Taro Sakamoto was once a legendary hit man considered the greatest of all time. Bad guys feared him! Assassins revered him! But then one day he quit, got married, and had a baby. He’s now living the quiet life as the owner of a neighborhood store, but how long can Sakamoto enjoy his days of retirement before his past catches up to him?!
It's an assassin showdown! Shishiba and Osaragi take on Yotsumura and his geisha on the streets of Kyoto. What happened between Shishiba and Yotsumura in the past to sour their strong mentor-disciple relationship? Meanwhile, chaos engulfs the JCC as the battle between Sakamoto and Kanaguri comes to a head!
Well that was anticlimactic, they just won? I hope so because we went back to a fight with characters I forgot about. Then a flashback? I don't know the characters are just there and not using names I read before. I need markers over all these characters so I know who is who - especially during flashbacks when they really don't look like they do "now".
Now onto the next town for a fight, wait no, they went back to the store where the store is doing great without assassin fights breaking out constantly, thank you very much. This part of the story was to brief but saved the volume from lower stars.
Sakamoto Days is a very fun manga series which is a mix of John Wick-esque actions movies and slice of life comedy. I love how it turns the TV dad trope on it's head with its way over competent main character Taro Sakamoto. As the series continues it tends to get away from the slice of life comedy of the first volumes and focuses more on the action movie inspired content with it's much larger cast of characters and more complex plot.
The JCC Arc finally ends. Pretty much the peak of the manga at this point, as it feels like it's the most Suzuki-sensei has gone toward making a "real" story. Not that the story-less action in previous chapters / arcs is really "bad" by any means, just that I'm glad there's more going on beyond just People Fight.
Wow this vol was so good! Also what a horrible way to end this volume 😒 esp considering I have to wait till sep 3 for the next volume
This will never happen but it would be so cool to see suzuki adapt Jade city in manga form! I think his art style would work so well with the fight scenes of Jade city.
I really feel like I have lost the plot on this one. I still like it but I feel like I almost need to go back to the beginning before the last one comes out. So many shifting alliances and since every character is an assassin I feel like they are lying a lot of the time.
I like how they put a recap at the front of each volume at least.
4.25/5 In this volume, we finally get some answers about what really happened with Amane's family. This builds out the story of the JAA as well. I appreciate the character growth and development that has been a part of each volume as the story progresses. It's clear the mangaka has a strong overarching story that we continue to build toward.
There were a lot of intense moments in this installment as the arc came to a close. It pulled out the classic shonen trope of "messed up childhoods make great drama." From there, the reader learns a bit more about X and then its finally time to get back to the shop and check-in on everyone.
i stopped at ch 106 bc it’s sakamoto’s backstory after that and idk if i can emotionally handle it 10/10 i love the found family trope this man just keeps adopting more and more kids
FINALLY GONNA FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN UZUKI AND SAKAMOTO. nagumo is playing a dangerous game and i wanna know what his deal is, still love him though. i’ll miss seeing natsuki regularly :(
