I am a sucker for anything with the tag Wonderland on it, especially if it's about the Cheshire cat. Omg? This was so cute, and spicy at the same time. I loved how Shadow was this badass no-nonsense type of "alien" to everyone in Wonderland but as soon as he lays eyes on Alice he becomes a cinnamon roll and gets all gooey and mushy with her.
Now, can we talk about how this turned out to be sci-fi and fantasy all at once, I love it when genre mash together. I loved how the author made the retelling of this fairytale even closer to reality.
I also enjoyed how everything was even "curiouser" than the original version of Alice in Wonderland namely how the queen was a king and how the hatter was the bad guy.
That being said, it was a bit on the boring side, there weren't many characters, and the ones that we met we didn't get to see much of and then they suddenly just die and we move on. and the backstories were a bit rushed especially Shadow's. I felt like the authors were looking for a spot to paste the backstory of Shadow and they just stuffed it at the end, like some sort of recollection. And the ending wasn't conclusive like we get an ending but with not so many details, which I didn't appreciate.
And lastly, Alice, ughh. As much as I loved Shadow, Alice was just plain and silly. And so powerless. Her damsel in distress personality went a bit overboard, she's just standing there being "Shadow, I need to tie my shoe, help" "Shadow, they're about to kill me, please save me".
Anyway, The plot was good and Shadow's character was my favorite. I'd recommend this to anyone who to see some action between Alice and the Cheshire, because damn were they going at it everywhere like rabbits
