She is a five foot seven long list of things he can’t have.

He is a determined cop, desperate to keep his heart sealed behind his badge.

Michelle is a survivor. With a fresh perspective on life, she trades her tragic past in California for the coastal waters of Charleston. Fueled by a new career as a dispatcher, she’s determined not to let her scars weigh her down. She apologizes for nothing, especially her insatiable need for a certain police officer.

Rowdy is a newly minted sergeant dedicated to his job, but the life of a Charleston police officer has never been more dangerous. With his need to take order of a city spiraling out of control, the last thing he wants is an entanglement with a mouthy dispatcher. But, there’s just one problem. He can’t get enough of her.

As the heat rises between the unlikely pair, so does the tension.

Three months of summer was all it took to shake their foundations, rattle their walls, and bring them crashing down.

It was lust.

It was love.

It was real.

And it would have been perfect . . . if it wasn't already over.

5 Stars!!

I’ve read and enjoyed several books by this author and I truly loved her ‘Balls in Play’ series, but, in my honest opinion, 'Brave Line' is Kate’s best work to date. This author’s newest release is gripping and held me captive from the beginning until the end. Filled with sweetness, sexiness and emotion, 'Brave Line' is engaging and real. If you, like me, are a fan of this author, or you are looking for an entertaining story filled with pretty much everything, you have to try this awesome read.

“The truth is, everyone is going to hurt you. You just have to find the ones worth suffering for."

- Bob Marley

Looking for a fresh start, Michelle has moved from California to Charleston a while ago. She now works at the Charleston Police Call center and most of time loves her new job. She has been crushing on Sergeant Randall Owen Day, aka Rowdy, for over a year and knows that this crush is a complete waste of time, since he has made it clear he is not interested. His crystal blue eyes, however, at times tell otherwise. Needless to say, Michelle knows that Rowdy feels…something too.

“Michelle was a 5’7” list of things I couldn’t have.

Through our brief conversations, she seemed like a good woman...for some other man.”

Rowdy likes Michelle…more than 'likes' her actually. He is aware of her beauty and is intrigued by her. However, he has one rule he has to respect – he doesn’t mix work and pleasure. Things change between Michelle and Rowdy one night, when Michelle becomes too alluring for Rowdy to resist the temptation. When he finds out she’s looking just for some fun between the sheets, Rowdy is more than eager, to show her how much he wants her... but just for one night.

“I’ve thought about putting my cock in your mouth since the minute I met you. As soon as I get you alone, I’m going to spread those legs and wrap them around my head and then I’m going to lick everything between them. And then I’m going to come down your throat. I warn you now, though, I’m fucking filthy.”

One night, however, is not enough for Rowdy. He is more and more fascinated with Michelle, but he’s convinced that he can’t be the man for her because of his past.

I loved this one! I loved the sweetness, the sexiness and the emotional aspect. 'The Brave Line' is wonderfully written and very engaging and has an interesting premise. The story-line is fantastic, mainly because it has a little bit of everything in it, my favorite being the angst.

I adore these two main characters. Both of them are well portrayed, likable, real and relatable and have a lot of depth. Michelle is definitely my kind of heroine. I found her character to be very endearing and genuine.

“She kept me engaged, kept me occupied, kept me hungry.”

Michelle’s past is heartbreaking and I truly felt for her. She’s a survivor - a warrior, a woman who despite her tragic past continues to be strong and continues to believe in good men. I loved her strength and resilience as well as her personality, sense of humor, confidence and intelligence. And I loved how, despite everything, she continued to move on. Her vulnerable side, which I found to be endearing, made her more relatable, at least for me.

I also adored Michelle for the fact that she taught Rowdy how to move on, how to smile and, most of all, how to love. She is amazing!

Rowdy is yummy…most of the time. Even if he pissed me off a couple of times, overall, I found his character to be likeable and well-developed. He’s protective, possessive and bossy. I liked how his past was revealed and I really sympathized with him. The way he kept Michelle at arm’s length frustrated the hell out of me, but, in a way, I understood his point. Even if he was a douchebag at times, I still liked him. He was sweet and caring with Michelle and I loved seeing how he gradually figured out that she’s perfect for him in every way.

“She was perfect in every way for me...and no other man.”

The chemistry between these two is off the charts! Together they are fantastic – in and out of bed. I loved their banter, their interactions, the sweet times, the fun and happy scenes and, most of all, their sexy times. These two are simply combustible together - the author did an amazing job portraying their deep connection!

“I’m not breathing for ghosts anymore. I’m breathing for you.”

Overall, 'The Brave Line' is a fabulous read! It’s sweet, sexy and emotional, and I highly recommend it if you want to read something enthralling and well written!

I’ve read (and loved) every book Kate Stewart has written. Some of her books have mega angst, some are super sexy, others are laugh out loud funny, but my favorite books by her are the ones that get me right in the feels. The Brave Line is a read that will touch your heart and soul. It’s a stunning, gut-wrenching, emotional, and phenomenal read. Definitely one of Kate’s best books and a favorite of mine this year.

This book is a complete stand-alone, but we do meet Rowdy and Michelle in the ABM/Major Love books. Michelle is April’s crazy fellow 911 operator, and Rowdy is a cop and one of April’s best friends. There are sparks between Michelle and Rowdy from the start, but Rowdy doesn’t date/sleep with anyone he works with so Michelle is off limits… until she’s irresistible…

One of my favorite things about this book was how real it felt. It took two people with challenging jobs and shed some light on their professions. Being a nurse, I know how it is to work in a high-stress/critical field. That being said, I could never imagine being a cop. Or being married to one. Rowdy is honorable in his profession. I can’t even explain how I felt when given the insight to this profession. And knowing that the scenarios in the book were real life scenarios just made the story that much powerful. This story will give you a whole new respect for our men in blue.

 photo Line-2_zps6buw20e0.png

Michelle is a hilarious and fun heroine, but I loved getting to see her soft and vulnerable side. She has a past that has scarred her, but she’s open to love, which only shows how strong she truly is. Rowdy has his own issues that have to do with his job and things that have happened to him. He is a hero and he’s a bit damaged, but he is also strong and tried his best to work through his issues. I adored the two of them together. I loved the laughter, the banter and all the fun they had. I also loved seeing the serious and emotional side of their relationship. And the steam… the sexy time in this book was intense and smoking.

This book has everything I love in a story. Emotion, steam, laughter, and just enough angst to keep me completely and thoroughly engaged. Kate Stewart took her writing to a whole different level with The Brave Line. I was blown away by this incredible story. One of my top favorites from this author, as well as a top favorite of mine so far this year. I can’t recommend this book enough!
“You’re worth it, Rowdy. You are so worth suffering for.”

My heart is pounding.

My palms are sweaty.

My skin is tingling.

My soul is singing.

Everything inside me is on fire.

I am ridiculously happy. Floating high on a mighty blissful cloud of EPIC bookworm feels! I'm struggling to find words. I'm struggling to fully describe how perfect this story is. I don't know how to really make sense of all my feelings in a way where people will understand. I've read all of Kate Stewart’s books and this book is without doubt her best yet. The Brave Line is OUTSTANDING.

Everything about The Brave Line will just burn you to the core. It will cover every base, tick every single box and steal every part of your heart. I kid you not, you will FEEL IT ALL. There is no emotion you will not experience. When a book can be heart breaking but heart warming all at the same time you just know you've got yourself a winner.

The Brave Line follows Michelle and Rowdy. I cannot begin to tell you how amazing these two are as individuals AND together. Both are incredibly broken, heavily influenced by very different pasts. Yet they are sensational in every way possible.

Michelle was a surprise to me. I never expected a character with such depth. Michelle stole my heart, almost immediately. I didn't care that she wasn't always perfect. I didn't care that she had flaws and she wore them on her sleeve. I simply didn't care because to me, Kate wrote her in a way that was understandable. We follow Michelle, we learn her past, we learn her pain and it made me FEEL for her, love her.

I'm not sure where to begin with Rowdy. Everything I want to say about him would probably mean I was here until the end of time. I loved him that much. The guy attached himself onto my soul and wouldn't budge. But then I wouldn't want him too either. Rowdy is beautifully broken, built from devastation and pain. His hard exterior mixed with his want and need for better made him undeniably perfect. Rowdy rocked my world with his wicked ways and sinful mouth. Imagine my delight when the hot cop was also a dirty one. *praise hands* Even when Rowdy was being a total royal pain in the butt I adored him. Like Michelle I was drawn to him. And will remain drawn to him indefinitely.

Together though, together they consumed me. Together they wrecked me. Together they made me so happy. Nothing came easy for them, yet they worked. This book didn't need any unnecessary drama from outside sources, Rowdy and Michelle had enough personal roadblocks to deal with and here is where Kate played on the passion and intensity of the characters. The relationship between them is tense and raw while being incredibly hot, but it's also devastating and I spent so much time WISHING, FEELING, getting wayyy too emotional over the fact that their heartbreak was stopping them from finally being happy.

But by the end, the powerful, heartbreaking journey that I'd been on ended on the most blissful high. I'm not sure whether I devoured this book or it devoured me. My heart and soul have been tugged around, broken and rebuilt impeccably. I am so in love with this book that I don't want to pick up another. I'll happily remain in hungover state for a while. And no, I won't feel bad about it, because The Brave Line is flawless perfection and will undoubtedly be one of my top reads of 2017.

The Brave take the line.

Straight up, I know that I could not marry an officer…and I mean any officer. Sure, there are plenty that I could fall in lust with because some of those Coppers, Firies, Medics and Service Men are FINE!! But, I know I’m not strong enough to watch them walk out the door and face danger every day. Yes, you could easily say that an accountant faces danger by hopping in his car, yet he doesn’t go looking for danger. And again, yes, I know they don’t go LOOKING for danger, but it is part of the job. I’d be petrified every day, and this book probably just made it worse. Lucky for me, hubby works from home and the extent of the danger he faces is a crick in his neck from sitting at his computer too long. The Brave Line is a glimpse into the lives of officers and the call centre workers who live, hear and deal with the calls that come in.

Bloody Kate Stewart, she really loves messing with my brain. Straight up, I’m going to admit something that will probably shock you. Nearly every one of her heroes I’ve hated for a time. Rowdy, well he takes the cake. I wanted to kick the douchewaffle where the "sun don’t shine" numerous times. Officer Arsehole, doesn’t do relationships and makes it as plain as he can that for him, sex will not make him fall in love. The problem is that his attitude was just plain rude. Sure, he doesn’t want to lead women on, but common courtesy goes a long way. So, for the majority of this book, I hated Rowdy. The problem is, Kate Stewart always talks me round. She works on my heart strings, brings on my tears and pushes their deep and true feelings at me, that I cave. I’m as bad as the bloody heroines.

Where Kate Stewart excels, though, is her real way of portraying the characters. They point blank admit their stupidity. Own their mistakes and can articulate why they are the way they are and where they’ve gone wrong. It’s very hard to hold a grudge against someone who admits their faults AND is willing and prove their willingness, to work at changing. How’s a romantic gushy mushy reader supposed to deny that? Well, this little ducky can’t.

So, knowing that I may hate my hero for a wee while, I stepped into The Brave Line waiting for the first blow. Well, it came and I survived. I think it may have a wee bit to do with having a soft spot for men in uniform, so I have to give them a little leeway. I mean, what these guys face on a day to day basis SUCKS!! What I have now come to realise, is that the call centre workers who take the emergency calls, have it just as bad…but in a different way.

How would you handle taking numerous calls where someone is either screaming or crying in your ear? Me…not sure I could do it. Well, Michelle, she’s a tough chick. She’s FEARLESS!! Unfortunately, she became fearless after making one of those calls to the call centre. This chick was amazing. Michelle has faced danger, lived through it and became a fierce and lively woman who makes the best of every day. She also needs to protect her heart a little better.

I really enjoyed the journey reading The Brave Line. We got to see some of our old friends pop up and got to meet some new and interesting ones too.

There were plenty of steamy scenes to get the heart pumping and it was obvious to me that these guys had a connection.

The Brave Line was not an easy read. Some of the scenes were a little hard to take but never more than I could handle. There is one scene that broke my heart and what made it even worse was the fact that it was something that we are unfortunately seeing more of lately.

Police officers don’t just have to face the bad guys, they also have to face that some bad guys are standing by their side. The fallout of a bad decision by an officer, especially in this day of social media, can be catastrophic. There are no easy answers…but my heart goes out to the good officers (doing the right thing) and the victims (who may not have been doing the right thing) who have to live with their consequences.

Kate Stewart you suck…but I love your work!! Can’t wait for more suffer, pain and torture…that leads to a happy ever after.

5+ 'Fearless' Stars!
ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
photo The Brave Line - Kate Stewart_zpsskjermyt.png

My dear Kate Stewart, you are a fucking genius! I knew this story would be amazing but it was so much more than anything I could have expected. This is not the typical love story, guys. The Brave Line is an angsty, funny, heartfelt and oh-so-sexy masterpiece.

This novel is a standalone but it can be considered part of the Balls in Play world because we met our main (and secondary) characters in that series. This story focuses on a hot cop (Rowdy) and a sassy dispatcher (Michelle) who are now responsible to be the protagonists of one of the most emotional stories I have ever read.

“You really shouldn’t play with fire you can’t control.”
“Where’s the fun in that?”

Rowdy and Michelle have just become one of my favorite book couples. Their story grips you from the first moment to the last. It’s extremely sentimental and that made me love The Brave Line even more. Rowdy is such a unique hero. He is a no-relationships man (a man who still is very much affected by his past) but Michelle changes everything for him.

“I don’t fuck and fall in love, no matter how good it feels.”

Michelle is as unique as the hero. A woman with a mysterious and heartbreaking past who fights with all that she has to become the woman she really wants to be. She is so strong and so fresh, which made me adore her as the heroine. And, as you can imagine, these two together? MINDBLOWING. The angst, guys, the angst! And the sex! Holy Mother of God, my Kindle was burning!

“Rowdy.”
“Say it again.” He swiveled his hips and then pushed in further until I was full. “Are you owned, Michelle?”
“Yes.”

We were locked bodies and scarred souls completely exposed. And it was okay because I wanted him to have a piece of mine.

Their chemistry is out of this world amazing. These two gave me all the feels with their funny, sexy and heartfelt moments. Kate, you wonderful woman, you made me cry my eyeballs out. And I loved it! And the ending.. just PERFECT.

“I’m not breathing for ghosts anymore. I’m breathing for you.”

Therefore, my rating for The Brave Line is (obviously) my special 6 STARS because this love story definitely is one of my favorites of 2017 and of all time! Kate is a mastermind and I want to thank her for this outstanding novel and characters! If you still haven’t read anything by her, The Brave Line is a great way to start. Let me tell you, you don’t want to miss it!

This is my first Kate Stewart book, and I'll tell you this it won't be my last. Gah her writing, and then Rowdy's dirty talking mouth he is an Alpha in the most delicious way.

There are already so many fab reviews out there already so I'm just going to share a couple of my thoughts while reading this.

This book is as raw and real as it gets, being on the police force is far away as glamorous as you can be. What I loved about this book is seeing into Rowdys day, seeing what he went through, what he saw and the insights he had, plus his turmoil on his own life had me gripping my kindle to my stomach many a time.

 photo F8C3F9CA-95B8-45DF-B2B3-EA99B919432D_zpsy2vrdfdj.gif

He also doesn't let people get too close, he's a closed book because he has felt and lost and doesn't want someone to feel the loss he's felt. He's scared bottom line, but then there's Michelle's soothing voice to pull him through.

 photo A5DD790A-3406-4A3E-95C7-124E2C1D5134_zpso3wqy9i6.jpg

Michell was the voice at the end of the line, the person who told Rowdy where to go and where he needed to be next, she was also the light to his darkness, and likewise him to her. Michelle has recently got out of a divorce and holds her head high. She is tough and rolls with the life she's gifted. This book is as real is it gets, it holds onto every cell of your body, makes you think, makes you to understand and then teaches you how to breathe.

Then there was the SEX!! Damn girl, I think cause I was so into this book and connected to the characters those moments were intense time and time again. It was never enough and it wasn't too much, it was a great balance of everything I adore in reading romance.

 photo 66151502-CC49-43E3-B6A7-A0CCA09DD79F_zpsoemydoi0.jpg

That's it, I highly recommend this read, it really will wrap itself around you while you are reading...

Enjoy, kisses Katy Xoxo

5 Sergeant Sexy Stars

NOW LIVE!

Review @ Vanilla & Spice Books

“The truth is, everyone is going to hurt you. You just have to find the ones worth suffering for."
Bob Marley

PLOT INTRO

It is one of those bad summers that seems to bring out the dirt. Charleston Police have their hands full to keep the city's crime under control. It is a thankless job and cop Randall Owen Day, or how his friends call him, Rowdy, has the night shift. What keeps him going on a daily basis are his best friend, his dispatchers and guilt.

"Are you going to worry about me tonight?"

Michelle has been carrying a torch for Rowdy for two years. The guy is so hard to crack she has almost given up on him when she is invited to a bachelor party. Michelle is having a dry spell so she is more than ready for a tumble between the sheets.

Rowdy feels Michelle's pull, and he isn't blind to her beauty but not only does he not mix job and pleasure he also isn't boyfriend material and that's what she deserves.

Michelle was a 5'7'' list of things I couldn't have.

However, when she offers a night without strings he can't resist any longer. In no uncertain times he tells her that this will be a one time thing, something he doesn't intend to repeat. Unfortunately your heart doesn't always listen to your logic and Sergeant Day keeps indulging in the sexy fruit that was actually off limits.

And looking at Michelle caused me to want and that would lead to need.

Michelle is one of those heroines I won't forget. She is beyond strong and resilient, a survivor with enough steel to overcome life's deepest and darkest places. Her past that had her fleeing her home in California has shaped her. But she also has a softness about her, a tenderness and kindness that makes you fall in love with her. Always a comeback and the F-word on her lips she is smart and funny. Her beauty isn't only a facade, she carries a light that made me root for her throughout the story.

Rowdy is what you expect from a hot cop - pure male, bossy, super alpha and happily single. He has grace and despite his alpha-hole ways an integrity about him. Rowdy is no stranger to loss so his motifs for keeping things impersonal with women are comprehensible. From the beginning to the point when he cracks it was tangible how he kept Michelle at arm's length. The whole time I was wondering what it would take for him to move past his own hang-ups. And when the tables turned it was beautiful to see him grovel. And just as gratifying to watch Michelle putting herself first.

"One day you'll forgive me. One day. I'll wait for that day. Because I waited for you so long that I forgot what I was waiting for."

Rowdy's and Michelle's chemistry is AH-mazing. They are beyond combustible.

We were arms, legs, hips and sensation. He burned through me, yet I was insatiable for him. I would never get enough.

This story was an emotional roller coaster and I am a fiend for those. I was captivated and it had me engaged in the character's journey from beginning to the end. There is a lot of snark and some angst. The back stories of both characters are revealed later on and my heart broke for both Michelle and Rowdy. The only thing I would have liked to see more of is the epilogue - while we do get one I'd have loved to see them further in the future. However, that's probably just me being addicted to these two. At any rate it gets the #allthefeels #allthestars tags.

Kate Stewart rocked my world with this story. I have had some of her books on my Kindle forever and never got around reading them. Time to lay low on the ARCs and focus on my TBR, right? I love this author's writing style, it is effortless, witty, with small doses of somberness that fit the atmosphere. I have found a new author to obsess about.

5 Phenomenal Stars*****

I read The Brave Line from cover to cover in two days; two days that felt like pure literary heaven in my hands. I cried, I laughed, I got aroused and everything else in between.

Reading a Kate Stewart book is like having a visit with your best friend; you know you are guaranteed to have a great time, you'll laugh hard, and perhaps cry too, but in he end, you know you'll leave with your heart full of wonderful.

This book was everything!

Michelle was such a memorable heroine and perhaps even my most favorite one this year. She is so funny, so courageous and lively, I just loved her. And Rowdy, well... this hero was perfection in my book. I'm still not sure if I wanted to fix him, or let him brake me, I think either way I would be happy. The Brave Line was truly an irresistible read, and I can see myself reading it again, and again.

 photo 3E60D3C5-7113-43F9-87CB-9D1D7DC804AB_zpsi4mitx75.jpg

Michelle has a very painful past that she's escaped from. She moved to Charleston from California with a new perspective in life. Her new job as an emergency operator is not easy but she loves it, specially the part when she gets to talk to the sexy cop who's been in her mind since the first day she met him, Rowdy.

Of course Rowdy has noticed Michelle, her good looks and larger than life personality are impossible to miss. But Rowdy has two rules in life, he doesn't do commitment, and he doesn't date anybody he works with. Rowdy has experience enough losses in his life to know that love only leads to heartbreak. Also his only focus in life in his job, and is too dangerous to afford any distractions.

The more Michelle sees Rowdy the quicker she's falling for him, and she has decided that if she's going down, she's going to take him down with her. Lucky for us we go along for the ride, and like a car chase you will feel exhilarated, excited, and even a little it scared.

Read this book and surrender to the amazing pen of Kate Stewart as she takes us on a beautiful journey, that will incarcerate the hearts of anybody who reads The Brave Line.

This book is a very special book for me. Not only is it by an author that I absolutely LOVE and ADORE, but I’m in it ;) I remember when I read the first draft that I found it so odd that Kate got me, I mean shit, we are talking two people who live on different coasts, who interact on Facebook, and she still got me. Loud, mostly unapologetic and pretty much dropping f-bombs like crazy. It’s an awesome word. Everyone should say it more. To Kate, Thank you. Thank you for your friendship and thank you for giving me all the sex and assplay. You so know the way to my heart and I can’t wait to molest you in Cleveland and Vegas.

So yeah, it’s a very special book. But that is not where the love of this story starts and ends.

The love of this story actually started a book ago. During Major Love, Michelle was introduced at an Oyster Bake, making plans to get a burger right after, because Oysters... YUCK. And making a play for a hot cop (who if you need an image in your head, just picture Henry). You see that girl, in that moment. I loved her. She was life out loud. (this is a standalone – just a slight crossover ;) )

When I started The Brave Line, the copy I read was the early draft, I am not a beta reader. I actually pretty much hate that process but I had to read this, making it clear that I would not be a good beta reader. But once I started I was hooked.

The story kicks off in a fun balls to the walls sort of way, Rowdy finally realizing he can give into temptation if he can believe that Michelle is serious about no-strings, but as the story develops we start to see that both these characters are so much more than what you see.

I was overwhelmed with emotion as we got a chance to glimpse inside the world of Rowdy. The love of his job, the hate of what that job could cost you. The change in times when those looking to protect and serve are all looked at with distain and contempt. I can’t imagine what life is like for a cop who has to face the harsh realities of the world today. The everyday heroes that get shuffled into the bushel of bad apples; the weight that fear must have on a heart of a man just trying to make the world a better place.

As Michelle and Rowdy’s romance kicks off, it becomes quiet clear that this no-strings relationship isn’t all that they are playing at. But Rowdy isn’t going to stop building his walls at every chance. He still hasn’t gotten over his friend’s death and watching his wife deal with losing her husband. But it wasn’t just Rowdy’s hang ups that we had to contend with. Michelle shows up with a past that she’s not too keen to talk about.

The Brave Line has its funny moments and is filled with some filthy taking and sexing; but when I finished this book and I wiped my tears away, what I was left with was that beyond all the laughs and sex, I was moved. It was a great romance, but it’s the bigger story that stole my heart. It was raw, emotional and told in such a respectful way that it gave you an insight to the other view, the side we don’t often get a chance to see. I loved the teasers with the officer interviews, I loved that we got to see how ugly humanity could get, but we also got to see how brightly it can shine, even when it’s being blotted out.

Kate Stewart can write. She can right funny, angsty (Jesus Christ, can she write Angst) and we know she can do emotional reads and if you’ve discovered her alter – God, she’s filthy ;) But in The Brave Line, we see an epically written story. Everything about this was loved. I can’t find a single flaw. My heart was owned by what started out with a girl who was a little in your face falling for a cop who was protecting others from the potential loss of loving someone who could die any day on the job. And it continued as we got to dig deep into Rowdy’s soul and see a side to a life not many get the chance to experience.

This was beyond a five star read. Another top read from a favorite author.

Kate Stewart delivered an emotional story and showed us what it’s like to be a police officer. She showed us the beauty of knowing that when you put on a uniform, you’re risking your life to not only help others, but to make a huge difference. She showed us what it’s like to love a partner that puts himself in the line of fire EVERYDAY and what it means to have a brotherhood.

For all the beauty in the world, this author also gave us a glimpse into another side that comes with the job and the way she depicted both sides was something that I admired. Michelle and Rowdy were two of the most lovable a and frustrating characters I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading about and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

We were locked bodies and scarred souls completely exposed. And it was okay because I wanted him to have piece of mine.

Having lived through her own personal hell, Michelle is now at a point in her life where everything is good. She takes care of herself, has her own career, and answer to no one. Being a 911 dispatcher is stressful but what makes her job more worthwhile is not only knowing that she’s offering some sense of calm in a very hectic situation, but getting to hear the voice of the hottest Sergeant in Charleston? Day. Made.

What happens when the guy who’s been the object of your affection for the past two years suddenly becomes a very hot reality?

You’re going to need your own 911 dispatcher because Rowdy Day is about to make you assume the position.

Rowdy has been a police officer for the past thirteen years and his job is definitely not an easy one. Trying to stay alive in his line of work is only half the feat and when the temperature rises in Charleston, so does the crazy. But the one thing that keeps him sane is knowing that the sexy temptress has him on her radar and she wants nothing more than to get a little piece of him for one night. But will one night be enough?

“I don’t fuck and fall in love, no matter how good it feels.”

I fell in love with this story so hard!! Rowdy and Michelle were two passionate characters that put their all into everything they did. They both had their own demons and seeing how they each dealt with it so differently was what I loved about this story. They were good times, heartstopping moments, but the loyalty and love always remained the same. This is why we read. To feel the emotional connection to the characters that we secretly wish we could be and bask in all the angst filled sexy goodness. If you’re a fan of hot cops, feisty heroines, and a beautiful love story in the making, this one is for you guys.

It’s my personal preference, but I like heroines/women who don’t chase men, but women who make men chase them.

This heroine was very attracted to the hero (for over the year) and didn’t hide her interest. The hero could hide his interest much better *cough cough*

He lost me as he said that the heroine was too eager and gave no chase, but fortunately it didn’t bother her as much as me, so she pursued him and got her HEA. To be honest I must say that she showed more strength toward the end and he groveled a bit...
And if he made her happy then who am I to say something?!

Sadly, I didn’t enjoy sex scenes. The hero was IMO aggressive and too rude. I’m not a prude, but such line as “Are you safe to fuck bare?” combined with his aka “macho”-character, shoving his fingers in her mouth and his permanent denial of any feelings plus her avid pursuit wasn’t very sexy to me.

But again, maybe his tragic past and bruised soul excused his attitude and since the heroine fell in love with him… it was apparently the case of my resentful nature…

The chemistry between Michelle and Rowdy is smoking hot! The two main characters have to decide if what they share is more than just sex. If they can look past their differences and give being together a shot. The author writes a good tale with adorable characters and melt-your-panties sexy scenes.

I highly recommend this book.
Get on it, you won't be disappointed.

5 Fearless Stars!

-You can begin again anywhere you want to in life but you can't recreate your past or the way it shaped you.

 photo 8EE50831-3CA3-4AC6-BB4B-E4B8A5356F23_zpseocqazkd.jpg

Michelle Long is a beautiful woman who moved to Charleston from California after one tragic night changed her entire life. She is strong, confident, brave and a survivor who will never stop fighting for the kind of life she wants to live. She left the fairytale life behind & has built a life she is proud of. She now works as a 911 operator for the City of Charleston.

Randolph Owen Day aka Rowdy is a police sergeant in Charleston. He's a great guy who has wonderful friends, but doesn't have lasting romantic relationships. He's been through a lot in his past & has his heart locked away. He's been a cop for about twelve years, & never breaks his rule of no business with pleasure, but lately one gorgeous, aggressive, openly flirtatious, feisty dispatcher has him wanting to cross that line.

 photo B148C947-01C5-484E-A623-265A65F54F69_zpsfhdroda0.jpg

Michelle has been crushing on Rowdy for over a year & he never seemed interested. She's starting to believe her open & shameless flirting is a waste of time. She's highly sexual & made it very clear on more than one occasion she wants him. He had a body she daydreamed about, & the sound of his voice in her ear every night made her fantasize about him even more.

Rowdy wants Michelle badly. She was after him & he was starting to have trouble resisting her advances. She was pure temptation & the thought of having her became harder to ignore. They both felt the undeniable pull every time they were in the same room. He finally decides he has to have her at least once.

-I'd be damned if every second I looked at him, I wanted him a little more.

-Something about the way he watched me made my pulse kick.

-I wanted him without a doubt, no preface of a future, no plans of any kind, no problem. I wanted him. And from the look in his eyes I was about to have him.

-He'd read my body and my mind and completely owned me from the minute he touched me.

-I was at his mercy and I loved every second.

 photo 9DB0FC47-0664-43E0-BC55-A6AF28152E9F_zpswztvugmq.jpg

Michelle & Rowdy cross that line, and they are explosive together. They decide to satisfy their mutual cravings & just make it a one time thing, but they couldn't get enough of each other. They share an intense connection & he soon becomes a part of her, as her heart gets involved.

Rowdy doesn't think he deserves her, & they both have demons from their past that have forever changed them and altered their lives. Michelle breaks through all Rowdy's boundaries & he begins to fall for her. He doesn't do relationships, but he can't lose her. Will the darkness that still has a hold over him prevent him from having the future he wants, or will he open his heart completely to love?

I really enjoyed this book! I loved what a strong woman Michelle is. She's funny, fearless & lives life her way. She is a woman who knows her worth & loves herself. She was a fabulous heroine, & Rowdy is a delicious cop who I fell for right away. He's kind, sexy, alpha and hot as hell.

 photo 46A3A5D2-E4A5-4A28-AB3A-DD8F865DF444_zpscpllazhd.jpg

-The truth was, I wanted her.

-She wanted to know me. I loved it. I hated it.

-I didn't need commitment, but I wanted her.

-Michelle was my only pinpoint of light. We'd been sliding through the dark together with nothing to hold onto but each other.

-She lived out loud and loved like no other woman alive.

Holy shit! Kate Stewart delivers again and again. No matter what she throws at me I always connect with her main characters and her stories hit me right where it hurts and matters the most. My heart and soul. This time it's more deep and profound. The story and its topics are more relevant than ever when you look at society today. The Brave Line is real and authentic. Stewart captured perfectly what and how life of a cop works and how it not only affects him/her and their families. It's described and depicted perfectly with a rawness and intensity.

The struggles Rowdy and Michelle deal with because of certain trauma in their pasts also makes them more human and relatable. I love the direction Stewart takes the characters, the important topics and the story. There isn't a dull moment whatsoever. I was invested in Michelle and Rowdy's journey. Individually and together.

Rowdy is the cop who doesn't do relationship because of his job. Self preservation and also protection of others. He knows what he wants from a woman when he gets her in bed but outside of that, he cares about the people that matters most to him. In this case April and soon to be Michelle.
Michelle is a fun, honest, wild and fearless woman with so many hidden sides. She works at the Charleston Police Call center. With what she has experienced in her past and how far she's come it's nothing but admirable. She's definitely fought for her life to get where she is today.
Rowdy and Michelle's chemistry is hot like lava. Literally explosive! Damn! They were phenomenal together. In and out of bed. I especially enjoyed the scenes where they got to know one another on a more personal and deeper level. Yes, it wasn't easy because Rowdy had his guard up but Michelle did her best. They connected through deeper conversations and slowly pealed layers off of each other.
The pace of the story flowed effortlessly. The relationship between Rowdy and Michelle was well developed with the perfect amount of depth to both of them. How their relationship evolved was just one of my favorite things about The Brave Line. It wasn't rushed whenever they hit a bump in the road in their relationship. The story took its time which was needed because of its serious topics and I appreciated that. It made me love Rowdy and Michelle even more. Their friendship with April is another highlight and made me smile. Her support of both Rowdy and Michelle proved why they were such a close unit.

I'm a very huge fan of Stewart's work and The Brave Line is phenomenal. In my opinion her best work yet! I love the main characters, Rowdy and Michelle. The topics of the book, especially the police force and how they're viewed in society is important. Stewart handles the topic with such care and respect. She has a strong and loud voice and it comes across beautifully with The Brave Line. Her prose is poignant and stronger than ever. Her mixture of romance, realism and suspense is executed flawlessly and to perfection. I was on the edge of my seat numerous times and my emotions went through the wringer. A powerful story with an important and powerful message. I bow down to you, Kate Stewart. You deserve the praise!

5 Jesus Made You an Asshole Stars!

It is no secret that I am a complete fan of Kate Stewart. Her writing draws me in, every book has been a good read, thus meaning that I have spent a lot of time gushing over her work and trying to review each one to the best of my ability. That being said, I'm not sure I can possibly do justice to her current work. The Brave Line is one of those books that comes along and although fiction, just knocks you back with palpable reality through its beautifully constructed words. This is a romance in which the backdrop of law enforcement creates an equally captivating story that resonates hours after the last word was read.

Welcome to the South, to a summer in Charleston were the temperature outside matches the passion brewing between one of the city’s finest officers and a feisty dispatcher who makes no apology in her want for him.

 photo 8a252178-87c9-4b0a-81f5-77068961adac_zpsayic0dgr.png

The men in blue...such brave souls...dedicated to serve and protect. They are bound by a higher calling to walk the fine line of justice with danger always a breath away. Rowdy is one the good guys and he is "a cop, first and always." He is a man, “like it or not that made decisions that were about the job he was doing and for a lot more than self-preservation.

What happens when everyday actions and dangers to fight crime shape the mindset and the heart in a way that love is a liability? What happens when someone knows that fine line all too well...when someone gets it?

Nobody lives forever.
Death is certain, and we are all on egg timers here.
And honestly life moves on the minute you let go….
I can’t imagine what you go through in the uniform…
I’m not afraid to fall in love….

Michelle is a survivor of the greatest degree. Unapologetic in her pursuit of her needs and unwilling to let life pass her by. There would be no greater feeling than the arms of a woman willing to offer a safe haven from the cruelty of walking the beat for Rowdy. But with pasts scarred by the harsh realities of life, love, and loss perhaps there is no start to something more when the end is always just around the corner.

 photo aadc675b-b4bf-4d74-8e9d-58f1086dfabd_zpsb4icbyp5.png

Rowdy and Michelle may be fictional characters but their story and their road to one another is filled with the most amazingly written words with perfect chemistry...spell bounding foreplay...explosive intimacy.

It is quite a gift when and author can deliver a good story, but to write fantastically well throughout that story is so much more. When a story can keep a reader rapt…when scenes can evoke raw emotion being laughter or tears…when simple words can make an impact in the heart and mind…the author has done more than just write a love story, she has changed lives. Welcome Kate Stewart to the big show where The Brave Line sits atop the best of the best on my shelves.

Whether there is a personal connection in the realm of law enforcement or not,The Brave Line will move a reader. It will make you think…and perhaps stop to pray the next time those flashing lights of a cruiser rush past. This story will invoke anger and make you question humanity all while melting your heart by instilling a sense of trust that there is a better way...that there are a few good men left. This story will have you believe that everyone deserves a second chance and that happiness is there for you to take. At the heart of this tale there is an unbelievable intimacy that will have you wishing that just for one moment...you could be so lucky as to have just a moment of what Rowdy and Michelle had in the pages of this book.

This is one of those it was me, not the book.
I couldn't get into this at all. A lot of the time I felt lost, like I skipped a page or something....

I just didn't feel it, at all. At about 70% I started getting excited but that was about all. I like to get lost in my books, I didn't with this one :-((

I did like Michelle & Rowdy. I absolutely admire their positions, their backgrounds, and their jobs. I did enjoy seeing how far they both come at the end and how they help each other get beyond what they've been through. I just wish I would have felt the story more. Maybe next time....

This was a fantastic story. It was full of heart and soul and one that truly touched me as I read. My first from the author and it was definitely a winner. The characters were sexy, sassy, and saucy. There was so much to this story besides the great banter between Randall "Rowdy" Day and Michelle Jones. A police officer and a dispatcher. Both highly attracted to one another but waited awhile before the attraction got the best of them.

Life as a police office isn't easy and the author's portrayal felt very authentic. The life of the dispatcher and her connection with her officers is also very realistic. Their feelings, their fears, their emotions are all front and center. The highs and lows with dealing with intense situations creates for emotional feelings and the author wrote a very true to life story.

I will say that the relationship between Rowdy and Michelle was passionate, sexy and very hot!!! Michelle was a feisty vixen with a sassy mouth. She was strong and fierce but had a past that she kept hidden. Rowdy was a cocky delicious asshole. But his past weighed heavily on his shoulders which caused him to keep people at a distance. But what I loved most about Rowdy and Michelle was that their pasts had left them both raw and vulnerable. Their chemistry clicked and they found themselves wanting more than a one night stand. But secrets and keeping emotions at bay always have a way to resurface and poke at the relationship. Nothing ever good comes out of not giving of yourself 100% and sometimes when you realize, it's too late.

This story was a simple beautiful love story. There were moments of fun, laughter and passion as well as moments of anger, sadness and pain. The author took me wholeheartedly on Rowdy and Michelle's emotional journey. I became vested in them completely and loved that the journey had speed bumps and spikes. It was truly a story that made me FEAL and those are always the best stories ever!!!!

Well, I wasn't expecting that. I've read my fair share of cop books....who doesn't love a man in uniform? (I'm not picky about it, police, FBI, military, firemen. They are all good.) This book was different from any other romance book I've read though, because it was actually believable and realistic. I grew up around cops, and have close family members who are police officers or work for the police department in the small city I grew up in. Without getting too personal about it, I've seen up close the emotional, psychological toll this line of work can take on a person over time. The main character and his struggles felt very authentic, and while I was reading this I found myself wondering if the author did research or if she was actually married to a cop in real life or something. (She did address this in the acknowledgement page, which was interesting) While the authentic characterization was the strength of the book in my opinion, it was also ironically the reason I assume I didn't connect with the romance. I mean, it's kind of hard when the main character kept reminding me of my brother. Lol. Let's just say I never had that issue while reading Tessa Bailey's hot but unrealistic line of duty series.

"The shit wasn't a game of cops and robbers anymore. It was a game of agendas and forgotten morals, and we were all lost. There was no more black and white, no right or wrong. There was only gray. And how the fuck were we supposed to navigate our way through that?"

This book still "packs quite the punch" second time around. Reminds me why I am such a fan of this author . An emotional and intense read.
*******************

Hands down one of the best books that I have ever read and not just this year. Anybody who doesn't have a deep visceral reaction to the content of this book has to be an emotionless idiot (please don't hate me for that remark).
This is my first book by Kate Stewart and I couldn't put it down. It somehow reached deep inside of me and had me emotionally spellbound. It felt so real and I loved how current and relevant the story was as well as how strongly I felt for Michelle and Rowdy.
PLEASE read this book. I don't know that everybody will have the same gut reaction to it as mine but I promise you that if you like reading books that make you "feel" then this is the one.

UNBELIEVABLY.HOT!

Loved this so much. Rowdy, a cop and the hero in this book is fearful of commitment and Michelle, the despatcher and the heroine has a sad tragic past (We meet both Rowdy and Michelle in April and Andy's book) Michelle has been crushing on Rowdy for the longest time and only needs one night with him to relieve her longest dry spell. She understand he is not one for commitment but as always, the heart decides what it wants. Something that was meant to be a quick fix turns into something more and Kate Stewart did this in the BEST way possible. They were friends, they were lovers and they were work colleagues. I loved the banter and I LOVED THE SEX SCENES! Oh my god, the sex scenes were AMAZINGLY hot. You could feel the heart in every love scene. The book then becomes angsty as Rowdy comes to terms with his feelings.

I loved Rowdy- he is as real as a book hero can be. Hot, sensitive, stubborn and loyal. I felt Michelle was too 'clownish' at times but perhaps it was her way of overcoming things. She was sexy, strong willed and understanding.

Overall, highly recommended. I love Kate Stewart and her books are almost always amazing. However, i think this one was perhaps one of her best.

4.5 Sargent Sexy Stars!

‘It was the man. The man I’d had feelings for almost two years before he’d touched me. The man who made me weak with one look. The man who could control my body with just a breathy whisper. A good man with a good heart who was brave and spent his days protecting others while the world made it hard as hell. He was beautiful and flawed…..’

The Brave Line delivered so many elements we love in a story! Sexy dirty talking protective and possessive alpha hero, sassy heroine who gave him a run for his money, chemistry that was off the charts, steamy scenes that melted our Kindles, a smidgeon of suspense and a decent helping of emotion which had us tearing up, fabulous writing and a story that kept us glued to the spot!

Kate Stewart is a versatile author, we've sampled her rom-com and erotica, itching to read something more from her. The Brave Line synopsis hooked us immediately, suiting our current reading mood to a T, and it didn't disappoint!

“I’m not a hero, period. For anyone.”
“Every time you put on that uniform and do the right thing, you are, no matter what happens.”

Randall Owen Day (Rowdy) is a 32 year old Police Sargent, lured into the Police Force in his youth after a painful and tragic event saw him and his three friends, April, Tyler and Kurt joining the Police to make a difference to the world. Years down the track, that youthful enthusiasm has given way to bitterness and cynicism as life on the streets, the loss of fellow police officers and friends together with an often thankless public have all left Rowdy rather jaded.

Michelle Long is a 29 year old dispatcher with the Charleston Police Department. She's in the frontline taking calls, worrying about the officers and assisting the public head on. Michelle too is plagued by events of her past that haunt her to this day, though she's come out tougher and more confident in herself and is a true survivor. Both Michelle and Rowdy deserve a second chance.

‘I would let love rule in my heart and take a piece of my soul, but I would never let its loss destroy all of me.’

Michelle and Rowdy hid a simmering lust fest for nearly two years and it's only now Rowdy is returning her flirty advances but he wants filthy sex with her -end of- and makes her an offer we *cough cough* she couldn't refuse… “As soon as I get you alone, I’m going to spread those legs and wrap them around my head and then I’m going to lick everything between them. And then I’m going to come down your throat. I warn you now, though, I’m fucking filthy.” And bloody hell, he sure was, but Michelle is no shrinking violet, she’s a sexual creature and Rowdy’s declaration sends her in a tailspin of want…as it did us!

This story really was a mixed bag. We expected steam, but bloody hell Rowdy and Michelle BURNED UP the pages; we nearly combusted! Then the emotion of the story hit and as it all unfolded with hearts being laid bare, we found ourselves experiencing a torrent of feelings for both these characters who carried painful reminders from their pasts, struggling to break down their walls.

She wanted to know me. I loved it. I hated it. I had nothing to offer. I didn’t need commitment, but I wanted her.’

Kate Stewart had our hearts in our mouths when she took us to the frontline with Sargent Day, capturing the heart palpitating minutes when these guys encounter life and death situations each day. She then held our hearts in her hands as Rowdy and Michelle came to grips with their feelings.

“I swear to God, the only thing I want to protect now is you. I’d go to war for you. I’d fight every goddamn battle for you even though you don’t need me to.”

We loved the dialogue between the characters which played such a pivotal role in our connection to them. We were right there with Rowdy and Michelle, learning their past tragedies, their fears, their pain and their flaws, and facing their demons and feelings head on, in real time. It was witnessing these pivotal moments in real time that ensured this story really hit the spot. What a FANTASTIC READ!

"Then why are you here?"

"Because you're calm water and I'm thirsty as hell."

Cop books are not my thing...add in dispatchers and I'm hitting the floor running. But...but this is a Kate Stewart book we're talking about and I just couldn't not read it.

That doesn't mean things were all rainbows and sunshine...oh no, Kate Stewart gets right to the down and dirty and throws in a heck of a lot of hot and steamy to go with it.

Pheww...there was A LOT of steam that's for sure. Rowdy (Cop) and Michelle (dispatcher) have the hots for each other. Rowdy doesn't date people he works with and Michelle's getting over a traumatic situation so being co-workers with benefits works for both of them. And let me just tell...even I couldn't walk straight after reading some of these scenes! ;)

You might remember Michelle from April's book, Major Love. They work together and Rowdy is April's best friend. It was nice getting updates on April and Andy although we didn't nearly get enough of Andy.

description

Things are moving along smoothly with Rowdy and Michelle, that is, until they're not. Not only getting to know each other more and getting closer but Rowdy's having to deal with some intense things at work. In fact, things get a little hairy. (and a little too realistic!)

By this point, Michelle can no longer fight her feelings but even though she holds back, she does check on Rowdy. Unfortunately, he's in no place to be checked in on and lets Michelle have it.

It takes some good friends and some good reflecting for him to deal with all his feelings...and hey, nothing like a good drama to shake things up.

I liked both Rowdy and Michelle. We did get to see a more dominant side of Rowdy in this book and Michelle is definitely a wild child. However, I love how she's had to make her own way in life. And I love Lucy and Phoebe!

You gotta love the ending...nothing like putting the pedal to the metal! ;)

And please, please let Chuck's book be next...that has angst written all over it!

**The Brave Line generously provided in exchange for an honest review.**

5 "It's called Rowdy Red..." Stars

I adored the stand alone, contemporary romance story in The Brave Line. A book with an important message and a beautiful purpose that makes you laugh as much as it makes you feel deeply resides within the pages of Kate Stewart's latest release. Throughout the book I felt everything. The angst, the heart warming moments, the passion, the turmoil, and the fun - this book was just so much fun woven between the dire moments and the tragic histories of both main characters.

The Brave Line brings a captivating case study of main characters. Rowdy Day - good guy, straight edge, law man with a cynical and battered attitude about life hails as our lovable jerk of a hero. I loved that Stewart's hero walked a straight line and was honorable at his job. His loyalty and love for his friends endeared him to me from the beginning. His futile resistance against a fiery dispatcher made for intensely hilarious and sexy reading. I loved his demons and how he chose to fight them by not fighting them at all. I loved that he was a total alpha domineering in all aspects of his life. Curt to the point of rudeness and he didn't give one solitary crap. Rowdy Day is who he is without apology whether you like it or not.

Enter Michelle Long. Oh Michelle Long, how I wish to grow up one day and be like thee.

"You just couldn't leave it alone, could you.?"

Michelle Long plays the hero in this book too, without a doubt. I loved that she's a wild child from out of town who's insanely attracted to the good-guy-yet-jerk of police sergeant. She's perfectly sassy and sarcastic, and so very sure of herself, who she is, and what she wants. A little spitfire of a woman who's the resident bulldog when it comes to Rowdy and his feelings. She plows right through all his defenses with her wit, charm, and devil-may-care attitude. Her history was fascinating and alluring juxtaposed against great sadness. It's the kind of history with an end result that should and needs to be told more. She's neither fake nor needy just bursting with love and loyalty. Michelle was uplifting in her strength and zest for life. And because of that she innately understands something within Rowdy and allows him to be who he is without resistance on her part - she likes that he's the lovable jerk with the short answers and sarcastic charm. Her strength in this book is unmatched even by him.

What I think I loved most about The Brave Line revolves around the basis of the story starting with the kind-of relationship required between a cop and a dispatcher. By nature, it's a symbiotic relationship that maintains a level intimacy between the two. Whether their romantic or not, the feelings conjured are real and directly relate to the vitality of the men and women who risk their lives for the general public; an always thankless, often fruitless job. The gambit of emotions both uniform and dispatcher run through on a daily basis would make anyone's head spin. The heart Kate Stewart infuses in her words about their jobs and who they are was real and emotional in and of itself. They walk a fine line which I thought she represented well without crippling bias. In addition she highlights the importance of these people and their importance to each other which was really startling and eye opening to realize.

"People wanted perfect cops, but that could only happen if there were perfect people."

This is my second book by Kate Stewart and I'm once again thrilled with the level of "realness" she creates for her characters. These are real men and women who live real lives with ordinary jobs doing extraordinary things. Fueled by issues from their pasts, Rowdy and Michelle take us for a bumpy ride through heated lust, amazing banter, unbridled passion, and the building of a great connection all the while serving the needs of others and trying to perpetually create a goodness within themselves. The Brave Line is romantic and pure with angst and fun laced throughout. I really enjoyed reading this book and think all romance readers will too.

3.5 Mr. Cop Stars

I love Kate Stewart. I love her books and I like her as a person. There are a few things you should know about my reading preferences. I’m a picky reader, there are some books that I just gravitate towards and there are some that I don’t really have interest, but I do like to give them a go. I’m not a fan of cop books. What?! I know. Maybe because I don’t have any experience or I don’t really care for a man in uniform. I married an accountant, so you can see where I’m coming from.

So, here is my honest review…

Things I liked about The Brave Line

I liked the dialogue. I enjoyed the flow of the book and I LOVE LOVE LOVE dialogue based books. I love reading conversations with characters and I am not a fan of monologues. The reading was easy and pleasant.

I liked the steam. I don’t know if this is a new thing but the more dramatic books I read, I feel like the books are becoming more slow burn reads. I found the steam in this really refreshing and added to the chemistry between the two main characters.

I didn’t read Anything Minor or Major Love, but I realized the two characters, Andy and April were in this one and it got me curious about the other books. I haven’t read those books because I am also not a sports fan (I know! I’m crazy).

The book didn’t have much angst and I like that. I’m not a big angst fan. There’s tension, but nothing I wanted to pull my hair out.

The Heroine was strong, feisty and flirty, I found her cute.

The Things I didn’t like about The Brave Line

As mentioned before, I’m not a big cop book fan. I found there was a lot of cop talk. I get it, sometimes you get immersed into the world and it can take a life of its own. Since I’m not a fan of cop books, I didn’t really care for all the cop speak.

I found it hard to relate and like the hero. Rowdy kept on pushing Michelle away and it was just making me angry. He would keep on saying this is the last time, but then treat her like his girlfriend. I felt like if he wanted to truly push her away he should have been meaner. I know, I’m asking the Hero to be meaner, but it would match his actions more.

So, this is kind of odd, but here it goes. In the beginning of the book the author dedicates the book to someone I know. I don’t know her personally, but she’s in the book community. I know of her and because of that, it really hindered my reading experience. EVERY time I read “Michelle” I kept on picturing Michelle’s Facebook profile picture in my head. It was really annoying. I have to say, this is the first time this has ever happened to me. It’s kind of like watching a movie and all you see is the actress playing the part, instead of the character itself.

I found it hard to connect to the characters and the Michelle thing didn’t help. I never fully got them, nor understood them.

I went into the book with huge expectations. I thought the book would be rough, tough and gut me. What I got was a nice book about a cop and a dispatcher, which is fine, but I would have enjoyed it better if I didn’t have these false idea of PAIN, SADNESS, and HARDACHE ya know?

I found the last part of the book really random. I would have liked if this random part be the base of the story and kind of build off of that.

I know I’m kind of random in this review and overall, I liked the book. I don’t think I was the person catered towards it since a lot of people liked it, but I always try new and different books.

Alllll the feeeeeeels. This book was amazing. It's angsty.... but not so much that you are tortured. You get enough to satisfy you here and there. Michelle and Rowdy are the best non-couple. A police sergeant and a 911 dispatcher. You get to watch the dangerous world that they live in and the emotions that go along with it. They both have things in their past that have shaped where they are today. I felt like I could feel all of their happiness and pain while I was reading and there were some tears shed. Enjoyed all the banter between these two. The secret star of this book is Phoebe, the parrot. Completely fell in love with all the secondary characters too. There were so many fun details in this book that had me laughing out loud. Such a clever, fresh story. I wish I could go and read it all over again!
