Orcus was such the grumpy pants ogre and so very much smitten with his human lady love. Daisy was the sunshine to his grumpy and dealing with a lot of childhood trauma and people pleasing issues. I enjoyed the self work both MCs did and their spicy relationship. The world building was fun, and the adorable semi-pet dragon was sweet as pie. Some parts of the book came off a bit juvenile, but I still enjoyed it overall.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: violence, gore, skinning (off page), murder (off page), dubcon (FMC magically and accidentally appears on MMCs cock), parental neglect and emotional abuse (off page), child abuse (off page), war, severe injury and coma, mentions of absent father, mention of cheating (not involving either MC), captivity-ish (MMC refusing to let FMC venture out to find a way back to her world), imprisonment of side character (off page), fire used as weapon

At 52% I thought the book could have been easily and naturally wrapped up with a hea. Instead, the book lasted 200 more pages. It was a freaking drag, def skimmed from at least 65% onward as everything was just so repetitive. Additionally, this tried sooooo hard to be funny. Most of the jokes fell flat or were beaten to freaking death (Jesus how many times did we get that "sarcasm dease" bit. At least 12? 30? It wasn't funny the first time and I hated by the end), overall it felt a little cringe to me. Honestly, maybe this was 2.5, as most of my positive feelings were buried by the dragged out ending.

Aw. I’m so happy I finally read this after going back and forth with it for so long.
I loved it.
The dragon, and the Trulls, and the relationship between Daisy and Orcus. 🥹
So good.
Plus the smut was hot and plentiful. Always a plus in my mind.

I never thought I’d see the day that I’d be saying that I think a story would’ve been better off as a novella then a full length novel but here we are! The overall tone of the story was too ridiculous for me even tho I did appreciate some of the humor, especially the FMC saying sarcasm was an illness and the MMC trying to give her ‘medicine’ for it. I could’ve probably handled this if it was in a short format but with it being full-length, even when skimming I wasn’t enjoying myself so I’m gonna shelf it.

If you enjoy well written, ridiculous stories with both MCs being super horny for each other all the time then this will probably be for you. 😊

I've loved Orcus' grumpy butt since the moment I met him 🥹🥹 he's perfect for Daisy's sunshiny attitude. She may have accidently ended up in his tub, but they're destined for each other.

Daisy is hilarious and sarcastic! Monster Mishap had me laughing the whole time. Not only did I adore the main characters, I loved all the side characters as well, especially Harald. This one is definitely a cute, feel good book. Daisy and Orcus have their HEA, but excited to see what else this world will bring!!

Also, tusks... enough said.

What a way to start this book!! The first chapter alone will send you on a sweet, hysterical, and spicy rollercoaster.

The story begins with Daisy, who accidentally fell through a portal into the world of monsters and landed on Orcus, the orc prince who happens to be hiding away in his cave. There’s an immediate fated mates situation and I especially loved the emotionally-tangible bond between these two. They work together to bring Orcus back home, peacefully take over the kingdom without starting a war, and also appease the Fates to avert any other disaster. Easy, right?

Along with Daisy and Orcus, there’s a whole cast of side characters that I absolutely adored. The head witch and wizard (with a sizzling love/hate relationship between then), an adorable baby dragon, and Harald, the trull willing to skin anyone or anything that disrespects Daisy. Harald is my bestie and I could not get enough of him.

There are two additional characters - Orlena, Orcus’s sister, and Maddox, his best friend. The book heavily shows tension between them and I LOVE IT. Fingers crossed for their book in the future.

Overall, I could not stop reading this book. The main characters played so well off of each other, the side characters were entertaining and helped connect the story along, and the spice was *EPIC*. Tusk sitting is officially a thing.

I so kindly received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

ARC review. (Thanks Rory!)

I love monster romance generally. I also love omegaverse, and when I saw that Rory was writing a monster romance I got so excited because her OVs are some of my faves.

This book was so much fun!! Lighthearted, steamy and just a delight to read. I tend to get annoyed by very sunshiney "damsel in distress"-type heroines, but I actually adored Daisy. The author balanced her personality so well with copious amount of sarcasm and hilarious pop culture references. Orcus, Daisy's big ogre dude, was a great hero as well. Touch her and die, a grumpy grumpy cinnamon roll. And he likes the pleasure her with his mouth! And has magical saliva! That helps with the whole "major size differences where it matters" thing!

The worldbuilding was great and the copious amounts of side characters were a hoot. I loved every single side character and there are so many of them I'd love to read more about.

Highlights:
💚 a baby dragon as a sidekick
💚 a murderous tiny trull friend
💚 a big size difference but lots of stretching to make it work
💚 Found family

If you like Kimberly Lemmings Mead Mishaps-series I think you'd like this! Similar vibes with monsters in a fantasy setting and lots of humour. I highly recommend this to all my fellow monster lovers.

I love a grumpy sunshine monster romance with a sassy relatable FMC, and this book delivered!

Daisy is just trying to get by when she accidentally falls into the world of monsters in one of the most hilarious and embarrassing ways I've ever read. Orcus is a prince who is hiding from his responsibilities and just wants the world to leave him alone. When Daisy drops into his life the two of them will have to work out their differences if they want to save the monster world from a looming war.

Rory Miles writes some of the funniest, most relatable characters and Daisy is no exception. She has practically weaponised being sunshine to get by. But she is also hiding deep hurts behind her sunny exterior. Her reactions to everything she encounters were so real, they feel like the kind of sarcastic things we would all say in such a situation.

And I love a grumpy male who is a cinnamon roll inside and Orcus is that ogre. His gruff exterior can't hide how much he cares about the world and people around him. He and Daisy were so good together as they navigate their growing relationship and attraction. It was two people from different worlds learning to trust and support each other, and they were so adorable with the grumpy/sunshine dynamic.

Of course it wouldn't be a Rory Miles book without lots of spice and heat. I especially enjoyed the creative uses for Orcus' tusks.

This was an awesome monster romance book, perfect for anyone who loves a size difference, fated mates, grumpy/sunshine, sassy characters, and lots of spice!

Smutty Monster Romance
There’s a very traditional storyline to this novel in that human FMC falls into fantasy world and ends up falling in love and becoming a heroine in some way 😁 but the quirkiness of the characters (in Miles’ usual style 😅) is what really brings this story to life! Along with the steamy smutty scenes of course!
Daisy is our human FMC who has spent her whole life looking for love and validation. Unwittingly she falls into a world of monsters which certainly leads to some interesting encounters 🙈 meeting Orcus forces her to acknowledge what she wants from life and it is to be loved….and oh boy does our massive Orc not only fall for her 🥰🥰 but worships her too (there’s a big size difference to work around)🌶️🔥🌶️ he’s certainly a protective being underneath that hardened exterior 😍
It’s only when she discovers who he really is that she realises she can become more. With the help of some interesting friends - everyone needs a Harald - she might just be what all the monsters need 😄

@rorymilesauthor never fails to make me smile with her books!
💚
Monster Mishap is her first foray in monster romance, and let me tell you, it was a FVÇĶING DELIGHT, ok?
😆
Daisy is a lonely human, obsessed with reading smůt and wishing for love. After an interesting encounter with a new toy, she quite literally falls for someone. That someone being Orcus, a giant ogre in another world. Now the two are mated, and they must navigate each other and the perils that come with Orcus's land.
🗡
Guys. This book was so damned fun. Seriously. Daisy is a feisty, monster loving gem of a woman, and Orcus is the cockiest, most playful grump. Between their banter and off the charts spice, I melted from the beginning. Hello TUSKS. Then you add in the side characters, and it was all such a riot. The trulls and baby dragon? The witchy friends and unruly cyclops? All. So. Good.
🙌🏼
Please please please go check this story out and then tell me all of your favorite parts. Here's some extra incentive:

•Monster fŭçker's delight.
•Stretching.
•💦💦💦
•Found family.
•Child free.
•Throne fun.
•Tusk riding.
•Magical saliva.

Finally

I don't know how many people know this, but it is ridiculously difficult to find a book with adventure, humor, romance, AND smut 😍 I am going to be honest, the cover is very misleading. Orcus is not the smexy beast he should be on that cover, and while I love Daisy on it, I believe she is supposed to have curly red hair, not wavy peach hair. Therefore, the unsmexiness of this cover had this book sitting in the back of my vault for quite some time, but BOY! Am I glad I finally read it!

I wanna say the smut is about 4 out of 5, which is pretty spicy in my book. I love the humor in this book and that Daisy is a bit similar to me in some ways. I always enjoy relating to a character. I must warn people though... There's no breeding in this story. I know! It's terrible! And HOW they keep from getting pregnant I have no idea. It doesn't mention magic birth control AT ALL.

Editing issues:
There were a couple paragraphs that got duplicated and blended into others but it wasn't a massive occurrence enough to become annoying, and I didn't know how to report such jumbliness so I just ignored it and moved on, sorry 😐

Our main characters, Daisy and Orcus, took my heart and ran with it from the first meeting. Starting their journey in an otherwise wild turn of events, their love story was an awesome ride. Orccus is a grumpy, headstrong—to say the least—orge that starts out rough around the edges until his softish sides are exposed. Daisy was every sense of the word fun. She had her moments of hilariousness, sarcasm, and adorableness that truly stole my heart. Even the side characters provided further depth to the story, which made my day while reading.

The plot was quite engaging in the sense that, no matter the turn of events, I didn't turn my eyes from the book! You, as a reader, receive all the awesome parts you can get from a monster romance. This book, indeed, was one of hilarious, heartwarming, and steamy fun. Rory Miles genuinely delivered with this book, and I promise you won't regret checking it out!

I am a big fan of this author so I was intrigued when i saw that she had turned her hand to a monster romance. This has got to be my favourite book of the year and I read a lot so I don't say that lightly. The characters and the situations they found themselves in while sometimes exciting also had me giggling throughout the whole book. I lost my heart to the main characters in this story, Daisy(little flower) and Orcus (Grumpy) had a bit of a rough ride on their journey to happiness having to overcome not only the differences of coming from different worlds but also the villain of the piece trying throw a spanner in the works. There are some amazing side characters in the shape of a baby dragon and a trull (yes a trull not a troll) and his mother and the ending is left where it could be followed up and develop into a series. I really hope the author does write more of these books as I really loved this and would like to lose myself in this world once more

Cute

This was a pretty cute monster romance. I loved the FMC right away, she’s quite funny. Her wit didn’t diminish, and I like that she became more sure of herself as the story continued.

This is a standalone romance, but the ending left room for more stories to told within the world. As a standalone, there has to be decent world building with a captivating beginning and an ending that leaves everything all tied up. The story had all of that, and I quite enjoyed the world building (there was a decent amount done). I feel like the author could do a lot with what she has created.

I enjoyed this right away, then the book kind of slowed down but it picked right back up. It is a cute, monster romance, and their love was quite sweet. It was amusing
watching them interact with their different personalities, and figuring out what everything meant since they came from two different worlds

I hope the author continues with the story but we shall see.

I enjoyed the book. It was a fun read and I will likely read the next if there is a follow up.

The story read a little more juvenile than I typically enjoy. It had the whole *she befriends dragons and angry creatures bc shes just that amazing* trope going.
It also aggravated me at times during the conflict because it was very obvious what was going to happen next and while I don't usually mind them if they are well done, this one you could clock from a mile away.

I loved Prometheus - adorable little dragon nuggie. I also enjoyed the playful banter between Orcus and Daisy and how she really pushed him to communicate his thoughts instead of pushing her away. I think I will enjoy seeing them grow in future books if the series continues, but I also hope that the next book has more of an adult feel to it. I enjoy playful moments and laughing when reading, but it felt forced and over done at some points.

He definitely wasn’t expecting that…

By the end of the book, I will definitely rate this 5 stars. The beginning of how Daisy landed in Orcus’ world, was, uh, a bit weird… to end up sans clothing and in such a vulnerable position in a place you have no idea where it is, and uh, in such a position with a monster you had no idea existed… well, she took it really well. But once the characters and story developed, I couldn’t put it down. Orcus, the reluctant Grumpy MMC needed Daisy, the sunshiney wounded FMC, in order to grasp his true place and calling. They helped balance each other. The side characters were little stabby buckets of fun along with an excellent girl power mage. Lots of spice, and a creative way to use those tusks. In the end, Daisy found a place to belong. Forget the slight cringeworthy beginning entry moments on how they met, and I loved it.

This story was definitely different from what this author usually writes but I loved it! It was cute, with some drama, but at the heart, it was about love. Daisy and Orcus were adorable together and I loved that they brought out what the other person needed. Daisy needed friends and a family. She needed love. Orcus had love in some ways, but in other ways, he needed the sunshine that Daisy provided. He needed someone who told him he was enough, that he could make a difference, and he didn't need to keep doing the way things have always been done. He could change things for everyone if he had the courage to stand up for what was right.

Compared to the monsters, Daisy is pretty small, but she is big on personality and she wins them over by treating them fairly and kindly, which no one had ever really done before. I would love to read more stories in this world.

Thank you, Rory, for the opportunity to read an eARC of this. Here's to your first monster romance. This is pretty amazing!

Daisy is just like the readers, loves romance, and in particular spicy reads. From the first chapter on, I fell more in love with Daisy and Orcus and all of the amazing side characters. The chapter titles had me in a chokehold, and the hijinks that happen are flat out hilarious.

Monster romance paired with one bed, forced proximity, fated mates, and size difference all come together for a fantastical story of mishaps.

4.75 out of 5 stars (a map would have been a fantastic addition), and 4 out of 5 🌶 for the spice level (consent and prep care make things even better).

Oh my goodness. This latest release by Rory Miles was an absolute hoot! It was super spicy, definitely fast burn, grumpy sunshine, and so funny.

I loved Orcus and Daisy. Their banter was perfection and the way she made him be able to be his true self was so sweet. I enjoyed Daisy's unwavering optimism even when it made her make some foolish choices.

Rory hit it out of the park with the hilarious cast of side characters. I adored Harald, Lagertha, Zyla, Prometheus, Orcus' sisters, and his mother. Like they were all so wonderfully lovable.

I can't wait to see where she goes next with this series! This was a great book, I'd highly recommend it.

I received an ARC copy of the book but I'm leaving this review voluntarily.

3.5 ⭐️

This story actually has a good plot! When I started reading it I didn’t realize how long it was bc I mistakenly assumed it was a monster smut book that didn’t have a big plot line. I was wrong. Don’t get me wrong there’s lots of monster 🌶️ (which the author fully warns about at the beginning) but I also enjoyed the story line. I liked the characters and side characters. It had a great round family theme. And yes this is instant mates BUT they don’t automatically fall head over heels for each other. They actually build their relationship which I really appreciated. I was honestly torn between 3 and 4 stars. I was disappointed to see there aren’t more books in this world yet, that’s how much I enjoyed it!

I absolutely loved this book honestly couldn’t put it down - I can admit I was up into the very wee hours reading, it was that good y’all
Daisy is such a perfect FMC, love her determination and personality, oh and can’t forget her sarcasm.
Orcus is the crown nice and next in-line to the throne.
We see them overcome many obstacles and watch their relationship blossom. Along the journey Daisy makes many new friends in her new world.
I was fascinated by each of the different characters, especially stabby Harald and his mum - total favourites of mine.
The steamy scenes are hot AF, honestly 🥵🔥
Overall a fantastic book and will definitely read this again

Daisy and Orcus have become two of my favorite characters! It is a great mix of a sunshine character and the grump that will habe you laughing until your stomach hurts.

This gives you plenty of steam while bringing a level of uncertainty while the events unfold. Daisy becomes her own woman in this book and befriends some interesting monsters that everyone else seems afraid of. I love the twists that are thrown our way while trying to determine what will happen next.

This book will also bring you tears towards the end, both a mix of happy and sad. This is a must read that you won't want to put down!

This was a funky, sexy, and fun story that made me laugh out loud. I loved our female main character Daisy and her sunny disposition on life. I love how the book is allowed to be a little silly, and not take itself too seriously. Orcus is a lovely grump, and I love how protective he is of Daisy. Also, I thought it was great that Daisy just gathered so many people around her, and somehow survived when she definitely shouldn’t have. I think that the smut was amazing (if you're into monster peen) and I think it showed a relatively healthy relationship. I would definitely recommend this book if you want a fun and sexy time.

Brilliant read.
Daisy and her new roommate are trying to find their grove.. but considering he's an old man with Alzheimer's who thinks the world is out to get him, leaves Daisy playing along and wanting an alternate reality. So guess what she takes a minor break to focus on herself and ends up falling down he rabbit hole, landing awkwardly to say the least. Daisy's world is about to include the unknown. But luckily for Daisy she can charm everyone even the monsters she comes to face.
Brilliant read.

Omg I literally cracked up all the way through reading this book!! It was so funny.

Daisy (FMC) ends up in a new world after she gets there by unusual circumstances (lol) and her landing there had me dying laughing too (lol). That kicks off a caper where Daisy meets a grumpy Ogre - Orcus and gets drawn into all of the complications related to him. Witches, Dragons, Vampires, Trulls (not Trolls lol) and all sorts of interesting characters. It was a brilliant read that I loved reading. I'm looking forward to the next book now.

Am I attracted to this? No….wellll. This book had me dying laughing and crying in sorrow. When Daisy um…rides her way to a different world, she gets her world rocked. Literally. Orcus is the epitome of book boyfriend….just like 12 feet tall and green…with husks. From the jump I knew I’d love this book because Edgar was crazy. Not to mention the whole mailman scene… dying laughing. As the book goes on, my attachment only grew. Seems a coming thing with daisy as she gains followers and friends throughout the book. Walked into this blind, but a definite 10/10 would recommend.

A delightful grumpy/sunshine monster romance! Though different from the usual genre I pick up from Rory Miles, I found Monster Mishap to be just as enjoyable. The characters were well fleshed out, the romance was lovely and nailed its tropes, and the atmosphere of the whole novel was rather light and easy. I wasn’t quite head over heels for this one, and I wouldn’t call it a new favorite, but it was good and I would definitely read more in this world—and of course more by this author. If you’re looking for a quick, sweet monster read, I’d say this one is worth a try :)
