Domino Effect

Nikki Truth and Trinette Montgomery are back at it in CONSEQUENCES. This time around Trinette is living in Virginia with her husband Leon. She is seriously trying to be fully committed to their marriage. Nikki and her husband Donovan also reconciled and have another child. Donovan is just back from serving another tour in Afghanistan. While the friends are in different cities, they are still best friends and keep one another updated with their lives.

Trinette has tried being faithful, and it just doesn’t work. This time around her risqué behaviors are saved for just one man, her boss, Jrue Jarmon. Despite being married for 10 years, Trinette is certain that for the very first time in her life she’s in love. When she learns of her pregnancy, she realizes just how messy things will get if she was to carry a child full-term. Before she can rectify the situation, Leon is ecstatic and Trinette is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Will love be the deciding factor?

Nikki Truth is all about living out the truth during her radio show. But between the drinking and the accusations, she realizes that something isn’t right with Donovan. When she tries to talk to him, things go from bad to worse and soon Nikki is scrambling to make things like they were. When Donovan finally takes things too far, Nikki’s heartbreak seems to be coming from every direction. Can she finally find a solution?

Like I stated in CONFESSIONS, I love the two characters. Superficial, and flawed, Trinette is a big burst of diva and Nikki with her laid back wisdom and wit makes for the perfect bond. I like the story, but it lacks the freshness as CONSEQUENCES is the exact same as CONFESSIONS. The characters seem to be going back and forth with the very same issues of betrayal, hurt and revenge.

Ms. Netta and Ms. Nikki sure served up some drama in this follow up to their lives. Oh the fire Trinette played with, you knew she begging to get burned. Nikki's past didn't want to die in the first book and it certainly didn't help by resurfacing while she and her husband were trying to adjust back to life with him being home after his deployment. With the way the book ended I know there has to be more for Nikki and Trinette and I look forward to reading the next installment!

When You Know Better, You Do Better

Some people just don't learn. Trinette Montgomery is one such person. Her husband, Leon, is a good man. He gives her everything, but it's still not enough. It's certainly not enough to stop Trinette from stepping out on Leon...again. Do cheaters ever win?

With her past tucked safely away in a mental hospital, Nikki is determined to make her marriage work. That's easier said than done as Nikki's husband Donovan isn't the same man he was before his deployment. Nikki is dealing with his mood swings, irrational behavior and excessive drinking. Is their relationship beyond repair?

I enjoyed Sasha Campbell's CONFESSIONS. I was surprised to learn there was a sequel. Both Nikki and Trinette were likable characters so it was nice to revisit their worlds. Because it's a sequel, I can't help but compare it to the first book. In comparison, while entertaining, CONSEQUENCES was lacking and predictable. Gone was the connection to the two main characters that pulled me into the first book. This sequel seemed to be filled with drama for the sake of drama. Trinette certainly seemed to be less smart this go `round.

CONSEQUENCES wasn't a bad book. Some important issues were addressed like PTSD. I just felt a sequel wasn't necessary. If a sequel is not as good as or better than book one, it's best to leave well enough alone. If Campbell continues on with another book, I would hope there's a little more plot that doesn't rely on drama and sex so much and eliminates predictability.

Ms. Netta is a glutton for punishment. I could tell from the beginning that she was going to lose, yet she still somehow managed to win in the loss. I hope this time she really gets it together, there’s only so much a person is willing to put up with. Ms. Nikki was just foolish, foolish for not being honest when she had a valid reason and foolish for waiting so long seeing her husband spiral. PTSD is serous you don’t wait until it’s too late. Now I hope crazy man don’t come triggering her husband and creating more drama.

This book started with all the drama! There’s a married woman cheating with a married man, her best friends husband is covering for his homeboy that’s cheating on his wife with a man. Does he know his friend is gay or not? This is one you have to read and I promise you will not want to put it down! I finished this in a day! If I could give this book more stars I would! I have already been to Amazon to order her other books!

In Consequences by Sasha Campbell, Nikki and Trinette are back with more issues that lead to harder consequences. Nikki Truth is a successful radio talk show host who loves hearing others problems and giving her two cents. Nikki is a good listener and gives good advice but should also use the advice she gives. Nikki’s husband, Donovan, has been serving the country and is now home from the war. Donovan, like other soldiers, came home with emotional baggage, which causes Donovan to be paranoid. Nikki has tried her best to walk on eggshells to not set her husband off. The stress of trying to keep her career and her house running smoothly is wearing Nikki down. When Nikki starts noticing Donovan’s behavior is putting their son in danger, she steps up to get her husband help. Will Nikki save her husband and their marriage before it’s too late?

Trinette Meyers-Montgomery moved to Richmond with her husband, Leon, and became the corporate wife he wanted. Trinette has put her past infidelity behind her until she meets Jrue Jarmon. Jrue brings out something in her that she has since lost in her marriage. Trinette has given her heart to Jrue and when she is informed that she is pregnant (knowing her husband is dying to have a child) Trinette finds herself in a very sticky situation. Will Trinette’s plans for happily ever after come to fruition? Or will Trinette’s plans cause her to fall flat on her face?

Consequences is about exactly what the title implies. Nikki and Trinette find out the consequences of their actions may be harder to deal with and more than they are prepared for. This author does not disappoint by sharing a book of intense action, drama and betrayal. This books’ message was very clear with characters that readers will relate to. I recommend Consequences to others.

A story about friends, lifelong friends, and best friends forever; even if one is a hypocrite and the other one is a man chaser. They truly only had each other and yet they both have husbands... Nikki gives advice on a talk show to callers and yet can’t seem to reach her friend. Nikki herself needs her own advice to deal with things in her past or somebody’s advice.
The book blends emotions, thoughts, action and a yearning for what they do not have and want but may not need. This book is about life, people, real people with real problems living a real life sprinkled with drama and problems. The characters are fantastic and ones you feel like you really know. You read a few paragraphs and want to sit the characters down and explain what they are doing wrong and what they should do; but you turn another page to watch them go on.
Nikki’s husband is back from deployment and brought a friend with him; the need to drink. Trinette deals with her own issues, a boss and an unplanned event. A bit of Jekyll and Hide in all of the characters.
The journey with these characters is full of dilemmas entwined with laughter, tears, desire, addiction and a small hope from the church with mamma and acceptance for how things are. The read was a good one. At times there seem to be too much going on like a soap opera but it was worth the read. The title is a perfect fit; we all deal with the consequences and not all of them are good.
I received this book via goodreads and appreciate the opportunity to read it and share it with others.

Big. Drama. Steamy. Fun. Did I say Drama???

I try to read a book in genres I don't normally read once every decade or so. Recommended well by a coworker, this urban lit novel, though overly dramatic for my tastes - was a fun summer read. I did want to know what happened to the two main characters and their shenanigans. The sexy scenes seemed plausible and the plot twists seemed realistic to me based on the characters.

The only real ding I'll give this book is the wrist-slapping, finger waving it gave to readers near the beginning of the book. The main character Nikki, who's a night time talk show host and book store owner complains about priorities black folks have who'd rather borrow or steal books instead of wanting to pay for them --when they can pay for their nails to be done. Come on! You're going to condemn the reader for borrowing a book from a library or a friend? Seems a bit self-serving and greedy, Ms. Author. If people love your book, they'll end up buying it, and your series - no matter the race of the reader. And libraries *do* buy books. 'nuff said. I'm off my high horse.

This is the second book in the Nikki and Trinette series, but you don't have to read the first one to understand what's going on. The author did a good job telling the backstory so it stands alone -- or if you love it, you can pick up the first book, Confessions.

Consequences is a well-written book. The characters are likable and believable. I listened to it as an audible book and the narration was spot on. The book focuses on two women, Trinette Montgomery and Nikki Truth, best friends. Each one has problems in her marriage. Each one tries to cope with the problems - one, through manipulation, lying, cheating and believing something that no woman should ever believe (he's really going to leave his wife for me); the other through determination and hard work - her husband has returned from his military tour with a heaping dose of PTSD and denial of same.

I stayed engaged throughout the book but since parts of the book were like wading through my own past - I've experienced my fair share of cheat and deceit - it didn't move me as much I might have liked. The resolution of the book was plausible. The only thing that bugged me was the final paragraph - I would have given the book 4 stars but for that last paragraph. It kind of left me hanging and took away the satisfaction of the outcome. I don't mind a sequel - I write them, too - but I want to feel full and satisfied when I read one of the books in the series.

Consequences by Sasha Campbell - 3 stars

Trinette Montgomery and Nikki Truth have been best friends for years. They had each others back and the craziness they lived was enough to make anyone insane. Trinette had a wonderfully wealthy husband because was not satisfied sexually. She turned to another man and sparks would fly in more ways than one. While Nikki ran a lucrative bookstore and hosted a popular radio show...all wasn't well in her world. Nikki's husband, Donovan, was suffering from a severe case of PTSD. Her world would turn upside down before its over.

Campbell writes an intricate story of lies and deceit. Her character development is slow at first but they do grow and evolve. The supporting characters really add life to this tale of truth or dare. Tristan (Nikki's) over-the-top homosexual friend, Jrue (Trinette's special friend) while Kenyon and Jackie are both certified crazy. There were a few spots when I wanted to slap someone but it kept me reading anyway. There is a element of predictably but the jump-offs keep it interesting. Read it for yourself.

I am reviewing, and indeed even finished this book, because I received the book from the publisher through Goodreads. This book is ostensibly about two women who support each other in their friendship through marital problems and life. Nikki's story touches on a very important problem of the difficulty many of our combat vets face when they return home and try to adjust. It spotlights the difficulties in dealing with PTSD.

Unfortunately, that is only about ten percent of the book and the rest is bedhopping and the too graphic descriptions. If I am to believe this author, all black women think about is sex, their hair and their appearance. What a shame. The women in this book, instead of coming across as strong and capable, are merely silly and one dimensional. Sasha, your characters and storyline deserve a much better portrayal than this!

I've been avoiding "urban" novels for a while but this title piqued my interest as I browsed the shelves of my public library. It was good for what it was: a fun summer read. Both predictable in places, and slow in others, it's a sordid tale of well, consequences. All of the characters are extremely flawed with very few redeeming qualities. I know it's fiction, but if art represents life it is a sad, sad reflection of Black people.

All things considered, it became a page-turner about halfway through, but I don't feel that I need to rush back to the library to pick up the first installment in the series. The story ends in a cliffhanger, but I won't hold my breath for the next chapters...

Consequences by Sasha Campbell is and interesting novel full of drama that will keep you up late reading. Her story is about two women who are friends. Will the producer of the on air show case a drift between the two friends? I highly recommend readers to pick up this delightful read and find out! It is filled with moments of laughter, desire, and tears. Consequences has tons of new twists to add to the two women’s lives and friendship. A very, very, very, intriguing plot with full of life characters and vivid scenes! So many lessons are learned. This book, is one i would recommend all readers to pick and read! Fabulous adventures are awaiting you! A romance novel you won’t forget! I rate this novel a 5 out of 5 stars!

This was a really good read. I enjoyed the book and all the characters and their parts in the story. Trinette Montgomery was something. She really did use a man (husband) to get everything that she wanted and felt it was her rightful due with no shame. But as the old saying goes....what you dish out comes back at you in the end. I don't want to spill the spoilers or give away the plot. But if you enjoy reading Nikki Turner's books than you will defiantly enjoy reading Sasha Campbell. She's is a winner!

OMG, it can't end like that!!

Nikki Truth and Trinette Montgomery is back at it again, just when you thought that Trinette had learned her lesson about cheating on her husband Leon, She finds herself back in the arms of yet another man.

Nikki and Donavan has gotten their life back on track since he's come home from the military but everything is peaches and cream.

The past has a way of resurfacing in the worst way.

Sasha Campbell is a Wonderful Storyteller, I've enjoyed All Four of her novels. 5 Star books!!

Nikki kept a secret from her husband that came back to bite her hard. Trinette was so self centered its hard to imagine her capable of loving anyone.

Neither knew for certain who fathered their children because it was a 50/50 shot for them both. They both knew who they hoped were the fathers respectively. Book just goes to show how the decisions we make all have consequences. Intent really doesn't matter, you've got to be prepared to be dealt with.

Trinette is an accident waiting to happen. Screwing at the office and at one of your properties is a sure way to have an unhappy ending. I felt sorry for Nikki and Donovan. PTSD, and its effects, ruin lives and relationships. I liked the pace of the book. It even looks like Trinette survived getting caught in the act.

I think it was well written and kept you wanting more. I'm impressed at how she kept you intrigued on what was coming next. A few of the upcoming scenes were predictable but there were times I was like WTF?!!! I really am interested to see what happens to Nikki in the next installment and to see where Trinette and Leon head.

Very good novel had be on the edge the entire book! Trinette was a trip and totally under false hopes where Jrue is concerned. Nikki had a lot to deal with, with Donovan and his PTSD was a lot to deal with. Poor Jackie needed psychiatric treatment I truly understood her pain! A great novel, wondering if Sasha is done after that ending. Only time will tell!

I am not a big fan of the genre. Got it free several years ago and thought I'd finally read it. I'm not into drama and this story certainly had alot of it with the cheating and family issues with PTSD, not that isn't a valid problem, but I would not recommend this unless you like this genre of bedhopping, etc.

Read two chapters - enough for me. Too many good books available to spend time reading one that I don't like. Language was a real turn off to me.

I received this free book from Goodreads as a "First Reads" to review.
