The Rebel's Return
Phoebe’s hometown of Philadelphia is buzzing with news of the newly declared independence when she encounters a childhood friend, now an officer in Washington’s army. She is delighted whenever Nicholas’s duties bring him back through town, but his behavior seems suspicious. Furthermore, she wonders if he is interested in her sister Alice or herself --or if he is simply amusing himself with both of them. The summer and fall of 1776 seem to spell doom for the cause of the Revolution and also for Phoebe’s own prospects of happiness. As she uncovers Nicholas’s secrets she learns more about herself, her loyalties, and her own struggle for independence.

Okay... Not exactly sure what to say about this book. It is a classic good girl falls for bad boy, with the twist that good girl sticks (sort-of) to her convictions. The characters fell flat for me, which made the book less enjoyable.
While Phoebe was supposed to be a strong Christian, she seemed to base almost no decisions based on her faith. The only one I noticed was the decision not to let Nicholas take advantage of her.
There were several minor historical errors, but they were pretty minor and didn't detract much from the story.
This was an okay story, but nothing stunning.

Sweet historical clean romance
I enjoyed the story about an 18 yr old girl, who could never be as good as her older sister in her mother's eyes, and an officer in the Army during the American Revolutionary War. The history was rich and showed the conflicts and stresses of this time.

The story begins with the reader meeting Phoebe as she defies her mother's wishes to hurry home to help with the household chores; Phoebe stops in the town's square to hear the reading of the Declaration of Independence, the colonists are requesting their independence/freedom from England.
I enjoyed this story through the eyes of Phoebe. Seeing the hard times her family dealt with as they awaited word on family and friends that were fighting in the conflict for freedom amid all the opinions for and against the conflict/war. The history in this book was rich with conflict, friendship, reconciliation, and romance!

This book is a wonderful story set during the American Revolution. The main character Phoebe is a delightful character and I enjoyed following her journey from being the rebellious one in the family to finding God's plan for her life. The author has done a wonderful job of combing faith, historical fiction and romance that results in a story that I definitely recommend. I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

A pleasurable clean read.
Once I started reading, I could not stop. A good mix of plot, history, scripture , and intrigue. Nicely done!
