Chihiro Rokuhira's father, Kunishige is the most famous swordsmith in the land. Thanks to his six enchanted blades, the war that had been gripping the nation ended and peaceful days followed. After the war, he retrieved all six blades and hid them in the cellar of his workshop. However, sorcerers raided his home, stole the legendary swords, and left Kunishige dead in front of Chihiro. Now Chihiro wields Kunishige’s seventh and final enchanted blade on a mission to exact revenge and retrieve the swords his father forged.

As a young boy, Chihiro trained every day under his father to become a swordsmith. The two, although different in temperament, spent endless peaceful days laughing and working, but one day, tragedy struck… Now Chihiro burns with hatred and is determined to exact revenge on those who killed his father!

need this as a physical copy and fast!

i wasn’t expecting to like this so much because it is hard for me to read tone through manga sometimes but i think this started off super strong. i loved the main character chihiro like he’s so cute and i like the broody guy. i like the side characters and im sensing a found family here. in a way this reminds me of jjk in the sense of quality and how fun it is. can’t wait to continue on

Definitely a new promising shounen series. However, the story is all over the place. For now we know the story is about revenge & enchanted swords. But other than that, this was a very messy start. Not enough explanation and too much things happen to the point that I feel confused on the 'world-building' and the power system that happens. It doesn't elaborate enough in between the panels. Of course this is my early judgement for vol 1 only. Hopefully the storytelling will get better on the next vol.

But the manga art style is gorgeous!! The detail is insane. Some of their manga panels remind me of Tougen Anki art style. Overall, 3.8 🌟 I need more!

started this bc of the hype on twitter and it’s genuinely pretty good. love the art and aesthetic it’s definitely exactly the kind of thing i like. i like the protagonist too and that’s almost surprising considering how often idgaf about shounen protags. but this mc is competent right off the bat and that makes him compelling and interesting to follow. really good set up and story premise as well.

This is probably as close as we're going to et to a spiritual successor to Kubo Tito's Bleach. We have supernatural shenanigans, a young boy with a gift of sorts, secret organizations with hierarchies, and lot of chances for battles and power ups. Perhaps what I like best is that the main character isn't overly genki, immature, or cheerful and instead level headed, determined, and very focused.

Story: Chihiro's father was a famous swordsmith whose skills helped end a war between sorcerers. His famous magic-endowed six blades were then returned to him and carefully stored. Chihiro saw none of the war, he was too young, but idolized his free spirited father and was eager to learn all he could about swordsmithing and swordsmanship. Until the day rogue sorcerers came, killed his father and stole the six swords. But unbeknownst to them, there was a seventh sword made after the war - a very special katana named 'Kuro' and with very special powers. Now, Chihiro is tracking down the sorcerers so he can protect his father's legacy and stop the swords from being used for evil purposes.

There are the usual interesting personalities assisting Chihiro, including a former government agent sorcerer/friend of his fathers and a girl at a station used to gather information for sorcerers. As well, an assorted and powerful set of villains with unpredictable powers he will have to battle. There is also a powerful government organization of sorcerers who are fighting the bad guys and may help or hinder Chihiro.

The battle scenes are quite fun and remind me of what made the Bleach series. This is set in an alternate universe Tokyo that is both Meiji and modern at the same time. It makes for a more distinct and interesting world than we typically see with the usual modern setting.

In all, I enjoyed this first volume and look forward to reading more volumes. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

Decent beginning that shows some serious story potential followed up by a solid fight scene, but everything is downhill from there because the character’s facial expressions are terribly rendered, the mouths all look off, and the paneling for everything but the fights is painfully awkward, and what could have been a touching moment with Char getting dessert with Chihiro was handled very ham-fistedly. All these things add up and really hurt what could have been a solid, memorable manga. Instead I will remember this manga for all the wrong reasons, hopefully it gets better and/or the anime fixes the problems that the manga had.

Absolutely loving this manga so far, wasnt expecting to like it as much as I have. I’m enjoying the characters, specifically our MC Chihiro. But the whole cast is great.
The magic system is really cool as well, and the idea of the enchanted blades is coming together real nice.
Overall it’s been a really fun fast paced read. I’m looking forward to catching up to date with the chapters that have been released so far. Overall a 4/5 for the first volume.

From the first chapter, this manga had me hooked. I look forward to reading it every week and I can't wait to buy a physical copy! I absolutely love the art style, the pacing of the story, & the fantasy elements. As soon as there were magical swords, I was in. I also really enjoy Chihiro being a more serious main character. Can't wait to see where this one goes!

It is a promising start for a manga. I am a little lost but I hope that the next chapters will flesh out the world a little more. I did have a hard time adapting to the drawing style of this manga but after maybe two chapters I was already fine with it. We will see where it goes from here but I am really looking forward to continuing it

4.5/5 stars!!

I'm loving this so far! The world, magic system, main characters, and the criminal underworld aspect is a breath of fresh air. It's also very fast paced which makes me want to read chapter after chapter.

Also, MAPPA is supposed to be creating the anime for this which I'm stoked for!! 👏

A very promising start. I didn't have much hope for this one as the synopsis seemed like a typical revenge story.

But story so far has been intriguing and the characters was interesting. And the art and action sequences were phenomenal.

All and all hoping great things from this manga.

A new battle series! Swords and sorcery, yadda yadda yadda. Cool designs, a neat power system/world, but the characters are just ok so far.

Feels like WSJ needs a series to replace My Hero Academia and Black Clover as those come to a close.

Having just binged Dandadan, reading this feels like going backwards. Formulaic battle shōnen with untethered magic systems is pretty boring. I’ll give it three volumes if I can stand it. My expectations are low, so hopefully it will exceed them.
