Marion Woodman was a Canadian mythopoetic author and women's movement figure. She was a Jungian analyst trained at the C. G. Jung Institute in Zürich, Switzerland. She was one of the most widely read authors on feminine psychology, focusing on psyche and soma. She was also an international lecturer and poet. Her collection of audio and visual lectures, correspondence, and manuscripts are housed at OPUS Archives and Research Center, in Santa Barbara, California. Among her collaborations with other authors she wrote with Thomas Moore, Jill Mellick and Robert Bly. Her brothers were the late Canadian actor Bruce Boa and Jungian analyst Fraser Boa.
I've been blessed to have Marion Woodman's words with me during quarantine and it's made me feel closer to my inner world. The 'soul' was always such a vague concept to me, but this book gave clarity and highlighted how much beauty it brings to life.
I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to delve deeper into understanding their psyche.
Marion Woodman was the ultimate Crone. She stood in her own power, grounded in the reality of being human and simultaneously transcending that humanity to touch eternal truths and bring them back to the rest of us in ways deeply healing and life-enhancing.
Beautiful from a beautiful author, who touched my soul forever when I was fortunate enough to do a weekend with her ...
Strange recommendation. It seems to me that, also in working with Jung and Sophia, Valentin Tomberg did something very profound in his extroardinary masterpiece Meditations on the Tarot that prefigures Woodman, in certain ways at least. My review of that book here:
Interesting collection of essays and interviews. I have a difficult time with Marion Woodman – I do not agree with her distinction between The Masculine and The Feminine, but there are continuous nuggets in her work that are perceptive and valuable. Marie Louise von Franz, to me, is a far deeper and clearer thinker, but Marion Woodman is still important and cannot be easily dismissed.
An amazing fountain of wisdom, Marion Woodman embodies the archetype of the wise woman. She's one of my favorite Jungian teachers. The depth and breadth of her understanding of the true feminine principle and the longing our world has for it is well expressed from multiple angles.
In a world so dogmatically masculine, it's interesting and refreshing to read how the feminine aspect of the soul can and ought to filter into lifestyle and being to lead a whole and fulfilling existence.
Simply brilliant. I had my highlighter out but gave up as I was just highlighting nearly every line. Powerful , insightful, nourishing, enlightening wisdom from a true wise woman.
