NOTHING BUT RUBBISH!!

I didn't know this author could write another book of pure Rubbish! "My Fair" Lily was bad enough, but The Duke I'm Going to Marry is worst. This is the story of Dillie, Lily's twin sister from bk 1 and Ian Markham the Duke of Edgeware. Ian and Dillie have long repetitive conversations in the story. Which are just random. They loved each other but they can't be together becasue they don't trust there love for each other. There many made up misunderstanding in the story that lead no were. The last misunderstanding toward the of the book made me fill like throwing my kindle. Ian and Dillie are stuck at an Inn together. I think Ian took her virginity but I am not sure she was a virgin becasue of the way sex scene was written. It read like a couple used to having sex would be written. I am not sure because Dillie didn't seem to have any of the usual discomforts for a virgin. She seem to know a little too much about the sex act. But she does have 4 married sisters. A accident is why they are laid up at the Inn and Dillie is across from her in Ian's room in her carriage drivers room. He was hurt in the accident. Ian left the doors open to both rooms but in comes this chamber maid with her clothes a little undone and Ian sends her packing but Dillie sees his hands on the maid shoulder as he is sending her away. Oh My!! they must have had 5 seconds of sex with both doors open and Ian and the maid standing at the opened door. So Ian is now a Rouge and a Wastrel and she does not understand why she didn't see it before OMG!! how dumb are you Dillie. Ian didn't do anything. The maid accosted him. I just have to ask why write a book if you don;t have a story to tell? I know there are a lot of 5 and 4 star reviews for this book. But I guess if I wrote a book I could get lots of people I know to give me a great review Or Maybe pay them. I don't know but this is a badly written non story!! I Cannot Recommend The Duke I'm Going to Marry Sorry!! Don't wast your time or money!!

Another relatively solid read from this author, which makes me happy. A new romance author to track :)

The plot tends to trend towards the melodramtic, which I'm not a huge fan of, but it's bearable since I liked Dillie so much.

That being said, there are two things I wish hadn't happened, that I honestly think detracted from the character development. There be fairly explicit spoilers ahead :P

1. After mostly settling the topic of marriage, Dillie leaves the inn room for serveral minutes only to return to find a maid with her dress laces undone and Ian's arms around her. (The maid is looking for a tumble, Ian's resisting). I don't entirely blame Dillie for her knee jerk reaction and to her credit, after the argument, she thinks about it rationally and is going to apologize to him.

Then she overhears a conversation with the maid and her employer, who is castigating her for trying to create mischief with Ian's fiancee (Dillie). Now Dillie has confirmation that Ian wasn't trifling with the maid.

Yes, she was going downstairs to apologize whih meant she believed him. As readers, we already knew the truth. I would have preferred Dillie soldier on with her faith in Ian restored because she knew better, not because she's had it backed up by eavesdropping.

It just robs a bit of the emotional connection and leap Dillie had to make to get there.

2. At the end of the book, Ian learns that he was not responsible for the death of his elder brother. When he was four and the brother six, they both fell through the ice. The brother did and his family has never forgiven him. Ian believed his brother came to fetch him from the ice and has always had himself responsible. Tragic, but understandable.

Then at the end the book, after he's struggled to forgive himself and move on, he learns that James went out on the ice to fetch his mother's dog and Ian followed him.

By absolving Ian of the guilt (that really exists in his head) and putting the blame elsewhere, it negates the character growth the author has spent more than a hundred pages developing. It bothered me.

Anyway, that might just be me :P

So here is the final book in this series, as it is the love story of the youngest of the Farthingale sisters.
I do think even if the others were more funny even with their lot of betrayals and actions, I was wondering since I read Rose’s story about Ian Markham, the cynical Duke of Edgeware. He is finally the last to fall.
He was the one to warn Gabriel about the Chipping Way Curse, the deathtrap for bachelors he thinks is the area where the Farthingale live.
He is the last one left, the only one unmarried, and claiming loud and clear he will never marry. He displays a facade of a cold heartless rake, while in the inside he suffers from his need of love but he is unable to let people break in the walls he erected around his heart. Dillie’s interest in him is like agony to him as he is unable to answer nor accept it. My heart arched for him and the childhood he suffered in the hands of his horrible family, inside he was still a little boy so hopeful to win his mother’s love even after her horrible rejection.
While the other stories were set in few days, here the storyline stretches out on many months with a first event two years before.
Dillie feels out of place since her twin got married, she tries to follow the right path and find like any debutante a good husband but she can’t shake out her feeling for the rake Duke who kissed her while mistaking her for an other woman. She spent herself a lot of time denying her feelings, ready to offer her friendship but afraid of more because of Ian dissolute’s ways. Even when she will accept the true nature of her sentiments for him, she will need a lot more to trust him.
This is the story of the woman who will prove a man in hiding he is lovable while he will learn to trust by opening his heart and sharing his secrets.
A very lovely tale about second chance when even Hope was lost.

If you want a genuine Regency read, then this book, series and maybe the author isn't for you. However, that said, I really enjoyed the story itself.

Some of the 'Problems' I see with this NOT being a good example of a Regency novel:
. They have Prinny (the Prince Regent) issuing warrants for people's arrest, etc. That just doesn't happen.
. The dialogue and phrases used are very modern rather than Regency period.
. The classes mix too freely, too easily and speak to each other with much too much familiarity.
. The author just needs to do more research and actually learn the social restrictions, period appropriate language, social hierarchy, proper forms of address, etc. If she doesn't care to do the research, etc. perhaps she should just choose a different time period.

I really enjoyed the story itself and absolutely love the Farthingale family. This series covers the five sisters. The Farthingales are a huge, boisterous and loving family and you'll really enjoy all of them. Each of the five sisters is very different - but also very much the same in their loving hearts and strong, determined personalities.

Our hero, Ian, was also very likable. I had enjoyed him from the first book in the series and just knew that he and Dilly would be a couple. He's a troubled and tortured soul with a good heart and a gosh-awful family.

I'm not sure why the author chose to write the books in a mixed-up order. In the first two books, you find out what has already happened with the other three sisters. You learn who they have married, that they got their HEA, etc. before you ever get to their book. Had I realized this, I would have read them in the order that events happened to them rather than the order the books are released. I have purchased the entire series but may not read the last three in this series just simply because I know who each marries and some of the story behind each of them.

3 stars - Spoilers!!

I didn't care for this book. The writing was OK - but the author used a word that I had never read and when I looked up the definition - I had a Princess Bride moment - "This word, I do not think it means what you think it means". She used the word Clunch over and over - based on the usage I assume she meant it as an insult akin to jerk or idiot. However - the word had no definition available on my kindle dictionary. Webster and Wiki searches determined that clunch is a limestone type stone used in building and you don't even want to know what the urban dictionary came up with for this word. After finding this information - I just became annoyed every time I read it after that - which was quite a lot.

This combined with Ian kissing Dillie and then going off to his mistress at the beginning of the book, just turned me off. I did solider on and finish the book - I was hoping that I would read that he didn't sleep with his mistress - but that didn't happen.

I also didn't care for the ending - she comes to him? Ah - NO!

I didn't love the first book - but I liked it better than this book. I did feel bad for Ian - his family is probably the most awful family I have ever read and personally I think he let them off easy.

I wouldn't tell someone not to read this book - I just didn't care for it - that doesn't make it bad - it's just not for me. I haven't decided if I am going to read the next book. But I haven't given up on this author - she does have potential...

This is the story of Daffodil Farthingale and Ian Markham, the Duke of Edgeware. Daffodil is a wonderfully entertaining and strong heroine, and Ian is a strong and very complex man. They have known each other for a very long time, secretly drawn to each other. Ian has secrets that no one knows about that haunts him. Daffodil is looking for love. They both come from very different childhood experiences. Can either of them find love?

There is something about the way this author tells a story that absolutely delights me and keeps me coming back for more. The very first page of this book had me laughing out loud, and from that moment on I was hooked.

This story is full of humor, emotion, mystery and romance as well as having a few villains. I had a very hard time putting this book down. That's how good it is. This is a very well written and highly enjoyable story from a very talented author. I highly recommend it.

I liked the book, but....

I would have given this book 4 stars, except for some misspelled words, a couple of sentences that didn't make sense, yet the biggest problem I had was the Duke. He the woman he's liked for two years then he goes to his mistress. He tries to stay away from her but he can't, this back and forth throughout the book is annoying. It is the first book I have read by this author and I am not sure if I will read another one. If someone I knew liked heroes who were swishy washy, I would recommend this book otherwise they would not be very interested in this book.

The Duke I'm Going to Marry is a five star read for sure! After reading book one in the Farthingale Series I was curious how book two would compare. I adored My Fair Lily and The Duke I’m Going to Marry was the perfect follow-up. Meara Platt has a gift for weaving tales and bringing stories to life. I was already fond of Dillie from book one but grew to love her in book two. I found myself instantly invested in her and Duke of Edgeware’s story. It was witty, entertaining, and heartwarming. I highly recommend this whole series!

The Duke I'm Going to Marry is an entertaining historical Regency romance by Meara Platt. It is the 2nd book in the Farthingale series and revolves around Daffodil “Dillie” Farthingale, the “other” twin introduced in the 1st book in the series. Although this story has some suspense in it, with someone attempting to kill our hero on more than one occasion; it is not as adventurous as My Fair Lily, wherein the couple experience a few shootings, explosions, and an abduction. Instead, this story focuses on the romance.

The story begins when Dillie rescues the notorious Ian Markham, the Duke of Edgeware, outside the Farthingale townhouse by firing an elephant gun at his assailants. Dillie is level-headed and resourceful and immediately takes charge; you could call her a “bossy set of goods.” She brings Ian inside her home so her uncle who is a doctor can save his life. After Ian spends one week recovering in the Farthingale home, with Lily playing nursemaid to him, scandal breaks ruining Dillie’s reputation. When Ian does the honorable thing and proposes marriage to Dillie, she turns him down flat.

Although extremely attracted to Ian both physically and mentally, Dillie wants a man who will love her and be faithful to her in their marriage, which she doesn’t believe Ian can do. After turning down the proposal, Dillie escapes to the country, little knowing that the Ian left town as well. When a late winter storm destroys Dillie’s carriage, she soon finds herself in the same charming inn as Ian. It is here that Dillie persuades Ian to forgive himself for a tragedy that happened when he was a little boy. She also convinces him that he is worthy of and deserves a happily ever-after.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the audiobook version of this story narrated by Hollis McCarthy. She exhibits the right amount of worry, exasperation, and yearning in all the right places. I can’t wait to start listening to the next Farthingale sister’s book!

I read it and yes he got excited by the heroine whom he wanted for two years and went to his mistress and they were separated for three months and I really don't like that. No they weren't together Yet, but he had feelings for her, but still had a mistress and several married ladies and widows. I could have done without knowing that. I didn't believe his love in the first place. So that ruined the book for me. I kept waiting for him to think I never went to her but that never happened and it was disheartening. I read the first book and absolutely loved it. Especially Jasper the dog, but this book lost me in the first two chapters. Its a personal pet peeve of mine so just a personal opinion alert. No its not cheating its just not romantic. The rest of the book is about being trailed about Assassin's and he's compromised the heroine when she nursed him at the beginning of the book so he has to marry her, and they fall in love. He never will be faithful. The first time he kissed her, he was supposed to be meeting another woman, not his mistress but someone else entirely. Great first 'cute' meet. Not. Just not sure if I will read another. I was so disappointed. And then at the rnd, there is a trailer for another book and Ian is taking the hero of that book to meet his mistress and her friends. I think its an earlier story but give me a brake. And that mistress had another name. It was Chantal in this book but Veronique in the trailer. I hate rakes. I am sorry I let this bother me. But I loved Dillie from the last book and she deserved better. Rant over.

I’ve been waiting for Ian. I truly have, because, as you’ve guessed by reading my other reviews I read EVERY book backwards.

Ian was in the first two, hilariously staying far far away from the street that shall not be named because he’s convinced he’s going to be next. In his story we have another anti Hero, someone who avoids love and commitment at all costs–and someone who eagerly seeks out other women after being with Dillie.

He’s been absolutely obsessed with her and it shows, I actually loved how realistic his feelings were, he pushed away what he wanted most out of an inability to feel like he deserved tin the first place.

Men.

I truly appreciated that Dillie was different from her other sisters. She’s extremely…whats the correct word…caring? Almost like she takes in Ian because she sees he’s truly lost.

After spending a week in her bed–hoping the scandal doesn’t come out–it clearly does and naturally sets about ruining her reputation. Tale as old as time, only with a twist, we still don’t know who tried to kill Ian or why they would want to.

An old flame perhaps?

An enemy? He has several…

I don’t want to give the book away, but I will say this, it was my favorite of the four and I think it’s because I really wanted happiness for our Duke.

Love me a Duke

Meara Platt has mastered this series! These Farthingale sisters have been a great joy to read!! Meara writes each character with such expression you feel like you really know each person! They are delightful, funny and you feel each emotion as if it's first-hand.
This is the youngest Farthingale sister Dilly's story. She doesn't feel she is anything special since nothing happened her first season! While closing up the house with her Uncle George at the end of the season; Dilly witnesses some thugs attacking The Duke of Edgeware Ian Markham! She scares the thugs away but Ian is seriously hurt! Her Uncle patches him up but he is too weak to move so he spends the week in Diily's bed. Good thing the season is over for oh what a scandal!
Now the new season has started and Dilly tries to enjoy it. Who can when the most exciting things that keep happening are with the duke! She doesn't want to marry him because he is such a rake and he doesn't want to get married period because his family hates him and wants him dead! He love Dilly but wants to protect her from his dreaded family! Dilly has to fight her way through his turmoil to reach him!! Can she give him everything he desires which is a living home and family!

After reading the hilarious Book 1, My Fair Lily, I couldn't wait to read about Lily's twin sister Daffodil "Dillie" & her hero, Ian.

I loved Dillie, she rescued Ian Markham, the Duke of Edgeware, from ruffians right outside the Farthingale townhouse. She fired a elephant gun at them & her Uncle who is a doctor helped to get Ian in the house & into Dillie's bedroom - since hers was the only room not closed up. He needed medical help to treat his wounds but when her family found out that she had rescued the notorious Duke of Edgeware & if the Chippingdale Curse holds true she would marry him. This cannot be true, she wants love & not a rakhell with dark secrets & that has vowed never to love or marry.
But after nursing him back to health, she finds herself falling for Ian & unknown to her he is falling in love with her also. The adventures, miscommunications, humor are only part of the entertainment until they both realize how the other person feels.

This is such a great series & I recommend it to all historical romance readers - no I am off to read Book 3 which is sister Daisy & her hero Gabriel Dayne's story!

Story is steamy in places. I quite enjoyed this. I liked Dillie’s antics, and how we learn why Ian is always beating himself up. Yes, some bits are a bit outlandish, ie the opening and the elephant gun, and I couldn’t quite get my head around why his mother was so awful and his cousins were plotting to murder him. Yes I know obviously one wanted to inherit, but we never really met the cousins or quite understood why, other than greed I suppose. Also if Dillie is so attractive I am surprised she did not have a lot more suitors. They did seem a bit thin on the ground. Then we see her go off with Ealing into a dark garden, yet much later on her mother is telling her how proud they are of her because even her twin looked to her to explain what happened in life. She was well brought up and educated and is intelligent I am sure she would not set off with Ealing. And for a last inconsistency the night the pub the weather is atrocious hardly anyone can travel, yet the 4 attackers seem to arrive with no issue.
Now writing the above almost makes me reduce to 3 stars, but there is something about it that I like and enjoyed so it’s 4 stars.

The Dukes Chance at Happiness

I absolutely loved Dillie and Ian’s story. Dillie is the last sister unwed and Ian the Duke of Edgeware swore never to marry. Ian continually sought Dillie out and she liked him. After the family retired to the country for the Holiday, Dillie and her Uncle stayed in town for a few more days. When one night Dillie saw Ian being attacked she retrieved the elephant gun and shot at the villains. When she got to Ian she saw he was badly injured. With the help of her uncle she was able to bring him back from near death. She cared for him for days in her own bed. Ian couldn’t believe when he woke up he was in Dillies bed. As he recovers, they grow closer.
The holiday season passes and when Dillie and Ian see each other again nearly 5 months have passed and shes possibly being courted by someone else.
The sparks between then cannot be ignored. Ian saves Dillie from Charles and then the scandal breaks out that Ian spent time in Dillies bed last November.
Ian agrees to marry her but she’s reluctant.
A wonderfully written story with a beautiful ending.

This charming Regency novel is about the other Farthingale twin, Daffodil (aka Dillie) and the Duke of Edgeware, Ian.
Ian is a confirmed rakehell bachelor with no intentions of ever marrying. He is all alone as he is estranged from his family due to their hatred of him. But he is constantly drawn to Dillie after kissing her and mistaking her for someone else. He had a lot of torment from his childhood that he has never recovered from and this is preventing him from moving on with his life.
Dillie is the youngest Farthingale sibling and the last left to marry. She is holding out for a love match but she is constantly thrown across Ian's path. They are friends but she is looking for more. She's a delightful character and a perfect match for Ian.
This book was endearing and the characters were very likeable and believable. I'm not sure the book is written completely accurately historically but it is a fun read with angst and a happy ever after ending.
I enjoyed this book far more than the first in this series about Dillie's twin sister, Lily. I rate this book 4.5* and the next in this series is about Daisy, the eldest sister.

Delightful!

I absolutely loved The Duke I’m Going to Marry, Book 2 in the Farthingale series, by Meara Platt. This is the story of Daffodil, “Dillie” Farthingale and Ian Markham, the Duke of Edgeware, a notorious rake and bachelor that was never going to marry. Once again, the author draws you in from the first page, when Dillie saves Ian’s life, and cares for him in her bedroom while he recovers, creating a possibly scandal, if word were to get out. But who would want Ian dead? Who would want to ruin Dillie? The story is delightful, but with an element of emotion so deep that it touches your heart. I wept as the story unfolded, and you see the love blossom between Ian and Dillie. Platt’s secondary characters again play a large part in the story and are written so well. I can’t wait to read about the other Farthingale sisters and find out how they met and married their husbands!

Love heals all wounds

Dilly's story, the last of the Farthingale series is my favorite. Ian, the Duke of Markham, doesn't stand a chance against Dilly's courage and steadfast love. Once again one of the Farthingale sees deep into the soul of the man and sees the heart, not the image. A moving love story with laughter, tears and a bit of suspense. A nice, enjoyable read. These stories are in the fashion of The Bridgerton's series by Julia Quinn and the Bedwyn series by Mary Ba!ugh both series are about families who love each other and their journeys to find love. All of these series capture your hearts and become friends you want to read about again and again. I only regret that I have finished this series....but Meara Platt has written other stories so l will to read them next. Try all 5 Farthingale books, I don't think you will be disappointed.

This was such a charming and entertaining book!

I enjoyed reading it thoroughly. It was full of witty humor and swoon-worthy romance.

Dillie Farthingale is a delight! I loved her character and her humor, she is unlike any prim and proper heroines of regency romance novels. She’s such an icon.

Ian, Duke of Edgeware, is a perfect fit for someone as lovely and peculiar as Dillie. I loved their chemistry and their interactions were nothing short of heart-fluttering.

I must say every man that stumbles on the Chipping Way bachelor curse must count himself lucky. The Farthingale are a charming ton.

Don’t expect a very serious plot but if you’re looking for a light and enjoyable regency romance novel, this is the one! And I have to say I enjoyed it far more than the first book although I liked Dillie’s intelligent twin Lily.

I loved this book. When the beginning of the book started with the lead character taking an elephant gun to shoot assailants beating up a man, my interest was engaged. Dillie Farthingale rescued Ian Markham, Duke of Edgeware, from certain death. The whole book was a pure delight to read. The characters are so engaging. I loved the internal thoughts of Dillie, such as “Cause of death was determined to be excessive rapture.” But then, Ian’s were just as delightful, “Farthingales did not keep secrets. Farthingales had diarrhea of the mouth.” There were loads of laugh out loud moments which I tried to control. Ian was a man who held lots of secrets. He was raised in a cold and loveless family. Dillie was the one who helped him move beyond his upbringing and bring about their HEA. She made him laugh and never bored him. What a fun read. I sincerely recommend this book.

The Duke I'm Going to Marry (The Far thing ale Series Book 2) Meats Platt

The Farthingales are a boisterous happy family with 5 beautiful daughters, living on Chipping Way in Mayfair, one of the finest in London. One of their neighbors in Mayfair is the elegable bachelor Ian Markam the Duke of Edgemare was trying to fight off two assassins. Daffodil, Dillie to her family, sees what is happening, grabs her fathers elephant gun and shoots at the bad men attacking Ian. Calling for her uncle George, a physician, to help Ian who is badly hurt. From this tragic scene to falling in love, coming out in society, to running away makes for a lovely story. The story of a brooding Duke and sunshine Dillie is a story in it's self. A wonderful story everyone will enjoy. The characters are all delightful and the story well told.

Good triumphs over evil

4 stars because so good. It started a little slow for me, but soon picked up to be very interesting. It had a very interesting plot of the relationship between Ian and Dillie, starting from grim to HEA ending. I didn’t fall in love with Ian, from first, but very much so later. Dillie was so sweet and innocent but at same time stubborn, with a kick butt personality. She was so kind and loyal, but same time not very trusting of Ian. It had intrigue, with several big surprises, and romance with a little spice. It had some very bad villains, who were dealt with exactly what they deserved. I thoroughly enjoyed and definitely recommend as I do all her books.

Delightful, witty & charming romance!

Dillie is positively delightful: her innocence and nervous blunders are truly charming, coupled with her wit and fierce faith in love and people makes her story highly enjoyable. Ian's bravado & rakish charm hide a desperate need to be loved and a caring heart that can't help but crave Dillie's. Together they sparkle, making you yearn for the next funny, heart warmingly touching or passionate moment between them. The addition of a sinister presence, heart breaking mysteries relating to Ian's past, a touch of scandal and a host of loveable, irritating, witty and repellent sub characters make this engaging story very hard to put down. Another well crafted winner by Platt. Loved it!

The Duke I’m Going To Marry is book two in The Farthingale Series by Meara Platt. I wish I could give this book ten stars. If you love Julia Quinn and The Bridgerton series, you will adore Meara Platt’s The Farthingale books. I haven’t laughed this hard in a very long time. So much humor and steamy romance with some tear-jerking moments all rolled into one delicious Regency book. I couldn’t put it down and found myself reading far into the night. Platt creates wonderful characters who are so touchable they leap off the page. I adored the hero Ian Markham, The Duke of Edgeware. He is so edgy and such a rogue, yet when he meets Daffodil or Dillie Farthingale his heart is awakened to longings for love and family. I can’t wait to read the entire series!

Ian & Dillie

Loved this book 📕. It was steamy 🔥 (low) and romantic a little angst in childhood trauma and also in two murder attempts The characters were likable especially the h. She was warm loving kind and never doubted the H was a good guy. The H was a curmudgeon to everyone except the h. He had a dark past with his so called family but after he finds h he begins to feel loved. It actually takes most of the book 📚 for him to get at that point and feel he was worthy of love. After some other obstacles like a carriage accident they finally marry and have their HEA with a ready made family in the H’s little niece. This is the 2nd in the series and liked it as much as the 1st. I would recommend.

Terrifically entertaining with a great cast of characters.

I enjoyed this romantic and adventurous tale very much. I like Meara Platt's style and creative imagination. Dilly and Ian are the perfect couple and kept me entertained as they fight their feelings for each other. Whether it be elephant guns or a shovel, Dilly will protect him with everything she's got and Ian does the same when Dilly's reputation is impugned and her place in society threatened. Can they find their way to lasting love and devotion, read and see.
