A Swedish friend who speaks fluent French and is seriously into B.D. told me that this book was first to introduce the verb alunir (touch down on the Moon), formed by analogy with the verb aterrir (touch down). Then when the Apollo 11 astronauts did it in real life, French TV actually used Hergé's word! He was still alive then, and must have felt very proud...

In this adventure, Tintin prepares to go to the moon with Snowy, Captain Haddock, and Professor Calculus in a rocket. Written way before man actually landed on the moon, it is interesting that Herge has chosen the idea to formulate an adventure story for the Tintin series.
Destination Moon is only the part one of this adventure. Here we see that amidst the subterfuge efforts of the enemies, Professor Calculus manages to create and launch a rocket in which he, captain, Tintin, and Snowy set for the moon.
This is a good adventure story though there is another part to see what truly happened to the group during this adventure. Personally, I could have done a little less with technical details, but I suppose it is necessary. We see an unusual show of spirit in the little professor when Captain in a fit of rage accuses him of "playing the goat". :) I've never laughed over a Tintin adventure more. Looking forward to the next part to see what became of them in the moon.

First written in 1953, 15 years before the first real moon landing in 1969!
I like these books because of their nostalgia value, good old-fashioned values of heroism, adventure good vs. evil. . I first got hold of copies of 'Destination Moon ' and 'Explorers on the Moon' when I was ten, and I was fascinated by the world which they opened up.
Tintin and Captain Haddock fly to the uranium-rich Balkan State of Syldavia, to work with Professor Calculus on his project to send a rocket to the moon, using the mountains of Syldavia as a base. You learn a lot about the fantasyland of Syldavia, and about the unusual perception of the world of his time, by the author, Herge.
This work is amazing in its futuristic scope. The super-modern (for when it was written in1953) Sprodj Atomic Research Center, and the details of the rocket where quite an amazing concept when the book was first published, 16 years before the first real moon landing by Neil Armstrong in 1969.
It is full of adventure, such as when Tintin is wounded while surprising villains at the ventilator grid in the picturesque Syldavian Mountains; and much humour such as escapades with Captain
Haddock's pipe and Professor Calculus' hearing aid , and the famous scene of an enraged Professor Calculus `acting the goat'.
It is a great adventure for all ages, a wonderful album to have.

Tintin was one of the comic book heroes of my childhood. I'm going to read my way through the series again as I listen to a radio program about him, and his creator, Hergé. After one stand alone book, Land of Black Gold, comes the next two book adventure, and as it turned out, the last one. First Destination Moon (Tintin #16) and then Explorers on the Moon (Tintin #17). Destination Moon actually begins right where Land of Black Gold left off, so perhaps one could talk about a three book adventure, but not really. There is single story line from the beginning of Destination Moon, till the end of Explorers on the Moon.
The story begins when Tintin, Snowy and Captain Haddock come back from their oil crisis mission, but Professor Calculous isn't at home. Before they manage to unpack, a telegram arrives. It is from the professor, and he is asking them to join him in Syldavia. They go there, and find out that the professor is building a rocket to take a manned, and dogged mission to the moon.
While it doesn't use quite the same formula as the two previous two book adventures, that is mystery at home in Belgium, and then a adventure somewhere else, it doesn't go far from it. There is a certain mystery in Destination Moon, and then adventure in Explorers on the Moon. So there is a clear similarity between these three two book adventures.
But what's more is that after one not so great book, Hergé gets back to form, and delivers a good, tight story, filled with humour, mystery, and adventure. Professor Calculus is responsible for quite a few jokes in Destination Moon, but in a sense this is the first time that he comes across as something more than the dotty professor. He is much more competent here than usually, and in a way this two book adventure is his adventure. This is where he is in his element.
Thompson and Thomson show up, much to the readers amusement, and there is connection between Land of the Black Gold and this two book adventure is mostly seen through them. They still suffer slightly from the mysterious, and comic illness that they contracted in that book. It is a funny book, and there is also an good mystery that isn't quite solved at the end of it, but it really draws one in.
This story was first published in book form in 1953, having been published in weekly instalments as a magazine comic in 1950. The first actual trip to the moon was in 1969, so there had a fair bit of time passed from the time Hergé penned his vision of this trip. Still it's not quite a shot in the dark. He used ideas that had been proposed at the time for how this could be done. The book even has a blue print of the rocket, which gives it a authentic science fiction air.
All in all this is a great book, and ends on probably the best cliffhanger in all the Tintin books.

One of the things I love best about Tintin books are the ridiculous and improbable situations that Tintin finds himself in. A rocket is being sent to the moon? Let's send a teenager, his small dog, a retired alcoholic sea captain, and an old man!

Bununla birlikte üçüncü yıldız insanlık henüz aya ayak basmadan 19 yıl önce oldukça da isabetli olarak roket, görüntülü konuşma, vb. teknolojileri resmetmesi. Kapak dahil olmak üzere tam sayfa paneller gerçekten çok başarılı.
Bu seriyi okuyunca adeta bir çocuk gibi insanın okumayı unutası, sadece resimlere bakarak çizgi romanın keyfini çıkarası geliyor.

Πρώτο μέρος της ιστορίας, λίαν συντόμως θα διαβάσω και το δεύτερο ("Βήματα στη Σελήνη"). Ωραίος και ευχάριστος τόμος, με όλα τα καλούδια που μας έχει συνηθίσει ο Ερζέ. Βέβαια, από άποψη δράσης και σκηνικών ίσως να είναι λίγο πιο... περιορισμένα τα πράγματα (συγκριτικά με άλλες ιστορίες), όμως και πάλι προσφέρει τρελά σκηνικά και ωραίο χιούμορ.

Herge's drawing of characters and backgrounds is flawless, as is his ability to pace the story across the page. But this isn't amongst the strongest Tintins for a few reasons: it's really a build-up to the main event in Explorers on the Moon, so there's a lot of filler instead of plot, mostly involving Captain Haddock and the Thompsons slapstick scenes - funny on small doses, not so much when it takes up half the book. The shady rivals sub-plot is good, but is drawn out with no resolution, as again it is preparing for more substantial revelations in part two. On the plus side, Herge's foresight and grasp of the technical aspects of space travel is genuinely amazing, and the conclusion of the book, when the rocket finally launches, is totally gripping. Now looking forward to re-reading Explorers!

This has a lot of scope for adventure along with scientific fiction!! Tintin is as usual awesome with his acute thinking and decision making! Snowy is as wonderful as ever!! Haddock gives some comic relief with his impatience!! Dr. Calculus has got some major share in this part! Thompson and thomson were hilarious!!

I did not expect to like this one, but I really enjoyed it, mainly due to Calculus and his antics. Inspired by the V-2 rocket that was the first successful attempt to reach space, Hergé developed this story as a science fiction and kept both fantastical and humour elements down. Calculus is developing a rocket that would go to the moon and Syldavia (remember the Syldavia and Bordura war?) is sponsoring it. But there are spies aiming to sabotage the mission. Can Tintin and Captain Haddock reach the moon safely?
My favourite portion of the book is Calculus with his fog horn. It leads to plenty of misunderstandings and drives Captain Haddock up the wall, which then results in my favourite portion of every book: his innovative curses. It was also HILARIOUS when Calculus finally is able to hear Haddock moan about the whole project and loses his temper. It MAKES the story for me.
This is again a two-part story and is combined with Explorers of the Moon, so Destination Moon leaves us at a cliff-hanger with the crew at the base trying to reach out to Calculus and the gang. Earth calling Moon Rocket? Will there be a response? I'll find out next book.
I am rating this a three because I am not too much into SF but the story is well-plotted and interesting, so others may like it better. :)

¿Acaso fue Tintín el primer hombre en llegar a la luna? Sea como fuere, esta historia pone de manifiesto los intereses de las naciones en aquella época, enmarcados en la carrera espacial. Hergé se cura en salud y elige su país ficticio, Syldavia, como centro de operaciones para preparar el viaje. Es un cómic diferente; la estructura habitual cambia con respecto a los anteriores, algo que no necesariamente debería ser malo, y se aprecia un tono más didáctico. Sin embargo, a mí no me ha logrado convencer como otros. Pero sigue siendo bueno, como prueba la impresionante viñeta del cohete que ocupa toda la página y los dibujos del entramado montado con motivo del alunizaje.

خیلی جالب بود برام که هرژه مثل ژول ورن فکر سفر به کره ماه و چیزای علمی تخیلی به ذهنش زد.قبلا البته وارد دنیای فانتزی شده بود.

این باحال ترین داستان فضانوردی ای بود که من تا به حال خوانده بودم. داخل سفینه، مشروب می‌خوردند، چندتایی مسافر قاچاق داشتند و حتی تن تن سگش (میلو) را هم برده بود. رسما کشتی بود.

Un voyage sur la lune et beaucoup de problèmes à résoudre. Quatre personnes plus un chien se dirigent vers la lune. Ils ont une belle vue d'en haut à travers le périscope.
Les problèmes se produisent à l'intérieur de la fusée. Professeur Tournesol devient amnésique seulement pour un moment.
Mais alors ils ne sont pas 4, mais 6 personnes. Comme Dupont et Dupond sont entrés aussi, ce qui implique un problème puisque les réserves d'oxygène étaient destinés à quatre.
Tout en volant, le capitaine décide de quitter la fusée, et dans son espace-marche, il pense qu'un astéroïde est un château. Des problèmes pour Tintin, qui le sauve.
Là-haut, sur la lune, c'est le paysage de désolation. Et pourtant, nous avons Milou le premier chien marchant sur la lune! Le capitaine Haddock peut chanter sur la surface de la lune: 'Au clair de la terre mon ami Pierrot'.
Les choses empirent car un autre passager a été trouvé dans la fusée, un colonel gangster, qui avait un accord avec un scientifique à bord (qui a été victime de chantage).
Malgré tous les problèmes, ils sont de retour à la «bonne vieille terre», même si l'oxygène est manquant. Le scientifique traître s'est repenti et a quitté la fusée, fournissant ainsi un peu plus d'oxygène.
Une des meilleures histoires que j'ai rencontrée.

Tintin: Objetif Lune es uno de uno de los capítulos más famosos de Tintín. Sin embargo he de decir que a mí se me hizo un poco pesado.
En este tomo como bien se ve la portada, el capitán Haddock, Tintin, Milou y el profesor Tournesol se embarcan en una aventura que los llevará que nada más y menos que la luna. Como no puede faltar en cada tomo, aparecerán los agentes Dupont y Dupond para “ayudar” por no decir causar más “problemas” al resto de protagonistas. Aportando así alguna escenas cómicas de los “dramas” que se viven en estos comics.
Una cosa positiva que puedo decir de este tomo es que se muestra de verdad el carácter de Tournesol. En otras tiras habíamos visto que parece el típico científico chiflado sordo que no hace sino sacar de quicio al Capitán. Sin embargo, es aquí cuando se ve que es realmente listo y no se le tiene en cuenta tanto como se espera.
Como conclusión puedo decir que esta entrega no es que sea mala, al contrario. El autor ha hecho un gran trabajo escribiéndola y documentándose al respecto. Pero a mí, seguramente por el momento en el que me encontraba se me hizo un poco cuesta arriba.

En otras tiras habíamos visto que parece el típico científico chiflado sordo que no hace sino sacar de quicio al Capitán. Sin embargo, es aquí cuando se ve que es realmente listo y no se le tiene en cuenta tanto como se espera.
Como conclusión puedo decir que esta entrega no es que sea mala, al contrario. El autor ha hecho un gran trabajo escribiéndola y documentándose al respecto. Pero a mí, seguramente por el momento en el que me encontraba se me hizo un poco cuesta arriba.

Qué nivel de definición! Se nota la documentación previa del autor sobre el tema. Bastante riguroso el diseño del cohete y de las instalaciones espaciales. Todo eso te hace sumergirte en la burbuja y creerte mucho más las cosas que pasan. La realidad dentro de la ficción.
Empiezo a ver una pauta: ya aparecen todos los personajes principales en todas las obras (Tintín y Milú, Tornasol, Haddock y Hernández y Fernández). Estos dos últimos metidos con calzador, pero no seré yo el que ponga objeciones sobre su presencia xD
La primera vez que una primera parte (de estas sagas recurrentes de dos partes) me gusta tanto, a pesar de tener poca aventura. A ver qué tal la segunda.

Samen met het vervolgverhaal één van mijn favorieten uit mijn jeugd. Terecht, zo blijkt, want ook in de Franstalige versie is dit album gevuld met tot de verbeelding sprekende technologie die zelfs semi-realistisch lijkt (toch in vergelijking met pakweg de vliegende bol van Gobelijn). Tel daarbij op: het Koude Oorlog-sfeertje met geheime diensten en spionage en de spanning die meesterlijk opgebouwd wordt tot het ultieme moment waarop de raket met inzittenden de lucht ingaat... En dan moet het hoogtepunt, de maanreis zelf, nog komen!

Super fun.
The rocket is so iconic that it's hard not to approach this without a sense of excitement...and it pays off in spades! With it being part one of a larger adventure there's plenty of scope for comedy, which is provided, as usual, by Capt Haddock, and his interplay with Calculus in this tale is as good as it gets - in fact Tintin is almost 4th billing as even Snowy gets some great lines...
The art work is also stunning in places, especially around the revelation of the rocket, and the story twists and turns at a perfect pace.
