I have been a fan of Old Time Radio audio dramas since I was a little girl. I missed the era of OTR by decades but got to enjoy shows like Suspense, CBS Radio Mystery Theater, Lights Out, and others on NPR. The shows were hard to find anywhere else in the pre-internet days I grew up in. Once in awhile I would come across a cassette or audio book release, but not often. Then came the internet, and OTR was suddenly widely available. Then podcasters came along, sharing episodes of all sorts of shows....and creating new audio dramas. I am in heaven! Whenever I see full-cast horror story anthologies, I jump right on them and spend hours listening. Horror in the air is back! :)

I'm also a big fan of classic horror and monster movies. So when I saw Fangoria Magazine's name on a horror audio story collection, I downloaded it immediately (another awesome Audible+ find!). I'm glad I did! The production level of Dreadtime Stories 2 is awesome! Full cast, sound effects, music and awesome stories! This was a very entertaining listening experience. The audio runs about 4.5 hours and features six horror tales from various authors. The vibe reminds me of a podcast I really enjoy -- The No Sleep Podcast.

I liked all six stories. I had only heard one before. The rest were all new to me. I have added Dreadtime Stories Volume 1 to my wishlist at Audible. Definitely listening to more! The stories in Volume 2 were varied, the right ratio of horror, humor & cheesy, and fun to listen to! The gore level was not too low or too high, but just right. The sound effects are superb and add to the stories, rather than being overdone and drowning out the narrators. All of the voice actors gave great performances. Loved it!

This was a wonderful audio book.

The story that stood out the most was "Heated Premonition." I read the original story years ago and loved it. On the audio book it was updated for the 21st Century, but was still as powerful as the original.

Give this book a listen late at night and get the shivers.

(I know this is a random read, but I saw it on the Audible Plus catalogue and thought it would be a fun October entry!)
Just to be straight with it: Volume 2 of Fangoria's Dreadtime Stories is okay, but is pushed past the edge of mediocrity by its novelty. I think the idea of radio dramas being compiled into an audiobook format is GENIUS, and the natural evolution of the concept of radio dramas. And the idea of Fangoria doing a series of horror radio dramas... It's all so neat. So while I wish the writing for most of these stories was better, it's nothing that held me back from enjoying this little compilation.

The first story, 'A Heated Premonition,' was one of my least favorites. While the atmosphere is pretty good, and I enjoyed that I couldn't exactly tell where it was going, ultimately the ending twist left me needing more than I got. This was a very barebones story.

The second, 'The Dark Enforcer,' was so goofy and cliched that I kind of enjoyed it. It is exactly what you expect it to be, and has the vibes of a cheesy 80s horror movie down to the letter. It's not that great, but it's enjoyable if you can simply be along for the ride. The ending twist was kind of stupid, but it works for what this story is.

The third, 'Table Scraps,' was my favorite of the bunch. Everything from the intro to the way the plot gets rolling to the ending was awesome. And similarly to 'A Heated Premonition,' I couldn't tell where it was going, but I could feel it building up to SOMETHING. It almost reminded me of The Purge movies, where ordinary people discover what exactly America's elite are up to in secrecy. It was also more action than horror, but still had some creepy things in it. It also doesn't overstay its welcome. Overall, I really liked this one.

The fourth, 'Mercy,' was another enjoyable one. This feels like another 80s horror movie thing. And what could come off as sexist or offensive is kind of done away for me by the fact that you're not supposed to be taking ANY of this seriously. It's called "Dreadtime Stories," for goodness sake. Anyways, Mercy Mathers is kind of a girlboss for finding purpose in her life and killing the creeps and posers in her community.

The fifth, 'Talking in the Dark,' was my least favorite. It's similar to 'A Heated Premonition,' where the atmosphere is well-crafted and the mystery of just where the story is going keeps you guessing and thinking, but the payoff is INCREDIBLY lame. There is just about nothing to really remember from this one or take away from it besides one thing: the production. The voice acting is AMAZING, full stop. In all of these, the voice acting feels so authentic and the sound design is excellent as well. I think it all stands out the most here because there's basically nothing else to note, unfortunately.

The final story, 'The Final Battlefield,' could've been interesting but ultimately fell flat. The ending twist made sense, but there could've been more to the story that would've aided that twist and made it feel more dynamic. This was also the quickest-feeling story, too. It feels like it sped by. Over 40 minutes long, but it felt like it was 20. The voice acting and production are especially great here, too.

I'll rank them from most to least favorite briefly:
'Table Scraps'
'Mercy'
'The Dark Enforcer'
'The Final Battlefield'
'A Heated Premonition'
'Talking in the Dark'

Overall, Fangoria's Dreadtime Stories, Volume 2, is a fun way to spend time this Halloween season if you're into short stories that don't overstay their welcome, with some outstanding production value and a good atmosphere. Nothing amazing, but fun!

Fangoria is well known in horror, so I couldn’t help but give this a try. Dreadtime Stories is a dramatized series of multiple short stories developed as a radio program format that was originally a podcast. It was very well performed and a genius idea as a podcast. I throughly enjoyed Malcom McDowell’s introductions. This installment was very entertaining due to the dramatization and sound effects. The stories themselves, while original, are fairly average, good but not great. I never listened to the podcast, but wish I would’ve. It seems like a brilliant idea that should’ve been popular, so I don’t know why they are no longer active. I’ve never gotten on the podcast bandwagon, probably missing out on a lot.

Okay so these Fangoria Dreadtime Stories are really growing on me! I listened to these on Audible as an audiobook and this is the second collection in the series and I absolutely loved them! The stories aren't long, and some of them aren't really scary, but they are classic eerie stories that will definitely put you in the mood for Halloween! This is a collection of short spooky stories dramatized and read by the voices of multiple voice actors and hosted and narrated by Malcolm McDowell, who has one of the best creepy voices for these stories in my humble opinion. If you always like Tales From The Crypt you should check out the Fangoria's Dreadtime Stories and make sure to watch it on a gloomy day or stormy night to really set the mood!

The stories in this volume were overall much better than volume one. The sound effects in "Table Scraps" made me a little queesy (so good job, I guess?) and "The Final Battlefield" honestly made me feel genuine upset for the main character and his PTSD. I like how the ending of that story is left ambiguous as to whether

Fangoria’s Dreadtime Stories is such an enjoyable experience. The audiobook is read almost like a podcast or talk show/radio show which gives it something unique. Each story brought the chills and the spooky ambience my heart craves. The voice acting was superb. Looking forward to the other volumes.

This was really rather good! Found this as an audible included listen & the dramatisation really upped the horror feels. Think I liked Mercy the best for pure fantasy. As another reviewer states here, you really do get a mixed bag with styles of this genre. A fantastic listen.

Kind of disappointing. The stories are a little too obvious and the audio adaptations are overwritten. All in all, a poor man's Creepshow, sadly.

Entertaining short horror stories; however being a dramatization on audible listening it was a bit gross with the sounds. The overall stories were a bit over the top horror bit still enjoyable.

A finely curated collection of stories with the Fango seal of approval. Malcolm McDowell reads the audiobook for an added thrill.

The last two stories were good, but they others were less so. The last story was actually a bit scary, and most of the rest were just scary adjacent. Not my favorite

Its concept slightly better than its execution, some of the stories are excellent and some are sub-par. Although production design is top-notch, overall this is a mixed bag.

I'm a fan of old time radio but this one was teriible for its performance, almost like an Elementary school play. 2.5 stars rounded up.

Little disappointed that Malcolm McDowell was just a host and not a full narrator, but the voice actors were great. Stories were wild and special effects were killer. Well done!

Listened to this as an audiobook, passed my car ride wonderfully. I really enjoyed the full cast voice recordings, it brought the stories to life.
