am usually bored to death when I visit the hairsalon. So, I try to avoid going there until I cannot help it. Yesterday, honestly, I spent 4 hours of my life there dyeing and straightening my hair. By the end of the second hour, I wanted to kill myself.
It is a good thing that I had my ebook reader with me.

Anyway, what was I saying? Yes, about the blue barbarians. Not good reading in public.
Firstly, I was giggling like a lunatic and everyone was staring at me. And I truthfully cannot blame them for this.
Secondly, I don’t know why but everytime I was trying to read a smutty scene, a hairstylist would decide to work with my hair.

So, I managed to finish "Barbarian's Lady", but with great difficulty.

And I loved it!
Maybe because I could understand how Kate was feeling. I am 5 foot 11. Even if I am not as tall as Kate, I am a tall girl :) Also I was never in my life skinny. Fit yes, Skinny no. I was never comfortable dating someone less than 6 foot. And it is a good thing that the man I finally married is 6 foot 2.

Kate is feeling uncomfortable when Harrec shows interest in her. His stupid jokes do not really help.

“My eyes!” he’d cried out, putting a hand to his chest dramatically. “Look at this mountain of a human!” And he’d pointed right at me.
The others had laughed, and Harrec had looked delighted at his joke. Me, I’d wanted to crawl under a rock and hide away.

As a result, Kate thinks that he is making fun of her height, of her strength, of her hair, of anything about her. Poor Harrec is only trying to tell her that he loves the fact that she resembles the Sa-khui figure and that she is gorgeous.

Lots of misunderstandings, which caused lots of laughter. This book was a lifesaver, I am telling you. Honestly.

5 Harrec and Kate Stars

* May have spoilers*

This book was the love story of Harrec the tribe's clown, and Kate the insecure woman that thought everyone was making fun of her because she was super tall and built sturdy. Harrec was completely obtuse to the fact that he was hurting Kate's feelings every time he called her names like "mountain of a human", or saying things like “Standing over all the other small females like a mighty sa-kohtsk, your mane like a cloud about your shoulders.” He thought he was flirting and instead he was embarrassing her. Harrec was almost never serious. He was a bit of a fool, annoying a lot of the times, couldn't compliment a woman to save his life, and was a huge klutz. He had a phobia of his own blood. Which was really dangerous for a klutzy hunter. At 6 he watched his dad and pregnant mom get brutally killed by a ta-li on a hunt. He and some other hunters couldn't get to them and could see everything. Then he seen their bloody torn up bodies when they washed up on shore. Instead of it turning him broody and dark he was a big goof always trying to be others laugh.

Kate was super touchy about her height and size. She had a abusive step dad who mocked her and hit her and a mom that didn't care. She had guys that made fun of her. She carried those insecurities to the ice planet and felt like everyone laughed at her. When Kate was embarrassed she would get snappy. Even with her insecurities Kate was outgoing. She wanted to learn to hunt, to track, and to fight. She handled herself well in emergencies. She thought fast on her feet, was smart and very competitive. I liked both Kate and Harrec, but Harrec got on my nerves a lot. I did think they made a good couple when they opened up and started talking. I liked that when Kate realized Harrec really liked her she was okay with his silly jokes. They made a good team. I liked them but they were not one of my favorite couples.

OMG the baby Snow-cat Mr. Fluffypuff. I want one so bad. I love how sweet lil Rukhar fell in love with the kitten. Rukh really shined in this book. He helped Harrec and Kate and was willing to get his son a snow-cat kitten just to make him happy. I am curious about Warrek. He was just so quiet and shy I want to know more about him. Of everyone I care about Brooke the least as she came off fake af. I really liked the book it had some action but it still had a good amount of relationship development, which made both Kate and Harrec more realistic. The ending came out of no where and had me tripping big time. OMG I can't wait to see what happens. Why the hell is the Tranquil Lady back? I have to jump straight into the next book!

Even after 13 books, I still enjoy this series and hope it will continue to be as good! :)

Every story is similar, but at the same time different! It's the first time that I don't mind that!

The big blue barbarians are so cute and their problems with English language is hilarious! :)

This story is cute too: an amazon who has problems with her stature! It's endearing and hilarious at the same time!

And Harrec was wonderful too! He just couldn't get it she has problems with her being a big woman! LOL

His attempts at humor were also fun!

So, Ms. Dixon, write the next one soo! :)

The amazon and her blue man!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: ☺️😮😍😀
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Kate - She was kidnapped by aliens and was stranded on the Ice Planet (Not Hoth). Kate is tall and nearly the size of a Sa’khui female. She has a lot of issues with her size, especially since most of the human women she is stranded with are tiny. It shouldn’t matter since the Sa’khui men are 7 feet tall, but it still bothers her and she feels that it will be hard to find a man that will be attracted to her because of her size.

The Hero: Harrec - He is the comedian of the tribe. He loves to fool around and be silly. He is also a bit obtuse when it comes to the things he says to Kate about her size, he thinks he is complimenting her and doesn’t see how he is hurting her feelings because of her issues with her size. When he first sees Kate he said, “My eyes…Look at this mountain of a human.” Though he fell for Kate when he first saw her.

The Story: Kate was attracted to Harrec when she first saw him, but that disturbed her when he made that comment about her size. He hangs around her a lot but she thinks he just does it to make jokes at her expense. Harrec is actually a really nice guy and has a great disposition, and he flirts with Kate quite a bit, but she thinks he does it only because others are around. It takes Kate quite a while to see that he is actually serious about wanting her.

I love these books and I always end up liking the stories as they progress. However, there seems to be a lot of them where the women have issues which make them seem to witchy or whiny through much of the books. I love it when the female has a sunny attitude from the beginning or at least is determined to make the best of their situation. I wish more of the books were like that.

This book is told in dual points of view via dual narration, like all the other IPB books, it was narrated by Hollie Jackson and Mason Lloyd who I am used to with these books. I like their styles and voices. They do a great job, as usual. This book was a bit shorter than some, the audiobook ran about 6 hours. This story, like a lot of the others has the two main characters going out alone on a journey and that is one thing I like about these books.

Lady and the Scamp
Kate and Harrec as I see them:
Blonde and Blue.
Bean-pole and Bigger Bean-pole.
Shy and Gregarious.
Self-conscious and Lets-It-All-Hang-Out.
Strong and Faints-at-the-Sight-of-Blood.

Yeah, the girly fainter is Harrec. These two are a classic case of opposites attract. The instant Harrec sees 6'1" Kate, his little heart goes pitter patter and he works to make her his. In Harrec's eyes, that means doggedly lavishing attention on Kate. Kate is more than a little freaked out by the attention and more than a little wounded by Harrec's entirely honest, weirdly literal and decidedly unflattering compliments. He has compared her to a tree, a mountain and a big, hairy animal. The boy has zero game, but a heart-winning smile.

Harrec has learned well from his fellow blue barbarians and decides to take Kate off for a little isolated camping trip, hoping to give his romancing of Kate a little kick-start. Well, mishaps follow, and Kate finds she is quite capable in her icy new homeland, while Harrec is REALLY glad he picked the tall Earth woman.

This story is all about these two breaking down barriers to their fears. It is emotional, poignant and often amusing. I love how Ruby Dixon gives each of her Earth females and her blue barbarians very distinctive personalities and quirks. Kate and Harrec were an enjoyable pair. I love an adorable grin on a really good looking guy. Harrec can flash me his all night long.

Still a really good read..… But some things were more jarring when rereading the story.

➖ What I disliked :

➖ The heroines insecurities …her personality revolves around those insecurities…and it took over too much of the story. (Even if some of her issues are somewhat understandable with her past…. It was just too much and over the top.)

➖ The way the heroine talked about the other females/women like they were all better/prettier than her.
(Kind of felt both like she was a teenager or/and like she had a sort of inferiority complex.)

➖ The miscommunication was a little bit over the top and also some of the misunderstandings…. (the language barrier etc. that both main characters should/could have factored in or thought about more.)

➖ Some parts were a little bit rushed and the story should have been a little bit longer with a little more depth.

➕ What I liked :

➕ A big plus for the heroine being tall/statuesque.👏
➕ Tall/statuesque representation 👍
➕ Some funny moments.
➕ Sweet/nice and patient hero.
➕ Rather good banter.
➕ Good chemistry.
➕ Interesting main characters.
➕ A heroine that is physically strong/sturdy enough to carry and help the hero when he is injured/unconscious and also help fight off predators etc. (A interesting and “innovative” idea/concept/ outside the box thinking.)

Didn’t really love this one as much! Kate and Harrec’s relationship was a bit mehhhh.

Kate’s insecurities about her height/weight and her struggles with intimacy are so painfully relatable. And poor Harrec just wants to find his mate.

But the depths of their miscommunication as well as the uncomfortable and misunderstood teasing/banter made me feel… icky.

I found Harrec quite annoying, kind of pushy and manipulative. And he wasn’t charming enough for this to come across as possessive and hot.

After 13 books, I have read many reviews that point out Ruby Dixon’s books are a bit ‘fat phobic’ - I didn’t agree with that at all until this book. But still that’s not a criticism of her writing or this series as a whole, just this book in particular.

I did REALLY appreciate this quote though - “Human males sound rather terrible. Strange how their females can be so wonderful and the males so brutal. Perhaps they have so many females around that they do not realize what a gift they are.” 😂😂😂

Alas, we continue on! Super keen for book 14 after that epilogue!

5 fun & flirty stars!

I love that this series is exploding right now! I'm not ashamed to say that I really have been enjoying this series. Who would have thought I would be lusting after 7 foot tall blue aliens with horns, a tail, suede-like skin, ridges...everywhere, and a spur (you need to read to find out what I'm talking about). But here I am...on book 14 (even though it's really 22 books if you include the novellas) and I'm still loving this adventure on Not-Hoth and want to read more!

I loved Harrec! He is funny, flirty, and sweet. I loved that he was always trying to get a rise out of Kate, and was determined to make her his.

“You may be strong, and you may be tall, but that does not mean you are not attractive or worthwhile, my pretty Kate. A wise male knows this well.”

Oh Kate. Tall, a bit awkward, strong, and unsure if Harrec's teasing is meant as an endearment or a joke. As one who was told in school "I hate that you're so tall", I completely understood Kate's insecurities when it came to her height.

Harrec & Kate are a close second to my favourite couple, Raahosh & Liz.

I think I wasn’t in a mood for a light hearted read and so I didn’t get to enjoy this book to it’s full potential. Overall Barbarian’s Lady was a pretty decent read, but it was one of the lighter ones and so the angst was low and the pace okay.

Harrec was so sweet and funny. I really liked his personality. He’s the only alien that would tease his mate into liking him. Kate doesn’t like the teasing so she continues to ignore Harrec. I really enjoyed the personality of Harrec and Kate. I found it cute and easily readable.

Kate is shy and she doesn’t know how to act around Harrec but there is something apparent, the guy is wearing her down.

If you are looking for a sweet read, low on the angst and high on the cute, then this one is for you. I usually like these kinds of read, but for some reason my mood was in for the heartache, drama and overly dramatic characters.

No surprise here but I loved the book. I thought he hero and heroine both were hilarious and i love how we see their love grow in this book. I'm always impressed how Ruby Dixon manages to find new ways of telling stories in this series, you would think after this many books hey would get a little cookie cutter but they don't....... and she yet again has managed to bring something new and exciting to come. Though we don't know exactly what it is I'm really excited and hopeful that will prolong these series even more. There's always re-reads(which happens) but I love getting new books form this series. I also read the acknowledgements and I'm really happy to see she is writing about another heroine who was stolen from earth but not taken here.

I laughed a lot reading this book and I complete enjoyed it from beginning to end. Kate was sweet and funny and I love that we see her overcome some of her issues. Harrec was so funny and endearing, he saw Kate and that was it. I love all he does to get her attention and I love it even more that he has no clue at the beginning that he's making his job even harder. I can't wait for the next book and i can't recommend not only this book but this series enough.

*on a side not I love that this author is venturing out of the cookie cutter heroines as well. We have all different kinds of heroines and love that.

I'm gonna go on and rate this book. That's how much faith I have in the author!!! LOVE this series! UPDATE*****
Okay so I loved this book. It might have a little something to do with I relate with Kate probably more than any of the others (being nearly 6 ft tall and more big boned than model figured). I felt her pain. Literally lol. I loved the carefree attitude they both had and I loved the ending. It had me on my seat wondering if she was going to start purring for someone else. I thought nah that won't happen but a little voice kept saying "it could though, then what?" Needless to say I was worried for a hot minute.

This book was not very memorable. It is filling the slot where the women is not small or pretty. She's big and tall and ungainly. So, I very much sympathize with her, but the book seemed clunky.

I absolutely loved this slow burn, fated mates romance!

Kate is feeling a bit like an alien herself because the other women on Not-Hoth are tiny and dainty. And there is one barbarian that keeps reminding her of her unusual height - Harrec. She is tired of being the butt of his jokes. He always has to point out her insecurities to everyone.

Unfortunately, Harrec doesn't realize that he is making poor Kate uncomfortable with his comments. He thinks he is just complimenting her stature. He actually believes that he is flirting and doesn't understand why Kate isn't reciprocating his affection. So he decides to use the barbarian custom of whisking her away from the tribe.

When Kate finally realizes Harrec's appreciation for her body, sparks fly.

Highly recommend this series, guys!

Reading around 2nd time. This is Liz's story but with Aheko - like Liz 2.0 (minus sassy mouth) with irritating Aheko that is what Kate and Harrec feel like.

When Ruby had the cover reveal of this - I asked her 'don't you think the girl is rather tall?' to which she replied 'Kate is a big girl and so it seems...

We, women, are very insecure about our bodies - small or tall, fat or thin and the list goes on and on...

Kate's suffering is something I can relate to. I was never heavily built but I am tall and was super thin growing up so I know how it feels when people comment about your imperfections all the time *sigh*

Harrec also got on my nerves because he doesn't know how to complement his mate at all! I mean how clueless can you get buddy! But in the end, I ended up liking him too...

I skip over all sex scenes because let's face it - there is absolutely nothing new about them - same old, same old and before I knew it, the book was over so I finished it in less than 2 hours but it's ok...

The next one seems interesting....so let's hang around ladies...

Kate + Harrec

Reread: May 2021, 3 Stars

Wow, I did not enjoy this one that much of the reread. So weird since I've been enjoying them all more... Like I said below, there is not much (at all) that happens plot wise, this is mainly a caregiving trope, with Kate taking care of Harrec who is very accident prone. I love the next book, so the epilogue was exciting. But I was just trying to get through this book... there was a lot of miscommunication in here as well. Just not one of my faves.

Originally Read: August 2019, 4 Stars

6'1, pale blonde Kate is attracted to Harrec, the smiley and always joking around Sa-khui. He always teases her, and she is very insecure about her height. She thinks that Harrec is insincere about his affection towards her.

This one was very cute! Loved the banter between the characters. It was pretty simple plot-wise, it being them mostly traveling towards the Elder Cave. But their chemistry was great right from the beginning and I liked that that was the main focus of this story.

Sadly, I wasn't invested in this. My favourite character was the kitten. I felt like nothing was really added to the story. This was only 200 pages so I don't exactly have anything to say lol.
☼ ☼ ☼
Short to the point synopsis
Kate feels out of place with her being so tall compared to the other women. Harrec tries to flirt with her by teasing her, but it comes across as bullying. Kate dislikes Harrec but also gets turned on because he is cute I guess. They end up getting stuck together on a glacier and have to survive. Of course, they fall in love along the way.
☼ ☼ ☼
Characters
Kate - 6’1. Tall. Insecure. All she talks about is her height. Shy. Grumpy?

Harrec - Flirty. Kind of dumb. Bubbly. Sunshine?
☼ ☼ ☼
I will continue this series because I do love this world and I am excited for the next book. Ngl, sometimes it feels like the quality of this series has gone downhill.

Sigh to be very truthful I did not finish this story... I skimmed through it hoping that I would come to like Brooke but I didn't. The chip on her shoulder w/just too big...poor her...everyone hated her because she's big...really?

I just never saw what Harrec saw in her...love is blind.

The author has other books ...and future books I will read but I think I am finished w/this series.

I love this series... I love the first books...now? Meh....

Barbarian’s Lady is book thirteen of the Ice Planet Barbarians series by Ruby Dixon.

Should you read the series in order? Yes, I think you should.

This was another enjoyable read in the series. You’d think that by now things would get old and same old same old, but the author manages to add new things and keep the series going. I can’t get enough of these blue aliens.

Harrec is the funny loving alien. I love a sunny hero even if he is a bit clueless at times, but with the culture differences that’s to be expected.

Kate the tail giant or so she feels in a place that only has petite humans. She’s one of the bought humans, who is now free and has to find a way to live on this ice planet.

This one is a bit more funny and sweet with lots of misunderstands, which cause lots of laughter. Harrec likes to tease or so it feels too Kate that that's what he's doing, but he's trying to show her how he feels. Kate’s prickly demeanor doesn’t detour Harrec in winning his women. I enjoyed their romance and watching it unfold. It’s a cute story and a lot of fun.

Barbarian’s Lady was another fun and satisfying read.

Another enjoyable entry in the Planet Blue Balls saga. I gotta say I’m impressed how Ms. Dixon manages to give me a little something new while playing with the familiar formula for this series. Kate’s a bit of a Negative Nelly at first and Harrec is a bit oblivious to how his “compliments” landed like a lead balloon with her, but as they grew on each other, they grew on me. Onward Ms. Dixon...I’m still riding this cracky fun train with you.
