Sensory Ops #4

A Killing Touch

Rate this book

He’s everything she craves. She’s everything he dreads.

Sensory Ops, Book 4

Journalist Lana Quinn has a way with hard-hitting news. The story she’s uncovered has potential, but she needs the help of her best friend’s FBI team. She’s been rescued by them, worked with them, and partied with them, but convincing the second in command to believe her theory—that a killer’s touch sets off a lethal allergic reaction—is a frustrating challenge.

Especially since he excites her, body and mind. He’s a danger she shouldn’t indulge.

Aidan Burgess is resistant to helping Lana, but not for the reason she thinks. She has a knack for landing herself in trouble, which means she needs protection. Protecting her means staying near her, a journalist, who like all journalists uses whatever—and whomever—it takes to get her story. It’s a case he wants to refuse.

Especially since she lights a fire in his blood. She’s a danger he can’t afford.

As Lana follows up on lead after deadly lead, learning to trust and rely on each other becomes their only lifesaving hope. If their pride doesn’t become their final pitfall.

This title contains a grudge-holding hero who gives “kiss my ass” new meaning, a heroine out to prove herself, and a danger that dares them to trust.

Lana Quinn is a journalist who has a knack for getting stories that put her smack right into danger. Her current story on is no different and noticing this danger beforehand, she asks for help from her best friend’s FBI team. She’s worked with most of them before. Aidan Burgess is the second-in-command on the team. He is reluctant to help because journalists are not his favorite people. Besides, he is trying to fight his attraction to Lana and helping her with a case means being constantly close to her, which is definitely a problem he doesn’t need.

A KILLING TOUCH is a great example of how I like a romantic suspense to be written. The story kept me guessing and on my toes from beginning to end. Lana is a compelling character who, from the beginning, goes for what she wants. She is working on a story which is not an open and shut case. There is an unusual serial killer whose methods are unlike any other and he has to be stopped. As soon as she realizes that, she enlists the help of the FBI team that her best friend works with since things will move faster if they help out. However, getting the help she needs is no easy feat as Aidan, the guy she has a crush on, has to agree to help and he doesn’t like helping out reporters, even Lana. Lana is determined to work the case with or without their help as she has the tendency of putting justice in front of her own safety. Once Aidan realizes this, he has no choice but to offer his team to help Lana with the story.

Aidan Burgess is an enigma. Right from the start, his attraction to Lana is obvious but he fights it vehemently and is determined not to give in. But, seeing as he’s going to be helping Lana, the constant close proximity they are bound to have might just be the trick to wear him down. He is loath to repeat a past mistake and seeing him overcome his trust issues makes him such an endearing hero.

Circumstances and some encouragement from friends have brought Lana and Aidan together in a professional capacity but it’s not too long before the personal enters the mix. Though they both work hard in trying to work the case and fighting their attraction, they, of course, do not succeed in one area. The passion between these two is scorching hot and the slow way that Aidan changes is just oh! so sweet. In addition to the suspense about who the killer is, there is also a surprise regarding Lana’s family that may make or break their relationship. There is definitely nothing easy when it comes to Lana and Aidan.

Although this is the fourth book in the SENSORY OPS series, it can be read as a stand-alone. But even though one doesn’t have to read the previous books, characters from the previous books are a part of this book. I really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to those who love suspense. I will definitely be reading the previous books, SOUNDS TO DIE BY, SCENT OF PERSUASION and ILLICIT INTUITIONS as well as any future books in this series.

A Killing Touch was a great romantic suspense novel. I went into the novel thinking I knew who the killer was, but then I ended up changing my mind a few times throughout the book. As for the romance part, Nikki Duncan sure knows passion! Lana and Aidan burn up the pages with their own brand of highly volatile passion! This couple really get at each other, in both good and bad ways, but the same passion that causes them to argue also leads to a lot of steamy reading!

Going into the book you know that Lana and Aidan have hooked up previously, but have been avoiding a repeat, so there isn't the gradual getting to know each other beforehand that you typically see. So from the first pages there is already attraction sizzling between them.

Lana is a honest and caring journalist, and I loved what a strong woman she was. No weak-willed heroines in this book, that is for sure. She knows her mind, respects herself and others, and is filled with integrity. Aidan has been burned by a reporter before and projects some of his emotional baggage onto Lana. Therein lies the root of most of their personal struggles, but don't let me make this sound like he's not a great hero, because he is. He's brave, smart, caring although he tries to hide it, and sexy as hell.

Although A Killing Touch is the fourth book in the Sensory Ops Series, it can easily be read as a standalone if you choose. You won't be lost if you hop in now, but you're going to want to read about the other characters too once you read this one, so I recommend reading them in order. Overall, a really good read featuring a fast-paced storyline, top-notch romance, and memorable characters.

Journalist Lana Quinn believes she’s found her next big story but she knows she is going to need some help if she plans to ferret out the killer. Lana reaches out to her friends who know how to use the gifts God gave them. Unfortunately, the person she has to convince is the one person who can’t seem to stand being around her.

Aidan Burgess can’t stand to watch Lana place herself in trouble again. It seems all this woman knows how to do is find trouble. Knowing that she is planning on pursuing another story with murder at the center doesn’t set well with Aidan. However, he knows that once Lana sets her mind to something there is no stopping her. Will he be able to protect her from herself and keep his feelings for her in check? The last thing in the world he wants is to fall for a freaking journalist.

A Killing Touch is another great Sensory Ops story from author Nikki Duncan. I found the plot at the center of this romance to be very intriguing. The mystery of it all was great. The chemistry between Lana and Aidan is very fiery. Aidan has a bad attitude when it comes to Lana because of a past experience with journalists. It irked me a little because it took him so long to come around to Lana. The sexual attraction between them is fabulous from the beginning but it took a little while for Aidan’s heart to become involved. It is awesome to get some page time with previous characters from the series. They provided plenty of laughs in the middle of the suspenseful action. A Killing Touch is full of danger, passion and nail-biting suspense

A Killing Touch by Nikki Duncan
The journalist Lana Quinn is hot on the trail of a new breakthrough but she needs the help of the team. They set up a meeting and it was Aiden Burgess that showed up. She explained to him her thoughts given the facts she had accumulated and they discussed it over lunch.
They had a fling, hot wild sex and it's on again. He will look into her theory but her ex, Nigel phones to say another body is being brought into the ME's office.
Hard with all the onslaught of names to figure out who's who til a few chapters in and then you realize there are teams of people working together.
Another female in the team wants everybody to be happy as a couple as she is and strives to get people hooked up.
The investigation goes on as she finds other clues and they all try to search for the common threads of all the deaths, the thing they have in common.
The others have all died due to an allergy reaction that someone is somehow injecting into them. Clues are coming in fast and she almost dies from being injected herself. Kind of like a warning to back off. Til Aiden finds out who her father is he's glad he called him.
More clues and more deaths and the number of suspects is dwindling...
Love the plants and what they mean to the human body..
At the sites where I posted my review I did give the book 5 stars out of 5. I love learning new things, especially the plants in this one. Subject is interesting as long as there's not a lot of blood and gore. This kind of reminded me of revolution where you need to survive on your skills.

A Killing Touch by Nikki Duncan. Book 4 in the Sensory Ops Series did not disappoint. Sizzling hot chemistry, creative plot & villian, good story flow, super sexy love scenes, good characterization, and great romantic suspense. The book picks up right where the series leaves off and the Sensory Op team has a new kind of killer on their hands. Not only do they have to deal with a unusual type of serial killer, they have to allow a reporter to work with them on the case.

I highly recommend this series!

Majority of the book had sex scenes. Hero was always belittling the heroine( almost till last 4-5 pages). Then for him to suddenly say in the end that he loved her was totally unbelievable. The heroine also forgave him which was even more annoying.
Waste of time.
