Fated to the Wolf Prince

Great Pack Gathering. Three little words, one mandate that ruined my life.

I'm a doctor and a researcher. My pack is small, in a quiet part of central Texas. It's a simple existence, and I like it that way. It's just me and my two besties, living our best single lives.

That is, until the mandate comes. Every unmated wolf in the entire world, called to one place. I'm a psi, the weakest designation there is. I can barely shift, and there's no chance of me getting matched—only humiliated.

It can't get worse, until it does. I've barely made it off the bus when I lock eyes with the hottest wolf I've ever seen, and he reeks of power. There's no way he'll be interested in me, a psi wolf who can barely hold her shift.

Until my wolf starts acting crazy, my magic goes on the fritz, and I'm suddenly wielding way more power than a lowly psi. Goddess only knows what's going on, but there isn't much time for me to figure it out.

Oh, and there's one more little thing. Mr. Hottie McPowerful? He's the prince of the shifter world, and my fated mate, whether he wants to be, or not.

Fated To The Wolf Prince is the first book in the Hunted Omegas series. Best friends Brielle, Shay and Leigh are ordered to attend a Great Pack Gathering for all unmated adults. Brielle can barely shift, and is designated as a psi wolf at the bottom of the pack totem pole, so she isn't expecting much from the gathering. But then she meets the High Alpha's son, Kane, and her wolf has other ideas.

The series will have an ongoing central story arc, but a new main couple and romance in each book. Ahhh, this is my favourite type of series. I love it when there's a strong plot that runs through multiple books, but where you get to fall in love/lust with a new couple every time!

Sometimes you just need a shifter romance, and this book delivers! I have read shifter romances with similar stories before, however this one was just superior in every way:

1) An amazing main character - she's smart, strong and honest. Brielle doesn't whine about her situation, she just got on with her life and made the best of it.

2) Brielle, Shay and Leigh are all supportive, ride-or-die friends with their own stories and fleshed out characters. I love their relationship and am invested in their books already!

3) They communicate!! I never thought I'd see the day but there's a couple that actually talk about their feelings. There's a few instances where they have an argument, but there's no long-drawn out separation - when they see each other, they talk and explain what they're feeling and they apologise. I hate a miscommunication trope so I was overjoyed at this. Above all, it made them feel like real adults. I've read other shifter books where it's tantrums-galore and it reads really immature. But Brielle and Kane act like the adults they are and I love it.

4) The plot isn't just there to cause tension between the characters either and there are lots of breadcrumbs left ready for the sequels, and I can't wait to see how the overall plot develops for Brielle, Kane and the pack, even while Shay and Leigh (I hope) take central stage in the sequels.

5) It's just so well written, and it sets it apart for me. This book gets the right mix of plot, romance and spice. The pacing is perfect, the main and side characters are all interesting and it was just so easy to read.

If you fancy a shifter romance, I would absolutely recommend this series! Also, Amazon is showing both Fated to the Wolf Prince and Fated to the Feral Wolf (the upcoming second book) as coming to Kindle Unlimited upon release!

Disclaimer: I received an ARC from BookSirens, but this is my voluntary and honest review.

The good:
Spice was good. Not too much. Lots of longing with a good payoff.
BFFs were amazing. Found family with great energy and emotion that was amazing.
Good hero and good heroine.

The meh:
He steps on every one of her insecurity triggers. And most of the time, they don’t discuss his concerns or her insecurities. He just says she’s his everything and she’s like that’s cool. It just felt incomplete.

Out couple gets some resolution but
Ends on a cliffhanger that sets up the next book and the next couple

Fated to the Wolf Prince is a very past-paced story - you dive right into the action and things never really slow down for Brielle, Kane and their friends. The main storyline is not resolved within this book - so be prepared to read the next two books in the series as well if you need closure.

While it is not the best written book I've read, I couldn't put it down. The characters and their relationships are great. There are some mysteries left to explore... I'll definitely pick up the next book when it drops.

The instant love in this book took a moment to get on board with, but the whole fated mayes thing gave some comfort in the matter. The connection between the two main characters was sweet, what was truly engaging in this book though was the multifaceted relationship between the main characters and the many plot pieces going on at the same time. Lots of intriguing problems, a diverse magical world with many questions left unanswered pulling you in for all the books to come! I’m actually super excited to see what happens next! The banter and connections developing are fun and there were many laughs to be had and even more theories to build!

I am not totally sure how I feel about “Fated to the Wolf Prince.” I liked the premise, and the execution in terms of plot was decent. The writing, however, felt fairly unpolished. I believe this is April L. Moon’s debut novel, and you can tell. It felt stilted in some places and too informal in others. There were plot points left unexplained that don’t lend themself well to being concluded in later books, and I was confused about some of the history in this particular universe.

3 stars and I would probably still read the next book in the series. Thanks to BookSirens for a complimentary ARC of this book. These opinions are my own,

jesus christ this book annoyed me. it was fine at the beginning and the writing style was fine (if a little simple), but holy goddamn did the main character bug the absolute shit out of me.

literally every few chapters she found a random reason to get her feelings hurt because she listened in to someone's conversation and then took something out of context and ran off crying. and as you got towards the end and it was absolutely ridiculous.

also, it felt like plot threads got dropped a lot. like maybe i skimmed past it but

all in all, wasn't a fan. i expected something cheesy and light, but this was lowkey just a waste of my time.

3.5/5.0

This story is good, the world is interesting and it kept my attention throughout. There are very, VERY (in fact I can’t think of any) tropes that I hate worse than the “I’m sick and dying so I can never have you” that lasted through over half of it, though. GAH!! If I had known that was part of this story, I would have definitely stayed away. Luckily, however, the rest of the book was actually really engaging.

Yes, there are some noticeable holes, like why in the heck didn’t anyone pursue the fact that they saw the nasty witch magic near the very first of the book but absolutely nothing was done about it… at all?! That seems to be the main point of the problem. *sigh* Guess it was more important to get another book out of the question… but still, don’t expose the answer then just forget about it!

Still, most of my annoyances are (as you can see) personal in nature, so I would still recommend this book. And, I plan on continuing, as well. That should say more about the overall story than any of my moaning could!

Pretty disappointed

I love the fated mates concept a lot, but just because they’re fated mates doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have a connection at all. Brielle and Kane barely talked and when they did it was usually Kane being a douche or being really sappy- no in-between. Real relationships aren’t like that. All the characters needed more fleshing out and there were plenty of spelling/grammatical errors. The world April Moon built was beautiful though and I think with extra time put into the book it could be great, but I don’t think I’ll read the rest.

This book had no real substance besides fated mates, overly confident and shy best friends, and an Alpha who can’t have a weak mate but then changes his mind because storyline.

I really thought I was going to like this but there was a lot of areas that kinda just didn’t work - Dad Alpha dying and then a murder mystery plot???? Brielle accepting a fight for mate rights and then when it comes around, the fight is like 1 page???? There were too many things in this book that just didn’t work sadly.

I won’t be reading the next two books in the series, Shay and Leigh can find their mates and live happily ever after, whatever.

Some aspects of this world just did not make sense.

At one point it’s stated that they’re wolves, so nudity isn’t anything special, but it is obviously is. It’s a big thing for Brielle and Kane seeing each other nude, she tries to cover her nudity with a towel, he gets angry at others seeing her nude since that’s for him.

Also if their clothes literally tear when they change into a wolf, then how do they wear wedding rings - the rings would either break or their finger would. They’re not mentioned to be magical.

Also how can you have a world with fated mates but also the ability to challenge one’s fated mate to the death for mating rights? Why are you able to go against fate’s decree? How can someone possibly get over their fated mate’s death and then be with the person who killed them? That part made no sense to me.

I also think this book suffered from having too many plot points. It seemed like it would just be about finding the fated mate of the Prince, then it would also be about Brielle being an omega, but then we kept adding more and more plot points so none of them were really developed and just put to the side. The omega defence league want to kill her, how is that not high on the priority list. There’s an assassin roaming free - how do we not know he’ll kill Kane?? Why are we not worried??

PROS
- interesting points and actions continue to happen so you don’t get bored
- side characters are fun and I look forward to reading Shay’s book

CONS
- there wasn’t any character building. I have no clue the personalities and views of the FC and MC. Are they liked, respected, feared? Were they bullied, did they have a rough upbringing, do they have any type of personality? Unfortunately, because of this, the main characters were kind of blah and didn’t have any chemistry with one another.
- the writing was kind of elementary and wasn’t smooth. It felt choppy and each problem that the couple had to face it was addressed and solved easily.
- why have games to meet mate when all they need to do is talk briefly and shake hands to determine if there is a mate bond.

It was fine. It was super short for all the elements introduced, but didn't answer many of the questions it asked. I was super annoyed at the pack rule that if a fated mate pairing hasn't been sealed aka bitten, someone can challenge for mating rights. It just feels like a cheap plot device to create conflict and doesn't really make sense. I'm curious about the rest of the trilogy (even if the FMCs of the pairings of the next two books aren't omegas), but I'm not sure I'll continue it.

Tropes: fated mates, found family, touch her and die

She could deny me, or she could make my dreams a reality. But either way, I was hers. Even were she to reject me, there would be no other for my wolf.

4.75 stars!

I did not expect to love this book as much as I did! As much as neither Kane nor Brielle wanted a mate, they couldn't help but be attracted to one another as soon as Brielle arrives for the pack gathering. I loved the instant sexual tension that bloomed between them, even as Kane seemed to put his foot in his mouth at every opportunity as he struggles to reconcile his fated mate with the woman who cannot even hold a shift. Brielle has been led to believe that she is a psi her entire life, but the more time she spends around Kane, the more she discovers her hidden strength and resilience.

I loved watching Brielle prove everyone wrong, especially her mate, as she fully comes into her own confidence. Kane wasn't afraid to grovel before his mate after his many fuck-ups, and ultimately their mate bond was unfaltering and so steamy. There was plenty of twists and danger to keep me reading, and the ending left me ready for the next book!🖤

Tropes: fated mates, hate-to-love-you, obsessed hero, girl-next-door heroine, forced proximity, 'touch her and die' vibes, hidden powers, rejected mates, 'you deserve better than me' vibes, pack politics, girl gang, found family, STEAMY🔥

Firstly, not a cliffy.
While there are some ongoing story lines into the next book that involve this couple, their romance is complete and happy.

The epilogue contains a teaser for the next couple and their book.
If you don’t like teasers, don’t read the epilogue.

Tropes: touch her and die
Cinnamon roll hero
Found family besties
Insta lust-not love
Sassy bestie (slightly immature, but whole lotta fun, strong, loyal, loving)
Quiet intense bestie
One moment of TSTL

I really enjoyed this, the dialogue was fun, flowed well, the characters were easily separated for the most, and had a decent plot.

Cons: early on was sometimes confusing who was talking.
While I’m greatful not to have bragged out angst, the conflict could have been delved more, rather than solving, only to find a similar one a couple chapters later, repeat.

Would benefit from a thorough edit. Contains several repeats early on, but does smooth out in that regard later.
Also, lacks some depth and description in areas.
Lastly, missed some obvious story telling areas that would have been more informative, and added more movement to the plot and relationships (example, more focus on the games, rather than resolving the personal issue and skipping them.).

That TSTL moment (the challenge), seriously needs editing 🥱

I’am interested in reading B2.

I did not go into this book expecting greatness but dear God almighty did this piss me off. This book was loaded with potential but it suffered from poor written characters, shoddy world building, and too many tangential plots.

Characters

- The FMC Brielle has got to be the single most annoying character I have ever had the displeasure of reading. She was whiny and always seemed to look for a way to get her feelings hurt. Her wolf is also incredibly weak due to some sort of curse and as a result she’s not able to hold her shift for longer than a few minutes before collapsing into a seizure. Despite that, she thinks it’s a phenomenal idea to accept a challenge for her mate in which she’d have to fight to the death IN WOLF FORM. She then acts shocked that Kane (MMC) thinks her decision was stupid and refuses to speak to him for days on end. His dad gets murdered and he sends her back to her room with a security detail to keep her safe and she acts like he slapped her. Not like there’s a murderer on the loose killing werewolves or anything.

- I don’t have a lot to say about the MMC Kane other than it was really weird how he kept throwing it in Brielle’s face that she’s weak when they would argue even though he’s well aware that the magic that powers her shift has been tainted by a curse. Not very lover boy of him at all. Beyond that we know nothing about this man other than the fact that he growls a lot and chooses to run around behind his idiotic mate and punch wooden boards instead of finding the person who killed both of his parents although he swears that’s a priority.

World building

One of the major plot points is that while Brielle has been told she’s a psi wolf her whole life all signs point to her actually being an omega. Omega wolves are meant to be extinct because centuries ago one (1) omega got power hungry and tried to take over the world so after taking her down the shifter community developed a coalition of non-wolf supernatural creatures called the Omega Defense League 🙄 and their sole purpose is to test the magic of all newborns and kill the ones with omega magic. The author never explains why nobody thought it was possibly a bad idea to kill a bunch of babies because one lady went crazy.

It is implied that the werewolves in this universe live for a few centuries and are not affected by disease. The high king was actually around 500 years old I believe. Brielle’s mother is an outlier because she died from a mysterious illness very early in her life span. She became a doctor specifically to research why that is. However, it is said that her research is hard because so few wolves are willing to provide samples because they don’t want the humans to get wind of it and come poking around trying to do their own research. Later on in the book though, she says that it’s not uncommon for wolves to mate with humans when they can’t find their mates. I find this doesn’t mesh with what we’ve been told because why would you mate with someone you’re going to outlive by several hundred years? Also, how have they escaped the poking and prodding from human scientists if they are frequently intermingling with humans? Maybe it’s just me but I can’t square that with what the author has told us about the wolf kind in her universe.

Too Many Plots

This book was essentially supposed to be about an undercover omega discovering herself after meeting her mate and yet every few pages another tangential plot was thrown at us. One of the side characters gives birth during the book so the baby has to be protected from the ODL. The high king of alpha’s who is also the MMC’s father is killed by poison and they’ve got to hunt down his killer. The ODL also get a random tip about an omega on Kane’s land and come investigating and said tip was called in by one of the high king’s friends when there was no way for him to know an omega was there. Brielle is apparently cursed. (I consider this a tangential plot because to me it read like her wolf would become stronger by mating with a much more dominant wolf and not that she was being held back by a curse) One of Brielle’s best friends is in some weird situationship with Kane’s second and a lot of time is spent on it to the point it becomes a secondary plot when she starts going into heat. There was simply just too much going on in this one book and I feel like a good chunk of it just wasn’t needed.

childish

Both the main characters' personalities were virtually non-existent.
Kane
-alpha wolf
Growled a lot
-said many times his mate was too weak to be mated to him (but he loves her), and that's about it.
Brielle
-psi wolf (omega maybe?)
-super weak (said a LOT)
-a doctor, but the only way the author shows that is with a side character having an issue while in labor and she takes her blood pressure, feels the belly, then uses some new magic.

It was predictable from about 6 or so chapters in.
It was mentioned many times that Brielle was suspected of being an omega, but we still don't know for sure.
The magic was mentioned many times, but nothing happened with it except setting up an appointment with a shaman in the future (not in this book).
-mysterious powers, "ooh that's cool/different" never mentioned again
-mysterious strength, "amazing" never mentioned again
-mother died of terrible disease/illness, nothing actually resolved or figured out
-assassination of royal, "so sad and unbelievable"-left unsolved and seemingly unconcerned

I barely enjoyed this enough to finish this book. I'm absolutely not continuing the series.

I didn’t mind this story, but the writing was pretty juvenile. The main characters are supposed to be 27 and 30 and they come off as high schoolers. The writing seems like maybe the author is new to writing? There is a lot of telling rather than showing. I don’t know it just didn’t feel 3D to me, everything was kind of flat. I also didn’t care for the main characters or their relationship, but I’m more interested in reading about Shay and Dirge. I’m not sure if I’ll keep going with the series though.

This is the same as every other wolf shifter romance.
Lowly girl with no power or money mates with big alpha rich power man child.
But surprise! Girl is actually super special, rare and more powerful than anyone could imagine. She’s a diamond in the rough.
Not everyone likes that this girl is special and they hunt her down. Girl in danger. Oh no.
Mating happens. You’re supposed to swoon. I did not.
Suspense happens. Now you wait for the next book in the series. Don’t worry, it’s more of the exact same except different super special girl. Rinse and repeat.
You’re welcome.
