PopCap's immensely popular Plants vs. Zombies game gets another serving of hilarious, plant-filled, zombie-zapping comics! Crazy Dave--the babbling-yet-brilliant inventor and top-notch neighborhood defender--helps his niece, Patrice, and young adventurer Nate Timely fend off Zomboss's latest global attack in Plants vs. Timepocalypse ! This new, standalone tale will tickle your funny bones and thrill . . . your brains! Paul Tobin ( Bandette, Plants vs. Lawnmageddon Falling Skies ) and Ron Chan ( The Guild, Husbands ) join forces with a bevy of time-tossed plants to deliver a hilarious, all-ages romp to your timeline!
Paul Tobin is the Eisner-award winning, New York Times-bestselling author of Bandette, Colder, and many other comic books and graphic series.
Bandette, drawn by Colleen Coover, was awarded the Eisner Award for Best Digital Series in 2013, 2016, and 2017; and was a finalist for the Oregon Book Award for Graphic Literature in 2016. His original graphic novel I Was the Cat was nominated for an Eisner in 2015.
Read this to my 5 year old and he LOVED it. I was so excited to find out that there were PVZ comics! In our house PVZ is king, so this comic was right on time. Crazy Dave was absolutely hilarious. In this comic, Zomboss was trying to take over the world, so Crazy Dave and his group had to travel back in time to set everything straight. It was funny because they didn't know the plants names, so instead of calling Sunflower, "Sunflower", they called her Fred.
It was a really cute comic and the drawings were great. I'm sure we will read every issue that's released. I was surprised that my son had the attention span to stick with this comic because it was somewhat long.
It's a time-travel adventure featuring fetch quests for doomsday weapons in the past and future, featuring dinosaurs... pirates... pyramids... lasers... all that fun stuff. It's goofy and fun and finds a way to mix some weird sci-fi time travel shenanigans in with some elements of the video game to have an all-encompassing battle between good and evil throughout the centuries. Some of the humour could be a bit childish for me but I'm an adult so I'm sure it works better for kids. And even then I could still find a lot of small visual gags that I really loved!
I enjoyed this book because I like the game plants vs. zombies. I also enjoyed this book because I liked the part when crazy Dave made a sun machine that sprouts out suns super fast and made the plants super strong.
Time travel, Plants vs Zombies, dinosaurs and Crazy Dave being crazy. It was a fun, quick read and had some pretty funny moments. Just enough to make me want to read the next one, because I really want to know what happens 😅
I love Plants vs. Zombies, but this volume fell a bit flat for me. In Timepocalypse, the Zombies build a time machine and a sun vacuum. Meanwhile Crazy Dave happens to finish his time machine at the exact same time. The kids travel through space and time to recover parts from Zomboss' sun vacuum, in order to save the plants from extermination by the evil genius zombie.
I'm not asking for realism in something called Plants vs. Zombies - the fantasy aspect of it all is great fun. However I wouldn't mind a better setup than what we got in Timepocalypse. When a part from Zomboss' time machine happens to come flying through Crazy Dave's time machine, he magically knows everything that has happened by licking the part and forms the kids' missions on the spot. This just got the story off on the wrong foot for me, and I think colored my opinion of the rest of the story (which was actually slightly better than the beginning). The artwork here is stunning as always, and it's so much fun to see the plants, zombies, and even Crazy Dave depicted in so many different scenarios. The story pacing was good, and it was interesting to see the plants, zombies, and kids all change to fit their settings as they moved through eras in time.
I knew going into this one I wasn't the target audience, but the whole Plants Vs. Zombies concept sounded kinda neat so I wanted to at least see what it was all about. It's a fun romp that I'm sure younger readers will love. Good art and jokes for the younger set. Not really for older readers unless you're really into the games, but if you are looking for some all ages fun you could do a lot worse than this.
This is a fun graphic novel which has something for the adults and the children. My 5 yr. old grandson and I thoroughly enjoyed it. They travel backhand forward in time and the battle scenes are quite inventive. My grandson enjoyed just looking at the pictures of the plants and the zombies when we were not reading it. Plus he liked the zombies just saying"Brains!" in so many scenes.
I think this book was EPIC because it was HILARIOUS and it had a good story. I also liked thi idea about the time portal. The only part that I didn't like was when it started raining fireballs for no reason. YEE
I like the book because of its great story. I would recommend this to my fellow peers. the story is about 2 kids going through time to find machine parts to kill the zombies. I read this book when I was little and I still love it to this day. 10/10
This is the sequel to the first book (PvZ(Plants vs. Zombies) lawnmageddon and this book my prayers were answered because it felt longer it’s really funny and I would suggest reading it if you are a fan of PvZ I hope Paul Tobin makes more.
More silly Plants vs Zombies fun... this time they travel back/forward in time to prevent a disaster. There's more of a story in this one compared to the first, though I wish there had been more of a kick to it. Still good if you're a fan of the series though.
I got this to read to my grandson. He is absolutely obsessed with these books. The books are silly but kind of fun. Some of the humor is clever. I actually had fun reading it and it held my grandson's attention better than anything I've ever read with him
Certainly differs from the video game. Took me longer to read than expected for a graphic novel of this size but it was a lot of silly fun and I’m sure readers of the intended age group would have a blast!
The first PVZ game had better story than this. That is saying something as the original was just a theme song "Zombies on your lawn". I know this is made for very little kids but i didn't like any of the jokes or characters.
