Amelia and Callum were in love and together for five years. Being scouted, he declines their offer not wanting to leave Amelia and her younger brother Carson, behind since she’s in the process of being granted guardianship of her little brother. Her mum deserted him when Carson was a two-year-old toddler.

Callum is being scouted to play professionally, but he wants to remain behind to help her raise Carson, her seven-year old brother, currently in remission from Leukaemia, sacrificing his future.

She does the only thing possible and shatters his heart by pretending to have an affair with his not-so-great ex-best friend, Tom, she then told him repeatedly uttered that she didn’t want him anymore. Crushing him.

Six months later, they meet up and she’s six months pregnant with his baby..

Once his anger abates and he’s thinking clearly, he reflects on her body language at the time and instinctively believes that she sacrificed their relationship for his career.

“Light bed rest and vaginal rest. No penal penetration” isn’t meant to be interpreted as back door penetration, instead. People-Control your hormones❗️❗️❗️ Callum Johnson. Orgasm Deliverer Extraordinaire.

Carson’s conversational speech was depicted as underdeveloped for a seven-year old.

There is underlying drama involving trumped up drug charges against Callum and Amelia, both were arrested. Amelia was held for three days; Carson’s cancer returns and his health begins deteriorating, the circumstances result in a six week premature delivery.

They persevere to a HEA.

Amelia and her boyfriend Callum have been together for five years. He ends up getting scouted by the NFL but he turns it down to stay with Amelia to help her raise her little brother. Amelia is upset that Cal does that, for he is so talented and she is afraid he will end up hating her down the road for his staying. So she ends up making the decision she did and she lets him go so he can go play professional football, without her with him, as she feels she would only hold him back. The angst is really hard here and I felt for both of the MC here. Cal doesn’t wait around as soon as he heres its over between him and Amelia he leaves that night, and he is doesn’t let the dust stand under his feet; he makes himself become the best player there is in the NFL, using all that anger and pain inside of him as fuel to get him there.
In this story, we see Amelia regret her decision on a daily basis, of the pain she suffers but thinking in her heart, she did it for love , for the love of her soul mate. Such a selfless act and my heart bled for her. You see Cal not being able to let go of that love, not being able to move on. When they are given a 2nd chance with each other, will they take it or will they blow it and continue being as miserable as they currently are? I enjoyed watching the MC rediscover what made them fall in love the 1st time and find the passion and spark the 2nd time. I also enjoyed them being able to open up and speak of the past and all the old hurts in order to set themselves free of the past pain …Great story and I cant wait to read more by this authors.

My rating: 4.0 stars ****

Can Call And Amelia catch a break.. second chance romance. Callum and Amelia were together 5 years before she tore his heart out so he would go follow his dreams. 6 months later when she's granted guardianship of her little brother she is able to leave the small town so she can start her career. She never thought she would see him again since he wouldn't answer any of her calls. And then there he was. .
This book is full of suspense, twists and turns, laughter, love, sadness and a great HEA. This book touches on many life issues. But is tied in nicely. Great book. 5 stars..

a [week] after reading it I'm having a LOT of trouble remembering it. So ... :X that's not good.

Oh.

Sooooooo there are inaccuracies in this book. But really ... the "I'm breaking up with you for your own good" - this time the heroine doing the heart crushing - is annoying. And the whole drug bust thing - it was too much.

OMG, what a freaking mess this book was. And you can't even call it a book, more like a short story. It was all over the place, it felt rushed and was in need of some serious editing. The premise was good but the delivery was so bad it was funny.

Never once did i feel the main characters' connection or chemistry, it was overstuffed with twists and turns just for the shock value with no real substance and it was simply a hot mess.

if you want my opinion, just don't. Do yourselves a favour and move along to something else.

When Callum had the opportunity to go pro, Amelia made sure he took it, even if it meant breaking both of their hearts. But when she learns that she's pregnant, she does the right thing and tells him about the baby. But can Cal forgive her? An okay second chance football baby romance. It kind of fell a bit flat for me, the story was a bit rushed and disconnected, and I just kind of felt "meh" after reading it.

First read of this author and will look for more of her books

I enjoyed reading this book. It keeper my interest through out. The plot twist was interesting, however, it left me question some the actions that came as a result of it. Trying not to give anything away. I loved a lot about this story and would recommend it.

(read 9/2016)

This is a story about a young couple who loves each other so much, they are willing to make sacrifices for the one they love.

Amelia refuses to be the reason Callum misses out on a football career. So, she pushes him away using the only excuse she thinks he will believe. And he does. Quickly. So quickly, he leaves that same night out of town and accepts that NFL contract he had previously declined to be with her. Their paths cross again months later and, after being miserable since separating, he will do everything in his power to stay at her side.

The beginning was a little repetitive. And some of the starts of each switch in POV felt the same. But it did give me insight into what the other character was thinking during the same prior scene. Once that was out of the way, everything else seemed as if it was full speed ahead and you needed to keep up. A lot happened in this little story. Almost too much.

I understood Amelia's emotions - sort of. There were times I liked her and times I truly disliked her. Callum had his moments where I felt his actions didn't coincide with how he felt (immediately after the bathroom scene in his house or how he picked up the "signs" of that night, but chose to not contact Amelia about it). The man had passion, that was evident in each of his appearances. And I loved his commitment to Carson. So a few of his actions and his prioritizing of things going on threw me off a little. There was a lot of push and pull between these two. A lot. I loved the football details but the placement/timing of them in the middle of a crisis (which seemed to come out of nowhere) was a little jarring in the story.

I loved Carson. He's a real cutie and sucked the emotions out of me at exactly the right plot points where it was expected. Because yes, there were parts where I felt emotionally manipulated, but that is the point of a story with certain plot points, so I totally went with it.

Names were an issue for me. Callum/Cal, Carson, Callie, Cody, Carter. Then Griffin and Goins. Johnson and Jackson. I kept them all straight in my head, but repetition of this type often throws me off especially where there are so many other non-relationship shock-factor type events included in a story. This is a personal thing.

And, Griff, honey, you weren't foolin' anyone. :)

Overall, it was a good story, but there was just too much going on to make it flow smoothly for me.

Amelia gets news from Callum, he has been offered a football contract but he has also turned it down. She doesn't want to hold him back, so she does the only thing she can do to make him take it! Callum is left heartbroken by what Amelia does and he can't understand why she's done it. To drive home her point she tells him she doesn't want him, and in the process breaks her own heart. So he does the only thing he can do and ends up taking g the contract and leaving every one and her behind.
A d you can tell by the first couple of chapters how much they both love each other!
6 months later, Amelia has her dream job and so does Callum, they come face to face again! Amelia has one hell of a surprise for Callum too! She's pregnant with his baby!! Callum says a few harsh things to her and Amelia runs off and gets hit by a cyclist so she's taken to the hospital.
Even though they are both hurting, they can't help but feel all those old feelings as they come rushing back. Amelia acts all cold but that's all it is, and Callum realises that he still loves her and he will do anything to get her, his baby and Carson, [Amelia's little brother ] back for good.
He takes her home with him and she meets his roommate and friend Griffin! They share a tender moment but all is dashed once again and Amelia storms out and Griff goes after her. While they are out Amelia realises she wants him back too!
They are all loved up again but then things take a turn for the worse! Amelia is left feeling terrified and she pushes Callum away again but this time he's prepared to fight, and boy does he fight!
OMG, I blasted through this book so quick, which is a good thing. It was fantastic! I really enjoyed everything it and everything that got thrown at Callum and Amelia, they bounced back from! The amount of love pouring from these pages was lovely! The friendships throughout were strong too. I thought it was a wonderful thing what the team done for little Carson! You can get the really sense of family too!
I am so happy that everything worked out beautifully in the end! They made a perfect little family unit! Loved it! Would highly recommend!

Amelia and her boyfriend Callum have been together for five years, but when he gets scouted for the NFL he turns it down to stay with Amelia to help her raise her baby brother. Amelia loves Cal more then anything besides her brother and wants the best for him, so she does what she thinks she must and that is to let him go so he can fulfill his dream. Cal doesnt wait around as soon as he heres its over between him and Amelia he leaves that night, and all the hurt and anger that he has he puts it towards his Career and makes something of himself.

What I enjoyed most about False Start is watching a man who loves Amelia so hard that he isnt able to move on, that after all this time he still regrets walking away, but not understanding why she would say the things she said to him that day. Seeing Amelia regret her decision every day but having to learn to live with what it is, and finding something else she has to live for. Watching the both of them meeting back up again and how their feelings havent decreased any, but grown and that maybe this is their second chance.

This is another fantastic Saylor Bliss book, I couldnt put it down I was sucked into this book and had to know what was going to happen next, there was never a dull moment in Amelia and Callum's story. This story has a Man who loves football but loves his girl more to let his dream go, A Woman who loved her man but didnt want to see him give up his dream so she let him go, feelings on both sides get hurt, A love story and happily ever after. If you like stories like this, then False Start is a must!!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Amelia and Callum are young and planning their future together. Callum is being scouted for Professional Football. An offer is made to him but he turned it down as he knows Amelia needs his help and at the time shouldn't wouldn't be able to go with him.

Amelia is in the process of finalizing her adoption of her little brother, Carson. He had leukemia and her Mom left him for her to raise on her own. Callum has been there through all the treatments, hospital visits.

Amelia doesn't want to hold Cal back. She wants him to go after his dreams. She doesn't think he'll go after that dream unless she's cruel in ending their relationship.

Six months later they run into each other. First glance and Cal knows she's pregnant with his child. In her shock of her encounter with Cal she takes off and ends up getting tangled up with a bicyclist. Cal takes charge taking care of her.

They don't get much chance on reconnecting when life deals them some harsh blows. Her brother's leukemia comes back and while he's in the hospital both Cal, Amelia and Cal's roommate/friend Garrett get arrested for possession of drugs.

This is really a heart wrenching story. Loved how it played out in the end but it sure had me on an emotional roller-coaster while reading this book.

This is a very well written book. I was disappointed that the drugs belonged to Garrett I was hoping that they were 'planted' by Garrett's ex-girlfriend to get back at Cal for not wanting a relationship with her.

I received this ARC in return for an honest review.

This is a second chance love story with a football theme. Callum and Amelia have been together for years. Both thought their future was with each other until Callum gets recruited by a professional football team. He has decided to turn the offer down because he promised Amelia he would always be there for her, especially now when she is trying to get guardianship of her younger brother - Carson. Amelia realizes that Callum needs to leave Fair Grove and follow his football dreams. She won't be the reason he places the "what if" game. So she goes about setting him up pretending that she is now into his best friend and she doesn't want him anymore.
Callum leaves heart broken and begins his career.
Fast forward six months and Amelia is at a new job in St. Louis and runs into Callum. Both wonder if the other still cares. As the two reconnect other obstacles get in their way. When Carson gets sick will Amelia push Callum away because she feels she needs to do this on her own? When they both are accused of selling drugs and Amelia's mom returns will this stop Amelia's custody of Carson?
This is a quick read book with a HEA.

These three stories really reflected the title of the book well.

Cal & Amelia's story was nice. However, it was a bit rushed, and there were a few holes in the storyline. I can't say, though, that it was a horrible story. Their story is one of second chances - for all of the characters. Some take advantage, others don't.

In the second story, we meet Kip & Skila. Skila is recovering from having her heart broken by her ex when she meets and falls in love with another man. When his connection to her ex is revealed, she has to decide how important happiness and peace of mind are to her. This story flowed better than the previous one, and made me curious about whether Kip's brother would have his own story. It was quite a good read.

The last story is my favourite of the three. Charlee has issues. She's down on her luck, jobless and a mother to a newborn baby. Needing to escape from reality for awhile, she visits her twin, and ends up falling for his best friend and roommate, Lucas. He has his own problems, but he's willing to fight for their relationship.

Each story dealt with serious issues: cancer, drug addiction, child abandonment, PTSD - just to name a few. I applaud the writers for tackling them, and will definitely check out their future work.

This is my very first book by either of these authors, but it will not be my last! I actually purchased this book even though I received an ARC free because Saylor has 2 more books included if you purchase a copy of False Start, so I will get to read her two other sports novels that she has released! I truly enjoyed everything about this story! I think the story-line had a very nice flow to it and never did I feel like it ever stalled out. Some stories will flow nicely the first 5-7 chapters and then just kind of stall out and causes the reader to lose interest, but not so with False Start. I was fully invested in the story from cover to cover! Also these authors did an amazing job with character development. I felt a very strong connection to the characters in this story. I like that there was some mystery surrounding Griffin's character that was revealed to us towards the end of the book. It was one of the things that keeps you turning the pages! Amazing job ladies! I look forward to reading more from both of you!

False Start is the story of Amelia and Callum. Their responsibilities, their dreams, ambitions and stubbornness are what split them apart, but a chance meeting lands them in sight of each other again. Can the same that split them apart, be what brings them back together? Callum not only loved Amelia, but her little brother, Carson, too! Giving up his dream of professional football was an easy decision when it meant being there for Amelia and Carson. Amelia is so me! Mothering a sibling at a young age, but still having drive and ambition! Having such responsibilities and pride can also make it hard to maintain a relationship. Amelia and Callum are barely given a second chance when the unbelievable/unforeseen happens. Put yourself in the shoes of Amelia, Callum and Carson and hang on for a heart wrenching ride. Too many people and circumstances are against them. Do they have what it takes to make the second chance a lasting chance? Kudos to Authors Tenley Bennet and Saylor Bliss for creative story telling with a twist to the emotions!

This is a sports romance with a lot of heart. These two love each other but she sacrifices her happiness for him to have his dream career. When they meet again, it is not easy to fix the issues between them but there is a big motivator.

I enjoyed the story. I really like second chance at love stories. It is a light-hearted story and a pretty quick read. It is well-written and it is easy to connect with the characters. I do recommend it.

Received ARC in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed the story of Cal and Amelia and their second chance at love. Though they were not apart for very long. The authors gave us a wonderful backround to their story. Cal wanting to pursue his dream of playing football but not at the expense of leaving Amie and Amie willing to sacrifice her happiness in order for Cal to achieve his. This story was so touching and heartwarming. I also loved how Amie looked after her little brother Carson when their own mother couldn't be bothered. The trouble they ran into just added to the story. It made it interesting. Cal was willing to do anything for his family. This is the third book I have read by Saylor Bliss and I have enjoyed every one of them! I look forward to more great reads from her.

This is a very quick read. Callum and Amelia are in love. When Callum gets a chance to play pro football, he is willing to give it up to stay with Amelia and help her raise her little brother. Amelia will not let that happen so she lies and tells him that she does not want to be with him and lets him think she is making out with his best friend. Callum leaves and becomes the best wide receiver in the NFL. They meet up again 6 months later and realize they still love each other. hat would have been fine if we had expanded on that. However, things started getting in their way. A lot of things kept coming up that had little to nothing to add to the story other than an unnecessary conflict. It kind of messed up the flow of the story and made things seem rushed.

I loved this book so hard I read it in like 2 hours I feel so deep in love with this mixed up family that I had to finish it. Amelia is such a strong woman who takes care of her little brother who's Mom walked out on. Callium is Amelia's boyfriend who loves her something fierce,( hot Alpha football player) He turns down getting drafted in the NFL to stay with Amelia and her little brother Carson. Amelia always putting others ahead shoves Callum away and right into the draft pick. They run in together again when Amelia is 7 months preggers with Cal's baby. This story is about everything second chances, forgiveness, love and caring about one another and helping people out when ever you can. I loved the message of stopping all the Hate and just coming together. It was an absolute pleasure to read this.

False Start is a second chance romance mixed with a little football and a lot of drama. Callum and Amelia have been together for a few years and truly love each other. However when Callum is presented with a great opportunity, Amelia decides that she has to do whatever it takes to make sure that Callum does not let this opportunity pass.

I really liked Callum and Carson!!!! Amelia, not so much. I wanted to like her because of everything she did and was willing to sacrifice for her brother Carson but all of the things that she did to Callum were just too much. Griffin was a very confusing character but there was something likable about him.

I really wanted to like this story but unfortunately there was so much happening all at once that it was confusing and unrealistic.

This is my first read by Saylor and Tenley and I for one will be reading more of their books in the future. I devoured this book in only a matter of a few hours. I could not put this book down. You will have a so many emotions playing with you during this read. Happy one minutes, then sad and crying to at 1 time or another ready to scream and yell.

Amelia and Callum are the perfect couple. But even the most perfect of couples have some bumps in the road. And bumps they do have time and time again. What happens when they get a second chance at the love that they are meant to have together forever? Will they work through it or has to much damage been done? Find out today.

Definitely a must read in my eyes.

The beginning of this book felt so familiar I was convinced I'd read the story before. Boy and girl are in a relationship and making plans for their future together. He gets scouted for the pros. She does something incredibly stupid to push him away "for his own good" in order to get him to play ball because it's his dream.

But when I kept reading, I realized that this was a new twist on what sounded like a familiar tale. I really liked Amelia as a character, other than her repeated pushing Callum away. And Callum was great as well, once he got over the shock of seeing Amelia again. The other characters in the book, from Amelia's brother to Callum's roommate were colorful and made the story even more enjoyable.

Excellent 4 star Contemporary sports romance. Amelia and Callum have been together for years. They have been there for another. Callum has a chance to play professional football. Amelia has custody of her younger brother who has survived a few bouts of cancer. Amelia chooses not to hold Cal back so she pushes him away. Amelia is working as an interior designer when she runs into Cal. Their story takes off from there. The author writes characters with realistic human desires and hardships. This is a standalone with a HEA. I received a free copy of this book via Hidden Gems solely in exchange for an honest review. I look forward to reading future books by these authors.

Amelia and Callum have loved each other since they were young children. Cal is a football star and got scouted to the NFL. Amelia will do everything in her power to get custody of her brother, and make sure Cal follows his dream. When Amelia does the only thing she knows, she breaks both of their hearts.
6 months later they run into each other by accident and he finds out she is pregnant. What a complete shock to him. Cal will do everything in his power to make sure Amelia know she is his. He will fight for her and his family.
This is a quick sports book filled with love, drugs, a return of cancer, and two stubborn people who refuse to see what's in front of them.
