boring as hell and honestly uncomfortable to read. the characters sounded more like robots trying to pass as humans

The Step Don't is a stepbrother's romance with zero angst and is entertaining from start to finish. What I specifically enjoyed about this story is the sweet bond between Colin and Ash. They genuinely care for one another and have been supportive of one another their entire lives when their feelings begin to morph into something more their relationship changes and becomes something more entirely.
Overall this was a fun story and I enjoyed these characters and watching their relationship blossom. I look forward to the next pairing.

I can't quite put my finger on it but this one didn't work as well for me as the first in the series.
That's not to say I didn't like it, I found both Ash and Colin to be really well-drawn characters with their own distinct personalities and I absolutely believed in their friendship and Colin's bisexual awakening with Ash.
For me, I think there was just too much focus on the sexual activity between them and not enough outside of that side of their relationship.
By that, I mean the main narrative centred around Colin finding out about Ash's exhibitionist behaviours and then led on from there with more risky encounters in public places before an - admittedly very hot - scene in a bathhouse.
Now, all of this absolutely fit into their characters, but I would have just liked more of them reflecting on their changing sexual and emotional feelings from being best friends into boyfriends.
There is some discussion about it, they know they have a total co-dependency relationship as step-brothers, but most is left for towards the end of the book and the crisis point in their story.
Which isn't to say that it doesn't work, it very much does, they've been in their own little happiness bubble with none of their friends being overly surprised or bothered by their turn to boyfriends, and the bubble bursts in what I felt was a very realistic way (without giving any spoilers away here).
It's also dealt with in what, again, felt very much a natural progression for the two of them and I absolutely did see them having their Happily Ever After and it lasting a lifetime even with them being so young.
Overall, this was a very solid story and there were elements of it that I absolutely loved and I think the subtle set-up for book three was handled exceptionally well. I'm looking forward to that one.
This pair of authors working together is pretty much always a success for me, I don't think I've ever actively disliked one of their books.

I think I hate this idea where book 1 has step bros that fall in love then books 2&3 are just book 1 again, except the MCs have different names.
So. Book one they're nemeses. Book 2 they're besties. Wonder what book 3 has in store for us.
What, they saw the process work for one of their frat bros and decided, heck, maybe I should also look within my childhood home to find love?
I mean, sure, it's a step bros series so it was obvious what it would be from the jump but I guess I didn't expect to feel so hostile about it.
It's a no from me. This bored me.

This was, overall...pretty disappointing.
The positive are:
- Colin and Ash were good characters.
- They were, most of the time, pretty cute and sweet together.
- The sex, at times, was good. The best sex scene was the real exhibitionist scene they do at a bathhouse (do not worry, there is no touching or sharing of any kind. Others watch them together, but that is the extent of it.)
Other than that, though...I had quite a few problems with this:
- The biggest one, the absolute zero utilization of the stepbrother trope!
You guys...I'm tired. I'm tired of books promises the taboo stepbrother romance trope and not delivering in the slightest - or very little.
The first book a gave maybe a bit more slack to because it at least had two people having a problem with it, and the chemistry and other problems were interesting enough to keep me properly engaged with story to give it overall a favorable rating.
This one? Nah. The stepbrother thing was a complete non-issue. Seriously, what are we doing here? Why are these authors going the stepbrother taboo route and then absolutely fucking NOT delivering one iota of it to the story?
Colin and Ash didn't give a shit they were stepbrothers once they introduced sex and romance to their relationship. I was expecting the friends to not give a shit, as they didn't with Troy and Atlas, so why would they care now?
But the parents? Oh my god, they ALL didn't give one shit. Not an ounce or an attempt at caring a bit about them being stepbrothers. Mind you, they've been stepbrothers since they were 12 and 13. Like??
And also what made this worse than the first book was that these two had no interpersonal drama between them. They're sweet and romantic with each other, they love each other a lot - but they never fight. Fucking never. So where could we get some drama? Well, the stepbrother thing, of course! But do we? NOPE.
- They're also pretty codependent, which can be quite unhealthy at times, but did these two ever become at all unhealthy? NOPE. Was their codependence ever used for drama? NOPE.
- The ONE time - ONE TIME - they have any type of "drama" it's about a normal relationship thing that any couple - so a non-stepbrother, non-taboo relationship - and they resolve it within one chapter! ONE chapter!
I can't, it's just ridiculous.
- ALSO they both like the whole "possibility of getting caught" thing, it excites them both (even outside of just regular exhibitionism) and aside from one time when they're at a gas station, do they ever have sex anywhere very public again? NOPE. They do it at their frat house a time or two here and there, with the door open before any of their friends know for sure, but that's it.
This could have been so exciting, with them venturing into public sex and almost getting caught several times, or actually getting caught by a stranger a time or two. But nahhh, the authors play it very safe.

They just....kinda took at all the possible fun to be had with this trope and any other element that's sexy or naughty about what they like sexually.
It all just made it rather slow and boring at times. If I hadn't had to read this for my BR with Lilly, I wouldn't have finished this so quickly. I had to force myself to keep going at times, to slog through some parts.
This was also too long. It was about 330 pages of...almost nothing. It could have been about 250 pages, maybe a little less, and been a perfectly serviceable novel, with a LOT less unnecessary crap thrown in. It would have made this feel a lot less slow and boring at times as well.
As cute as Colin and Ash could be, they weren't so amazing as to make up for the lack of plot, the lack of any drama, the lack of...almost anything.
And as cute as these two were, they were just almost...perfect. Never fought, never had anything to work on, no drama between them, just all love, all the time. They had this "step don't" where they weren't supposed to have ANY secrets with each other and they took that to heart, to a detriment to any enjoyment in this, because they never kept any secrets from each other and had the most perfect communication (I know we all get annoyed with melodrama and bad miscommunication, but come on...there has to be SOME problem that they have to face and overcome, right?? Like damn.)
The only reason I'm rounding up instead of down is just because, if I take away the fact that this was supposed to be a stepbrother romance and just look at is as a sweet college romance, then yeah, it was cute, and Colin and Ash as characters were good characters, and we got a few good sex scenes here and there, especially the one at the bathhouse. So it deserves a round up.
But...at the end of the day - the title, the series title, the *blurb* is promising a taboo stepbrother romance and it didn't in any way deliver. That massively sucks. One has expectations going into that and it doesn't deliver on ANY of it.
How massively disappointing.
Just...overall, at the end of the day, this was a "meh" story. I wish I could like it more as Colin and Ash had the makings of a cute relationship, a cute story. But the authors, unfortunately, dropped the ball in big ways here.
I will read the last(?) in this series about Brennan and Taylor, just to finish this series out (and maybe it can capture that enjoyment of the first book again?) and all that. But I'm not all that excited about it and have very low expectations going into it now.

Riley Hart and Devon McCormack are back with another hot stepbrother romance!
I adored Ash and Colin's friendship, and how they both were delightfully naïve at times when it came to their feelings for each other. Their casual affection and cuddling was really sweet and I liked how effortless and natural it seemed for them to go from best friend and stepbrothers to more. There was barely any angst at all, and their story was full of sweet and spicy moments.
It took me a little time to get into the story and grasp their personalities, but once I did I enjoyed the story. Their relationship turned sexual pretty quickly, but I didn't feel like it needed more relationship development since they'd been close for a long time and already knew a lot about each other. They communicated pretty well and it was cute how they kept adding things to their Step Do and Don'ts.
The authors definitely added some extra spice to this one, and the exhibitionism was very hot! It was fun to see Ash and Colin explore together and the thrill they both got from it, and there were a lot of steamy scenes in this one.
The Step Don't was a great follow up to The Step Bet, and I really enjoyed Ash and Colin's story. It was a fun read, and I was very into the combination of stepbrothers, co-dependency and kink!

Me llamó muchísimo la atención que cambian el tipo de relación sin tener siquiera una conversación profunda al respecto. Todo muy apresurado. Tienen química? Por supuesto! Si buscan spice lo van a encontrar y está muy bien logrado. Pero ese amor que nos derrite de dulzura cuando lo leemos, yo, no lo encontré.
Me encantan los libros de Riley y el primero de esta serie me gustó muchísimo pero esta historia me resultó muy forzada.

I was really surprised that they changed the type of relationship without even having a deep conversation about it. It felt a bit rushed. Do they have chemistry? Of course they do! If you're looking for spice, you'll find it and it's very well done. But I didn't feel that love that melts our hearts when we read it.
I just adore Riley's books and I thought the first one in this series was wonderful, but I have to say that this story felt a little forced to me.

I was really surprised that they changed the type of relationship without even having a deep conversation about it. It felt a bit rushed. Do they have chemistry? Of course they do! If you're looking for spice, you'll find it and it's very well done. But I didn't feel that love that melts our hearts when we read it.
I just adore Riley's books and I thought the first one in this series was wonderful, but I have to say that this story felt a little forced to me.

This was an almost no angst, super cute & super sweet, fun kinky story! The voyeurism & exhibitionism is hot 🔥🔥, these 2 even LIKE sneaking around lol. I love me the vers couple 😍. They're cute pet daddies 🥰. There's tension with Ash & his parents, but they're good people at least ❤️ & trying.
The climax did unexpectedly get me in the feels tho 🥺❤️. Especially as the rest of the book was so feel-good! This was a fun time & wildly different from book 1. I'm excited to see more as we've set up for next book too 😆. I love all the frat bros 😂.

Ash & Colin are so cute together. I like the slow burn and the flirting in the beginning and then seeing how much Colin did for Ash made me swoon. We see the boys in the first book and now we get to see how there story unfolds. I like that the authors put in the same thoughts that couples get and seeing the guys navigate the together was good. Can’t wait to see what book 3 brings us.

Ash and Colin are incredibly together and I really really liked the kind of relationship they had over the years, easy, effortless and natural, how comfortable they were with each other. Their banter is amazing and they truly know each other very very well.
They met when their parents got together, they established their own rules to get along and they followed them through their teenage years and in college.
The most wonderful thing is their ability to always communicate with each other, even with the topic is hard to face: when Ash had to reveal his secret, there was no shame, no mocking, no harshness from Colin, he welcomed his stepbrother's truth and made him feel safe, as always.
I think Ash's exhibitionism was well handled by the authors especially about the motives that pushes him toward this particular kink, his need to be praised and wanted (things that reflect the fact that his parents struggled to give him attention and to put him first above their jobs when they should have done it).
What prevented me from giving a higher rate:
While Colin falling in love with Ash was a natural development of the closeness and the strong feelings they already had for each other, I found a little too easy for him to jump into some sexual interactions. And there were a lot of them, maybe a little too many.
Moreover, I found unlikely that they went to a bathhouse in their own city, with the high risk of being recognise (especially with the careers they chose to pursuit).
This is a very low angst college romance and I already crave the next book, Taylor and Brenner's story. Actually, the guys are all amazing and I hope this series will be long enough to give us all their stories.

The Step Don’t is the second book in the Peach State Stepbros series and features Ash and Colin who we got teased with in book one. This is a relatively low angst, MM stepbrother romance with all the cuteness and sweetness to make your teeth ache and the filthy steam to make you blush.
Colin and Ash have an unconventional bond and relationship and suddenly Colin decides he isn’t straight anymore but gay for his best friend and stepbrother. Their experimentation and acceptance of what’s happened between them was pretty lovely. They were all in and couldn’t keep each others hands off each other.
I enjoyed this but I found my biggest problem with it was how they kept referring to each other as step bros and eventually it just got well…weird. Both were well developed characters but I definitely would have liked a little more manly alphaness to one or both of them. I feel like men just don’t act like this ALL the time 😂. I blame my obsession with dark romance for that preference. Sue me.
Overall, a pretty well rounded fluffy MM read.

This book was well written, as expected. Riley Hart and Devon McCormack are such a great team together. We have a bi-awakening and its one of my favorite tropes!! I was super excited for this book, but, this book just didn't hit for me. I didn't really care for how everything went down when Colin wanted to understand why Ash was a camboy and wanted to watch so he could understand why he was doing what he was doing. Again.. the book was written well and I did enjoy it a lot until that scene and they are a cute couple. This one just wasn't it for me. I will be reading the rest of the series cause, #FanForLife :)

There is a lot that this book has going for it! The MCs, Ash and Colin are absolutely fantastic and completely loveable and the definition of opposites attract. Exibitionism and flirting with an edging dynamic adds stellar spice - the book is definitely H O T hot all caps please. The side characters are great and it’s fairly low angst. I especially loved the scene between Ash and his mom towards the end.
However the story didn’t come together for me. The transition and shift in dynamics felt sudden and were more “told” than “experienced”. There was no doubt or second guessing until the very end when the relationship had come a ways - everything just worked out smoothly - which isn’t a bad thing at all, it’s just that then the expectation I had from a best friends/step bro romance were kind of unfulfilled. I also missed a building of intimacy (which usually makes me swoon in the romance) between the two - it’s almost as if they were close as friends and stayed close, I miss the relationship defining rituals and moments beyond the sex.

If you’re looking for a spicy, forbidden, stepbrothers romance between two guys who are everything to each other, the second installment in Riley Hart & Devon McCormack’s Peach State Stepbros series is for you. This is a relatively low angst read that packs an emotional punch but also cranks up the heat and pushes the envelope just a bit. These guys seem more brotherly than in other books with similar tropes which creates some interesting quandaries.
Colin and Ash share a closeness that goes beyond best friends, extending well into co-dependence. Their special connection suggests a deep bond forged through shared circumstances and sh*tty situations until it’s clear the one person they can trust is each other. That fundamental belief is what makes it such a huge deal when Colin discovers Ash’s secret. And once he does, nothing will ever be the same.
While I liked both Ash and Colin and enjoyed watching them navigate the changes in their relationship, this story didn’t work for me the same way as the first book. I had hoped for an emotional story with a high degree of romance and intimacy, but their relationship just isn’t built that way. What starts out as physical attraction stays intensely focused on the physical, and the depth of their connection is based in the realization they’ve been in love all along. Feeling that shift and experiencing how it changes is something I love, and that was missing for me.
Where this story really delivers is on the spice and kink. Exhibitionism is a prominent part of their story, something which both challenges and unites them. Their chemistry is undeniably scorching hot, even if at times I found the risk of discovery in some of the more public scenes bordering on uncomfortable rather than edgy.
Overall, I enjoyed this story, and I’m looking forward to seeing where the series goes. I really enjoy the collaborative works of these two authors, and I can’t see that changing anytime soon.

What a fun book! I so loved the banter and just overall loveliness between our MCs. Now was this book like 80% smutty smut filth - yes. Did I absolutely eat it all up - HELL YES!! They managed to include a ton of spice without it ever feeling repetitive or boring. I had a great time reading this and flew through it all in 1 day. Can’t wait for the next book! Also not a spoiler but I have a feeling that there may be a book in the future featuring our long suffering Marty - I’d love to see that!

This book is everything you could ask for in a low angst step brother romance. It almost reads as a best friends to lovers romance but they do not shy away from the fact that the relationship is taboo and that they’re brothers. Super spicy, funny, fun read that I would definitely recommend!

We first met these boys in book one, The Step Bet. Colin is best friends with Troy, and Ash tutored Troy (which helped Troy win his bet with Atlas). Colin is a straight football frat bro while Ash is a bisexual nerd frat bro. Ever since their parents got together when they were kids, Ash and Colin have always been there for each other. These stepbrothers are so incredibly close and they both can admit to their codependency. Ash and Colin have become each other’s person. They always support each other and they tell each other everything. So when Ash keeps a secret from Colin, things start to change between them once it gets revealed.
Ash and Colin’s love story has no angst, and their special bond made it easy for them to become lovers. These two were not only sweet and funny together, but they definitely had their steamy and spicy moments.

Ash and Colin were so cute! Not to mention absolutely FILTHY🔥🔥🔥. There is plenty of steam in this one folks and lots of dirty talk on top of that. There's even a bit of an exhibitionist kink thrown in. All my steam queens will be satisfied. I promise.
I loved how Ash and Colin were totally each other's person even before their relationship changed. They were extremely co-dependent, but they were well aware of that fact. It didn't bother them so why would they care if it bothered anyone else. Being together all the time made them happy. And when their relationship changed into the steamy sort, it was even more obvious how much they were meant to be. There was instant comfort. Both Ash and Colin knew the other wouldn't hurt them or judge them harshly for their likes. In fact, their passions lined up just perfectly.
"You'd do anything I asked, wouldn't you Col? I have my stepbro wrapped around my finger."
There was only a minor bit of angst closer to the end of the book. Don't worry. No 3rd act breakup occurs and it doesn't last for long. This is very much an upbeat, steamy, stepbrothers romance. I wanted to like it, I really did. But something about it just didn’t really do it for me. I was emerged at the beginning, getting the clear distinctions between the two characters. Yet somewhere along the way they lost me.
There was funny moments and cute ones and definitely some hot asf smutty stuff. However I could stay immersed. Things here and there kept yanking back to reality.
I love Hart but I’ve had failed attempts at getting through a McCormack book. Not saying it might be his involvement entirely though. I’ve had a 3 star read with another collaborative piece with Hart and panther author that also was that great for me.

I have high hopes for their story, maybe I should though. Oh, well. I’ll still read it. Lol

Very very hot!
Ok, why was this book so freaking hot? I thought the first one was steamy but I definitely feel like this took it to another level!
We met Ash and Colin in the first book in this series. They’re step brothers and really close. Like super close…And no Colin it’s not “normal” to sleep and cuddle your stepbrother while naked. I feel like they probably had come deep feelings for each other for years but didn’t realize until now. They both mention several times that they are each other’s person. That being said, it all changes once Colin finds out that Ash has a kinky side and is a bit of an exhibitionist. He wants to try and understand. So he asks Ash if he can join in. They start to explore this part of themselves with each other. Ash has been out for a while. Colin accepts pretty quickly that he’s bi. It all happens seamlessly, like this is just an extra step in their relationship they hadn’t gotten to yet. The sweet funny banter, inside jokes and the cuteness of them being cat daddies! Perfect!

This story took me a while to settle in to until they got together. Once their personality comes through it makes more sense. Colin is an emotive character, he gets off on Ash being happy and sated. They up the chemistry as it goes along and their exhibitionism kink makes the scenes extra hot and intense. I feel we only just scratched the surface of the exhibitionism, I would have liked to see more. We learn about how they met and became stepbrothers and how their bond began back then, they hadn't realised that they probably fell in love long before they became a couple. They are very intimate with each other, and not just physically, their honesty and promises to not keep secrets adds so much depth to their relationship. Their trust is already well established which possibly helps with the dynamics together. They have great fun with the Frat guys along the way.
