Tales of dangerous worlds set in futures both unrecognizable and startlingly familiar. Read sneak peeks of the hottest dystopian books around, including Divergent by Veronica Roth, Gone by Michael Grant, Delirium by Lauren Oliver, Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi, Variant by Robison Wells, Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi, Eve by Anna Carey, and Partials by Dan Wells.
Anna Carey has been a gift wrapper, face painter, nanny, horrific cocktail waitress, sofa saleswoman and children's book editor. She graduated from New York University and has an MFA in fiction from Brooklyn College. She currently lives in Los Angeles, where she can be found writing, reading, and referencing 90s pop culture.
This is the best sampler I have read so far. Only one of these books ended up being something I didn't like. Divergent/Delirium/Shatter Me- incredible Gone/Partials- pretty good Under the Never Sky/Variant- average Eve -_- ugh
Divergent - loved and couldn't put down Delirium - loved, but not quite as good as Divergent Gone - Interesting enough...but I don't NEED to read it by any means Eve - Interesting. There's something there. Shatter Me - Very interesting and confusing? and one I'd definitely like to read Under the Never Sky - Another intriguing one I'd be interested in continuing Variant - Interesting! One to continue! Partials - Another good one I'd be interested in continuing
Ranking of books to continue that I haven't already finished: 1-Variant 2-Shatter Me 3-Partials 4-Eve 5-Under the Never Sky 6-Gone
Thank you. I was downloading sample after sample to decide what next. This gave me great ideas on what I want to read, and what I will skip. I have already finished Divergent, and loved it. The sample is only 5 chapters, this book holds 9, which decided it for me. I am also pretty sure about the last three. This makes spending $9.99 much easier, and I have more confidence in my enjoyment of the book.
This sampler was fantastic. What a brilliant marketing tool. I downloaded this sample for free from Amazon and I have bought and read 7 of the 8 books in the sample. I have gone on to by the sequels to those books as well. The samples give you just enough that I was hooked. The best hook out of all of them was Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. So glad I happened upon this little gem.
- Divergent, Gone, Delirium, Shatter Me - excellent series - Eve - great - Will try Variant & Partials - Sky didn't grab me
Divergent by Veronica Roth, Gone by Michael Grant, Delirium by Lauren Oliver, Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi, Variant by Robison Wells, Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi, Eve by Anna Carey, and Partials by Dan Wells.
It's hard to rate a sampler, but it did get me interested in a number of the books. There's a good chunk of each to read, it was free, and a good variety of authors. I'd already read Divergent, but the rest were new to me.
I keep feeling like I should give this book another chance. I don't remember much about the whole story as it's been a long time since I read it. I didn't care enough about it to read any of the sequels. Considering how popular it got, that's kind of insane to me. I think I was coming off having read a ton of dystopians at the time, so they'd all blended together.
Gone by Michael Grant
I really liked this series as a kid. In hindsight, there are definitely some serious issues with it regarding the treatment of an autistic character. I still have fond memories, but don't think as highly of it as I used to as a result.
Delirium by Lauren Oliver
I remember this being a lot better than it seems to me now. The book is definitely one with a fantastic concept, that's for sure. I really like Oliver as an author largely because of this series, too. Definitely about time for a reread, I think.
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
Mafi's Shatter Me series romanticizes abuse. Period. I hate this series because of that.
Variant by Robison Wells
I had not heard of this book until now. Thus far, it hasn't really caught my attention. I feel like this is something I probably would have been all over a few years ago, but I dunno about now.
Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
Haha, I actually thought I'd read this one before, but turns out it was a different book. The missing mother trope isn't really my thing, to be honest, but I've heard a lot of good things about this series, so...you never know, maybe I'll pick it up one day.
Eve by Anna Carey
I'm gonna have to come back to this one when we're not all quarantined because of a pandemic. Oh my goodness, lol.
Partials by Dan Wells
Yesssss, actually this one has been on my TBR for a while. I really need to start it.
I gave this a 5 star, I like all the other book samplers. But not this one, it's name is Variant. It's weird, when I say that it is because it started out weird and ended the same way. But that is just me saying, other then that I really love this sampler and will buy some of them. And here is what I will buy in this order: 1.Divergent, 2.Delirium, 3.Shatter Me, 4.Under The Never Sky, 5.Partials.
Great sampler. Didn't even get to finish it. I skipped about reading the excerpts that called out to men, and then couldn't rest until I had finished, not only the book to which said excerpts belonged, but all the books in the *series* in question.
Thank you, sampler, for introducing me to Tahereh Mafi and Veronica Rossi in particular!
Like the concept of this book. It includes more of each book than a kindle sample, so by the end of each book sample you know if you want to purchase and continue reading the book or not. If you like DT books and haven't read all of these yet, I do recommend it. It's free, so it can't hurt. ;)
Good sampler. I had already read 4 of the books, but the other four went on my tbr list, with three of them ones that I'm really looking forward to. One I probably wouldn't have bothered with without reading the sampler.
nice little sampling of different books in the genre, some were better than others, but I did enjoy it and have purchased some of the books previewed and intend to read some of the other ones. overall a great collection if you don't know what you want to read next.
I'll rate this e-sampler as a 4, not because I "really like" every book sampled, but because I really like how this enabled me to decide whether or not to read the books in the sample. My status updates reveal my opinions on the individual books.
A good mix of books. Only one from the group I don't plan on reading. I've read two of them already but the others have officially made my list. And they give you enough of the story to get into the characters and the world.
I couldn't figure out what to read next and his had just enough of each book to decide which I had to read and which ones I just didn't have an interest in. Love samplers! :)
