After a thousand years, things are beginning to fall apart for angel Evangeline.
Her mentor is near death.
Her new boss, Marcellus, is obsessed with bronze disks and dead demons.
And Evie is feeling guilty having just wiped another demon off the face of the earth.

So Evie does what Evie does best.
And when an enigmatic albino demon with dreadlocks and a potent angel allergy reveals the true nature of the disks, Evie must do everything in her power to keep Marcellus away from them.

It should be simple.
Stop Marcellus from obtaining all the Seals of Hades
Stop him from becoming the next ruler of the Underworld.

But as usual, everything is not as it seems, and Evie is thrust headlong into a race against time; to save her own life and that of the uber-hot Julian; current ruler of Hades.
And everything hangs in the balance; her life, her destiny, and her dreams.

Nothing will ever be the same again.

I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognise that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practise given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes... I am blessed with a husband who has left me for golf. It's a fair trade as I have left him for writing. We are both passionate supporters of each others loves - it works wonderfully...

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands - I shall forever remain crosseyed.

I love talking to my readers so email me if you have any questions or even if you just want to chat...

Loved it! I have become hooked on this arthurs books. this one is about Evie a half Angel and her fight against good and evil everything she does will have a impact on those around her and all she can do is try her best and wing it plenty of action and suspense in this book as well as emotion so looking forward to the next book to see where her choices take everyone.

Retribution is the first book to the Chronicles of the Irin series. The lead character in the book is Evangeline (Evie), she is a headstrong, fierce, Kick butt Nephilim. Evie is a hunter of evil for the Brotherhood of Irin. She had always loved working for the Brotherhood under Patrick, her mentor/father figure, until he mysteriously became ill and had to step down from his role. It is so strange to Evie, to watch him become sicker each day with no cure in site, because Nephilim are supposed to be immortal. Taking Patrick’s role as master is Marcellus, a very shady character, since he became the new master there have been a lot of changes. He sends them out nightly to kill demons without question and retrieve all metal on their person. Strange thing to do seeing how the Brotherhood should have no use for anything demon tainted. Evie being Evie can’t let her curiosity of it go, she needs to know what is going on, and she has a gut feeling that Marcellus has something not so good up his sleeve. In this book you follow Evie’s journey as she tries to uncover why and what Marcellus is really doing with the metal they’re collecting.
I very much enjoyed this book. It started off with action and was fast paced throughout. Filled with twists, turns, mystery and deceit. It holds your attention and you find yourself at the end of the book too quickly, wondering if that was it and when the next one comes out! Not a cliffhanger but you are definitely left wondering… Nice and easy read I give Retribution 5 stars

A visual symphony. I love this one, it is the best of Tee's by far! I loved the fact that Evangaline is a kick ass character, she doesn't sit on her laurels. When she thinks that something is up, she investigates further and finds a plot for Marcellus, the master of the Nephilim to take over and become the master of Hades. Instead, Evangaline takes the Seals and enters Hades with the intention of giving them back to Hades, but somehow, it all goes wrong.

Marcellus is a scumbag - and so wonderfully written that I just couldn't find anything to like about him. He is slimy and creepy. But is there someone else driving the whole situation?

Can't wait for the next installment.

Angels/Demons plus Greek gods??! COUNT ME IN! And a badass female main character, too? Yes pleease!

Retribution surprised me! I never liked Angel stories because I feel like there’s already A LOT of it out there and I’m just fed up. But as I said, this one is a big surprised. I finished it in one sitting and was disappointed when it ended. Where is the book two coming out????? I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one waiting! The pacing is right, the characters are relatable and not predictable and there’s no dull chapters.

Retribution is a great series starter and I will surely check the other works of the Author!

Meet Evangeline or well... Evie, one of the Nephilim marking her half and human half angel. She studies and trains by day and is a protector of humanity and demon hunter by night.
Her story starts when her world is falling apart. Her adoptive father and mentor who should be immortal is dying, the new leader of her faction is making weird demands and upping their workload.
When Evie feels something is off she starts investigating, finding out that Marcellus is after the Seals of Hades, which pretty much would make him the next ruler of the Underworld.
Evie is way over her head... will she be find allies to help her and will she be able to retrieve all the Seals and stop Marcellus in time?

My take on the book:

I loved it!!!
If I didn't know it was part of the DarkWorld series I would believe it to be a whole different setting altogether.

World-building was great!! We got several locations Earthside and the of course, the Underworld. Both were well described which made it easy to follow along.

Character building was good! We got to know Evie pretty well, the rest of the cast was lacking a bit behind. That said it felt the groups was in flux, so not sure if we will encounter the same people in the next instalments. Well... except for one particular albino demon, pretty sure we will see him again :)

It would have been nice to have had a bit more info on Marcellus. Just to get an idea for his reasoning. Then again, pretty sure all will be revealed in the next (few) books.

Pacing and flow were great! Not as much action as what we're used to in the other series, but a good amount of things happening and setting the stage.

The book in itself was well written apart from some small errors (that didn't hinder my reading experience in any way) here and there.
There is no sex in this book (if that is important to you).

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and all in all the author has yet again surprised me with another great book, something totally different.
I'm very much looking forward to finding out how it will fit together in the puzzle that is DarkWorld

Another view on the DarkWorld, this time ( as the cover shows) from the eyes of an angelic being.

There are several types of winged beings named in the book, with another series by the same author named for one of them :-) I don't want to spoil anything!

I enjoyed the story, and getting some history on a character I "met" in another series. My only complaint (minor) is that she seems to be a bit slow. I knew something was going to happen, from what she had been told, several chapters before it happened. She also sees someone she should recognize, and even thinks about at the time...but it hasn't clicked by the end of the book. I'm not sure if I am just picking up the clues left by the author VERY easily?

Overall, the story is good, and seeing another side of the DarkWorld is quite interesting.

T.G. Ayer is a top “sure thing” author for me, meaning that for all practical purposes it will be a sure thing that anything by her will be great. That’s certainly the case with Retribution, the first in her new The Irin Chronicles series, which is set in her DarkWorld universe. Do here we have yet another superb heroine, Evangeline (Evie), Nephilim hunter of demons and other no-goodniks. Seems straight enough, right? Not in a TG Ayer novel. We don’t go for simplicity here. Shades of grey and things not being what’s expected are, well, what’s expected and as usual are perfectly handled. I’m definitely looking forward to book 2 - and definitely recommend this book 1.

I have been provided with a copy of Retribution by the author for an impartial review. This is the first book in The Chronicles of the Irin series and it was a great way to introduce this world. It was a really easy read that just dragged me into its depths and it wouldn’t let me go until I turned the last page. I really enjoyed getting to meet Evie and to come into her world and see how she would handle the situation with Marcellus. I especially liked the ending of the book and I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.

This book starts off strong during an intense battle between the protagonist (Evie) and a demon. It continues with mystery and suspense that pulls at you hoping and wondering how all this will be resolved. However, the story kinda falls flat after awhile. Evie's conversations seem immature at times and more contemporary rather than what I expected would be more ancient authoritative. Although I did enjoy reading this story and would recommend it more for the young in age and young at heart. I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I love T.G. Ayer and I love urban fantasy, so I was pretty sure I would love this one. What I wasn't really expecting was HOW MUCH I LOVE IT! You get thrown into the action from the very beginning, and there is no slowing down. I loved the original way angels and demons were portrayed. I love the suspense and edge of my seat action. I loved the characters and Evie is now on my list of faves. The world building was fantastic, as always, and the story was so gripping I couldn't put it down. I am so excited to see where this series goes!

T.G. Ayer comes up with the most fascinating stories. The creativity in that mind is astounding! Retribution is another great installment of a (hope to be) great series to add to the author's collection. Retribution is all about Angels and Demons and figuring out who is really good guys and who is really that bad guys?! The world, even the afterworld isn't always black and white.

Evie uses her common sense instead of following new orders which don’t make sense. When she stumbles onto the truth the story gets really interesting.
It’s admirable that she is so adamant to find out what’s really going on. Even though her mentor tells her not to question it all.
The underworld is an interesting setting and it’s good to read about it for a change.

Retribution (Chronicals of Irin book 1 by T.G. Ayer)

Evangeline is a strong character who is perhaps too smart for her own good. She has crack instincts that she knows better than to ignore ... more than 1,000 years of life has taught her that.

She has become suspicious of recent events and has begun to distrust ... which is unusual for this Nephilim. She has become adversarial with current leadership & at times goes out of her way to irritate them. Not always a trait of hers as she fully trusted previous leadership.

This book was well written with amazing detail to ancient Roman history & Greek/Roman mythology. I will say I caught some foreshadowing pretty early in the story but was not upset when the twists started. I was routing for the twists & turns! Now on to the next book!

[I received this book free as an ARC with hopes I would write an honest review.]

T G Ayer seems to be good at recreating the strong willed and determined independent young woman that seems to be regular heroines nowadays. Except of coure Ayer's heroines all have their own deep dark and often magical secrets and often live in a world like our own but where myths and legends and ancient cultures still exist beyond mere mortals vision.
In this book, the first of another new trilogy, the heroine is connected to a Brotherhood that is meant to protect and serve humanity. The focus of all conflict comes from the recent and sudden change of the leader. This is where an element of mystery and detective story blends in with the supernatural characters. The trio friendship of the heroine Evangeline is well characterised a they all handle the change differently and yet all agree that something isn't quite right. It is that unity and the determination of Evangeline to find the dirty secret behind the new power that leads to a kind of alliance with demons which sadly aren't as scary as I had hoped but I felt after reading the novel that they are more of a tainted mirror representation of Evangeline and her kind. More characters of a moral compass than plot devices taking it forwards. I must be honest and say that although the plot had some interesting twists I did feel that a lot of the crucial points, decisions, objects etc were a bit too convenient or told more via the narrator or openly and too easily revealed by characters. At some points things happened that were either easily predictable or just seemed a bit random.
For example, there is a point near the start where the narrator and reader observe characters instead of the heroine. In the latter half of the book I felt this narrative device could be utilised more as there was one line in the book where it suddenly became a first person narrator and not a third person narrator. In the latter half I was more curious about what was happening to the other characters introduced in the first half than the feeble challenges faced by our heroine.
The ending although fitting wasn't as dramatic or as powerful as it could have been. Even the very last line listing all the unfinished business shows that perhaps due to the complex nature of the plot the characters and story structure had to be a bit forced or set out and simplified.
On the whole there is an entertaining story to be enjoyed but I feel it does need to have more depth to it in the sequel in order to truly excite readers for the characters and plot or it may remain a tale that is too easily forgotten.

Summary: Evie belongs to the Brotherhood Irin and together with all the other Nephilim of the world she is protector to humanity, protector against evil. But evil has found its way into the Brotherhood. Someone has murdered her guardian and Marcellus, the New Master makes demands of the warriors that go against all they stand for. Demands Evie just can’t carry out.

Evie uncovers Marcellus’ plan to collect a set of special seals, but when a high-level demon reveals the truth behind the Seals of Hades, Evie know there is no way she can allow the Master of the Irin to get his hands on them. But will keeping the Seals from Marcellus cause her to sacrifice more that she should? Will vengeance for her guardian’s death be enough or will she need more to satisfy her Immortal soul?

Review:
The author wrote with such imagery that I found myself drawn into the world of demons, Nephilim and the like. I found I saw the characters as the author saw them. Following Evie's journey throughout the book was heart wrenching at best especially when she discovered that her beloved guardian Patrick had "died" but she knew he was murdered and who was behind it (No Spoilers).

Evie began to distrust the New Master Marcellus when he started sending out the her, Ash, Ling and the other Nephilims out to kill demons only to find out they were actually seal bearers. They were each chosen to protect a Seal Of Hades.

Did Marcellus want to become the Master of the Underworld? Is this why he's collecting all the metal from their kills? You'll find your answers when you read Retribution.

I love the strong heroine that the author portrayed with Evie.

Reading about these different types of beings was fascinating and kept me drawn to the story. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free for a Blog Tour in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Oh how I enjoyed this book. There is something quite satisfying about reading fantasy books. We tell ourselves it's not true but hell it could be. There could really be these creatures out there laughing at us for not believing they really exist and sometimes I just want to believe that we are not the only ones.

Evie is a Nephilim. Her job is to protect the humans from the demons.  But Since her mentor got sick things have changed. There is a new master and he's changing all the rules. He's going against everything she stands for. Evie is very determined. Once she has something in her head she doesn't let it go easily. She is also very moral.

I really liked her friends Ash and Ling. They clearly cared about Evie and their old master Patrick.

Marcellus, the new master is  evil. He has one goal on his mind and all he cares about is achieving that know matter who he hurts along the way. He is selfish

Patrick is a good man. I was sad to see him so unwell. It clearly affected Evie deeply it was very difficult to read.

Barry was a very interesting character.  Really hope we see more of him in the future.

Julian was hot. Really hot.

I found this book a bit of a slow burner at first. I found the first few chapters were quite slow and then before I knew it I had finished. I became a little hooked. I can't wait for book 2 and plan to check our some of the authors other books.

My Review~
I received this book in exchange for a honest unbiased review.
I adore the cover. I love all the covers by this author. Who doesn't love an angelic read with a half angel/half human heroine? Kicking butts and taking names is her fortay! I insanely love the strong female as a lead character. It makes for quite an interesting read, especially if she has an unique personality to boot. Very engaging read with lots of action, suspense, and turmoil! LOVE IT! Love the writing style and how this author writes is thrilling. The ending all but came too soon so now will have to wait for the next book in this series.

Typical of most of Ayer's books, Retribution begins right in the midst of the action. We find Evangeline (aka, Evie) stalking her prey -- a demon named Baltazar. Evie is Nephilim, a fierce hunter who works for an organization that seeks to rid the world of evil. Of course, as these things go, not all is as it seems. Evie is caught between doing what she has been trained to do and doing what is right. She battles loss, deception, and more than a few demons. Taking readers from Boston to New Orleans and across the River Styx, Retribution is a fast-paced story that reads like an episode of Supernatural. There are mysteries to solve, demons to kill, and many laughs. Not one to leave her readers tense for too long, Ayer does a great job of providing comic relief. And for you romance fans, there are a few stolen kisses as well.

The world building in Retribution is some of Ayer's best. She takes readers through contemporary espionage and secret organizations and then drags us to hell and back all within the span of a few hundred pages. And yet, at no time did she lose me. None of that would be possible if it weren't for the equally strong character development. Evie stands out as a strong young (well, that's debatable) woman without being hypersexualized or naive. On top of that, she has some pretty amazing wings and knows how to handle a knife.

Retribution is a quick read, a fun weekend escape sure to satisfy any fan of urban fantasy. Though it is the first in a planned series, Ayer does not leave readers hanging on the edge -- this novel stands nicely on its own.

Retribution by T.G. Ayer is the first book in The Chronicles of the Irin series and I have to say it’s a great book. I’ve been blessed to have read all of Ayer’s books and they are very good, so I was defintely curious to see if she could deliver me another amazing book and I have to say she didn’t dissapointed me.

The story begins when Evangelina, a Nephilim hunter is stalking her target, a demon named Baltazar and the moment she assasinated him she knows something is off. Since her mentor step down as the head of the organization that she works for, the new master Marcellus is obsessed in everything metal they find on their targets. It appears he is after some seals that involve the world of Hades.

Evangelina knows she has to do everything in her power to stop that from happening and decided to take the trip to the Underworld herself and talk to Hades himself about this.

I love Evangelina, she is a strong fierce woman who is caught between her duty to the organisation she works for and what she thinks is right. When her mentor is gone to her, she knows there is one way to figure out what Marcellus wants and nothing is going to stop for doing it.

This book ended way too soon for me, I wanted to continue so I could see what will happen next. How will Evangelina grow into her new role and what place will Hades have in it? The only thing I can do is to wait and hope Ayer will help me out of my mysery and release the next book in the series soon.

I received this novel for an honest review, courtesy of T.G. Ayer.

Retribution was a fast read, and one I really enjoyed. One of the aspects I really liked about the book was the mix of angels, demons, and the incorporation of Greek mythology, which is a side interest of mine. I also liked the use of different types of angels from the various world religions. It's the first book in the Chronicles of the Irin series, and I'm interested in reading the second book to find out how the story continues.

The main character is Evangeline, or Evie, as she prefers to be called. She's a Nephilim in the Brotherhood of Irin who are guardians of humanity. There are changes in the leadership at the organization she is a part of, and she soon finds herself questioning what they're being told and not told and the shift in their focus. She soon finds herself in circumstances she wasn't expecting, and realizes there is more going on that what appears to be true on the surface, and seeks her own answers. She was a character I really liked, and I thought this first book was a very good introduction to her and her thought processes. Not to mention she's a great warrior as well.

While I did enjoy the book, after I finished reading, I thought about it a bit, and felt that the ending, namely the last chapter, felt a little rushed. Despite that, I recommend this book to those who enjoy stories with angels and demons and Greek mythology along with urban fantasy. My rating is 4/5 platypires.

I was gifted a copy of the book for an honest review. The cover is stunning and sets it apart!

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and couldn't put it down, until I was finished. The plot is very interesting and complex. The characters are bold and each has their own contribution to make the story flow and progress.

Evangeline (Evie) is a very head strong Nephilim who does not take the change of leadership well. She is supremely suspicious of Marcellus, the new Irin Master. Patrick, the former Master, is afflicted with an unusual, incurable illness that has him room bound and weak. Evie discovers her mentor and father figure has been murdered by the new leader of the Irin.

Evangeline and some of her friends start to suspect something sinister is taking place as a result of the command to bring back items that Demons had on their person. Metal discs are being collected and Evie discovers they are the Seals of Hades.

Evangeline is soon embroiled in an evil plot to take over Hell by her Irin Master. By working with unlikely demon allies, Evie makes a dangerous trek to the underworld to return the metal seals to Hades. What she gets in return is undeniably unexpected.

I can't wait for the next book in the series to see how Evangeline escapes her current fate and to see whether or not she falls for the current Head of Hell.

I was provided this book as a gift and am happy to leave an honest review of my take after reading it. I will NOT however provide spoilers.

Author T.G.Ayer brings to us readers a tale of Angels, Nephilims, Demons, and the Underworld. The beginning starts out full of action and from there on it just keeps getting better all the way to the very last page. It's full of action and honor, duty, love, deceit, and betrayal. You will not believe how it ends. You will want to read more even though you know that flipping the last page back and forth won't bring you any new pages.

Evie is the type of heroine that loves deeply and will do whatever necessary to make amends for the wrong done to her and those she holds dear to her. The whole storyline will draw you in and keep you on your toes trying to figure out what happens next...all I can say is that what happens in the end will surprise you!

I am personally looking forward to the next installment.
