It seemed like a book for me
What I thought
I really enjoyed this book . Winnie was a fun character, she's a witch on probation. That leads to a bunch of crazy situations. This book is full of laughs, a bit of romance and some aww moments. I really liked Ichabod her talking cabbage patch doll. Oh and Lola was too adorable for words. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Winnie is a witch with anger control issues. She was thrown into witch jail after blowing up her former boyfriend's business. Now she is out and on parole. The catch is, while she's on parole she has to live in Paris, Texas and teach a classroom full of budding despots. And her ex-boyfriend also lives in Paris, Texas.
Five pages in I was seriously thinking of walking away.
It was feeling like a vacuous waste of time.
I kept going and it came good.
It's fluff, but it's pretty good fluff and if you want a book that isn't going to require too much commitment this isn't a bad choice.

Fun romcom set in a small town in Texas. The h was a feisty witch with unresolved mommy issues, who finds her closure working with children, especially one child(H's orphaned niece) who is facing something similar. I liked the h, she was brave, took her knocks, was passionate and great with kids; though h had her faults, she was never boring and had a good character growth arc. Also at times I felt the H and his aunt were too hard on her.
As for the H, he was meh. Immature h (who was his girlfriend then) blew up H's place of business in a fit of temper, but still, it could have been an accident or someone else's fault - the H never made a real attempt to meet h after that or find out h's version of the truth. H just moved on and was perfectly okay with never seeing h again for the rest of his life. If they hadn't met again(bcos of H's meddling aunt, Baba Yaga) then the h would have never seen H again! Wasn't very impressed with the guy.
3.5 stars only for the awesome h!

2 stars It started out rough for me with excessively crude comments from a very immature character.(-1 star) Normally I would just say okay it's part of the story but these were just for crude shock value and added nothing to the characters or the story. It was just gross. Seriously saying "i smell old lady crouch" from an adult ? Unfortunately that wasn't the only name calling that made no sense in the book. The character in question toned it done after she learned her lesson. Well not completely she still name called and degraded people. She made a miraculous personality change suddenly in the book. "Poof" I'm not going to do that anymore, Yeah it went like that. It was predictable, a broken romance rekindled, ending in a HEA. None of the characters had any real depth, they read like cookie cutter people.I don;t care about any of these characters or this world enough to move on i the series

This was a. very cute little love story. Set in Paris, Texas (where, I might add, I have family) but none of my family are witches (I don't think?)
Anyway, our heroine is a pretty young witch who lost her temper when the guy she slept with didn't call afterwards, so she blew up his warehouse.
Lots of miscommunications. Add in a talking cabbage patch doll (creepy) an adorable little girl and lots of magic. Fun book, well written.

This is such a cute and fun new series and I can't wait to continue on with it! This book is filled with the best MAGIC & WITCHERY that I have encountered in a long time. This story is a quick and light read but is easy to get lost in. The main character Winnie is a hilarious witch who just got 0ut of "witch prison" for setting her ex's warehouse on fire. As part of her parole she has to go to Paris Texas to basically repent and is found in a tough spot when the man she is running away from (said ex, whose warehouse she burnt down) is the person she has to stay with. How cute is that???

This was my first Dakota Cassidy book to buy and read. I picked it up and waited 4 months to read it. That will never happen again. This book is a paranormal comedy that had me laughing out loud and buying the second book as soon as I finished the first one. This book takes place mainly in Paris, Texas (but rewrites the town some). But it starts off i witches jail where Winnie and Zelda her best friend have both been for 9 months for abusing their powers. They get paroled to totally different places and have to complete tasks by Halloween or they take the chance of loosing their powers forever.
What got Winnie here? Well a whole mess of things ONE of which was burning down her boyfriend Ben's warehouse because he did not call her for 3 days after they slept together. It just so happened that he ended up being the top witch's nephew too. That was not a good thing. Wouldn't ya know the first person she sees when she gets to the town she is paroled to....Paris, Texas is no one other than that now ex-boyfriend BEN.
This book is fast paced and will have you zipping and zapping from here to there. You get to meet the cutest little witch Lola and you get to deal with BIC at the school and meet all the witches and some warlocks too. AND who knew cabbage patch dolls could talk???????

Winnie and Zelda are two spoiled witches whose crime against the witch's reed have landed them in the slammer without magic and without the life they have grown accustomed to or rather zapped up for themselves. Best Friends and each others ride or die they have some how survived their sentence.
They are now up for parole and have each been given a task to prove that they are worthy of their magic. Not only must they prove their worth but they must do it with out one another!
I thought this book was hilarious and I snorted more than once! I loved watching Winnie go from a snot with a bad temper who used her magic against others with no remorse to a loving softy who sacrifices everything for the kids and other who have stolen her heart whilst being stranded in Paris Texas.

Cute story but it is supposed to be a story of redemption and it starts with a heroine who seems redeemed - all the bad stuff she did was in the past and based how she acts I have a hard time believing she used to behave that way.
But anyway, Winnie is paroled from witch jail and sent to be a teacher's assistant to work with troubled witch kids. She is also having to stay with the man who broke her heart and deal with a talking cabbage patch doll.

I've tried and tried to finish this book, but I cannot get over how completely shallow and unpleasant the protagonist is! The only thing I can think of is if Paris Hilton had obtained supernatural powers. Disappointing.

This book was just so mediocre I could barely bring myself to finish it. There was no depth, nothing compelling about any of the characters. If it hadn't been so short I wouldn't have bothered to read to the end and if you're feeling the same, it's ok, just give up. Predictable, boring ending.

I thought this was a really fun and light story about witches and demons. I wasn't crazy about the narrator but I eventually got over it. I will read the next book... but the book was great. I definitely recommend for a light and funny witch book :)

Just out of jail on parole after serving time for blowing up her then boyfriends warehouse, Winnie doesn't have much going for her---separated from her BFF (who was also in the clink), sent to the almost hotter-than-hell Paris TX, and given a job as a TA with 5 and 6 year olds, a craptastic pink junker of a car, and a talking Cabbage Patch doll AND not allowed to use her magick for personal gains, she doesn't think it could get much worse. Until she find out that her residence is a half-way house run by none-other than her ex-boyfriend. And she has to wear the 80's clothes give to her by the head of the Coven. Toss in an angry witch bent on taking over and some steamy romance, this one great read! As usual Dakota Cassidy delivers the humor, snark, suspense, and romance that we-her fans- have all come to know and love!

This book is a great read. Aside from Robyn Peterman, Dakota Cassidy has now become my favorite author when it comes to lighthearted paranormal romance.
So Witched at Birth is about Winnie Foster, a witch who had been jailed for nine months when she blew up her ex-boyfriend Ben's office building.
Baba Yaga, her ex-boyfriend's aunt and jailor, granted her and her best friend Zelda parole in exchange of separate community services.
Winnie ended up in Paris, Texas where - surprise, surprise! - Ben is currently residing too.
I love how this book is peppered with hilarious characters. From fashion-challenged Baba Yaga to creepy cabbage patch doll Icabod - there's never a dull moment in the story.
My favorite aspect though is Winnie's personal journey. From a narcissistic, self-serving witch, she turned into a caring, selfless person who wanted to make up for her past transgressions. Her character development was truly awesome.
For me, that - along with a smooth plot - is what makes a novel well-written. And Witched at Birth definitely is!

**This review is based on the audio version, therefore reviewed based on both story and narration**
I never had any doubt when I picked this one up about how fully entertained I would be by what comes out of Dakota Cassidy's brain. I was NOT disappointed. There was plenty of humor mixed into a wonderfully entertaining story. Each and every character had their own individuality, and in just about every case, something about each character gives you a little giggle.
Of course there's Winnie, the main character, who we find in the beginning has a bit more of a problem with her anger than most of us do when we're blown off by someone we thought was a good guy. Most of us would LIKE to blow things up...she actually did. This (and several other previous bad choices) sends her to a sort of witch jail -- especially when much of what she blows up are the prized 80's possessions of THE lead witch. But what she quickly comes to find out is that jail isn't even half as life changing as her assigned rehab once she's out of jail. I loved her attitude through it all -- real, with the perfect mix of snarky. I think we could be good friends!
The narrator did a great job with the majority of the voices, and with clearly telling the story. I had a tiny bit of an issue with getting a good feeling of the lead male's character (I don't want to give too much away), because I felt like the narration didn't fit his true emotion as well, but it wasn't terribly distracting. The other general narration (when just narrating, not doing the other voices) similarly seemed a bit...too sharp, I guess is the best way I know how to put it, almost sounding a little sarcastic when not needed. However, every other voice done, including each child, was very well done. Therefore, as a whole, I certainly wouldn't mind listening to this narrator again.
This was I highly entertaining story, and I can't wait to see what comes next with these witches!

Really liked this! I loved the characters! I loved the Winnie who we witness in such a short time grow and become a better person. I loved Lola who was so cute and I felt so bad for her, and I loved Ben who loved Winnie despite thinking she's crazy and was such a great uncle to Lola and the type of guy that gave up everything just to take care of his niece! He really was a sweetheart! I loved how they became a family and how Winnie learned to love others! This story was funny at times, but overall it was a sweet story about finding one's true self, growing up, letting others in and finally realizing your mistakes. I just loved it to pieces, and I'm still smiling thinking about how sweet it was! I also loved how the ending surprised me. I hate it when characters are stupid for not realizing the obvious, but this time what I thought was obvious really wasn't. I love to be surprised and hate when it's too predictable (which I thought it was) but I'm so happy I was wrong.
- I admit I was really confused by the connection with this and Switching Hour, and it bothered me. I just read Switching hour and things weren't right. It had the same format, but the beginning was off and other things didn't quite fit. That is until I just looked up Twelve Shades of Midnight which both stories were originally from and noticed that Robyn Peterman changed the beginning of Switching Hour when the book was re-released and that's the version I read. I know I nitpick too much, but if others are wondering about the same thing, then that's what's changed. In the anthology they are connected, but Robyn Peterman changed that when Switching Hour was released as it's own series, and Winnie is not a part of that series.

I had the absolute pleasure of reading this book as the first I've read from the author. The book is about a witch, Winnifred that has been incarcerated due to misuse of magic. She has to complete a task that will push and test her to her limits. All the while trying not to use magic selflessly. Meanwhile she's stuck around a steamy jerk of an ex in a town hot as the sun. Also she has to put up with a back talking cabbage patch. The story unfolds and Winnifred grows beautifully she starts reaching her potential while learning about herself.
Witty right out of the gate! The banter between characters flows smoothly and comically. Dakota Cassidy does an excellent job painting the picture of the world she created. The picture pulls you in and engulfs you into this book. She flawlessly links our world and the fictional book world. Her characters jump out and drag you in with their big personalities. Dakota Cassidy's ability to take real life problems and mesh them with this other relm realistically is fantastic. The story is heartwarming, wrapping you up in this crazy love story. Dakota Cassidy manages to bring mystery, action, adventure, comedy and love all to the table in this book. I hated putting the book down for everyday life! The author is a national best seller and if you read this book you will definitely know why. I am so ready to read more from her. I encourage you to read this book as well. So get the book and in the words of Dakota Cassidy " hold on to your Kotex pads. It’s going to be a bumpy ride!"

Dakota Cassidy's ability to take real life problems and mesh them with this other relm realistically is fantastic. The story is heartwarming, wrapping you up in this crazy love story. Dakota Cassidy manages to bring mystery, action, adventure, comedy and love all to the table in this book. I hated putting the book down for everyday life! The author is a national best seller and if you read this book you will definitely know why. I am so ready to read more from her. I encourage you to read this book as well. So get the book and in the words of Dakota Cassidy " hold on to your Kotex pads. It’s going to be a bumpy ride!"

Dakota Cassidy has re-released this gut-bustingly fun paranormal rom-com and I'm so happy she did. As a huge fan of Dakota's work, I have to say that I'm partial to her voice in books like this. When she dons her paranormal tiara, I'm never disappointed. Her books are so easy to lose myself in; like a movie in my mind, she creates worlds that I never want to leave. Her mixture of reality and fiction gives each story a life of its own.
Set in Paris, Texas, this book spins many of my favorite things into one sparkly web of entertainment; romance, magic, Texas, sexiness, snark, humor, endearing characters, witches. You can't go wrong with this one! Winnie Foster is a gratifyingly lovable character. Her antics and snark remind me of Nina (with less violence **snicker**) from her Accidentals series. Add in the fact that Winnie is a witch with serious balls--in my eyes that makes her perfect.
Though there are many layers to this story, the plot flows freely. I didn't notice any lagging or anything that detracts from the main storyline. It's a great combination of snark, magic and sexy. Witched At Birth is a hot page-turner that I finished in one sitting. I can't wait for more books with this cast of characters.

I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. So to me, that means reviewing both the book and the audio performance. Let's take them in order...
The book was a blast! I was laughing by the end of the first chapter and continued to do so throughout the book. But it wasn't all just snark-tastic responses to some truly embarrassing situations. As I got to know Winnie, I really started caring about her. The personal growth she went through was both satisfying and uplifting. She truly earned her happily ever after. The book is a rom-com with a spark of magic and a lot of heart - a masterful combination!
Hollie Jackson is the voice that brought the story to life. And what a job she did of it! Each character had their own unique sound, from the wise-cracking Ichabod to sweet Lola, from crusty B.I.C. to a great guy dealing with loss, our hero Ben. And Winnie - Ms. Jackson nailed the subtle changes in Winnie from brash and selfish to vunerable and caring.
I'm already listening to the second book in this series and will be adding the rest of Dakota Cassidy's books to my To-Be-Read list!

I think Dakota Cassidy has the beginnings of a new hit paranormal series set in Paris, Texas! Witched at Birth is about Winnie, a witch who has only used her powers for selfish reasons, and has anger control issues. She was incarcerated for blowing up a warehouse in a fit of rage. After she is put on parole, she is sent to Paris, Texas to be a teacher's aide to out of control young witches. She has one month, until Halloween, to show some improvement in her character, otherwise she will be sent back to witch prison. It doesn't help that Ben, the warlock who wronged her, is in the same town, and is uncle to one of the students at the school she is working.
I just loved this book! In the beginning, I wasn't sure if I even liked Winnie. She grew on me, and when she starts interacting with the kids, and makes a connection with little Lola, who is acting out in a way that Winnie recognizes, that's when I started really caring what was going to happen with the characters! Well written with humor and heart!

'Witched at Birth' was an awesome start to an amazing series, 'A Paris, Texas Romance'. The storyline drew me in from the beginning and didn't let go. Full of humor, I'm talking laugh out loud funny, a few unfortunate mishaps, some hot and steamy scenes, romance and great characters. Each character brought something to the story. From Winnie to Ben to Lola to Icabod etc., each were well developed and brought the story together. Winnie was hilarious. My favorite line Winnie in regards to herself- 'She blew $hit up, but she didn't run from it'. I loved her attitude. Baba Yaga was a mess. Although, I admit to loving the 80's just as much as her, she really took it to another level. Icabod was hilarious, especially for being a half decapitated Cabbage Patch Doll. Bic is another awesome character. I guess I could have just stated that I loved every character and left it at that, but I like to ramble at times. Overall, this book is a must add to your tbr list. Definitely recommended. I can't wait to read more.

I liked this book so much I bought it twice. You must have an imagination to read this book and enjoy the wacky. I enjoyed it because it is a different type of romance. A romance that reaches the heart of the reader. How could someone screw up so bad that they end up in magical jail and then on parole in a place like Paris TX. Then she has to stay with her once lover as part of her parole, but she sort of did something to blow up his business in the wrong sense of the word and make a lot of people very unhappy. But now she has to work with magical kids with bad attitudes or those that have issues which cause them to strike out. Oh the poor web we weave. See how this story ends. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Dakota Cassidy has a way to make you laugh when her books go wacky. Enjoy

Ms. Cassidy does a really good job in the way her characters interact. Loved Zelda and Winnie back in forth antics. Makes me feel like I'm right there in the middle of it. What I really liked about this story is Winnie started out as a self centered and selfish character who only cared for material things. At the end of the book she ended up realizing that her relationships with people are more important . Dakota Cassidy does not disappoint.

Take one angry, bad girl, lashing out at the world witch - released on parole to finish her sentence.
Add a good helping of humor, a sexy ex, an orphaned girl and a muddle of things going wrong. Stir with wonderful dialogue, great character building and then dump it all in Paris, Texas to bake for a month.
The result is Dakota Cassidy's Witched at Birth! A five star read, or in my case - listen!

I received this book for free in return for an honest review. I enjoyed this book. It was a light-hearted and refreshing story about a "magical parolee" that had some very tough (and funny) lessons to learn. The characters were very likable and you found yourself wanting them to succeed. I would recommend this to anyone age 18 or above that enjoys comedy.

This was the silliest book I've ever read. Witch jail? Really? Seriously? It had to be the dumbest book I've ever read. If I could give it less than one star I would. It wasn't even funny. It was juvenile and very badly written. The plot didn't even make sense.

This book was mostly cute and humorous. It lost a star because half way through the book it became soft porn. This happened a couple of times. I skipped those parts. I already know how sex goes. I didn't need it described to me in gritty detail.
The story: Winnie is on parole for using her magic in selfish ways... like blowing up the building that belonged to her recent boyfriend that she rolled in the hay after 3 months of dating and then he never called her again. This was the one guy she had always dreamed of, and he jilted her! Now Winnie has been banished to Paris, Texas to see if she can live amongst people and not blow something up or set something on fire because if she does, she will lose her magical powers forever.
Any problems? Winnie uses vulgar language freely including the F-Word. Non-marital sex is on the agenda, but there is a "happily ever after" ending... close enough.
I had read a previous novel of the author's, "The Accidental Werewolf". Although "Witched at Birth" has less sex in it, it is not my cup of tea. I am abandoning this author.
