This is a sweet, simple little book dedicated to libraries and why they’re great.
I love how inclusive the words and illustrations are, and how they go way beyond just books in terms of depicting what libraries do.
Thanks to Netgalley for the EARC! It’s out in June.

The Library is one of my most cherished memories growing up! It’s where my passion for books and a love of the adventure that every book can bring. It was my sanctuary, my safe place. Still to this day books are my calm when my world is full of chaos, and it all started when I was very young and going to the library. I was a lucky kid because my parents loved the library and we were taken even as infants and shared their love of the library. Reading was an adventure and a passion to everyone in our family, even now. This is why the library means so much for me.
This book is the perfect book lovers tribute to our precious libraries. The author, Lisa Katzenberger, captured our feelings perfectly. Every page brings me a flood of emotions and memories. The thank yous are exactly how I feel and they express some of the thoughts and favorite things about why we love our library. The illustrations, created by Rob Sayeigh Jr., are colorful and bright. They do an amazing job of showing the diversity of people both young and old who love their library. Each picture enhances the thought on the page. I even found some favorite thoughts like “for taking me on adventures from the seas to the stars”. Especially “little books made for little hands.”
I can’t say enough about how wonderful this book was for me. It’s a perfect gift for any book and library lover. It also makes the perfect gift for your favorite librarian, they are what makes the place magical.
Thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Kids for allowing us an ebook ARC of this book. We had to rush out and grab one for our home library as fast as we could. Your book loving family will love this book for all ages. Enjoy this adventure with your family!!

Lisa Katzenberger’s A Love Letter to My Library is just that.

This is the sort of book that I think every kid should read and experience all those good feels from. It’s very simple and it’s not the kind of book that you give to teach reading skills nor is it the type of book that immediately makes itself known to you as one with a message. A lot of children—and probably adults!—might have to sit with this one for a bit.

But the truth is that this book has one of the best messages that it ever could—that of encouraging learning and growth and gratitude for the opportunities, people, and communities that offer those things. Personally, those are values that I think should be instilled in everyone from a very young age and therefore I’m honestly of the mind that this should be required reading for just about any Pre-K, Kinder, and 1st-3rd grade class.

The artwork is beautiful and engaging and diverse—the story itself even comments briefly on the gratitude felt for a librarian who is able to help a child find a book with someone like them in it. This is also probably the first time I’ve ever seen a book include someone with vitiligo, so it’s definitely going to be one of the first that I think of should I ever meet a child who experiences that condition.

I loved A Love Letter to My Library and I think the rest of the world will, too.

I received an early copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

In Lisa Katzenberger’s love letter, the library is a diverse, accessible, loving, buzzing space where kids discover books, make new friends — books, people & gold fish — experiment with crafts, participate in classes, curl up in quiet nooks, find treasures and bring them home.
Robert Sayegh Jr’s bright, textured illustrations have a bold, graphic design feel while also providing layers of humor, depth and narrative. As in his work for ‘Arlo Draws an Octopus,’ real and imaginary worlds overlap on the page (as they do in kids’ lived experience). He managed to ignite our curiosity about the stories-within-the-story being read in the library and I loved the playful details, such as the teddybear on the bookshelf reading a book or the watermelon slice with googly eyes adorning one of the book covers.
“A Love Letter to My Library” is a call to action, inspiring families to visit their local libraries and find out more about the books, programs and resources they have to offer — a triple win for kids’ hearts and minds, families seeking affordable fun during a cost of living crisis and the health of libraries themselves. Katzenberger prompted me, as a writer, to think more about how I can support my local branch. I hope this book will also encourage the practice of expressing appreciation for the spaces, institutions and people we take for granted - and especially, of putting it in writing — because like libraries themselves, gratitude transforms lives.

Practising Gratefulness

The latest picture book by Lisa Katzenberger, written as a letter addressed to her local library, centres around her gratitude for the gift of books. This is an important book because it reminds us of the importance of honouring libraries and making time to spend an afternoon there with our children.

My parents' library was converted into my bedroom when I was born so I was raised with three walls' worth of floor to ceiling books. Ever since, books have been my safety haven. As a child, I have vague memories of my school's library but the library I was most fond of is where I worked part-time as a student assisting the librarian at Trinity Hall, Cambridge and restoring books in a little office with views over the River Cam. I loved the smell and the quiet of the place as I rolled the trolley in to return books to the shelves according to their Dewey decimal classification codes. Well before my son was old enough for school, I took him to our local library in London, Chelsea Town Hall, for nursery rhymes and story time and it was a magical time. And when we moved to Singapore, I volunteered to tell stories in the Central Library at 100 Victoria Street or the Treehouse as it was called then. So it is no wonder that this book has resonated with me.

The illustrator has created a model contemporary library where children of all races and abilities are represented and celebrated.

This picture book highlights different things that libraries have to offer, whether it's a great selection of books, a cozy place to sit with a friend, a craft program, or something else. Instead of following just one character, the author writes about several, showing how each of these children love the library for different reasons.

I appreciate how the author represents the library as a special place for lots of reasons, but I also felt that the book dragged a bit at its length, since there's no plot. If I was reading this in a storytime, I would probably paperclip some pages together to make it shorter. Also, even though the diverse illustrations work fine as a backdrop for the message, they aren't particularly compelling. I would have liked to see more variation in lighting and texture, since everything feels pretty flat and low-contrast.

This book's positive examples and warm message about libraries will appeal to many families, and this is a great choice for classroom and public library settings. This celebrates features, programs, and services that generalize to almost every public library, and it's warm and uplifting without being saccharine.

I received a temporary digital copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book is exactly what the title says it is, a love letter to the library. It celebrates all the reasons we love libraries, from the perfect books just for us to story telling and even arts and crafts, not to mention cozy spots to curl up and read. The characters shown are diverse, including wheelchair characters (and ramps), and show both children and adults. While some of the adults pictured seem to be parents to the children seen, I liked that some were simply there, reminding us that the library is for everyone. There's even a giant "Welcome" sign using not only a heart for the "o" but on a rainbow of colors. Lovely, as are the shelves depicted full of books and more books, as well as computers to connect us to the world and others.

Although there is no real story, simply a recollection of what we can find/do in the library, the book works well. I liked the diversity, shown rather than told, I'll note, and am now jealous that my library doesn't have a fish tank. Thanks #NetGalley and #SourcebooksKids - #SourcebooksExplore for this lovely tribute to one of my favorite places on earth, the library. One of the first things I did when I moved here was go get a library card, I must admit.

Children's Nonfiction

Sourcebook Kids and Netgalley have provided me with an opportunity to review A Love Letter to My Library:

I should state up front that this is a children's picture book, geared toward younger children, and would be a good book for preschoolers through 1st or 2nd graders generally, but each child is different, so that is not set in stone:

Everyone enjoys visiting the library! It is a delight for children, as well as adults, to dig through the shelves for new adventures, children like to curl up in their favorite comfy chair during story time, and even laugh with their friends while doing arts and crafts. There is something for everyone at the library!

Thanks, library, for providing books in every nook and cranny.

Thanks to the library, I've been able to experience adventures from ocean to space.

Thanks, library, for helping me find the perfect book I hug the whole way home.

The illustrations were really cute and will csrtainly draw kids in, reminding them of the libraries they love.

The words are simple and easy to understand for younger readers!

I give A Love Letter to My Library five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

I absolutely adore this book! The author perfectly captures the youthful love for a local library, and this book will no doubt inspire MORE reading within little ones. This book will likely push kids to make their own love letters for their libraries, which is such a heartwarming thing. On top of that, this book will make an ideal story for classroom, daycare, or *library* story time, and it opens so many doors for exploration, learning, discovery, and creativity. This is great to get young minds to be curious and imaginative. Lastly, I loved how diverse and fun the illustrations were. Kids will probably be able to find kids from this book that look like them, or kids that they can relate to. This is awesome, and so valuable for little ones to have.
Bravo!

Brilliant reminder of all the things that libraries and librarians do for us!
The illustrations by Rob Sayegh Jr. (Illustrator) are fun, simple, brilliantly colorful, and delightful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone who has a library available to them, but especially to a school or your local public library (I did!)!

This is a completely delightful book. It lists so many of the ways libraries build community and offer a place for people to do way more than just borrow books. The diverse cast of characters exemplifies the welcoming nature of libraries, and the illustrations give each of the many children in the book his or her own storyline to follow through the art. I've read this multiple times, and each time I see something new in the art. So, even though the text is not plot driven, there are stories happening throughout. The text is still beautiful in how it points out the wonderful things we all shoudl appreciate about libraries.

A Love Letter to My Library is a wonderful book about some of the aspects of a library that children can really relate to such as attending a class or story-time, choosing a book, and hanging out with friends. My children attend regular events at the library and got a real kick out of this book. The illustrations are great and I love how inclusive they are because you always feel welcome at our library. The title of the book is the only thing that feels out of place. It feels more like a thank you note or letter to the library as each page begins with a thank you.
Thank you NetGalley and SourceBooks for the opportunity to read and review this title.

A Love Letter to My Library is an absolutely adorable picture book that champions all of the amazing things that libraries do.

I LOVED everything about this book. The illustrations are gorgeous, & it made me excited to go use my library. I love using libraries for books, but I think all too often, people overlook all of the other services they offer. This book did a great job of showing off some of the amazing things you can do with your local library. It also had a fantastic amount of diversity & representation.

This is a great read for the picture book crowd. Thanks to NetGalley, Lisa Katzenberger, and Sourcebooks for the chance to read & review!!

I'm not going to lie, this was kind of an emotional read.

Libraries have faced so many issues with the uptick of book challenges and book bans. With so many workers fearing the loss of their jobs and many institutions losing their funding, it's had to reckon with the feelings of libraries becoming political playgrounds for many. Katzenberger utilizes her book to remind us all of the beautiful, heartfelt, and wonderful things that libraries provide for our communities. They aren't just warehouses for books. They are the safe space and refuge for all and they should be protected at all costs. With wonderful illustrations, this isn't one that you'll want to miss.

As the title implies, this is a love letter that lists all the wonderful things to be found within the confines of your public library: crafts, computers, story times, friendly faces, and, yes, shelves full of amazing books. A delightful book. The collage style illustrations by Rob Sayegh Jr. are the perfect accompaniment.

A LOVE LETTER TO MY LIBRARY is a sweet and simple picture book of thanks for libraries. Children pen a love letter thanking librarians and their helpers for everything from story time to crafts to quiet library spaces. Katzenberger's words are warm and gentle. Sayegh's art is bright, colorful, and cheerful. I enjoyed the shelves and stacks of books on almost every page. I also liked that the letter is from "all of us," highlighting the community nature of libraries. This picture book, which features a diverse cast, is perfect for children and library lovers. Highly recommend!

Bright illustrated pages! The smiling fish sort of looks terrifying. :o) This story includes most of the amenities that your library may now have to offer. This books shows lots of diversity in the characters. It shows the great appreciation for libraries that we all should show. Lets go out and appreciate our libraries and our librarians. This is what children's books should be easy to read words, colorful pages, a feel good story to it, just the right length. Thanks Netgalley and SOURCEBOOKS Kids for the opportunity to read and review this book. I enjoyed it.

The sweetest little book about loving your library. I still remember going to my library as a child and I still go there today. Things have definitely changed since then and I can remember where everything used to be. Then going there in my teenage years to do book reports and term papers. My library will soon move into a new building and I will hate to see the old library building being used for something else. But things change.

I think kids will love reading this and maybe give them a love for their libraries.

This sweet picture book is exactly as the title claims, A love letter to a library. The book is written as a thank you note and lists all the things that one can find at the library: shelves full of books, cozy spots to read, books that take the reader on journeys near and far. We see kids reading, listening to story time, participating in crafts and even using the internet to video chat with distant relatives, One of the most important things mentioned s a librarian who helps a child find a book with someone like her. Kids crave books that provide a mirror to their own culture. It is crucial that diverse populations are represented in books, The illustrator does just that. Rob Sayegh, Jr. has created bright colorful collage style illustrations that depict a variety of library patrons with skin of many shades. even including a kid with Vitiligo, a pigmentation disorder that causes white patches. Another child is in a wheelchair. I recommend this book for any youngster who cherishes trips to the library!

In this children's coloring book we can see Lisa's love for books and libraries! In a very creative way, it shows us the beauty of being a little reader who borrows books from the library. The joy and excitement of bringing the book home, reading it, spending time with friends reading the book together, being a guest at a special children's book reading event! With this reading, Lisa expressed her special thanks to all the librarians who were super patient with their little readers! Special thanks to NetGalley for this opportunity to read and review this wonderful children's book

This book is a celebration of not just every nook and corner of the library, but also all the entities who make it special for readers. A must for all those who consider the library as a safe refuge in all seasons and for all reasons.

The different textures used in Rob Rayegh Jr's inclusive illustrations are a delight to look.

Katzenberger’s engaging writing and Sayegh’s lively illustrations capture the wonder of visiting libraries (where there are books that take you “on adventures from the seas to the stars”). As depicted in this beautiful book, libraries have friendly librarians who introduce you to interesting, fun, and touching books to read and cozy places to enjoy reading. And libraries are the perfect places to find other book lovers like you!

I am a librarian at a small, rural library, so I'm always happy to find books about the library. I received A Love Letter to My Library as a free ebook galley in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this book that listed all the best characteristics of the library in warm, glowing praise. It makes me think of good books, comfy chairs, and supportive people, especially for the children. The colorful art has a childlike vibe and the textured feel of collage art.

Children that are exposed to books are at an advantage and when that advantage turns to a love of reading, the sky is the limit.
