USA TODAY bestselling author Sarah Morgan returns with a heartfelt story of friendship, finding yourself, and the surprising ties that bring us together.

To the outside world, Imogen is a marketing dynamo. Her colleagues don’t know that while her high-achieving professional image is real, the happy childhood stories she spins are as fake as her pretend enthusiasm for Christmas. Working 24/7 has always been her solution to surviving the festive season—until burnout leads to a catastrophic blunder.

Suddenly, Imogen is handed a holiday gift she definitely doesn’t want: enforced time off work to recuperate. Then an invitation arrives from her favorite client, Dorothy, to stay at her guest cottage in the Cotswolds. From the thatched roof to the cozy open fireplace, Holly Cottage is a picture-perfect haven… Can it provide the fresh start Imogen so desperately needs?

For Dorothy, helping Imogen offers a longed-for chance to make reparations for her own past. But as her daughter Sara keeps reminding her, it brings risks, too. Yet Dorothy knows that only a leap of courage will allow her family to grow and heal. And perhaps this Christmas, with Dorothy’s help, the new life that Imogen is slowly piecing together could be better than anything either of them could imagine…

I love Christmas books. This one was no different. You can't help but root for Imogen through the story. A heartwarming story that had a twist in the middle that I wasn't expecting; which in, my opinion, made the book better than most Christmas stories. You should definitely read the story of Imogen and Holly Cottage.

I love Sarah Morgan books so I was pleased to see another available to be read and got to it right away. The family drama held at Christmas time was set in a perfect location. Sarah has a wonderful way of setting the scenes and giving a great description so that you can see yourself there. This story was no different!
This one felt a bit off for me though. I could not connect with the main character, Imogen, in the first half of the book. Nothing seemed to happen and it was not until 50% through that anything started to make sense and I could start to understand and, maybe, like her a bit more.
There were a few spots in the story that were not completely thought through and seemed unrealistic but nothing that ruined it.
The romantic relationship part of the story felt somewhat rushed. Things sure did move fast. It felt as if it was just days from meeting to being a couple. It's too bad that more time was not given to the 2nd half of the book and cut out some of what was at the beginning. Also, events/activities mentioned at one point were not included or written about and then suddenly had been completed. Days were jumped over so there was a rushed feeling in the timeline.
I was still wondering where the relationship between Imogen and her mom stood at the end. There could definitely have been more detail to this, which I thought was one of the main parts of the whole book.
Over all it was a great story and I would recommend it be read, but I still feel it was not one of SM's best books.

Thanks for the opportunity to read this arc!!

An all around feel good festive Christmas story. Author Sarah Morgan has such a way with character development and connecting all the pieces. I couldn’t wait to jump into this Holiday read a couple months early, it’s just what I needed to get excited about the Holidays to come.

Imogen has set such high standards for herself and her work ethic has pushed her to limits beyond what one would consider “normal”. She is at the top of her game in marketing and her co-workers “think” she’s handling it all. Little do they know she has masterminded a “fake” family life including her very own loving dog. She just wanted to “fit in”.

Imogen is pushed to her limits and is being forced to take some much needed time off. Her favorite client, Dorothy, just so happens to offer her a stay in “Holly Cottage”, a remote quaint and cozy place. This could be JUST what Imogen needs.

Sara, Dorothy’s daughter is hesitant with how close Dorothy is getting to Imogen including letting her use the cottage. The shocking secrets, realities and hope is what brings this novel to the forefront and Imogen to a place she never imagined.

The Holiday Cottage has it all, even romance. I love how Sarah Morgan quickly develops a relationship to one you feel like you’ve known or seen for years. She pulls it together in a nice little bow leaving room for your imagination.
I highly recommend this Holiday read, 5 stars ! Enjoy!

The Holiday Cottage is a complicated family drama with a side of reconciliation, romance, and Christmas cheer.

Imogen is a high achieving professional marketer and a workaholic. At work, she pretends to have a social life, to come from a loving, happy family, and to love Christmas. She makes a mistake at work that results in a paid leave of absence. Her favorite client, Dorothy, invites Imogen to stay at the guest cottage on her estate in the Cotswolds. Dorothy’s daughter, Sara, is not happy with the situation and is critical of her mother. Tension ensues. Things become complicated, and family secrets are revealed. Will Imogen be able to return to her high-power career? Can Dorothy hold the family together?

Complicated family dynamics are the most compelling part of the story, but I can’t say too much because of spoilers. I will say that Dorothy is the most relatable character in the story for me because of something that happened in my own family. A personal connection with a fictional character can turn an ordinary reading experience into something extra meaningful. So I was deeply invested in this story, the risks that Dorothy takes, and the outcome.

We might not appreciate Imogen at first, but when we fully understand her backstory, we begin to understand and care for her and her well being. Imogen, Dorothy, and Sarah are imperfect characters who are relatable and trying their best. Because this is marketed as a holiday, chick lit, romance, we can trust the genre for a HEA. The journey there for our three main characters is especially rewarding.

In addition to family drama, the author provides other thoughtful poignant themes including reconciliation, forgiveness, taking risks, and second chances. There is a small side of romance and festive Christmas moments for your enjoyment. No profanity (or if there was it was minimal and didn’t bother me). Closed-door romance.

In my reading experience, the story builds slowly and the secret unfolds gradually. I was intrigued so this didn’t bother me. The pace picks up nicely as the story progresses.

Content Consideration: abandonment, childhood neglect

The Holiday Cottage is one of my favorite women’s fiction reads of the year. I recommend it for fans of complicated family drama with a side of reconciliation, romance, and Christmas cheer.

This was a heartwarming holiday read that focused on family, second chances, and romance. There were parts that felt emotional and parts that made me feel joy for these characters. Imogen has a very successful career in marketing but she exaggerates to her colleagues about the happy childhood she had, and making them think she loves Christmas, even if that is not the case. After a mistake she makes at work, she's given some paid time off to recoup. One of her clients, Dorothy, offers to let her stay at her guest house in Cotswold. She takes her up on the offer. When she gets there, this cottage is perfect for some relaxation. I loved the descriptions of this cottage and all the Christmasy vibes throughout the book.

There are secrets revealed, deceit, and life stories that are shared and this happens about mid way. I loved seeing these characters bond over things that have happened in their lives. Although some parts can be heavy, the story still was full of hope. The ending was nice and I enjoyed that it was a positive outcome. A quick, and interesting holiday read!

THE HOLIDAY COTTAGE has it all, adventure, heartbreak, great dialogue, and awesome characters. Once I started reading, it was very hard to stop! I have made it a quest to catch up on the rest of Sarah’s books because her writing is just that good. She makes her readers feel every emotion her characters are feeling to the point where they feel as if they are right there, riding along with them. My emotions were on a wild roller coaster ride from the first page until the very end. At first, I tried to read it slowly and make it last, but soon I was so caught up in everyone’s lives and business, that I was flipping the pages like a mad woman. When Dorothy confided in Imogen, I was floored. I was shocked and that’s all that I can say! What a huge secret! You have to read THE HOLIDAY COTTAGE to find out what I mean! Trust me, you won’t be sorry!

In The Holiday Cottage” by USA TODAY bestselling author Sarah Morgan, weaves a heartwarming story of friendship, finding oneself, and the surprising ties that bring people together. If you're looking for a heartwarming tale that celebrates love, friendship, and second chances, this book is a must-read. Morgan's storytelling prowess ensures that this novel will stay with you, much like the cozy warmth of a crackling fireplace on a chilly winter night.

Meet Imogen, a marketing dynamo with a carefully crafted facade of perfection. She faces a crossroads when a work-related mistake forces her to take a much-needed break. Little does she know that this enforced time off will lead her to an unexpected haven: the charming Holly Cottage in the Cotswolds.

To the outside world, Imogen is the epitome of success, but beneath her professional image lies a woman struggling to maintain the illusion of happiness. Her childhood stories of joy and Christmas cheer are as fake as her enthusiasm for the holiday season. Working tirelessly has always been her coping mechanism, until burnout forces her to reevaluate her life.

Enter Dorothy, Imogen's favourite client and the owner of Holly Cottage. Dorothy extends an invitation for Imogen to stay at the picturesque thatched-roof cottage, offering her a chance to heal and rediscover herself. As Imogen grapples with her past and present, she finds solace in the cozy open fireplace and the Cotswold countryside. The cottage becomes a sanctuary, and is a place where Imogen can unravel her tightly wound emotions and confront her fears.

But Dorothy's motives run deeper. She seeks redemption for her own past, and helping Imogen provides that opportunity. As mother and daughter, they navigate the complexities of their relationship, each taking a leap of courage to heal and grow. Together, they forge an unexpected bond, and it’s one that transcends the holiday season and touches the deepest corners of their hearts.

Morgan's prose is both tender and evocative, capturing the magic of Christmas and the transformative power of human connection. The Cotswolds setting comes alive through vivid descriptions, making readers yearn for their own escape to Holly Cottage. The characters are relatable, flawed, and endearing, and their emotional journeys resonate long after the last page.

“The Holiday Cottage” is a modern Christmas classic that reminds us of the importance of slowing down, embracing vulnerability, and cherishing the bonds that enrich our lives. Morgan's trademark warmth and humour shine through, making this novel a delightful read for the holiday season and beyond. Don’t miss out on this heartwarming tale of friendship and self-discovery.

At first I almost DNF this ONLY because it deals with heavy topics. With the work I do I try to avoid books with real life topics that are tough, but I’m a huge fan of Sarah Morgan. I’m glad I kept reading because I ended up so intrigued with the story. I did see some of it coming but that didn’t take away from the story at all. I ended up enjoying it a lot. It really captures the true meaning of Christmas no matter how cliche that sounds.

Imogen is a marketing genius, but she has no real life outside of work. She is rejected by her mom and has no family that she can turn to when Christmas is coming and her boss wants her to take a much needed break. Enter Dorothy, a wealthy client of Imogen’s who invited her employee to come stay in her holiday cottage in the country for Christmas. Family secrets are revealed methodically in this well-crafted and compelling novel about being yourself and discovering truths about others, too. Imogen’s story is a sad one of all work and no play, so when she has the chance to get out of London and spend time in the country, she jumps at the chance. Little does she know that she will find more in that little country cottage than she ever expected. The revelations in this novel come quickly once they begin and the moderately paced plot gets faster and more intensely interesting right away. I loved how the stories of all of the characters were woven together into one brilliantly conceived novel. I also enjoyed getting to know the characters, even the dog Ralph who is intuitive and an instant friend to Imogen just when she needs one. With cleverly concealed secrets and plenty of family drama and action, this is a wonderful book to enjoy and discuss in a book group!

This book is a perfect holiday read -- so sweet with such beautiful story-telling!

Set in both London and a cozy cottage in the Cotswolds, the story begins when Imogen, a hard working professional whose job is her whole world, is forced to take time off over the holidays. Faced with time to herself that she does not want, Imogen accepts an invitation from one of her favorite clients to stay at Holly Cottage. The quaint little cottage is a perfect refuge for Imogen who needs to come to terms with the imaginary life that she has created for herself yet she soon discovers more about her past than she could have ever imagined.

I am a huge fan of Sarah Morgan’s books, especially her Christmas stories and this one is no exception! I will say that The Holiday Cottage is a little light on the romance, so just know that going in, but regardless there are so many heartwarming moments. Multigenerational family stories are definitely Sarah’s specialty. This book is a perfect reminder of the importance of slowing down, appreciating all that life has to offer and cherishing the relationships you build with the people who mean the most.

The Holiday Cottage is filled with Christmas cheer and has the most perfect cozy setting. If you are looking for an emotional but sweet holiday read then this is the perfect fit!

This wasn’t my favourite Sarah Morgan novel, I’m afraid, Imogen is lonely and has made up a life for her work colleagues. There is some mystery about a client called Dorothy who invites her to stay at her beautiful cottage for Christmas. Once there, Imogen finds love and family. This seemed to touch in very serious issues in a shallow way and ended rather abruptly. Thanks to a Netgalley for an ARC.

Sarah Morgan has done it again with another superb Festive story that is full of romance and Christmas cheer.
Workaholic Imogen loves her job and as it is almost all she has in her life, she devotes all her time to it and her clients. The only relative she has is her mother Tina who she shares a turbulent relationship with. When Imogen’s boss demands that she takes a month off in December as she is worried that Imogen is overworked, Imogen is full of dread wondering how she will fill her time. Then by chance, her favourite client Dorothy invites her to a cottage in the Cotswolds and here Imogen’s life changes forever. Deceit and secrets are aplenty in this story but fortunately does not spoil the positive outcome.
My thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for the advanced reader digital copy of this heart-warming five star book.

Synopsis: A woman burnt out from work spends a month over Christmas at a French countryside cottage.
Pros/cons: I was honestly excited to get this arc because the premise reminded me of one of my favorite Christmas movies, The Holiday. Sadly, it was not very similar. While I thought the plot would lean more towards women’s fiction/romance it instead was more about family drama. It wasn’t bad, but just wasn’t the sweet holiday story I was looking for.
Check it out when it’s released next month!

The book made me feel like I was in England, and I wanted a fire and a cup of hot chocolate, even though it is August and I live in Florida. Imogen is haunted by her past and because of her past, she doesn't live. Imogen has a half life until she is invited to Holly Cottage to spend Christmas. When she got to Holly Cottage, her life changed for the better. This is a feel good book that will be a great read for the holidays. I am leaving this review voluntarily after being sent a free book.

To be honest after much skimming through the story, I ended up DNFing it at the 40% mark.

I found Imogen's coworkers to be so obnoxious. Maybe it's because I'm an introvert and am easily annoyed with those who keep pestering to know more. Geez, leave Imogen alone.

I want to start this review by thanking Netgalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing, Canary Street Press, and Sarah Morgan for gifting me with a digital copy of The Holiday Cottage in return for an honest review. I am so happy to say that I loved this book and had a hard time putting it down. Honestly, I did not want it to end. The cover is what drew me to the book in the first place because it is so Cozy and Christmasy-looking that I could not help myself. Besides, I have read other books by this author and have enjoyed them very much.

This book held my attention because it is not your typical Christmas fluffy story. I want to be clear: I am not slamming those types of stories because I love them as well. However, this story had some pretty heavy-hitting things, and I think that the author did a great job with them. I was interested throughout the whole story, and I was so curious about Dorothy and her daughter Sara’s mysterious past. In this story, we are following a young woman named Imogen whose life consists mainly of work. She has no social life to speak of, and her mother is truly a piece of work. I think Tina (Imogen’s mom) is probably one of the most selfish people I have read about in a long time. Imogen has a job that she loves and one that she is good at. Which I suppose makes sense since she does not have a life outside of work. Everyone loves her at work, from her boss to co-workers and her clients. They, however, do not know that Imogen is not who she says she is. In fact, it is rare that she shares anything true about herself with anyone. Imogen fears what would happen if people knew her real self. Imogen likes to keep her personal life to herself, so that is precisely what she does by spinning tales about her family and childhood. It appears to the outside world that Imogen has the perfect life. All things must fall apart eventually, though, right?

Imogen is a bit of a workaholic, and it isn’t long before something happens in her world, making her drop the ball on some of her clients. Her boss forces her to take the month of December off, and Imogen isn’t thrilled about it. She is terrified of not having her work to help her get through the holidays. Little does Imogen know that this forced time off could change her life in ways that she could never imagine. Imogen’s favorite client, Dorothy, hears about her forced time off and offers Imogen a chance to stay at her cottage in the Cotswolds over the Christmas Season. She is hesitant at first but quickly decides it might be a good idea because she could get away from her lonely London basement apartment.

Holly Cottage is the perfect place for couples and influencers alike to enjoy themselves and take great photographs. The cottage looks so cute and cozy that Imogen can not believe her luck. Dorothy is allowing her to stay in her extra home, which is typically a rented vacation home. The thing that Imogen does not know is that Dorothy has a reason behind her generous offer, and it does not take long to find out what it is. You see, Dorothy blames herself for something that happened years ago, and she is hoping that this offer will give her some solace from the past. The past that Sara, Dorothy’s daughter, tries very hard to escape from and a past that Dorothy is devastated by.

Sarah Morgan did a fantastic job of weaving these characters’ lives together. The way she described the setting made me feel all cozy and long for my own Christmas Tree while still being in summer. Her descriptions of the village with the Christmas Markets made me want to travel to England this Christmas. I found the characters to be interesting, and they made me feel for them emotionally. If you love a story about strong individuals, finding oneself, family, friendships, coming together, drama, cozy settings, romance, and Christmas with all kinds of animals, then I think you will love this story. In my opinion, Sarah Morgan knocked it out of the park with this Christmas story, and I am happy to say it will be one I will be gifting this year.

The Holiday Cottage by Sarah Morgan was a wonderful heartwarming modern Christmas story. We meet Imogen, who is very successful and happy in her marketing job; as she devotes all of her time to her job and clients. Privately everything she reveals to her co-workers are in actuality illusions; such having, a boyfriend, family, and a dog. Imogen had a terrible childhood, with a mother, Tina, who wanted nothing to do with her daughter, other than giving her money. When Imogen is called to the hospital to visit her mother, she is late to a work-related project; which leads to her boss telling her she is burnt out, and needs to take a break for month away from her job.

Dorothy is one of Imogen’s favorite clients, and when she learns that Imogen is taking a break, she offers her to come to Cotswolds, and stay at her picturesque guest Holly Cottage for the month, which is close to Dorothy’s house. Imogen accepts the invitation, where she will spend the Christmas holidays at the cottage. Dorothy seeks her own redemption of her past, which will also change Imogen’s life forever. Dorothy’s daughter Sara, who lives close by, with two children and her husband; as she fears that the secrets of the past, could cause a crumbling effect, if truths are revealed.

Imogene is thrilled to be able to stay at the cottage during the holiday season, and when she meets Dorothy’s family at the house, she accidently sees photos of her mother, and Dorothy’s family. Imogene is shocked, and leaves the house, planning to go home; but when she slips in the snow, she is rescued by Miles and his dog. Imogen will learn from Miles many of the truths from the past, which make her willing have Miles and the dog help her go back to the cottage, where Sara and Dorothy find her. As both Sara and Dorothy open their hearts revealing how they loved her, before Tina took her away.

Slowly, Imogene learns the truths, and together Imogen, Sara and Dorothy will forge a bond, that brings them together, as a family. Imogen realizes that her mother, was evil, and took away the family she never knew she had. Her relationship with Miles also changes things, as they both will find love; not to mention the wonderful addition of the dog.

The Holiday Cottage was a wonderful heartwarming story of family, friendship, hope, love, and discovering to cherish to their new found bond that will enrich their lives. The Holiday Cottage is so very well written by Sarah Morgan. This was a captivating story filled with many emotions along the way. I suggest you read The Holiday Cottage.

On the surface, Imogene would seem to have it all. A great job, co-workers who are warm and friendly, a caring, forgiving boss, a great family, adorable boyfriend and dog, and....oh, wait, the last three don't exist. Imogene made up to hide her real self from the world. You'll learn why as you read so I don't want to give too much away but, well, let's just say mother issues are at the root of it. Despite the stress of living a lie, she's juggling her fake reality well until, well, no spoilers, but until she can no longer juggle it all. That's when she winds up being invited to spend the Christmas holidays with Dorothy and her family (and her animal menagerie) in picturesque Cotswolds and her life changes. Of course there will be bumps in the road and, hey, this being a Christmas story, a possible romance as she finds the real Imogene.

That's all I'm saying about the plot. As always Morgan does the usual job of intertwining the worlds of three different women, all connecting at some point in time and place. The build up did seem slower than usual but, hey, maybe because that was rain falling outside my window, not snowflakes. I've got to admit, too, that while I've grown accustomed to having a multi-character viewpoint, it does take me awhile to fall into the rhythm and connect, so that may all be on me. In any case, all the holiday and family feels are there, not to mention family drama, and romance. There were some twists that I wasn't expecting, so it most definitely held my interest. The gorgeous, snow-globe worthy setting didn't hurt, either. You'll get to know the characters and Cotswold well as Morgan is a master at writing characters and places you'll feel you know or, at the very least, wish you knew.

Bottom line, if you're looking for a feel good holiday story that focuses on characters and watching them grow as we read, you'll enjoy this book. In fact, grab some hot chocolate, sweet treats, and a cozy sweater to curl up on the couch with as you read. Even better if you have a fireplace to curl up in front of but, hey, you can always use your imagination. Just don't try to build your whole life on it as Imogene did. Thanks author #SarahMorgan and #HarlequinTradePublishing - #CanaryStreetPress for this early dip into Christmas. I'm suddenly feeling the urge for a gingerbread cookie.

I am a Christmas fanatic and this was the perfect read to get me in the mood even though it isn't December yet. This will definitely be one I go back to in future years for that wholesome Christmas vibe. With that said, that doesn't mean there isn't a good mix of angst throughout this story line which definitely kept me hooked!

Imogen has always had to fend for herself and hasn't had any family except for her mother, who never really wanted her. She overworks herself to keep busy but eventually it becomes to much. Enter Dorothy, her client who has become a close friend to her and offers her the Holly Cottage to escape while Imogen is told to take a month off of work. Dorothy and her family are so kind and giving, even when some of their intentions are based on them trying to see redemption for mistakes they have made in the past. The quaint little town Holly Cottage is set in is the perfect Christmas scene and just what Imogen needed. But she didn't expect to gain as much as she did from staying in this cottage.

This story was full of heartwarming moments and leads you on a path of self discovery and the ultimate found family trope. I kept trying to guess what the big twist was going to be and I was definitely shocked. I loved how Dorothy was able to give Imogen a family after so long and how open Imogen was to changing things so that she could fully enjoy life. She and Miles were and adorable match and I am obsessed with them. If I could jump in a book to visit a Christmas town I would definitely do it here! Christmas tree farms, holiday school plays, ice skating, a town that is decked out in everything Christmas, quaint bakeries/shops, beautiful snowy views? I could go on and on, this book was just overall everything I could ask for in a Christmas story!

Thank you Netgalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for this gifted copy in exchange for my honest review!

Have you ever wanted to stay in a cottage in the United Kingdom over Christmas? You might after you read The Holiday Cottage by Sarah Morgan. It is on shelves today! Morgan is a British writer, and the jaunty British humor is welcoming–humor isn’t always present in novels.
The novel opens with a bit of a surprise that I’ll let you discover–it is definitely not like a normal sort of opening. Each chapter focuses on a different character–Imogen, Dorothy, and Sara. The main character is Imogen, who manages large scale business events. She manages a winery and is close to the owner, Dorothy. Dorothy’s daughter, Sara, has two children and a husband. They all have their own heartaches to carry in their souls which ties each character together.
There is a bit of mystery involving Dorothy and Imogen in the beginning of the novel, and this encouraged me to read further.
Each scene was filled with description, and I was able to picture all the characters in my mind. One of the descriptive, lovely lines in one of Dorothy’s chapters: “She loved the hushed stillness of these early winter mornings, the sense that the world around was snuggling down.”
Imogen unexpectedly has a month off from work, and Dorothy offers Imogen her cottage for the entire month, sensing she needs to get away from London. Without hesitation, Imogen takes her up on it.
And then the story takes a twist that no one will see coming. As I turned each page, I had to keep reading, and very rarely put the book down.
This book was like traveling to a small British village, and I loved it so much I didn’t want to leave. I hope there will be a sequel–I think the author definitely left it open for another sequel! If you love Christmas, if you love small towns and villages, you will absolutely LOVE this book.

Imogen loves what she does. Work is everything. No one in her office is aware that the pictures of her family are fake and so is her dog. When the dreaded bring-your-dog-to-work day arrives one December, she invents reasons as to why Midas can’t participate. Before long, the carefully built life she has invented topples and reality intrudes. Enough so that her boss forces her to take the month of December totally off. With her life in shambles, what can Imogen do?

Dorothy has no idea what she’s doing, but she succeeds at doing it. And Imogen, with her marketing ideas, has played a key role in making the winery a success. When they meet to discuss the latest event Imogen has planned, Dorothy learns about Imogen’s predicament. Heartache at past Christmases has led Dorothy to save animals. Since Imogen needs saving, Dorothy invites her to stay at Holly Cottage for the holidays because no one should ever spend the holidays alone.

Family is what matters to Sara, Dorothy’s daughter. When she learns that her mother has invited Imogen to stay for the holidays, Sara fears that her carefully constructed walls may crumble. How will she protect herself, her family, and her mother then?

This captivating tale arouses a host of emotions. You will laugh and cry. You will feel anguish and pain. You will experience hope and love. Although you may not identify with all the incidents that these three characters encounter, you will have experienced at least some of them. The Holiday Cottage is a romance, and so much more. It’s a story of facing yourself, finding balance in your life, letting go, and forgiveness.

Thank you so much to @netgalley and @harlequinbooks for this advanced copy!!

A few years ago I went on a Sarah Morgan binge at Christmas time. I devoured the O’Neil Brothers trilogy, and thought they were the perfect Christmas reads. Once I saw The Holiday Cottage on NetGalley, I had to have it.

Quick synopsis:

“To the outside world, Imogen is a marketing dynamo.

From the thatched roof to the cozy open fireplace, Holly Cottage is a picture-perfect haven… Can it provide the fresh start Imogen so desperately needs?”

This book 1000% delivered, as I predicted it would. The main character, Imogen, was truly admirable. Regardless of everything that she endured throughout a horrible childhood, she encompassed strength and true positivity.

The Holiday Cottage really had it all- family, love, dogs, Christmas, kids, trees, sparkling lights, fireplaces (you get the idea.) The whole feel good Christmas magic was there. Now I want to put up my tree, and I’m a little confused about what season it is, but I don’t care because I loved this book 🎄🎃

The Holiday Cottage is a fun, heart-warming, if slightly formulaic holiday story. It centers around three women, Imogen and mother and daughter Dorothy and Sara. Imogen is workaholic with a cold and cruel mother that leads her to fabricate a home happy life to her co-workers. With a (fake) missing dog and a disaster with her mother that leads her to miss a work event, her boss forces her to take a month away from work. In swoops Dorothy, one of her clients, to offer her a place to spend the holidays. Dorothy's daughter isn't too happy about the decision because it will unearth a family trauma the pair have been living with for years - but at the same time it may finally provide them some closure and resolution. The book is definitely centered more around family relationships, but does have some very low spice romance in it as well. The star of the book is without a doubt Ava, Sara's bold and fearless daughter, who as a secondary character steals the show every time she makes an appearance. The plot doesn't have a lot of depth to it, and the second half feels rushed after how slowly things unspool in the first half of the book, but if you're look for warm, fuzzy holiday feels then the book is perfect for you. A complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

My Rating: 3 Stars!
Pages: 352

This story features Imogen Thorne and Dorothy Rutherford
Imogene is a workaholic, she is able to multitasking and easily handles more accounts than anyone else- she however, prefers to keep her work life separate from her home life – actually her fake home life – as there isn’t an ideal family nor an adorable dog named Midas.
She excels at her job, but it is all she does, and she is now on the edge of burnout,
Dorothy, a client invites Imogen to her Holly Cottage in the Cotswolds, where she can stay while she is on this ‘burn-out” break - aka forced sabbatical.

I loved the idea of the Cotswold countryside and sitting in front of a cozy fireplace.
(Summer 2024’s heat wave is still going on and it is no longer “ Fun in the Sun’ – I am ready for fall!!!!

I was looking forward to this story as I read and love Sarah Morgan’s The Book Club and was ready for another ‘feel good’ story!

Imogen is a high-achieving event manager in London whose colleagues don't know that her happy childhood stories, her dog and her boyfriend are all made up and that the only way she gets through the lonely Christmas season is by working 24/7. But when burnout leads to a mistake, Imogen's boss forces her to take a month-long vacation and she has no idea how she'll get through the holidays without work to keep her busy. When Imogen's favourite client Dorothy who is the head of a family-owned vineyard in the countryside hears about the enforced holiday, she offers Imogen use of the guest cottage on her property in the Cotswolds. Dorothy wants to help Imogen but she also sees it as an opportunity to atone for the past and her daughter, Sara, is convinced that inviting Imogen is a big mistake.

Told from the alternating points of view of Imogen, Dorothy and Sara, The Holiday Cottage is a heartwarming holiday story about family, friendship and self-discovery with a bit of romance as well. The Cotswolds are a lovely setting for a Christmas book and the descriptions of cobblestone streets lined with shops and cafes, stone buildings with thatched roofs, and bustling Christmas markets with a dusting of snow made me want to visit during the holiday season. This is the 4th Sarah Morgan Christmas novel that I have read and the charming feel-good stories have all been among my favourite holiday season reads each year!

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for sending a digital ARC of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Imogen has a pretend life outside of work: fake family, fake dog, and fake plans. Although she excels at her job, it is all she does, and as she teeters on the brink of burnout, the final straw is having to deal with her mother, once again, in hospital for drink-related issues. Thankfully, one of her clients, Dorothy invites Imogen to a cottage in the Cotswolds, where she can stay while on a forced sabbatical from work. What happens next can only be described as Christmas magic.

I absolutely inhaled this book - such a wonderful example of Christmas, feel-good, and family! T first the varying points of view threw me off, but I settled in and it began to make sense and I liked the rhythm. The storytelling flows well, the characters are adorable, and I really liked the tone/setting. The romance was also lovely - just well placed but not the center of the story, so the reader still gets to see the resolution with Imogen and the rest of her crew. I especially liked seeing how each side dealt with their particular trauma and they came together to help each other get over the past. I truly enjoyed this novel and will definitely recommend it as a charming Christmas read to all my friends looking for that sort of thing!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.

I'm going to begin by saying that I've always enjoyed reading Sarah Morgan books ever since being introduced to them a couple of years ago.

Told from the three different female narratives, The Christmas Cottage revolves around Imogen, Dorothy and Sara. Imogen's life is complicated because she has made it so. She has a successful career. An absolute workaholic, she makes up a fake home life - whereas in reality, she is lonely. Dorothy is one of her clients and Sara is Dorothy's daughter.

It is after being on the brink of burnout that Imogen is forced to take a month off work. Dorothy asks her to come and stay with her at her family cottage in the Cotswolds. It is here that the story takes a dramatic turn.

In all honesty, I struggled with the first part of this book. I found that it dragged and nothing really happened. The mid-way plot twist came out of nowhere. It initially felt odd and felt like an afterthought but it was after this that the story picked up.

The setting was gorgeous. The romance was very rushed into, but then again, the second half of the book was rushed and with one particular storyline, there was no closure.

Thank you to NetGalley and HQStories for providing me with this book in exchange for an honest review.
