Sweet Carolina Morning is Southern Fiction at its very best: warm, tender, lighthearted, and heartfelt. Linny Taylor's life in Willow Hill, North Carolina has not been an easy road; twice-widowed, her second husband left her broke and broken-hearted, but she has rebuilt her life and is about to marry Jack Avery. Jack is divorced and the father of a 12-year-old son, Neal, and Linny has been putting her heart and soul into creating a new family with Jack and Neal. But Linny has many obstacles to overcome for her dream of a happily-ever after to come true, including future in-laws who seem less than enthusiastic about Linny marrying their son, and an ex-wife who keeps insinuating herself into their lives. Linny, Jack, Neal, and all the other characters in this book are so full of heart, humor, and love, that you will be rooting for all of them to get their own happy ending! Sweet Carolina Morning is the second book in the Willow Hill series, following the wonderful Linny's Sweet Dream List. Although this book can stand on its own merits, I encourage you to read Linny's Sweet Dream List first, so that you can be introduced to the characters from the beginning of their story. I'm excited that there will be a third book in the future! I can't wait to find out more about these wonderful characters and where life will take them next!

This is book 2 in the Willow Hill series. It's best to read this series in order to best understand all of the characters.

Linny is twice widowed and has started a new relationship with Jack, the town veterinarian. Their new engagement meets many obstacles and Linny isn't sure that she'll finally get her 'happily ever after'. There is Neal - Jack's teenage son who continues to talk about how wonderful his mom is, jack's parents who appear to be less than thrilled to get a new daughter in law, jack's ex and her husband (who was once Jack's best friend) continue to talk trash about Linny. For her part, Linny is trying too hard to get Neal to accept her, working to start a new business and hoping for happiness. This book discusses serious issues but at times is laugh out loud funny especially when Linny is with her sister or her mom. She is a great character and I was rooting for her throughout the book.

I am anxiously waiting for a continuation of Linny's story in book 3 in the series due to publish in January, 2017.

Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Favorite Quotes:

If she messed up in this new job, he'd be that troubled teen with the shaved head who sold pot and lived in their basement after he dropped out of school in tenth grade.

Linny quietly steamed. She pictured Vera mincing as she walked up to accept the silver tennis trophy at the club awards dinner, an endless piece of toilet paper trailing from her shoe. Next, a tragic hair flat-iron malfunction leaving Vera looking like Big Bird as she stared, bewildered, at the hunks of blond tresses burned off in her hand. Linny exhaled, feeling better. Those visualizations she'd learned from that self-help book could be so calming.

I befriended my mother-in-law... She shoots squirrels and fixes them for supper but thought I wasn't classy enough for Jerry.

Jerry's mother was a bible-thumper who drove a jacked-up PT Cruiser.

Her mother's Buick was pockmarked with dents that Dottie swore were from people backing into it while she was innocently shopping at the Winn-Dixie. Linny winced inwardly, picturing her mother laughing gaily while at the wheel of a humongous juggernaut of a motor home barreling down the road, bouncing from one guardrail to another.

My Review:

I adored this amusing and insightful story from start to finish. Linny's story just gets better with the second book of the series, and I will be eagerly awaiting future works from this talented author. The plot was relevant and entertaining while the writing was effusively detailed, engaging, cleverly insightful, and humorous. Ms. Schild's characters were quirky, flawed, smart, amusing, and intriguing. Linny remains one of my favorite characters as she is a smart and resourceful gal that uses movies and television shows as reference material while she navigates new waters as a future step-mother to a geeky pre-teen boy, a boy who is currently testing the limits and pushing her buttons. While watching the Brady Brunch for inspiration, Linny laments that Carol Brady makes it look so easy, but later has second thoughts and wonders if Carol Brady drinks. Linny's humorous inner musings and her newly honed skill of using visualization as a coping mechanism are an endless source of amusement. More please!

Sweet Carolina Morning takes up Linny's story from the first book about her, Linny's Sweet Dream List. It is all about that pre-wedding time, as many know it is a time that can be busy, lots of decisions to be made and tensions to be dealt with.

For Linny that is exactly what it is. She is going into her third wedding, her two previous husbands having left her.... by dying! Her new business is humming along, but her relationship with Jack has turned a bit rocky. The ex-wife is certainly a burr that irritates, as she not so subtly tries to steer Jack and her son - pre-teen Neal, away from Linnie. However Linnie is working really hard to form a relationship with him. But it is not all plain sailing.

As well Jack's parents are something else and it could be said rather a challenge, but maybe they will come round. Jack himself is torn, as his son starts to struggle in school Vera is ex wife is trying to say that it is the stress of the pending marriage of Jack and Linny. At times I wanted to shake both Jack and Linny! Jack because he seems to be ignoring Linny's needs, and Linny because she is so anxious and hyper worried, especially about her own mother who just seems to be having a ball.

Slowly plans for the wedding start to come together and while it might not be a traditional one it is promising to be memorable. A crisis over Kate - Linny's sister brings things to a head and everyone involved starts to do a little thinking and re-evaluating and before you know it that happy, blended family that Linny dreams of just might be a possibility.

I enjoyed reading on in Linny's story, seeing what came next after the engagement... the challenges, the heart searching, the ups and the downs. I look forward to what might happen to her in the next book planned, Sweet Southern Hearts.

Sweet Carolina Morning is an endearing novel, as Susan’s first, Linny’s Sweet Dream List. So many people will identify with Linny as she faces another marriage, and prepares to take on the role of step-mother to a young man who doesn’t appear all too anxious for her to fill that position. Linny forges ahead even though she has every reason to throw in the towel as she deals with an ex-wife, and her fiancé’s family. Oh, the drama! It’s fun, poignant, and delightfully entertaining!

Readers will love the depth of the characters; their humor and frustrations, as they deal with real-life situations. You will root for Linny to find true happiness. If you haven’t read Linny’s Sweet Dream List, you can still enjoy the ride of the second novel, but I would advise everyone to pick up the first novel, and appreciate Sweet Carolina Morning even more.

Kudos to Susan Schild for a super second novel, and I can’t wait for the third in this series. This is definitely Southern fiction you will adore! I receive a free copy of this novel for an honest review.

First, I have to start off by saying this is not my usual read. Sometimes though, ya just need a break, and want something different. My thought was, why not indulge in a book that contains a story filled with amusing, witty characters, and true to life circumstances? That's exactly why I picked up Sweet Carolina Morning by Susan Schild, and I wasn't disappointed. I could feel myself smiling and groaning along with the characters as I read through all of their ups and downs while noting how realistic their situations were. This is a story that will resonate with many readers, leaving them with a "been there, done that," feeling.

A bit about the story...in this second book of the Willow Hill Series, a fictional town in North Carolina, sweet Linny is doing what we all do - navigating her world, interacting with her family and friends. After a rough start, where's she's had to essentially re-build her life all over again after some bad luck with the first two husbands, she's found her true soul mate in Jack Avery. He has a son, Neal, from a previous marriage and Neal tends to not be as enthusiastic about Linny as his dad. Uh oh. And neither do the in-laws, who still seem smitten with Jack's ex, Vera. Poor Linny is feeling in the dumps about this, and on top of it all, she's also got her Mama to worry over, a sister about to have a baby, and many more worries with her business, and pending wedding. I was about to have a drink for her on behalf of all her worries!

But Linny is a real trooper. She's got backbone and smarts. She's funny too - how about a little spritz of Pledge around the place just when the in-laws show up unexpectedly? There's nothing like the smell of furniture polish to instill confidence in one's keeping the place up. I loved it.

Sweet Carolina Morning will warm your heart, make you laugh, and nod your head in agreement as Linny works out her personal issues.

As for Susan Schild's writing - she's got this knack for making you feel like you're IN the story, right beside the characters. At times I wanted to talk to Linny! Tell her, uh uh, don't you think that way! Or, you go girl. These are characters to root for, and especially Linny. If you haven't added the book to your shelves, you should!

2017 Update: After reading the first book last month, and taking part in the last book in this trilogy, I decided to re-read this book. I still love it and still think that Schild is a gifted writer who knows how to keep you reading until the very end.

While I still find Neal to be manipulative, this time around I realized how vulnerable he is as he feels that he should be loyal to his mother, but wants to like and welcome Linny into the family.

I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys humorous contemporary romance. If you prefer clean books, this series would be a good one to read.

Disclaimer: I received a review copy (AKA an ARC) of this book in exchange for my personal review, as well as participation in the review tour. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

Angie’s Review: I really wish that I had started with the first book, Linny’s Sweet Dream List, which I will be reading shortly so that I understand more of Linny’s backstory (such as why she’s been through two marriages already; with both husbands six feet under at very young ages).

I feel that Linny tries too hard. Between trying to come up with ideas to win Neal, Jack’s preteen son, over to trying to be perfect at everything she does. I do have to say, however, that I got a kick out of her inner monologue.

Jack seriously annoyed me. He refused to realize what a conniving bitch his ex-wife, Vera, is and kept the nature of his relationship with Linny secret from his family.

I seriously dislike his parents. CeeCee especially. So annoying, kind of endearing at ties, and someone who finds it hard to let the past stay in the -as. Rush amused me with his bartending skills.

Neal? Typical spoiled teenager who desperately wants his family to get back together. I both wanted to throttle him for his treatment of Linny and hug him because he was caught between a rock and hard place, that and because his mother is just such a piece of work.

Having said all that, Ms. Schild excels at developing her characters, slowly reeling her readers in as we cheer on Linny, laugh at the shenanigans, and become exasperated. Though I did find Linny annoying at times for having her head in the clouds, she made me smile and cheer her on even in the face of adversity.

I look forward to reading the third and final book next year.

Linny Taylor is back. Her story continues where the first book, Linny’s Sweet Dream List, left off. Twice widowed Linny is about to get her happily-ever-after with her boyfriend, Jack Avery. Unfortunately, things never run smoothly for Linny and they don’t this time either.

Jack’s family is the big problem as his mother doesn’t seem to like Linny very much. Jack’s ex-wife takes every opportunity to badmouth Linny to his mother and Jack’s teenage son, Neal. Neal’s schoolwork begins to suffer. Jack and Linny fear it’s their upcoming nuptials causing Neal’s problems. Jack spends more and more time with Neal, leaving Linny out in the cold.

To add to Linny’s troubles, her mother meets a man on a cruise. A man Linny is convinced is a con man, but that’s not all. Linny’s sister is about to have a baby, but she’s suddenly having marital problems. Linny wants to be there to help everyone, which is not an easy task.

I urge readers to read the first book Linny’s Sweet Dream List before delving into this one. It gives you a clear picture of Linny and Jack’s relationship and their individual histories. You’ll read about them in this book, too, but it’s so much better to read both books together. It’s even more enjoyable.

This book oozes with southern charm as well as dealing with some very real issues. Mixing two families together while trying to keep the peace is realistic. It’s not sugar coated in this story. We learn the difficulties everyone involved experiences.

I did think Linny should lighten up on her mother and let her live a little. She’s a smart woman and can handle her own, but her devotion towards her mother is touching.

Linny and Jack’s story doesn’t end here. There’s a third book which promises to be just as good as this one.

Review also found at http://kristineandterri.blogspot.ca/2...

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The expected publication data is August 2nd, 2016.

This story tells the difficulty of starting over in a new relationship when there are other people involved, in particular children. It deals with the struggle of trying to gain acceptance and know you role when the children are not yours. A very real challenge in today's society.

With that in mind, I should have really enjoyed this story however I only found it meh. There are two main reasons why.

Linny and her sister were depicted as almost over the hill. They were not even 40 years old. While perhaps traditionally marriage and babies occurred at a younger age, that is not the norm these days. In today's day, woman are getting married and having children at a much older age as they focus on their careers first. This is the norm which made this story feel a little bit old fashioned. Seriously, 38 or whatever age Linny was is not old.

My second issue was Linny herself. While I get that she was insecure due to her previous marriages she really came off to me as a little annoying with her insecurities. The way she blamed Jack for everything when it was clear the issue was hers bothered me. Anyone ever heard of the phrase communication is key?

That being said, the story did have a good message and the writing was well done. My issues with the story are more about my own personal views as opposed to the actual story and although I am usually able to set them aside when reading a story, I was unable to this time. This impacted my enjoyment of the story.

I’m back visiting Linny in book 2 of the Willow Hill Series, and I’m happy to see all her quirky family and friends are here too. Twice widowed Linny has worked through much of her grief for husband #1, and anger about con man husband #2, and is open to starting a new relationship with Dr Jack, the towns’ veterinarian. They are early into their engagement and all is not romance and roses. As the time to pick a wedding date approaches, fears from their pasts cast shadows over their future. Even though Linny is “in Love” and excited to marry Jack—there is a big problem in the form of a Jack’s teenaged son, who Linny desperately wants to win over. Linny has never been a mom before, and being a Step-mother is intimidating. Then there are those other little problems with perfect perky Vera (Jack’s ex) and her new husband (Jack’s former best friend), and also with Jack’s Country Club keeping-up-appearances mother CeeCee who still misses Vera. Linny’s not the only one going through big changes in Sweet Carolina Morning; her sister and mom are starting new chapters too.

The author does a great job of addressing real life concerns, and keeps it light with doses of humor so that no matter the outcome I came away caring about everyone in the story. Even though it’s a novel, I would recommend this book to anyone contemplating a blended family marriage. Thank you Susan Schild for keeping the giggles coming, looking forward to book 3, Sweet Southern Hearts. Thank you also to Kensington Publishing Corp. for the Advanced Readers Copy it’s always a joy to find new talented writers.

In this second in a series, Author Susan Schild has bested herself. She's continued the story of the unfortunate Linny - a modern Southern woman who's lost two husbands and still hopes for the best.
I love that Schild has created a well-rounded female, complete with her own career and surrounded by believable family and interesting friends. As I read this second installment, I cared about what happened and I laughed along with the twists and turns that Schild provides. And now, I care even more about what happens next!

I received a free copy to pre-read and this is my honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel! Linny, twice widowed, is a wonderful protagonist -- kind, determined, insecure at times, and totally relatable. I was rooting for her as she tried to navigate challenging relationships with her fiance's son and parents, while also coming to terms with her own feelings about marriage. I read this book before reading the first novel in the series, and found that it stood alone as a fun, engaging read. Now I can't wait to go back and read the first book -- and also to read the next one!

I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak at Susan's second book in her series called Sweet Carolina Morning. I loved it and found it hard to put down. Susan's attention to detail and Southern references throughout the book make it a charming read. I think everyone can relate to Linny in some way and how she tackles life's ups and downs. I can't wait for the third book in the series and look forward to reading more of Susan's work.

I started this book thinking it would be a simple Happily-Ever-After and I wanted a happy ending, but what I got was so much better! Great detailed writing and, yes, it ends happily. But this book is layered with the struggles involved in becoming a step-mother and second wife. I rooted for Linny at every turn, but both she and Jack (and Neal) needed to learn a few lessons to make her dreams come true.

I was happy to receive an ARC of this book, because the characters in Linny's Sweet Dream List had pulled me in. This second book in the series didn't disappoint--Linny is still genuine and relatable, and surrounded by a cast of equally quirky, interesting friends and relatives. This is, truly, a sweet southern romance, well-written and engaging.

Sweet Carolina Morning is the 2nd book in the Willow Hill series. It's even better than the 1st, Linny's Sweet Dream List. The story centers around Linny Taylor, a nearly 40 something woman who is recovering financially and emotionally from being twice widowed. Linny is now in a stable relationship with a wonderful man named Jack, but she struggles to completely give her heart and trust to him. She's always worried that something will go wrong, as it has in the past. She is also trying to form a bond with his 12 year old son, Neal, working to find the right balance with impending step-parenthood.

What I love most about Susan Schild's books is how well she expresses the thoughts, feelings and doubts of most middle-aged women that embark in a new relationship. Her writing elevates the cozy genre.

My own children had to deal with a new man in my life at about Neal's age. (He's now my husband, whose name happens to be Neal!!) I'm also watching my 12 year old grandson try to find his way through the new relationships both of his parents have after divorcing a couple years ago. I can honestly say that her descriptions of Neal's reactions and Linny's feelings are completely accurate and oh, so real!

I'm looking forward to reading the 3rd book in this series. I hope Susan continues to write new stories for me to get lost in.

This is the second book of the Willow Hill series by Susan Schild where Linny’s and Jack’s story continues. It picks up right where Linny’s Sweet Dream List ended. Things are looking up for Jack and Linny. It seems they’ve got their relationship figured out. In fact, they’re planning a wedding. Now, if they can just get Jack’s son, Neal, on board….Oh, yeah, and do something about Jack’s ex.

Sweet Carolina Morning is Southern Fiction at it’s finest. It’s sweet, a little bit sassy, and all around entertaining. The characters are quirky, bless their hearts. The obstacles for Linny’s HEA are many and seem to be mostly centered around Vera, Jack’s ex, and her exploits. Linny is making headway with Neal, Jacks’ son, and they manage to pull off a few “capers” which impress the 12-year-old. Life in Willow Hill is never dull.

Sweet Carolina Morning was a quicker read than the Linny’s Sweet Dream List. Probably because all of the backstories on all the characters are already known and this one is all about new adventures. If you’re looking for a sweet and easy summer read I’d seriously consider grabbing this series, sitting down with a cup of sweet tea, and while away the afternoon under a shade tree.

Linny Taylor is back and so are her fun friends and family. Picking up where the first book left off, Linny is diving right in to her future with Jack. A warm, and heartfelf novel that show the bumps along the way to happiness. A really good read. I cannot wait for the next book in the series to see what happens next to these characters!

We first met Linny in her journey of tiny steps after tremendous loss. She’d returned home to Willow Hill to regroup and realign her own priorities. Taking another trip with Linny was a wonderful journey as she navigated her grief and anger from her two earlier marriages, and finally finds herself standing on stable ground.

Linny is a wonderful character: open hearted, warm and not prone to giving up, in many ways she carried that Scarlett O’Hara “tomorrow is a new day” attitude forward. Schild’s writing brings that flair so prevalent in southern fiction, a rather roundabout meander through the story in all the best ways. Linny is very much that southern woman: soft and malleable appearing on the outside with a core of steel beneath.

Enough time has passed, and the flirtations with Jack, the town vet are moving along nicely. She’s steadily moving forward to grab her desire for a more fulfilled life and future, and her impending marriage is the next logical step. But, it wouldn’t be her life if the unexpected didn’t arise and attempt to send her veering off course. Jack’s ex wife is omnipresent and intrusive, his son’s dismissive attitudes, and even his family’s displeasure at the ‘union’. Poor Linny, her style and grace should have her sailing through these issues, she’s not in the relationship for any of the ‘wrong’ reasons, but her history with her husbands, the constant worries cropping up and the general sense of unwelcome from Jack’s family have her less than an over the moon bride to be.

Full of everything that I’ve come to expect from Schild, this story balances conflict and concerns with laughter and heart as the characters drive the story forward. Following nicely after Linny’s Sweet Dream List, you can read this book on its own, but the information and familiarity with Linny and her struggles and growth from when we first meet her will enhance this read. What jumps out at readers is the truth in presentation of the story, Linny’s struggles with those little defeatist voices in her head, the issues exacerbated by her past, and her desire and sheer will to overcome the bumps in the road to grab at her chance for happiness again.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Another winner from Susan Schild! I loved her previous novel Linny’s Sweet Dream List and this one leaves off right where she left off. In Sweet Carolina Morning we see Linny trying to develop a relationship with her stepson, trying to make sure her mother isn’t getting taken advantage of, trying to forge a relationship with her soon to be in-laws who are still head over heels with her fiancée’s ex and dealing with her sister pregnancy. Talk about having your hands full!
Linny is trying to focus on her wedding but wants to make sure her and her soon to be husband are on the same page. She wants him to have a backbone when it comes to his son and to top it off she finds out her soon to be in-laws don’t even know that her relationship is serious much less that they are engaged. She starts to feel like Jack doesn’t want to marry her and that her hope for this new life is slipping away. She is also dealing with her soon to be step sons making her life miserable. She thought they were on a good track but just when she makes some lead way he pulls back. All she wants is for everything to line up right for her big day.

I loved this tale because it is so relatable. I also enjoy that Linny and family/friends are a close but crazy bunch. She has had some lows in life but she continues to believe that life still has some good things in store for her, and that’s what makes me love her so. Anyone who has had life kick them in the rear yet continues to have faith is someone I’ll always root for. This is one read that is funny yet touching, I for one truly enjoyed this read and I know you will as well.

This is the first book by Susan Schild that I've read and it most definitely won't be my last. Susan writes characters that are lovable and very real.

This is the second book in the series. I really wish I would have read the first book because I might have had a little more insight into Jack and Linny's relationship.

When this story starts they are on their way to marriage, yet they've only been dating about four months. I know this sort of thing happens, but considering Jack has a young son from a previous marriage, I found their decision to walk down the aisle to be a little premature. Maybe if I had read the first book, I could have understood the reasoning for this.

Linny is quite a character. You will love her and you will want to choke her. She's that friend that brings drama with her wherever she goes and she wants to get things so right that she gets them so wrong.

The one thing you can say about Linny is that she tries hard and she doesn't always screw up. She has a lot of things working against her. Neal, Jack's twelve year old son seems to have mixed feeling about her. Then there's Vera, Jack's ex who really can't stand her. Lastly there are Jack's parents that are stuck in the middle of a divorce they don't know much about.

I love the supporting cast, Kate, her pregnant sister that has some issues of her own and her bff, Mary Catherine. They both helped Linny find her way and fix some of her mistakes.

I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to continue Linny's story. I do recommend that you read Linny's Sweet Dream List first.

I must confess that I have not read the first book of this series and therefore I may be missing some key details on the history of the characters. However, I must say that I didn’t feel I didn’t know the main personalities of Sweet Carolina Morning. I think Susan Schild gave enough details to her story that I didn’t feel lost.

I didn’t however entirely warm to the people in this book. I felt a lack of connection somehow, particularly with Linny, which was frustrating as she was the centre of the story. There didn’t seem to be a big connection between her and Jack- I just didn’t feel it through the pages. I could certainly appreciate their difficulties in trying to manoeuver their upcoming wedding plans around Jack’s son. I could also appreciate that Linny was trying to establish a bond with her future stepson while not upsetting his world. But because of that focus I didn’t feel the bond between Linny and Jack as a couple, which was disappointing.

I really loved Linny’s sister and her mother was sometimes a fun light relief. I also embraced the animals, and particularly the dogs, because they meant a lot to the whole family.

I’m not sure I’ve quite put my finger on my lack of connection but I believe that though the plot is well able to stand alone from the previous novel there is perhaps a missing link for me with the bond between Jack and Linny- the romantic aspect.

Just finished reading Sweet Carolina Morning, the second book in the series by Susan Schild, and cannot wait for the next book in the series to come out. Linny and Jack, the main characters in the book, are down to earth characters who the author has created and makes me feel like could be my next door neighbors. Their story is heartwarming, funny and very realistic. The situations they deal with are situations that I either have encountered or could imagine myself encountering. Linny is a twice widower who falls in love for a third time but this time for a man with a pre-teen son. I enjoyed how the author showed Linny's zest for life (and her fanciful imagination) even through her trials of being a soon to be step mom, planning a wedding, running a business and dealing with her own family all while trying to create a blended family. I absolutely loved the references to all the places of interest, restaurants, parks, etc. in North Carolina. Some of them I have actually visited and recall fondly. Sweet Carolina Morning is a great read, well written and keeps your attention. I was provided a free advance reader copy of this book for an honest review. I had not read the first book in the series Linny's Sweet Dream List prior to reading Sweet Carolina Morning but have purchased it and am enjoying it now.

Obstacles, road blocks, family & friends. This should be one of the happiness times in a woman's life, Linny. She has found love again and wants to share her life with him, but her past, his son, his ex-wife, his family and a few friends all have found their way into a wedding planning that has turned into a nightmare for Linny. This was a sweet, warm, sometime humorous glimpse into a woman's life after being widowed, not once but twice, close to forty, returned back to her home town, fallen in love again and planning a wedding. Along with all the headaches that go along with it.

Linny has more issues that she can deal with and a wedding to plan. The least of her worries at this time should be picking out a wedding dress or at least the color. Family, exs, friends, and life just interferes. There was love, humor, honesty, every day life, and in it all was Linny's life. Finding love again was hard. Finding acceptance within in that love when a child was involved proves harder. Finding acceptance in their life when the ex wants to keep stepping proves to be a tipping point at times.

I enjoyed visiting down south and the charm that was found there. The love, drama, humor, sweet southern comfort, and the all life has to through your way made this women's fiction a keeper. Moving on to see what else is in store for Willow Hill series.

"Sweet Carolina Morning" by Susan Child. This story tells the tale of Linny, Jack and Neal. Linny and Jack are engaged and Neal is his son. Linny, although sure about her love for Jack, is not so sure about the path to the wedding. She came across quite insecure and, at times, her insecurities created problems. I liked Linny most of the time and could even commiserate with her feelings, especially with her soon to be stepson, but often, it was a bit too much and I just wanted to shake her. Jack was terrific and seemed to be understanding, although, he, too, at times needed a smack upside the head. Overall, I liked the story and, to be honest, the things that seemed to bother me made the story and the characters more real. I did not read the first book of the series and was able to follow along but believe that I might have enjoyed this one a bit more if I had known the backgrounds. This is a heartwarming tale that I am curious now to read the future book three and see where things go. It certainly makes for a pleasant summer beach read - there's plenty of humor and moments that made me smile and the story flowed well and was a fairly quick and easy read. This is a heartwarming story about combining families and trying to make good impressions.
The author tackles the heart of becoming a step parent. She highlights the dreams, disillusions, and realities families face. The story flows quickly and smoothly as the drama unfolds.
The characters are realistic, likable and well-developed. Readers can easily relate to the highs and lows of the characters. The author artfully combines tension, suspense, humor and romance for a well-balanced story.
This is the second installment in the Willow Hill series, but can be read on its own. The protagonist is a delight as she tries to please everyone while reaching for her dream life that, at the moment, may be just out of her grasp. The secondary characters are unique and add charm to this already enchanting story.
SWEET CAROLINA MORNING is a fun, entertaining and uplifting read with Southern flare. An enjoyable story about family, friends and coming together.
