4.5 ”Forever Yours” STARS

description

A.M.Hargrove and Terri E. Laine delivered an unforgettable love story. They clicked so many damn boxes everything from ugly crying, humor, epic love and most importantly an original story line.

The story starts off with a huge kick to the feels and then the authors take us on a continuous pattern of present/past every other chapter. Sadly, this drove me nuts and I did have a very hard time remembering which scenes occurred at which times in the storyline.

description

I thought I could cheat and read all the past chapters and then go do all the present chapters until the end of the story. However, I was warned by several that it would ruin the delivery of the story. This story took me longer to read because I had a hard time finding a reading grove but as you can see, that didn’t affect my rating very much.

Cate and Drew’s story is told with humor, heart and ladies this doctor who falls victim to an illness (cancer) that he specializes in is one hell of a dreamy hero!! Drew’s love is a gift that any book boyfriend list maker will appreciate. Who wouldn't want to experience a Drew-gasm?

description

This is the type of story that research may ruin the journey for readers. You will have a ton of questions once you read the first set of present chapters. To be honest, I was questioning things all the way into ninety percent of story. Thereafter, all questions are answered. (not sure how all friends will receive these answers) I do think one or two additional categories should have been marked on Goodreads, but I do get that then it would ruin the impact the story.

”The past keeps colliding into the present.”

Overall, a tragic, inspirational, sexy as hell, tale with loveable characters and wonderful writing. Look for the rug to be pulled out from underneath you is all I can say without spoiling the story for you!

”It’s time to take the first step. Will you take it with me?”

...promise me you'll live. Just live, Cate. Do it for me.

I have no idea how to even begin reviewing this book. After reading the prologue, I knew I was in for a tear jerker, and yet nothing could have prepared me for the full effect. Nothing. Cruel and Beautiful was unlike any book I've ever read before. Beautifully tragic and emotionally charged, it's one of those books that will stay with me for a long while. I finished it last night and still find myself thinking about it. It's just one of those stories that will touch you on a visceral level. It's impossible not to have it effect you, it's just that moving.
This is yours for as long as there are beats within it. Everything I have is yours. My love, my heart, my soul, and my life, for however short or long it may be."

When Drew McKnight first laid his eyes on Cate Forbes, he knew he wanted her. Drew is older with his sights set on a career in Oncology, while Cate is still a college student with no plans on relationships or falling in love. But this isn't an angsty college romance of boy meets girl. It's a touching love story of two soul mates. It's captivating, endearing, emotional, and interspersed with just the right amount of humor. You get to watch these two fall in love slowly. You get to experience all their first smiles, emotions, feelings, everything, right alongside with them.

Cate was probably one of the most adorably quirky heroines I've ever had the pleasure of reading. I don't think any other author could have pulled off a heroine that refers to her vagina as muffin or names it Louise, and actually have it be endearing instead of cheesy. But somehow these two authors did just that. Her lack of filter between her thoughts and what she says, her quirky Cate-ism, everything just worked for me. I fell for it, hook, line and sinker.
Okay. I'll call them. Just so Louise can look pristine."
"Who the fuck is Louise?"
I hold up my index finger and jab it toward Louise.
"Jesus C. You named it Louise? How did I not ever know that?"
"It's a private thing."

Her random thoughts and banter with her best friend and Drew never failed to bring a smile to face. I'm not sure what it was that kept it from crossing over that line to annoying or cheesy, but it was utter perfection. I was laughing my fool ass off at everything.
Don't you laugh at me, Drew McKnight. I'm scared to pee in the woods and I hate snakes. Louise does too."
"Louise loves my snake, Cate."
"That's not fair. This is real. I have to pee and I'm afraid."

I love that the authors added that bit of humor to this emotional story. There was no unnecessary angst or drama. The book flowed flawlessly without any of it. It was a touching love story but it was also so much more. At 436 pages, it was definitely on the lengthy end, and I felt like it could have been cut down in certain parts. But the story never dragged for me either, so I can't complain too much about it.

As for Drew? What can I tell you about Drew? He was perfection. Sweet yet with an incredibly sexy edge. He stole my heart and kept it, never to be the same again. This man was everything.

It's told in alternating parts of Past and Present. Throughout the entire time the reader only begins to develop more and more questions. The connection behind everything kept me riveted to the pages from start to finish. I needed answers.
Say you won't run. Say you're in this as much as I am. Say you want me the same way I want you."

This is one of those stories where the less you know going in, the better. Even the tiniest detail can be a spoiler. So I recommend going in absolutely blind.

What I can tell you, is this is a book unlike any you've read before. If you want a romance that will break your heart and melt it at the same time, this is simply a must read. It's heart-breakingly good. One of the most unique books I've read all year. This was my first book by these authors, and I can say with utmost certainty that it will not be my last. I'm a huge fan after this and look forward to whatever they have next.

If you're looking for an emotional read that's guaranteed to make even the strongest hearts cry, this is that book. Once you meet Cate and Drew you'll know exactly what I mean.

5 (MILION) Stars!

After reading the prologue I knew this will not be a light read - yet, nothing prepared me for what I experienced. It made me laugh, cry and fall in love. To say I was surprised would be an understatement... but one thing is for sure, I will never forget this book! 💔

📚 "𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬. 𝐌𝐲 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞, 𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭, 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐥, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞, 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐛𝐞." 📚

When Drew McKnight first saw Cate Forbes, he knew she would be his. 😍
Drew is an oncology doctor and Cate is a college student who has no desire to get into a serious relationship, but that does not stop Drew from trying to conquer her heart in any way possible. 💜
But wait... this is not just another romantic book about a guy who meets a girl, they fall in love and live happily ever after - because when Cate finally gives up and it seems that everything is going to work out, life has other plans... 💥

The plot jumps from past to present, from the moment they met and fell in love in the past - to the present, where they are no longer together... 💔
Throughout the reading, I had more and more questions - what happened between them during this time?? How can it be that they are no longer together after all the love they had?? what? Why? how? WHEN?!? 😱

📚 ”𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭.” 📚

It's an inspiring love story, sexy, emotional, surprising and it also has moments of humor in just the right amount! 😍
The writing is lovely, the characters are amazing and their chemistry is perfect! And although it was love at first sight, their relationship has developed in a great pace. 👏

The only thing that bothered me a bit was that until all the answers were received, there were parts that I felt confused about the jumps between the past and the present, but believe me... IT'S WORTH THE WAIT!!! 💜💜💜

📚 "𝐒𝐚𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐫𝐮𝐧. 𝐒𝐚𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐬 𝐈 𝐚𝐦. 𝐒𝐚𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮." 📚

According to its name, the book is cruel and beautiful - unlike any book I have read before... A few months have passed since, and I am still thinking about its surprising plot, which left me SPEECHLESS. (Well, even the authors cried while writing it!) 😱
So if you want to read a book that will break your heart but at the same time make it expand with love - this is a MUST-READ! 💃💜

By the way, after I finished, I found out that it is based on a true story, and I found myself standing up and clapping. To my Kindle ... alone in my room! 😂
And then, I started crying again!
God, what an AMAZING book. 👏👏👏

Emotional, beautiful, stunning, shocking, amazing, absolutely heartbreaking. I am at a loss for the right words. I've been an avid reader most of my life and this book has left me speechless. I was confused from the second chapter in, I thought I had figured the story out and just wanted to get to the ending and get my HEA. Then I hit the 90% and it crushed me and re-healed me in the most beautiful way. I basically sobbed my way to the end after that point. The story was told in alternating chapters from present to past throughout the whole book, and comes together at the end. It's a beautiful story full of love. Without saying something to give anything away, read this and when you do, don't give up and look ahead or read spoilers, enjoy it, embrace it!!! It is amazing in the most spectacular ways!!!!!!

4.5 beautiful stars

Since Drew met Cate he couldn't get her out of his mind. Determined to make her his, he's trying to convince her to go out on a date with him. Cate is a dedicated student and she's working hard for it, but eventually she accepts to go out with Drew. She's quickly enchanted by him and Drew wants a future with her, but sometimes life has other plans..

"This is yours for as long as there are beats within it. Everything I have is yours. My love, my heart, my soul, and my life, for however short or long it may be."

Did you check out the title of this book? Good. Because this book is exactly that. It was cruel and it was beautiful. It's one of the greatest reads I had for this year and it's one of the books that will stay with me for a very long time. It's really unforgettable and I would recommend it to anyone.

It's been a few days that I finished this book and I still can't get over it. I don't know how to describe this or talk about it without spoiling it for you, but I'll try my best.

I got into this book knowing that it would be a tear jerker, but it wasn't just emotional, it was also funny, romantic and sexy as hell. The sex scenes were scorching. The chemistry and built up between the hero & the heroine was wonderful. And even though it was love at the first sight, their relationship moved in a slow pace and worked really well for me.

"Don't you laugh at me, Drew McKnight. I'm scared to pee in the woods and I hate snakes. Louise does too."

"Louise loves my snake, Cate."

I punch him in the arm. "That's not fair. This is real. I have to pee and I'm afraid."

"Right. I'll go with you and ward off any wayward snakes that might be jumping up and biting Louise. How's that?"

The reasons I'm not giving this a 5, even though it now belongs to my favorite reads for this year, is because of the length, it seemed a little too long for me and it was confusing for most of the part. Also, the book was going from present to past chapters and even though it wasn't an issue for me at first, at some point it got a little tiring. Yes, all my answers were answered at the last part of the book, but can't hide that I was curious for a long time before I got to my answers and therefore minus the half star.

I cried hard at the last part of the book, thinking that this was one of the stories that will stick with me and that I won't forget it. I loved everything about it. The humor, the heroine was funny and quirky, the hero was swoon worthy and just unbelievable. I want to say that I liked the past chapters more than the present ones. I loved past Drew much more than present Drew and I don't mean I didn't like present Drew, but he didn't steal my heart like past Drew. I hope I'm making sense, otherwise you have to read this to be able to understand me.

Nonetheless, don't go skipping chapters or trying to read all the present/past chapters together, because this would ruin it for you. The book is like that because it serves a purpose and just enjoy the ride. I know I did.

And after hearing that this is based on a true love story, all I have to say to the authors & their team is.. Thank you for sharing this story with us!

2.5 Please don't run me off of Goodreads for this one Stars

Okay so this is yet another book that I won't tell you what it's about because I don't want to ruin the story for anyone. What I can say is that Cruel and Beautiful is a tale about more than falling in love. It's about what happens after you fall in love, the ups and downs, the painful memories and the good, and the love for a person that makes everything else disappear.

I got this ARC awhile ago but I was being a big baby after reading the emotional prologue so I wasn't ready to start it. But I put on my big girl panties and dove in...and then face planted. What I was thinking would be an emotional rollercoaster ended up being a little boring. I found myself getting easily distracted with this one and even though I started it on my lazy day I still didn't finish until the next day. That's a big thing for me, I'm a one book a day type of person!

The overall story was good and interesting and I was driving myself crazy trying to figure out what the hell was going on. But that became the problem...I couldn't figure out what was going on! Every chapter went back and forth from the past and the present and it honestly got a little confusing. Also a little frustrating because it almost seemed like I was reading two different books.

Cate was also a little hard to handle and she seemed really immature, especially in the chapters that were in the past. When she first met Drew and their relationship started it wasn't easy for me to get past her attitude that seemed a little childish at times. At first her character was a little funny but it soon became really annoying. And I really really couldn't get over the fact that she names her va jay jay Louise. Just no, okay. No.

The book sort of came together at the end when the past and the present finally came together but even after that I still can't really say how I feel about this story. Once I figured out what the hell was going on and it all made more sense I finally understood the pieces that I was missing but by that point I had just spent the whole book being confused and a little annoyed. So really by that point I'm not sure if finally finding out was worth it or not.

Overall, the story was really different, and unique, and it made the book a really interesting one. I couldn't fully get into it because of the back and forth from past to present but now that I've finished the whole book I can appreciate all the confusion I had to go through to get to the end.

Maybe this is a case of "it's not you, it's me" but the dialogue between these two, specifically the guy is really off-putting for me. He speaks like a 50-year old guy in a historical fiction book- too chivalrous maybe for a 27-year old. In the days of clipped speech assholish heroes, I guess I've grown bored with the sugary-sweet heroes that act twice their age. Because of this, I'm not connecting to them as a couple at all. Especially when a heroine uses words like "dickwad" and names her vajayjay Louise. She's as goofy-blunt as he is stuffy-old fashioned. Throw in the V-card heroine that's climbing him like an oak tree on their first date and it's all a bit too cliché. I won't start with him refusing her advances...all in the act of being chivalrous I'm sure.

There's also the past/present flip flop, flip flop. Every. Single. Chapter. I can't connect when I go back and forth like a Yo-Yo every 10-15 pages. I was temped to read all the PAST then read all the PRESENT but I was warned not to do so.

So, I'm cutting my losses. But don't let my issues stop you. It's truly a taste thing, I'm sure. Give me an asshole talks-like-he's-stupid hero any day, I guess.

I'm out...

“Everything I have is yours. My love, my heart, my soul, and my life, for however short or long it may be.”

Cruel and Beautiful's prologue makes it clear that this particular story is not your usual romance.

When Drew McKnight meets Cate Forbes, he's pursuing a residency in oncology while Cate is still in college trying to make ends meet. Cate doesn't date. She knows she needs to keep good scores to graduate and find a decent job. She doesn't need a distraction. Drew makes it impossible for Cate to continue her life as before. Drew knows that she is the one he wants to spend his life with. He begins a courtship and then a friendship which is swoon-worthy. I absolutely loved Drew. He was charming and romantic. He was also sweet and funny. I heart him so much.

I really don't want to tell you anything else. I want you to be surprised. Just remember this is not a typical story. There is a twist in the last part of the book which took me by surprise but made complete sense looking back.

I believe when you start this book, it's better if you go in blind. Don't read the blurb, just start reading. Like I mentioned earlier, after the prologue, you know more about what you're getting yourself into.

The narrative alternates between the present and the past. This usually is not my favorite but it works for this novel.

The story is heartbreaking. There's sadness but there also humor intertwined with hope, healing, and love.

Cliffhanger: No

EMOTIONAL! HEART WRENCHING! TEARJERKER! AMAZING!

Those are the words that came to mind when I finished reading Cruel and Beautiful by A.M. Hargrove and Terri E. Laine.

The writing is exquisite, the story is beautiful, romantic and heart wrenching!

The prologue you meet Drew and Cate, their story is amazing and heartbreaking, and you know you have to continue to read on. You want to read this amazing book.

The story begins, Cate is a student and has plans for herself, then one blind date she meets the handsome/sexy Drew. Drew knows what he wants and he wants Cate.

Cruel and Beautiful is one of the best romance novels I have read in a while, when a book can make you laugh out loud and then bring you to tears you know you are reading a best seller!

I have rated Cate and Drew's Story a 5 star rating and I would highly recommend this story to anyone who loves to read romance novels. I hope these two authors continue to write more together or individually.

Way to sweet and cute for me. Who the hell is as perfect as Drew? Makes me sick. The beginning was amazing, thinking Cate lost the love of her life to cancer, then bam, they run into each other in a different state.

What can I say about this book? It's best to go in blind. Don't read spoilers. Also, please note, this story is told past to present. You will have questions that will be answered as the story unfolds. Resist the urge to jump ahead. And finally, read the author note at the end, it answers another question. Cheers and Enjoy!

Reading Cruel and Beautiful was an emotional journey for me. I kept thinking about this story long after I finished reading it.
It is heartwarming and gut wrenching at the same time, with a clever combination of past and present storytelling. I recommend to experience it blind, but to be prepared for its ups and downs with a full box of tissues !

Overall, this book is an unforgettable reader's experience, with an epilogue that was just perfect !

One of the best books I've ever read.
It was beautiful love story.
I love the characters, I love Drew, I love Cate, I love their friends and their families.

It's a story that will stay in my heart forever.
I cried (sobbing, crying ugly cry) and yes it wasn't a light reading.
I used tissues (lots of tissues), I laughed, I swooned and I loved it.
A story about loving, all the good and bad part, happy and bad time, and yes, until death do us part.

Cruel and Beautiful by AM Hargrove and Terri E Laine
4.5 stars!!!

“and know that I loved all the pieces of you with all the pieces of me.”

This was one super emotional read and a read that I will not forget for a very long time. This is one of those books that will stay with you, a book that you won’t be able to forget and a book that you will reflect on for days, weeks, months… you get the idea. Sometimes a story just grips you by the heart and soul and this was one of those books, but the difference with this book was its delivery. It was so unique, so poignant, so confusing, but it was this confusion that adds to that build. The theories I had while reading this book were plentiful and none of them were correct.

This book flicks from past to present every chapter, whatever you do, do not be tempted to read the past and then the present, it is laid out this way for a specific reason and it is this method that creates the momentum that keeps those pages turning. I ran the gamut of emotions reading this book, there were buckets and buckets of tears, there were laughs, there was a lot of swooning but most of all this book was about love. A love that was so deep, so treasured and so beautiful that it couldn’t help but melt even the coldest of hearts. This book certainly lives up to its name, it was definitely Cruel and it was amazingly Beautiful.

“This is yours for as long as there are beats within it. Everything I have is yours. My love, my heart, my soul, and my life, for however short or long it may be.”

When this book begins Cate is still in college and is hard working and studious and doesn’t date. Her best friend and roommate finally persuades her to go on a date with her brother’s best friend. With only one thing on her mind she goes but she didn’t bank on the allure of Drew McKnight. Drew was seven years older than her, was a student doctor and an amateur ice hockey player. He was stunning, they had tonnes in common, the chemistry was off the charts and the rest was history.

And so begins one of the hottest, sensuous, breath taking love stories until it isn’t.

“When they say your heart breaks, whoever, “they” is doesn’t have a clue what they’re talking about. Broken isn’t close. Shattered – no cigar. Splintered – nothing doing. Pulverized – where every tiny par is crushed beyond recognition – that’s about how it feels.”

Drew was one of the most swooniest men I have read about in a long time, he was adorable and when he loved, he was all in and loved hard. The love that he felt for Cate was of epic proportions and with every piece of dialogue and every little action his love poured out from the pages and it was reciprocated. I felt everything between these two, their love for each other commanded your attention and your heart and as their life plays out before you, you could not help but smile, laugh and love along with them. These two were soul mates, they were strawberries and cream, they were ying and yang…they just fit.

“Now, look at that door and take your first steps into your new life, Cate. And promise me you’ll live. Just live, Cate. Do it for me.”

I really cannot say anything about this book, you need to read it as the authors intended and devour it word by word. AM Hargrove and Terri E Laine take you on such an epic journey and to know that this was based on a true story seriously tugged at my emotions, no wonder it was so tangible. You could tell that this story came from experience, her heart and soul was there on the page for all to read and kudos to the author for putting her story out there. While I can imagine how difficult it was I can also imagine it being cathartic and the author certainly did her “Drew” justice. Drew is simply unforgettable…as is this book.

I had an advanced copy of this book, and it had such an impact on me that I could not wait for the release date. Everybody needs to read this book and now! I cannot remember when I last gave 5/5 to a book but for this one it was a no-brainer. It’s by far one of the best books I have read this year, if not my whole life…
I could talk about this book for days, but since I hate spoilers, I will try my best not to let anything slip because everybody should get the full effect of this book.
This book is about love, the truest and purest kind there is. It will make you sad and happy, laugh and cry, and all the shades of emotions and feelings in between. At some point, I trough my kindle away crying and saying aloud “I hate this book!”, but by the end, I was serene and happy.
The hard subject broached in this book could not have been exposed in a better way. It is so beautifully written that it takes the reader on the same journey as the characters, who are so realistic and have so much depth. This book is how a real book should be, and books like this are the reason I read at all. Not only does it make you fell (and in my case sob for hours…), it makes you think and see the world a little differently. Happily ever after has a deeper meaning for me now.
Thank you for writing this book. It is a true gem, or should I say a beautiful bird….

5 "I did not see it coming" Stars
Every now and then you come across a book that blows your mind. Literally and you just have to go pages back to really get what just happenned; those are the stories that stick with you, that pop through your head while you're working or walking down the street. This is one of them for me.
Cate and Drew. What a story! I'm not such a fan of young love but this is totally different. I had doubts about Cate, I thought of her as weak but she proved me wrong as the story evolved adn Drew is jut dreamy, God, I need one of those.
In this book the writing was key and it delivered (I did not see the ending coming). There were some grammar errors and slips with names and there are a few scenes that can be edited but overall it was genious and the transitions between past and present were really well made so you keep the mood of the reader and the story could flow.
It was a risky book for the authors in terms of writing but it is really good! Loved it

WOW .... WOW .... WOW!! What a book this is! This book is a beautifully written book of love, loss, heartache and pain and happiness. This book makes you feel it all. This is the first time ever i ended up crying on page 1 of the prologue!! The authors have done an amazing job in this story evoking so many emotions in the reader I cant possibly list them all but i promise you, that you will laugh and you will cry. This is the story of Cate and Drew and is told in the past and present, this really is a book you need to read yourself and if I say too much it will spoil the story and give it all away so i'm **hush lips**

You must read this breathtaking story, simply beautiful!

~ 4 Emotionally Charged Stars ~

What drew me to this book was the blurb but what truly sucked me in was when I read the sneak peek of the Prologue!!! This is the first book by either of these authors that I have read and I am so glad I took a chance on something new, because this is a book everyone should read!!!!

Cruel and Beautiful is a story with so much emotion. I knew going into this that this book was going to be both heart warming and heart wrenching and I was correct. The emotions this book drew out of me was amazing!! This is truly one woman's journey to finding love, letting love go and learning to love again. Cate truly had to go through the cruel to find the beautiful.

The authors created a story that you can't help feeling like you are a part of these characters lives. All the characters, both the primary and secondary ones, were essential to this story. They all landed support, love, guidance and even some comic relief. I believe this story will hit home for many readers out there. You will definitely need tissues while reading this book.

I absolutely love when two authors join forces to create a story. What is truly remarkable is when their writing style mesh so well you can't tell who wrote what part. The flow of this story was amazing. I also loved that this was a stand alone novel and

I would 100% recommend this book, but just remember to have some tissues with you when you do. You will need them.

Me during prologue:

Then this was me during chapter 1:

And since then... Erghh. My head is hurting.

Okay. So that went from "Wow, I feel like I'm going to like this one" from "Nope, not happening" real quick. To say that I'm majorly disappointed is putting it lightly.

It was also very draggy and a bit rushed for me. I didn't enjoy the build-up of the two MC's relationship---if there was even a proper one to begin with. Sorry but I think I've had one too many eyerolls with this one.

Assuming from the high average rating of this book, maybe it's safe to say that it's not the book, it's me. *cue dramatic music*

...or maybe it's just the book.

Either way, meh.

This is quite an emotional story but also a beautiful one. A well written story were you will cry and laugh with. I can start giving you a short review about Cate and Drew but you need to experience this by yourself and if you feel as strongly about this story as I do recommend this to everyone because this is definitely a MUST READ!!
