I’m a night owl and start writing when everyone else in my time zone is asleep. I’ve loved reading all my life and spent most of my childhood with my nose buried in a book. Although I always wanted to be a writer, financial independence came first. Twenty-some years and a successful business career later I took some online writing classes and never looked back.

Living and working in eight countries has taught me that there is more than one way to get things done. It has instilled tremendous respect for the many different cultures, beliefs, attitudes, and preferences that exist on our planet.

I like exploring those differences in my stories, most of which happen to be romances. My characters have a tendency to want to do their own thing, so I often have to rein them back in. The one thing we all agree on is the desire for a happy ending.

I currently live in Canada, sharing my house with a vast collection of books. I like reading, traveling, spending time with my nieces and listening to classical music. I have a passion for science and learning new languages.

MMRG Team Bingo 13th Round Week 9 Category: Gay Working Class Hero.

I bought a couple of titles of *Workplace Encounters* Series by Serena Yates for $1 special price--and boy was I surprised at how good of a read this was!

I have a kind of knee-jerk reaction when I see dirt cheap price offers for eBooks. And after I bought this, I was thought this might "only" be PWP with "only" sexy chauffeur hooking up with clients, or some rich guy getting it on with his hot driver. This was so much more!

I was very pleasantly surprised to find a really good/interesting plot and great characters and so much more than PWP.

As I read, I thought I knew the direction of one of the plot points, but the author surprised me!

I particularly enjoyed the three dates as quality time between the two MCs. The dates were very sweet.

I liked the writing style as well.

Not cool, the eBook ended at 84%, but not the author's fault!

Released today at Silver Publishing, this is the second book in the Workplace Encounters series; inspired by men meeting at work - but definitely staying away from the so-called office romance. This series looks at all types of workplace, even the occasional office may play a role, but the 'romance part' is guaranteed not to take place there.

This book is about physically scarred ex-model Kyle who leads two lives: he's a chauffeur by day, and an exotic dancer by night. His performance attracts Nick, a factory worker trying to forget his worries. Both men have been rejected by their families and are trying to lead independent lives - will they be able to see the advantages of sharing more than hot sex?

If you are interested, you can find an excerpt here and purchase the e-book at Siver Publishing.

I hope you will enjoy reading this book, and its future sequels, as much as I enjoyed writing it.

This is a superb piece of writing. From the opening page, Kyle's story drew me in. Scarred after a bad accident, Kyle is forced to give up his modeling career. His family abandons him and he takes a job driving for his uncle's company and dancing at night. He wears masks to hide his disfigurement.
When he meets Nick Giddings, their attraction is immediate and their blossoming romance brings forth lots of angst, complications and HOT sex.
Wow.
Where do I begin?
I found Kyle's anxiety over his scar to be very convincing. I dated an actor once who cut his chin in an accident. He never worked again...now he's older his scar is considered 'character' but I saw what he went through.
I also loved that Nick works in a factory and has a blue collar job. Those scenes were also convincing and a slice of American life RIGHT NOW.
His anxiety over his soon-to-be-eradicated hob and all the insecurities inherent with this made for a fascinating read.
Of course, I wanted Kyle's horrible uncle to get his just desserts and I wanted a happy ending. Call me a very happy reader. This is a wonderful, wonderful story with alluring characters that aren't 'perfect' and therefore utterly compelling.
Sequel, please.

I am not sure on the uncle he seemed really disrespectful and condescending even if he was just baiting the guy making fun of his appearance and just in general treating the guy like crap so i never bought his 180 turn around in the end. that said i really loved the two M/C's they were great

Rereleased today, The Chauffeur is the second of the Workplace Encounters books to be published by Dreamspinner Press. It is the story of scarred former model Kyle Anderson who leads a double life. By day, he works as a chauffeur for his uncle’s limousine rental company and he works nights as an exotic dancer, donning a mask to hide his identity and the facial scars that got him rejected by his parents. When Kyle catches the attention of Nick Giddings, a forklift driver caught low-skilled dead-end job, the two men immediately connect, but then Nick is laid off and Kyle’s uncle pushes him to date a woman, and everything comes crashing down...

Workplace Encounters is inspired by men meeting at work - but definitely staying away from the so-called office romance. This series looks at all types of workplace, even the occasional office may play a role, but the 'romance part' is guaranteed not to take place there.

Upcoming books in this series include a NEW story, The Bricklayer, in April, and a rerelease of The Ship Engineer in May.

I hope you enjoy Kyle and Nick's story!

Serena

P.S.: For people who bought the first edition: I have added a few scenes and details (about 2,500 words), but the story remains essentially the same.

Kyle Anderson and Nick Giddings, of 'The Chauffeur' by Serena Yates, have one important thing in common; they are survivors. Although scarred by life neither of them have given up. When knocked down, they pull themselves back up by their boot straps and trudge determinedly on.

It is lust at first sight for Kyle and Nick, however, both men quickly realize that there is potential for something greater between them. Even though past experiences have taught them to be untrusting, neither can deny the growing feeling that they belong together. Bravely, not dwelling on their emotional baggage, they, instead, face the experience with guarded hopefulness. I found this attitude to be quite refreshing.

Kyle's Uncle Gary is an interesting character, so strict with Kyle, yet at times, revealing hints of having to restrain his true feelings. As unconventional and contradictory as Uncle Gary's method is, it accomplishes its purpose admirably. I am touched by his compassion.

It's not often that I read a book a second time, but in this case, I am very grateful I did. Although the original story was great, Serena's reworking it has made it even more enjoyable. The story flows more smoothly; the conversations, particularly between Kyle and Nick, are clearer, more realistic, and more meaningful, accentuating the growing attraction between them. The subtle changes Serena made in the characters helped make them easier to relate to. For those of you who haven't read the story, I'd like to recommend that you do, especially if you like a lighthearted romance, great characters, and a happy ending. I also highly suggest to those who have read the original, to take the opportunity to read this version. If you are like me, you will enjoy the story even more the second time around. Thanks, Serena!

The Chauffeur was a really enjoyable read for me. Nick, the hard working factory worker needing a break, and Kyle, a guy that's a little battered but determined to get on with it and get ahead in life, were both great characters to get to know and their story kept me interested right to the end. Relationship wise, Nick and Kyle's instant attraction could have been quite difficult to swollow, but Ms Yates handles it very well IMO and the pacing of both the plot and the pairs romance was very easy to loss myself in...double thumbs up there! :D

I always enjoy reading Ms Yates writing - smooth and easy with few if any trips that make me pause and scratch my head trying to work out what's going on. The characters in this one were very likeable - both have had it pretty tough, but neither letting that stand in their way. And the story made for a very nice HEA with a great "evil uncle" twist at the end :) Overall, definitely one I could recommend if you're looking for a little hard working MM lovin'.

Here is my problem with this book -- I know that it is part of a series, "Workplace Encounters", but the story here has a VERY similar plot I found in the 1st book, The Elevator Mechanic, in terms of (1) One guy trying to work on his own business (2) The love interest losing his job; even down to (3) A masturbation scene. I know that the series has a "theme" but it's just well, too similar for me. I don't feel the conflict or either good interest for both guys -- it just fell FLAT for me *shrugs*

This was a fun story that took me a bit by surprise. I had expected the story to unforld in a particular way and it didn't. The author took the story in a diffrent direction which was both surprising and unexpected. Well Done!!!!

The Chauffeur is the second in Serena Yates’ Workplace Encounters series. Kyle Anderson is the chauffeur of the title. He is working for his Uncle Gary for room and board after an accident that left his face scarred and him homeless when his parents found they had lost their meal ticket. To earn money, Kyle also works as a masked stripper at a gay club where he catches the eye of factory worker Nick Giddings.

I was initially annoyed that Kyle was such a spineless wimp, who was pushed around by his uncle, but thankfully all that changes as his romance with Nick develops. The resolution of the story contains a nice surprise concerning Uncle Gary, who does not come across as a sympathetic character at first.

All in all The Chauffeur is a nice light read with characters that develop well.

I really enjoyed reading The Chauffeur! Ms. Yates is a truly talented author who writes the absolute best contemporary m/m romances. Seriously, if you love happy ever afters with just the right touch of angst and suspense, you do not want to miss this book or any others by Ms. Yates. Kyle and Nick seem to step off the pages for the reader and are so realistic that they could be one of any number of regular people. It is so easy to relate to them and what they are going through. The lovemaking scenes are scorching hot and just add depth to an already fantastic story. I cannot recommend this book enough, so be sure and pick up your copy today! You will be very happy you did.

Kyle is a young man who’d made mistakes that put an end to the life he knew it. This showed him the cruelty of being used, which endeared me to him. From there, Kyle’s life seemed to spiral out of control. Between his two polar opposite professions and his uncle, life wasn’t easy.

When Nick came into Kyle’s life, his world turned topsy turvey. He found a man he wanted to be with and found in him, his own strength by leaning on the other man.

Yet Nick’s own problems compounded their future. Only by putting their heads together did they find alternate choices to benefit them both, a surprising twist that wasn’t as it seemed.

I enjoyed this read and would recommend it to my friends as top notch!

I enjoyed this story and like always Ms. Yates didn't disappoint. Kyle and his painful history pulled me in immediately and the history of his treatment after the wreck...by his parents...is heart wrenching.

The premise is realistic, the personalities well developed and there's enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. Kyle and Nick are so believable they almost jump off the page, and their attraction is intense, with the bedroom scenes scorching hot.

I really liked this book. I have only recently started reading Ms. Yates's work, and this sequel to "The Elevator Mechanic" is just as good as the first in the Workplace Encounters series.

Kyle is struggling to find his way and very beleivable as a fallen child star and Nick is the perfect counterpart. I was swept up by the story and will definately be watching for the next one!

3.5 stars - This was a sweet and easy read that I really enjoyed. The story was a little predictable, but the cuteness certainly made up for that. Settling down to read The Chauffeur was definitely a nice way to spend my evening - I haven't read any of the others in the workplace encounters series, but I will do now ;)

Wonderful second story in this series. Following the characters' struggles and hardships, makes reading how their relationship grows very touching and personable. With Serena's other stories, I cannot wait for the next in this series!

This story was sweet and fun, though, I have to admit I found the ending a little...implausible.

It fits with Serena's writing style however, so if you like her other books - you'll love this one too.

It's all about the happily ever after, which we have debated on many occasions. :)

While I liked the premise, the plot was weak and too fast paced and I thought that Uncle Gary's swift turnaround left too many questions about his previous behaviour that weren't answered.

This story was just not my cup of tea, at all. I didn’t really connect with Nick or Kyle. It all just seemed very forced and rushed.

Kyle Anderson has recently been dealt some pretty hard blows. He was in a car accident a couple years back and suffered a facial injury that ended his lucrative modeling career. Since Kyle’s livelihood supported his greedy selfish parents when it was gone they threw him away like garbage. His only recourse was to take his Uncle up on his offer of free room and board as long as Kyle agrees to be a chauffeur in the Uncle Limousine business. Kyle agrees, but his Uncle keeps a tight rein on Kyle’s freedom and money. Knowing the only way out from under his Uncle’s control is financial freedom he starts stripping at a local gay strip club. It fits him perfectly because he is allowed to hide what he believes his “ugly” face behind several different masks.

Local blue collar worker Nick Giddings splurges every once and awhile and treats himself to a night out. One of his favorite spots is the gay strip club pretty close to his work. One night he sees a stunning stripper dressed as Zorro, who happens to be Kyle. There is an immediate attraction between both men. Nick decides he needs to get to know Zorro and waits for him in the parking lot. After an interaction with a security guard Kyle comes out with the Zorro mask still on. He agrees to get coffee with Nick but only if the mask stays on, Nick agrees thinking it adds an air of mystery to their encounter.

Things heat up very quickly between them. I usually don’t have a problem with fast hookups in my romances but like I said before this was forced and rushed which just made it seem phony.

After their first encounter they can’t get the other out of their head. One day as Nick is leaving work a limousine pulls up with some high powered execs in the back. When the chauffeur gets out Nick recognizes him as Zorro from the strip club. Kyle is horrified because he thinks Nick will reject him do to his scars but Nick is still very much attracted and they embark on a tentative relationship.

One of the biggest things about this story that left me scratching my head was Kyle’s relationship with his Uncle. There was so many HUH? Moments even after the big reveal. Like why wouldn’t he pay him what he deserved? I didn’t get it.

Like I said this story just didn’t appeal to me.

This was a short, light novella, but I honestly don’t know what to say about that plot (I’ll get back to that in a minute). This is book 2 in the Workplace Encounters series and it can be read as a standalone. While I enjoyed reading this book, it didn’t leave a mark on me, it’s one of those stories I’ll forget I’ve ever read by tomorrow.

Kyle is a pretty likeable character whose self esteem is low due to a face scar he got from an auto accident. He currently lives with his uncle, a rich old man who owns a limousine rental company. His uncle is a horrible human being; at least that’s what the author wanted us to believe at first. I didn’t really bite into that, I could see that the uncle’s behavior was the start of a master plan. But I honestly don’t see the point of Kyle being treated like crap and offended on a daily basis as a means to determine him to come out to his uncle, who knew he was gay to start with. It’s a mess and I didn’t like it at all; it’s one of those plots created for lack of better inspiration, but in my opinion, communication between uncle and nephew would’ve put a stop to this whole drama.

Nick was a puzzle to me; I can’t say I liked him, because his creepy behavior after he met Kyle put a stop to any likeable feelings I had towards him. He came off as a stalker and even though I thought Nick and Kyle had some chemistry at first, their relationship got too heavy, too fast. And their story was eerily similar to the couple in the first book: the love interest lost his job in both cases.

I guess my biggest issues are that the whole story is very predictable; the plot was extremely weak, and the uncle story was the glue that was supposed to keep it all together, only it failed to do so. I recommend this to readers who like short, light reads with little substance.

Nick sees Kyle dancing and convinces Kyle to go on a “date”. Though they are instantly attracted Kyle feels Nick won’t like him if he knows he’s scarred.

Nick sort of stalks Kyle when he meets him again without the costume, and convinces him his interest is sincere and they begin to date.

Nick is about to lose his factory job, Kyle is worried about coming out to his uncle, and both worry they may end up homeless and jobless soon, but they have each other.

**

This is another short story in Serena Yates Workplace series. It has a similar pattern to book one in that these are men who find themselves on hard times and need the support of the other to become better men and have better lives.

If you enjoyed book one you will probably enjoy this as well.

I enjoyed book one more than book two. I didn’t bond as much with either MC in this book and found the ending with the uncle a bit much to take.

I think the writing is good and the smexy times were hot, but I didn’t connect with this story as much as I have in the past with Serena’s books.

Hot & Bothered

First, the cover is wrong. The scar on Kyle's face is on the wrong side.

After that, nothing goes wrong. This book has two completely different kinds of characters--gorgeous but troubled Kyle, and hot macho man Nick--and Kyle's crummy uncle who runs the limo service to which Kyle is somewhat indentured.

It's a short book with a lot that goes on every step of the way. The sex is hot, the plot is a bit loopy, and in the end it's a pretty surprising finish, but well worth the time because it zips right along.

What a great addition to the series and super-freaking-hot! *fanning myself* Nick and Kyle are super sweet guys who both are in the same lackluster careers with no financial stability and they share a similar family history of abandonment. It was lovely watching them fall in love. The drama surrounding Kyle's uncle was a little predictable but no less entertaining for it.

Now I'm jumping straight into the next installment!

Kyle was a model that earned his family money when an accident left him scarred it also left him with no one but an estranged uncle. He hides everything about himself because he doesn't want to rock the boat. He meets Nick and they begin a relationship but a confrontation with his uncle forces to be honest about who he is and who he loves. Love the little surprises at the end.
