In this gripping and heart-wrenching story, you will meet Sean. He was raised by a hustling, well-connected mother and was taught early about street survival. When his mother is brutally murdered, Sean is thrust into a cold world all alone. An old friend of his mother takes Sean under his wing and introduces him to a life of drug dealing at its highest level. Sean becomes "King Sean" and rises up the drug game's totem pole. King Sean makes a solid name for himself in the street game. The only weakness he has ever had is a childhood friend and also the love of his life--a beauty named Sunny. Sunny has a struggle with drugs, and along her road to recovery, Sean falls victim to the vice as well. His life is slowly headed on a downward spiral, and his decline from street fame is filled with murder, lies, backstabbing, and a struggle to survive. Walk on the journey with Sunny and Sean as they hit rock bottom and steal, lie, and deceive in their struggle with addiction. Someone dies . . . but not until the end is the truth unveiled.
New York Times bestseller JaQuavis Coleman pens an intricate, fast-paced street thriller that tells a bold story of true love, addiction, and murder. Read about The Day the Streets Stood Still.
JaQuavis Coleman also writes (with Ashley Antoinette) as "Ashley & JaQuavis".
JaQUAVIS COLEMAN, the New York Times best-selling author of Dopeman’s Trilogy, first burst onto the scene at the age of eighteen and quickly became a nationwide literary phenomenon. He and his wife Ashley Antoinette have coauthored numerous “street fiction” classics. With the birth of the Cartel series, the “Ashley and JaQuavis” brand took off. In 2013, twenty-seven-year-old Coleman was honored by Ebony magazine as being one of the Top 100 most influential African Americans in the country.
This wasn't a bad read overall, but the sexist descriptions of women's bodies made me enjoy it less. Writing women that way was a choice, one that could've been avoided.
I'm still looking forward to checking out the author's other books, hopefully they're a lot better than this one.
I don't know if this book is up to JaQuavis Coleman/Ashley JaQuavis's usual standards. But, it's a fast read. Sean's mom is murdered when he's very young. He meets Sunny when he goes to live with his grandmother. They become best friends. As he grows up he is schooled by Fox (his mothers friend/should have been boyfriend). Sunny is an addict over the years that follow. Being pimped by her boyfriend. In one chapter she is angry with Sean for not coming to get her. In the next, she fighting him for trying to help her. Tedious. Sean's addiction started stupidly. Almost unrealistically. If you're a fan, you might enjoy it.
I didn't like this book at all. I stopped reading when I was 35% done with the book. I just couldn't take anymore. I'm shocked that I didn't like the book because I love the author's books but this was something I couldn't deal with.
JaQuavis didn't disappoint at all. The relationship between Sean and Sunny seemed as if they would make it work from the beginning. As they began getting older Sunny started letting a man change her and neglected the friendship she once had with Sean. Throughout everything that occurred Sunny still managed to hold a soft spot with Sean. I was so glad he finally did what he had to do when it came to Faheem. I couldn't believe Sunny let it go as far as it did and still ended up blaming Sean. BG was the truth! I liked her because no matter what, she genuinely cared for Sean and always had his best interest at heart. Ugh God! To have so much power but still be upset about Sean stepping away was crazy. He went overboard hurting the people closest to Sean and made me wonder if he had anything to do with Mook because of what Fox did. The secrets that were revealed that no one knew was shocking to say the least. If someone is at the top of their game you never truly know when it can all be taken away and you'll need some of the same people you neglected on your way up. Even with some people turning on Sean, BG and Beans seemed to always have his back. I was so glad that God and Freddie both got what they rightfully deserved. Sean scared me for a minute at the end, but all in all I'm glad he was able to show that he was no longer weak and realized he still had someone in his corner.
Being at the top of the world is nothing without the one you love. Sean claimed the reigns handed to him and fought to have his one and only love at his side. Sunny had it so hard she never learned to love herself and didn't recognize love nor feel she deserved it. After you loose it all and find your way back, do you see who had your back all along or do you succumb to the back hole calling your name? This is not the average hood tale full of drugs, sex and violence. Pay attention and get the full dose being handed to you.
*Spoilers* Wow this was an awesome story, It grabbed me right from the start and held me till the very end. Reading this was like being on a emotional rollercoaster. The ups, downs, tragedies and heart breaks will surely get to you. I can only imagine how Sean felt after dealing with all this turmoil and trying to love and save a woman who didn't want to be saved.Jaquavis was very detailed and vivid with a lot of scenes that I could see them clearly playing out in my head, but the way they did Grandma was a dog on shame. lord have mercy, that was tough to read.
I have mixed feeling about this one. I love JaQuavis's writing but I found the characters to be lacking and the storyline a little predictable. BG is my girl and represented for REAL women though.
I love how JaQuavis, make the characters seem so real in the book.I loved how much he was loved, by Big Momma, Fox, Sunny and his Mom. I wish Sunny didn't have to go thru , what she went thru. The book deserves 5 stars!
This book was just okay. I really wish Sunny could’ve overcame her addiction so her and Sean could’ve got that happen ending. I didn’t like BG. She was a desperate & jealous.

In this book there is a quote that says " I want you to always live your life right, sean. Always do what's right or else things you do will come back on you with a vengeance." It means that when you doing illegal things it won't last longer for the vengeance to come back at you. It makes me think about when you doing illegal things and then you getting money but one day it all come back at you and make you loose everything you had. It can apply to my life because my family always talk to me about vengeance and what illegal money can do it to you.

This was the classic rise-to-the top, just-to-fall-from-grace-novel. I thought this was a great author a few years ago. Now, it seems like the stories are all the same with a twist. I understand the premise of referring to the connect as "God". I did not like it though. It would have been nice to have more of BG's back story. Overall, I really think this author has more potential thank was displayed in this book.
Good story that kept my attention and the story flowed well. I gave this book 4 stars because there were some errors and the ending could have been better.
This was a heart wrenching urban tale about the ups and downs of street life. A street "King" falls a long way down as a result of the love of his life. Tale of lies, revenge, drugs, love, and money.
I was really bout to be like FUCK YOU JAQUAVIS COLEMAN! But he gave me a happy ending...as happy as you gon get with him anyway.
Nevertheless, this book was fucking depressing. Not as bad as Moth to a Flame, but still. And not surprising. I stopped reading the Coleman's books because they were stressing me out too bad. But back to this one.
Sean saw too much from a young age and throughout his life. He shoulda been more ruthless and cold hearted or shoulda started getting high way before he actually did. His mother, his friend, his mentor, his grandmother, his unborn baby, all died in horrific ways and he found them. Then Sunny's ass. She was raped by her stepfather and beaten by her mother, then ended up with a nigga like Sister's man (if you don't know who I'm talking about I'm judging you...or you too damn young...but you grown now and can make your own choices so I'm still judging).
Both of them could have prevented becoming addicts. Considering what they both went through from childhood, you would think they would end up using just from the depression to escape. But both of them started getting high on some goofy shit. Sunny was jealous of the white bitch with the loose asshole that was snorting heroin off the Jamaican niggas dick, and decided snorting to get his attention off her was better than getting Sean to come get her and say "I told you so". And Sean was the dumbest of all; this nigga shoots her heroin to prove that addiction is a choice...WRONG ANSWER BUDDY! Now look at yo ass! Then, after a swift downfall, the love of his life OD's and dies in his face. Yet another tragic loss.
I was surprised BG still had feelings for him. It would have been one thing to hear about him getting high, but she saw him at his absolute worst. I guess she really loved his ass.
Now that set up with G was slick. And Jaquavis got my ass. I knew G thought he was gonna fuck her and do something to her to get at Sean. And for a minute I was mad and thought that's really what was gonna happen. I was ready to put this book down. BG is a boss bitch! You mean to tell me her hurt feelings would have her dumb enough to go to a bar alone knowing her enemy is in the vicinity, get pissy drunk, run her mouth to this old man, and let him fuck for attention? No way...I was like if Jaquavis make her go out like that I'm cussing his ass out. When she noticed the button on the elevator he pushed, then she said the room number out loud, I knew they was gonna get his ass. I was like WHEW! Nigga scared me for a minute.
That last 5 minutes had me clenching my asscheeks. I really thought Sean OD'd and BG found him dead. That would have pissed me off because she is beyond loyal his ass and that would have broken her heart. Especially with a baby in her stomach. I'm glad it was a daydream and he decided not to go there.
Clearly I was very invested in these characters. I don't like all the telling vs showing, but I think it's hard to get around that when you're reading a book written in 3rd person, which is why I prefer books like this to be written in 1st. But it got 5 stars from me, so that last bit wasn't that big of a deal.

Epic Urban Tragedy This is a very well-written novel, quickly paced, and explosive. It just wasn't for me. While the characters were well developed and the storyline was tight, it was simply too much sex, drugs, and murder.
There is a beautiful love story woven through this tragedy. For me, though, the balance just weighed too heavily on the dark side. I recognize and respect the author's intent to do just that. There are so many novels that only tell half the story, painting a rosy picture of life on the streets. I applaud his resolve to make this gritty tale much more realistic. To this end, many people will find it a stark and revelatory story; a story that stays with them long after the book has finished.
As an avid fan of audiobooks, I've enjoyed many that feature cinematic narration. But in this case, I found it too much. Like the story itself, it was more immersion than I wanted. Especially during the sex and rape scenes. If it had included some bad music in the background, I would have thought I was listening to a porn tape. Truly, in this reader's eyes, some things are best left to the imagination.
This novel is SEX, DRUGS, MONEY, and “Pew! Pew! Everybody going die” lol. In The Day The Streets Stood Still, Jaquavis Coleman gives us the life of King Sean: the before the game to the end of the game, the highs and the lows, true love and murder. There were so many times I had hope for Sean to turn his life around until I saw I had too many chapters left for that to be true. Biggie said it best, “number 4, I know you heard this before: Never get high on your own supply.” This was my first urban book. It took some getting used to with all of its necessities of the stereotypical urban life. However, because it was so packed with action and upbeat from the first page, I was able to read it quickly.
This book definitely showed me that the Ashley & JaQuavis wave is absolutely not for me. Not bc of a lack of writing ability but just bc of the intensity of their style. I found it hard to fully enjoy this book bc it felt like nothing good would or could ever happen. Sean’s relationship with Sunny annoyed me during the entire story. BG, was my girl! Solid & loyal as they come although I did question a decision or two of hers lol Oh & Grandma made a dumb move as well that I didn’t fully understand either. Honestly this was overall a great story that clearly showed the twist and turns life can take when you lose your only guidance at a young age & have to be raised by the streets. For fear of spoiling anything, I’ll leave it at that !
I saw the writing on the wall with Sunny & Faheem and it worked my nerve. I thought that Sean would get with BG after they slept together. He had so many losses and no family. Sunny was broken and when she kept dissing him I thought he would let go. I was so irritated when he started drugging with her but I saw it coming. Now happy God was handled cause he was foul and thought Sean was Weak by the time he found out not so it was too late. He finally opened up to BG's love, she pregnant and they on top. I thought he was gone take himself out, glad he didnnt
I absolutely loved this book. I haven’t come across a Jaquavis Coleman book that I didn’t love. This book is 100/10 definitely recommend everyone to read this book. Jaquavis always adds those deep messages in his books that you really have dive deep in the book and read to catch. This book is a fall from grace story. Sean gets hooked on drugs in an attempt to show his bestfriend and first love that it’s easy to kick the habit. Not going to spoil it for anyone but it’s definitely an amazing book
3.5/5, it’s not my style, but a story of love, street life, drugs and making it despite having the odds against you. What I truly enjoyed in this book is that it conveys a message, King Sean lives a lavish life by putting H on the streets. He builds his riches off the same drug peddling that killed his mom and mentor. When his best friend becomes hooked on Heroin he’s furious with her boyfriend for getting her hooked, however there’s no culpability for being the largest dealer...
Let me start by saying, I didn't dislike the book at all, just more the characters. Sunny was very unlikable from the beginning. I wanted her to die sooner simply because you knew she would be Sean's downfall (as BG forewarned.). Also, being the man that Sean was, for him to actually use the heroin boggled me so. I know love will make you do crazy things, but c'mon. I just could not feel for the characters like I usually do with JaQuavis' books. 3.5 stars for me.
I really enjoyed 😉 this book! It was delicious 😋 awesome read. I was really surprised 😮 when my man Sean fell off the wagon and was so excited that he got his self together ❤️ 😭 I was really sad that Sunny had so many 😈 that she was fighting 😢 all through her life and brought him down because he loved her so much. This was a tear 😢 dropper. Loved it! Can't wait for the next series!
